Last week was my first time at KB&AH for our beloved ferret, Banjo. Our original exotic Vet couldn’t take us in, and referred us over to them which was an emergency. As busy as they were that day, they still squeezed us in to figure out what was wrong with my sick little buddy. They broke down all the costs for everything before they did any testing (which I really appreciated). Dr. Azureen Erdman spent time with me to figure out the best option for him. She never forced anything on me. I spent over 3 hours there to figure out the best solution with their help and guidance. We ended up having to put him down, but I can’t express enough how amazing Dr. Erdman was, the vet tech as well as other staff members. I was even able to get a clay molding of his little paw prints in memory of him. I highly recommend them to anyone. My husband and I plan on using them for our dogs from this point forward. Read Less

I chose this vet office because I wanted the best for my birds. I relocated from Los Angeles and the vets there are rockstars. Not so much in CT. Have to say my avian vet, Kristin Sinclair, at this office is outstanding. She's highly competent. She gave me the straight scoop about my Greenwinged Macaw's illness. I respect her for that. When he had to be euthanized she and her staff were incredibly efficient, caring and compassionate with me and very gentle with my dying bird. That meant a great deal to me. I want you to know that Dr. Sinclair is a gem. Her staff is excellent as well. I love the fact that I can buy a toy and other difficult to find bird products like Harrison's pellets there. There is plenty of parking. I am always greeted warmly and feel like my birds are in great hands. Another plus is that they accept care credit there which is a form of credit. Highly recommended. I've been bringing my pets to Kensington for a while, and I've never had a negative experience. They are knowledgeable, thorough, kind, passionate and excellent. Many other exotic veterinarians I've tried don't compare to the knowledge and expertise of the staff at Kensington. I once had a bird with a broken wing, and I had to get him in to a 24-hour emergency vet. They patched him up, put his bones back together, sure. But he lost mobility of his wing, and the 24-hour vet said they did their best, but that's how he would have to live now. I took my bird to Kensington and the doctor there said there was another way the other vet could have done the surgery, and this way my bird could have retained use of his wing. Too bad I didn't know about Kensington sooner. They were able to give him some mobility back though, amazingly. This is just one example of the overflowing competence of Kensington Bird and Animal. They are nice people but when you shake hands with them, you better count your fingers.  We brought our dog to them for a rabies vaccine.  By the time they finished, the bill was over $450.  This included $135 for Frontline flea and tick control.  You can buy this product in the $70 to $75 range anywhere and on chewy.com for $62 (free delivery).  The worst part about this is that our dog has a history of seizures and Frontline is not recommended for dogs with this history.  They charged us $55 for a routine exam and then tacked on another $155 for a wellness check.  Won't be going back any time soon. I am so appreciative to the staff at KBAH!! I recently rescued an injured pileated woodpecker fledgling who had broken it's wing and was laying on the side of the highway. Not only did the staff at KBAH take the bird from me after hours, they selfishly spent the next few hours, of their own night, assisting the bird by taking radiographs of the wing, hand feeding him, and giving him pain meds to stay conformable overnight. The bird went to a licensed wildlife rehabilitation expert, where I know he will get all the care he needs and will be released back into the wild when he is well and strong. The staff at KBAH, especially Dr. Giles and certified technician Ashley, are so incredible for what they do and for all the time they take to care for every individual pet, regardless of size, shape or age. I HIGHLY recommend bringing any animal here; they really know what they are doing and they are very professional in every aspect of their job. Thank you again for your superb medical attention to my little friend :DRead Less

I recently came to Kensington Bird and Animal Hospital as a new client with my guinea pig Lady Madonna and I must say I was very happy with our first visit for multiple reasons. First reason, every staff member we came in to contact with was friendly, smiling, and welcoming. Every staff member also acknowledged her and told her how cute she was which every pet owner loves. Secondly, I loved Dr. Sinclair! She was very gentle in her actions and tone of voice which made my piggy feel safe! She also made sure I knew exactly the diagnosis and treatment plan and was very thorough and kind. Third, I was pleasantly surprised upon receiving my treatment plan cost and visit cost. In comparison to other vets in the area their prices are substantially less in my opinion. I will now be bringing all 3 of my guinea pigs in to see them due to the quality of service rendered and I would recommend them to anyone looking for an exotics doctor!Read Less

