I am very sorry for the people who have had a bad experience with Mill Pond Veterinary Hospital and I am thankful that I am not one of them. I have been taking my animals there since Dr. Yarrow started with home visits then opened the hospital. I will admit, there was a scary time when the vets were all leaving and I thought of leaving as well, but I am so very happy that I stuck it out. I LOVE Dr. Lang and Dr. Prior as well as ALL of the office staff ( Jennifer, Ashley, Vickie, Sarleen and Selina - I haven't met Steven yet). My boxer Boss has quite a few medical problems, first diagnosed in a totally unrelated visit by Dr. Lang and he has followed Boss's visits to Central Medical as closely as I have! They get us in right away, I have never had them recommend something expensive just to make money, on the contrary they give me options so I don't have to go the most expensive route. They always call the next day to follow up and are just wonderful all around. I honestly cannot say enough positive things about these very caring, responsive and all around wonderful group of people. I highly recommend them and I for one, will not be taking my pets (they also care for my cat Jasper) anywhere else. I have 100% trust in them. Michele Emery Read Less

Be very careful of this hospital.  I don't think highly of a hospital that will NOT take responsibility for misdiagnosing a dog that caused her passing.  Sadie Frisco  died from DIABETES that wasn't discovered until a month later! Or that her GI stomach ulcer was hemorrhaging that caused her fatal anemia! Never mind Xrays or a basic ultrasound was never conducted when we requested them as she was vomiting profusely in the waiting room.  Not a place for my pets.  If no one believes this trust me records do not lie.  There are records to prove all of this.  BEWARE! For the past 13 years, we have brought our pets to MPVH with Doc Yarrow and Donnie. We had 2 mini schnauzers and a cat. They have seen us through some trying times, Lily with Cancer and chemo and eventually her dying this past year and they always were kind and compassionate. Now my 12 year old Murphy is slowly dying with diabetes and blindness for the last 6 months. We have chosen to keep him comfortable and not do any heroic measures. We have been testing his urine at home and giving him insulin twice a day, i have bought the insulin from MPVH monthly without any problems. Well this week ( which is thanksgiving week) i called to order another vial and was told by Sherry in the office that i could not get insulin for murphy without first having blood work done. So i thought she was mistaken and i told her that we are not doing blood work we just need the insulin to keep murphy going. She said she would check with the doctor.  A little while later she called and said "Sorry we cannot give you the insulin without first seeing murphy." I was taken back by this as we have consistently gotten his meds monthly without any problem. So i asked her to have Doc Yarrow call me at her convenience. Well Doc Ray called and he was adamant about not giving us the insulin until we brought him in. I asked if we could get the insulin and make an appt for 2 weeks out as this is very busy week, and i only had 3 days left of insulin. You guessed it 'NO'.  I was so upset as this dog just to get him in the car and to the vet is so upsetting to him, he shakes the whole way there and if you know anything about diabetes then anxiety can increase blood sugars. I still could not believe this was happening so i placed another call to doc yarrow and the girls said she would call after she was done with her patient she was with. OK fine. Well she never called, Doc Ray called me this time and he was very matter of fact and said "No we need to see murphy and do blood work to give you the insulin because we need to know we are doing right by him" . Well I understand this thinking but with end of life care we do not do extra testing or blood draws that are not necessary.  I could not get my point across and i was told to get my records and that maybe another vet would be better for me. Well i still can't believe it but i will never recommend this practice to anyone ever again. They disgust me and the lack of ethics is so poor. This is how they treat a patient they've had for 13 years? Would they want to die from a diabetic coma or diabetic ketoacidosis. Well by withholding this med from my dog then they are the ones killing him.carol d. Read Less

