Brought my dog here for years and had no issues. Got a cat recently and my experience was awful. Paid to have her fixed but the cat kept going in to heat for 4-5 months after. Kept getting told it was just the cat acting out or residual hormones. After about 6 calls asking about it they finally looked into it. Turns out they never took her ovaries out. Not just left over tissue the WHOLE OVARIES. I was never issued a refund for the original botched surgery or offered and reasonable explaination why it got messed up at all. Also I was told an 8lb tabby cat was "was to much to handle" and she would need to be put under to cut her nails. No other vet has ever had an issue doing it. I've brought my pets to a few vets in the area, but I come here more frequently because of there extensive experience with reptiles and exotics. Dr. Zyra is incredible - she's my absolute favorite. I've seen her with a few rescues, including a guinea pig, 2 snakes and an iguana. The reason I love her so much is we acquired the iguana as a rescue as he was knocking on death's door - emaciated, malnourished, mouth rot and a bacterial infection in multiple places - she gave us great advice on how to nurse him back to health and he made a full recovery. She was very receptive to questions and incredibly compassionate. I've seen many other doctors there for my cats, and generally my experience has always been favorable. Dr. Malm is a little too... judgmental for my taste, but maybe that was just me. We thought it was time to lay one of our pets to rest and he made us feel very lousy about it and ultimately we had to come back a month later and another doctor confirmed it was time to put him down. It was unnecessary heartache for us and our cat watching him suffer, not to mention the added cost, so I'm not a huge fan of him. Overall I'm happy with the standard of care, bedside manner and appointment availability. The receptionist's are also very compassionate.Read Less

They are so helpful and caring. Our poor hamster hadnt been acting his usual self. We brought him in at about 1030pm. Before this, they talked on the phone with my fiance for a long time and ensured the great care they would give him. When we brought our Albie in, they were so careful and helpful with him. All of the staff explained everything so we would understand, and were honest with their concerns. They treated us and our hamster the same way as they would treat a cat or dog. Just because he is a small animal doesnt mean he didnt deserve the same care and attention. The vet was very compassionate and careful when handling Albert and we were fully satisfied with his care. We would absolutely recommend them to anyone, and if needed we would use them again in the future! Hes comfortable, and not in pain, and that what means the most to us!! We were looking for a new vet in the area and had a horrible experience with Dr Angela Laberto! I worked for a vet for 15 years and it is a shame that a place like this hires such uneducated vets with no personality. Very disappointed after we were told she was going to walk her to try and get a urine sample and she didn't come back into the room for 20 minutes with our dog. Comes to find she supposedly did the exam in another room? Our poor dog came back panting and all red in the face? After charging us 470 dollars and not being able to diagnose her she referred us to Piper Memorial Hospital! I am happy to say Thank God our baby is okay and just pulled muscle. Too bad Dr Laberto couldn't diagnosis her pulled muscle! Read Less

We had adopted a cat from a friend, and was told the cat had skin allergies. Our friend used Bolton veterinary hospital. We took the cat there a few times, as she would suddenly go from calm to clawing herself in a fit of discomfort. Her body was dirty and mangled from the waist down. The treatments did little for her, and it turned out that she actually had mammary cancer and had to be put down. They didn't look beyond the skin irritation.A few years later, I brought my Maine Coon in because he became lethargic, unable to walk, and refused to eat or drink. He also tried to urinate in the kitchen corner. They were the closest open clinic on Saturday night, so I went. He had a urinary blockage, and they wouldn't touch him unless I produced at least five of the 800 dollars they said it would cost to unblock his tract. I got a loan from a friend, and they proceeded to treat him. Then for the remaining balance, they had me post date checks. Then withdrew before the agreed date..they suck Read Less

I honestly can't even articulate the words to describe my love and appreciation for the doctors and staff here, especially Dr. Paul Badeau. We rushed our ferret Bear into surgery at another vet office and we were then referred here for follow up emergency care. With our little guy's serious condition and complications, his chances of recovery were not promising. Dr. Badeau spent a very long time with us, explaining our options, the chances of recovery and every other question we had. We were given all the time and information we needed to make the best decision for Bear, which to our deep sadness, was to let him go. The staff let us take Bear into a room and spend all the time we wanted with him before we said goodbye. Dr. Badeau let us hold him while he gently passed away. For such a horribly sad moment in our lives, the staff here made it as bearable as it could be. They even took a clipping of his fur, took a prints of his paws, made a cast of his paw & gave us the blanket he slept with while there. When we went to collect his ashes, we found that a big portion of our bill had been paid for with their Memorial Fund. Truly, this took such good care of us, we are forever grateful that Bear's last moments were spent with such kindness and care. Thank you. Read Less

My 2 year old female pitbull managed to knock a bowl off the counter and consume the few grapes it was holding at the time. Grapes and raisins are HIGHLY toxic to dogs, and can oftentimes lead to kidney failure if ingested and untreated. When I called Bolton for advice, I was given quick, knowledgeable advice from a comforting professional. Within 20 minutes, every grape my dog had eaten was brought back up and her life was potentially saved thanks to the wonderful people I spoke with. I have had nothing but good experiences bringing my cats to Bolton Vet. I had a particularly difficult diagnosis for one of my cats. He had a rare case (in cats) of EPI. Dr. Griswold was able to determine this diagnosis. I also recently had to euthanize one of my cats, and Dr. Zyra kindly let me bring him outside so he could go peacefully and gently. I also hesitated when a very young doctor treated a new kitten, but she proved to be very competent (and very caring when I lost a cat.) Yes, they are a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. And I've never had a problem getting an appointment right away (so I don't know what some of these people are talking about....).Read Less

Our elderly dog became ill in the wee morning hours. We brought him in and were amazed to see 3 technicians come out to our minivan to bring him in on a stretcher. He was quickly hooked up to an IV and had xrays. Once we received the diagnosis and knew he had to be euthanized, we were moved to a private room where our children were able to spend some time with him and say their good byes. I am a medical professional, so I know that patients (and presumably pet owners) don't know everything, but was still amazed at how the vet blew us off. On a Sunday my regular veterinarian was closed and my cat began vomiting. He has a history of pancreatitis/triaditis with the same symptoms, which I told the veterinarian, along with showing her previous labs. She pronounced him sick with "gastroenteritis" and said, "we could do bloodwork if you really want". Feeling chastened, I took my cat home. Guess what? Two days later he was in the ICU (in Windsor) with pancreatitis and transaminases 10x normal. Pretty bitter, would not return. I'll drive to Windsor or West Hartford if our own vet is not available. Thank you so much Bolton Vet Hospital!! Read Less

I can't begin to express to the staff there how truly grateful I am to still have my happy and healthy little fur baby around. :) Thank you so much! :) Read Less

I thought the compassion of the technicians and the Doctor and the care we received were amazing. Read Less