First of all, the office staff is rude.  Not the guy who works there, but the blond with the glasses.  Then, the doctor will nickel and dime you for every little thing.   They do in house blood work because they make more money than if they send it out.  Salespeople are always trying to sell this type of equipment to medical practices so that they increase their revenue.  This then encourages unnecessary tests because they stand to make more money.  In addition to this, they add on a disposal fee to your bill, which is not disclosed when you make the appointment and tell them you want blood work performed.  They then explain it is to cover their cost in disposing of the needle.  Does your doctor's office charge you such a fee?  No.  It is the cost of doing business, just like the other supplies they purchase and use to practice veterinary medicine.   My parrot had an annual physical and didn't need the included nail trim, which is done with a Dremel, and takes 10 minutes.  I had just paid them 18.00 less than 2 months ago for a nail trim on this bird.  In place of the nail trim, I asked Dr. Sinclair if she would remove the leg band as it was almost separated anyway.  She never answered me but proceeded to remove it, which took a quick 60 seconds with two forceps.  She pulled it apart easily.  They charged me an extra 30.00.  I couldn't believe it!  It isn't like she had to cut if off, and I didn't get the 10-minute included nail trim.   These doctors are just in it for the money.   Look elsewhere as there are other Avian Board Certified Veterinarians in Connecticut. Back when Dr. Giddings was here I loved this business and would give it 5 stars every time. I have been bringing my dogs, cats and birds here for 25 years. I never considered going anywhere else. I even brought my mother's cats from W. Htfd, here on multiple occasions. The personal service that I was used to is gone. The sympathy, the friendly atmosphere, the kindness that needs to go with beloved pet care is just not there anymore. I read the other reviews and yes, if you have birds you can go get their wings and nails clipped for just over $30 a visit, but you can sit and wait for an hour even with an appointment. The front desk staff will be happy to ignore you while you wait. My cat had a urinary tract problem last year and my bill was over $500 in May/June. A portion of my bill went unpaid because of unfortunate circumstances and $200 went to collections. I went in and paid cash for the bill and apologized for the situation. Anthony was understanding and sympathetic, but I was informed that anyone who goes to collections is never allowed back. No exceptions. I received my file in the mail with a letter saying the same. 25 years, never late, always paid, always polite. Now I am exiled and refused service. I wish you luck finding a Vet, but I recommend you keep looking for one who cares. Read Less

We have been going to KBAH with our birds for many years-we have an African Gray, cockateils, and in the past we had finches, too. I think we have, at some point or another, met all the vets, techs, and front desk staff that work there!  We have always had a great experience with our "flock."  We have also boarded our birds there, and we are always very pleased. They are familiar with each of the birds and us, to the point that when I call on the phone they'll say, "Is that Kikook (our gray) talking in the background?"We recently adopted a found dog. Our min pin has several medical issues, and Dr. Giles and her staff have been absolutely fantastic with her. They are helping me learn to cope with her medical problems and her understandable separation anxiety. All this has had a truly positive effect on our dog's comfort and behavior. Last time I was there, somebody brought in a turtle they found injured in their yard. KBAH took it in. They treat all kinds of animals, exotic pets, and do wildlife rehab. They are a great facility! The team at Kensington Bird and Animal Hospital is amazing!  They really care about every animal, domestic or wild.  I have had the misfortune of bringing several injured birds there which they accepted without question.  (My dog has been known to actually grab low flying birds out of the sky, unfortunately).  Anyway, today was no exception.  My neighbor had set a leg trap out for animals that wander into his stupid garden.  I jump the fence every day and pop it so nobody gets caught in it.  Evidently, he reset it because this morning, there was a possum in it :(  we were able to get him out of the trap and brought him right to Kensington Bird and Animal Hospital where they took in to the back and assessed the damage.  It was bad and unfortunately, they had to humanely euthanize him.  This obviously was not the outcome that I was hoping for but at least he didn't suffer a slow agonizing death or been thrown in the trash while he was still alive.  They were very nice and understanding and also offered to contact the DEP regarding the trap.  I can't recommend this team enough.  I have been sitting in the waiting room at other vet's offices and watch a box of orphaned baby rabbits be turned away.  Kensington Vet would never do that.  They believe every life is special and will at least try to save them which makes them A++ in my book! When I called in to have my parakeet seen by a vet because his wing broke, the woman I spoke to was very impatient and rude talking over me and cutting me off while I answered her questions about my birds situation. She had told me to come in at nine to see the vet and there would be no wait since they were slow, and I had mentioned that my fiancé and I had work that afternoon. We arrived fifteen minutes early, greeted by an unfriendly face. We signed in and filled out his paperwork. After waiting 20 mins past 9 am we asked if there was a delay she said we'd have to wait because the only two doctors were taking care of an emergency situation. (Someone's ferret bit up and attacked their hamster) that sounded fair so we patiently waited. After an hour I asked again if it would be long since we had to definitely leave by eleven to make work, she said we'd be seen in less than ten mins. By 10:50 I got impatient ready to leave and boom! The vet comes out. After him trying to sell us on crap that is unnecessary we told what was needed and that's that. The certified vet to fix his wing came in examined my bird gave us the verdict then fixed him and even answered all my paranoid questions like will he ever fly again , bleed out, have a concussion & so on. All in all the veterinarians are wonderful but the front desk staff of ladies, not so much. I won't mention any names. If you can deal with rudeness at least until the doctor comes in AND you have a special animal like birds then here's the place to go, the next closest ones are more than an hour plus! So kind and was fantastic in how they were with our bunny. They reviewed everything with us and gave us great information and recommendations. We will be having this same bunny spayed here in the next few months and I fully trust the team here. Anthony at KBAH told me to come right down but be prepared to wait.
