If I had to rate this clinic, it would be a negative 8000, which is the amount of the quote I was given by them for an 8 year old dog that needed a blood transfusion for IMHA anemia which was recommended by my vet.
When I arrived at Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital, the dog was very sick and had no symptoms of a stroke, no loss of body movement or rapid eye movement.
I gave them all the records my vet had sent with me, which I am not sure if they reviewed or not since I was not allowed to enter the building, over the phone (the individual on the phone was very rude) they told me the transfusion would be $8000 and that would include numerous tests that had already been done.
I explained I am on a fixed income, they then offered the "$1500" treatment plan which I agreed to.
It would to take 3 to 4 hrs to complete, I left my dog there at 11am and returned home. Around 4pm they finally called and said I could pick her up around 5, and told me at that time “DURING the procedure she had a stroke.”
When they brought her to me after the transfusion, she moved her little head like a bobble head toy and had the rapid eye movement. I said to the tech, “I did not bring her in here in this condition.”, and her remark to me was, "Well, this is how she is now."
How can they be so callused!
Got her home at approx 5:45pm and she had no control of her body movements or awareness of her surroundings, at 7:20 she passed.
My son called the hospital shortly after her passing and asked what happened while she was at their facility, he was told that I had refused treatment, which I didn’t, I declined the additional testing they suggested.
The doctor then explained to my son that "Once we advise you of the treatment options initially, we will not tell you again.” In other words, regardless if they see the condition of the animal has changed and additional treatment should be considered, they will NOT contact you to advise you of the situation, because they told you ONCE already what the treatment options were.
Once AGAIN, THEY WILL NOT CONTACT YOU to explain conditional changes while in their care.
The doctor went on to tell my son that PRIOR to the transfusion, she had a minor stroke, however during the discharge it was explained that DURING the procedure she had the stroke. That is a conflict of stories, what really happened while my dog was in their facility.
Again, why DID THEY NOT CALL to inform me of this situation at the time the stroke occurred, whenever that actually was. Nope, it is a once and done approach, we told you once, we will not tell you again.
My son also asked if I had chosen to do the $8000 procedure would the dog had survived....”NO” was the response. They would have been ever so happy to collect the $8000 knowing full well that she would probably not survive, and they still charged me nearly $1400 and sent home meds that she would never need anyway. Again, the individual who brought her out said "This is the way she is now"....Have a good day.
Bottom line, it was all about the $$ and how much they could charge and get away with. My little baby did not deserve this, and I hope to God that no other pet is taken to that facility for any kind of treatment, they absolutely do not care or even consider that this is a member of your family.
In my heart, I will always believe they did something causing her demise rather than helping her like vets are morally responsible to do, you should feel confident and trust in them that as trained professionals, they will do their very best to care for your pet. Do NOT TRUST these people.
Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital does not do their very best to care for your pet, they do their very best to take you for as much money as they possibly can and through it all, maybe, just maybe your pet will survive. Nothing about this experience makes me feel these people actually care about the care given to your pet.
DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT! Read Less