I'm very sorry that you had to wait but my dog was one of those emergencies and I am so grateful that he was looked at immediately because he was in serious distress with intense pain. I understand that no one wants to wait when they have a scheduled appointment but emergencies are unplanned and you never know when they will happen. Mill Pond Veterinaries scheduling policy is ridiculous. Just left this morning after being told they were behind schedule for my 9:30 appt., when they opened at 9:00. This is the 3rd time this has occurred in the past year. When I asked how long the wait, not one of 3 employees were able to give me an approx. wait time. Prior appt. wait times ranged from 45 mins. to 1 1/2 hrs. I explained that I could not keep my 3 cats crated for an unlimited amount of time. I was told 2 emergencies came in, and I understand that. But I had an appointment. If they are going to act as an emergency facility AND a standard vets practice, they should be staffed to do so. The real kicker though, is they bill themselves as a certified Cat Friendly Practice. This is totally false. Having to keep ones cat in a carrier for an hour or longer doesn't seem like a positive pet experience to me. On one visit, the Techs told me my cat was so tense because he'd waited in his carrier so long. Also, we've had appts. in exam rooms adjacent to rooms with barking dogs. Not exactly calm inducing for cats. Actually, a few times we've had to wait in the waiting room with dogs. So call it what they want, it's really just a Vets office as far as this Cat Friendly Practice label. As said before, either be an emergency pet hospital or a regular practice. Or if you want to do both, then be staffed AND set up to handle both. For us and our 3 cats..... we are off to a new practice. And Good-Bye to Dr. Wray. We will miss you. Read Less

For the longest time I would rant and rave over Mill pond because I truly believed their cared for their pets, customers and took their line of work more importantly than money. My dog became sick about 4 months ago. We immediately contacted the vet truly trusting in them. She started having diahrea. The vet prescribed multiple different meds which none of them helped. They seemed to continue to change them up, never return phone calls promptly and seemed to care less that my dog was getting sicker and sicker. They did blood work, fecal exams everything. After 2 and a half months and 2,000 dollars spent at Mill pond and direct advice from the owner doctor yarrow. My fiance and I took to the internet and gave our dog a bland diet which worked.. why something so simple wasn't recommend to us in the first place is ridiculous. Unfortunately, her symptoms came back after three weeks after re introducing regular food. The vet automatically prescribed a high dosage of predinose which led us to her losing even more weight  (mind you she lost a total of 25 all together ) blood in her stool, vomiting and she wouldn't eat or drink. When I tried to call doctor yarrow I got no call back. So I took her to the office and demanded she be seen because she was so sick. After that dose of predinose we ended up with my dog hooked up to an iv. For an overnight stay at an emergency vet ! Another 2,000 later and mill pond never called to check on her. They basically said we should see a specialist and then sent us a letter in the mail saying they no longer want us in the office. They are money hungry , rude and could care less about the animals they serve. I would never recommend this vet to ANYONE ! 4,000 DOLLARS LATER and they only made my dog sicker. Don't waste your time or money. There's plenty of other vets who care about the animals they serve! Read Less

I brought my dog here for an emergency.  We hadn't been to a vet since Hurricane Sandy because we've been moving around so often.  My dog had bloody diarrhea and I took him to the only place that was open at 7 am.  I'm so so so glad I did.  They had an appointment for him straight away, and although I knew that this was likely to be expensive, they asked several times about the cost of a particular procedure before they did it. I knew they were going to take blood, so they offered a genetic test that could both identify any potential problems for his breed and age.  I was sure he needed surgery for the bleeding problem, but after Dr. DaCosta examined him, she was clear that there was nothing stuck in him.  They sent me a postcard reminder, as well as an email, to come in for a follow-up,but then when I called for an appointment, they said if the bleeding had stopped I didn't need to come in.  Just pick up his Nextguard and Heartguard and I was good to go!I'm so happy.  so happy. I recently transferred the care of our young pup to Mill Pond Veterinary Hospital from another local establishment and am delighted with the care and follow-up he now receives from Doctor Deb Yarrow, Chief Technician Don and the rest of their personable and well-trained staff. Our pup's condition was expertly diagnosed in the course of a 90 minute initial office visit, he was given all of the correct medications for a course of treatment and was given them for the right duration to resolve his issues. He started to demonstrate signs of significant improvement within 24 hours. Today, a week later, he is fully cured and has never looked better or seemed as lively and happy. This was not just a happy coincidence or result of our pup just clearing his system on his own from a mysterious ailment. Deb and Don immediately knew what his problems were from their thorough clinical examination, and from taking the time to ask detailed questions, which they revised as they went along to account for my previous answers. Through this collaborative--and time-intensive--process of obtaining every needed piece of diagnostic information, they arrived at an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plan which combined their expertise with my own in depth knowledge of our pup's history and seeming reaction to various environmental and dietary factors. Together, we got things right for him, on the first go-round. But that only happens with that kind of engagement and clinical experience.Their attention to detail was evident at that first meeting, as well. Deb had a staffer check to see that our pup's implanted microchip was not only properly activated and working, but also to determine if it were properly registered to his breeder, as I had been told it had been. It had not. So we had it registered to MPVH, at Deb's suggestion, so that we all could rest assured that if our pup ever became separated from us he would be taken to a safe and secure location like MPVH until we could be reunited with him. I like that kind of thoughtfulness and concern for an animal's safety and welfare.Similarly, Deb and Don provided us with helpful training suggestions, based on their observations of my interaction with our pup and their long history of expertise in animal training techniques. Their practical and focused suggestions proved immediately applicable and helpful. Don brings a similar focus to everything he does at MPVH, right down to personally installing the steel support structures for the practice's heavy overhead surgical lighting equipment, so that there is no danger of it ever falling on your anesthetized pet in surgery. Who even thinks of something like that? And when we took a tour of the facilities at their recent open house, we were impressed by their spotlessness, from the front reception area to the smallest food storage closet in the rear. Deb and Don truly bring a hands-on approach to their practice and i shows in all these details. Their staff is similarly well-trained and personable, which reflects the time and care they have devoted to hiring and training thoroughly and well. Finally, I can only say from my own experience, that the advice and recommendations of current clients is the gold standard, and in that regard Deb and Don and MPVH were enthusiastically recommended by all of our pet-owning friends, none of whom know each other. I still went ahead and read every review that is posted online before deciding to transfer our pup's care to MPVH because I try to be thorough in my own care decisions for our pet. And I can only say that the positive reviews I read perfectly line up with my own experience at MPVH and I cannot recommend them highly enough. We have had some great vets in the past, But we have never had the combination of skills, talent and passion for top-quality pet care that we have seen at MPVH which is an extraordinary practice created by two very passionate and superb clinicians on the model of personal attention, rigorous scientific analysis, and unparalleled, hands-on care for your animal member of your family. FIVE stars, without the slightest reservation. Read Less

Dr Yarrow saved my four year old chihuahua's life.  My dog was diagnosed with a rare and deadly autoimmune disease that ulcerated all of her mucus membranes leaving her nose, paws, and mouth bloody and raw.  Dr Yarrow recognized the symptoms immediately, performed a biopsy, and began treatment right away.  Without her proactive response, my baby would not be alive and well today. We have been bringing our baby kitten here for almost a year now and we have nothing but great things to say. From her first shots to nail clippings, the vets and assistants take great care of each animal and make you feel like yours is just the cutest (well I mean, she is pretty cute). After her shots, the doctor will call us at home to make sure she is doing OK as well as after any surgery or procedure. We have also felt comfortable calling and asking questions to them if something doesn't seem right. They send birthday emails every year and postcards when your pet is due for their next appointment. I would recommend this Vet to anyone in the area, they are great. Read Less

Rather than bore you with a long sob pet story, let me save you some time. All this place cares about is money. I'm out $2000 and my dog still can't walk on all fours, despite the PROMISES Dr. Yarrow and her vet techs made. How would you feel if your doctor insisted on a $50 office visit payment when you brought your pet in because something was wrong following their surgical procedures....on CHRISTMAS EVE!!!! And that's just the beginning of the shakedown. Go to Branford Veterinary Hospital instead, which is only a block away from this awful place. Read Less

Read Less

Just pick up his Nextguard and Heartguard and I was good to go!I'm so happy.  so happy. I recently moved from Colorado and Mill Pond was recommended by my last vet. They took great care of my dogs, spending a lot of time with each one during their check-ups, and answering any questions I had. The vet called me herself with lab results a few days after the appointment. One of my dogs needed a dental cleaning and the staff did a wonderful job. The anesthetic they used seemed to have less post-operative effects than previous ones I've seen. Some of their pricing seems a bit expensive, but they're worth the trip from New Haven. Read Less

Thank you to her and the staff for treating us like we were their only patients! Read Less

Read Less
