We are so grateful for dr. Dave, his assistant and Mr. Burns. The Roaring Brook staff has helped us say goodbye to our best friend of 13 wonderful years. Our dog Ripper has been with us in Hawaii, moved with us to New York City, and took his last breath at home in my arms here in CT. This very difficult process was so incredibly peaceful. The dr was very calm and patient, took his time to slowly relax Ripper before the final shot. Everyone spoke softly, and gave us the support we needed. We didn't feel rushed, this was not just part of business sort of thing, it was very compassionate. We had an amazing first experience with our new golden doodle puppy. The staff was very friendly from the moment we walked in the door. We were seen right away at our appointment time, and Dr. Begg did a fantastic job. Roaring Brook is an awesome place to take your pet. We have been taking our rescue dog there for about 2 years. I love getting the email reminders when he has vaccinations or check ups due and being able to make the appointment online. The office is very clean and the staff is very friendly. We are always seen promptly and they take good care of my dog who can be a bit rambunctious in these situations. When we have had an emergency (dog eating something he wasn't supposed to, exhibiting a weird behavior, etc) Roaring Brook has made the time to see him on short notice and make sure he is okay, which we really appreciate. Very dissatisfied. I brought my chicken in to be put down. My regular vet was not available so this was the closest avian doctor. My bird was clearly not doing well and completely beyond repair. I was very clear in letting the staff and doctor know she needed euthanasia. I was charged for an exam($69) and euthanasia ($40). While waiting for my chick to be euthanized I reviewed my bill. I questioned the charge for the exam. They said for legal purposes they have to charge for an exam. I understand that. I asked for a discount because she was obviously was beyond any repair and the exam was not really done. The secretary asked the doctor but he would not offer a discount. I will not return here again. My regular vet only charges me $60 total to euthanize a chicken. Next time I will wait until my vet is available. Read Less

I have a husky and a lab mix that LOVE coming here. I started them first in doggy daycare. To be eligible, your dog must first pass an evaluation. They must be routinely vaccinated, especially for canine flu. I'm so glad to know that RB instills these rules though; I know my dogs are safe and having fun. After a few months at daycare, I had a weekend trip and decided to board them here as well, especially since there's a package that allows them to play all day with the dogs at daycare. I have now boarded them at least five times, and always feel so comfortable that they're taken care of. They also can board in the same room together to stick within their little pack, and it also cuts the cost a few dollars. The reason I'm giving them 4 stars and not 5 is simple: they care more about the dogs than about us humans (which isn't even a bad thing in my opinion). This means that the staff members don't light up to see your face, they light up when they see your dog's face. And when professional customer service is called for, they do a fine job. You pay for what you get, and you get an excellent facility for your dog, so expect a little higher pricing than most kennels. However, they charge by the night rather than the day, and I find this a huge difference and awesome practice! For example, if you drop off your dog at 9 am on a Friday, and pick them up before closing on Saturday, you only paid for A one night stay! My last comment is about the kennel manager, Dan. I read a previous comment that someone wasn't happy with him, and I have to admit how surprised I am to hear that! When those bad customer service/human interactions have happened to me, Dan was beyond helpful in rectifying their mistake. He's personable enough, and absolutely in love with the animals. That's what matters right? He also reached out to me personally after I filled out a customer service questionnaire with a few minor complaints. In all, roaring brook kennels is definitely the place to go for doggy daycare and for boarding. Read Less

I came to Roaring Brook Veterinary Hospital as my elderly dog had a rough night with labored breathing and my vet wasn't open. We knew the end result going into this would be that our schnauzer, Lola, wouldn't be coming home with us. The reception, techs, and doctor (sorry, blanking on the names) were all amazing. They treated my best girl with so much compassion and love down to the last moment. They acknowledged how precious she was to me and treated her as such, calling her a perfect angel as she was going. I can't say enough about Dr. Malouin and the staff at Roaring Brook Veterinary Hospital. They are always smiling, welcoming and comforting to both my dog, and to me! I have had occasions to walk in without an appointment, and they have accommodated me as soon as they are able. I have always received follow-up phone calls to see how my dog is doing, if there has been any issue that required medical attention. I have even received follow-up phone calls to let me know that everything is great! The staff are all very knowledgeable, and they take their time with me if I have any questions or concerns, and I've always felt they had mine and my dog's best interest at heart! I am quite saddened by my recent interaction with the staff at Roaring Brook Kennels. I have used them quite a bit with other dogs and I was always satisfied. There was a miscommunication regarding my dog's vaccination records and as a result, they gave my dog a vaccine that she had already received. When I questioned the staff the answer I received was that I signed the paper. The paper I signed was for what I believed to be an emergency contact form. It was not gone over with me in any detail at all. When I picked up my dog today and questioned the vaccination, I was understandably upset. The staff refused to remotely take any responsibility for the mix up saying "you signed the paper" repeatedly. When I pointed out the paperwork from my vet and asked why I wasn't called, I received the same line "you signed the paper". Soooo, they promised me that the manager Dan would return my phone call. When no call came, I called again. When I mentioned to Dan that I had been waiting for him to call (4 hours)  Dan became very defensive and told me that he didn't have to answer to me about his hours! What?????  He was extremely rude to me and basically told me that I wasn't telling the truth and that his staff didn't make mistakes. The only human that never made a mistake walked on water and died on the cross 2000+ years ago. During this phone call I was very obviously upset and this seemed to make Dan mad as I was told to take my business elsewhere. It wasn't until after I told Dan that I have been in customer service for 35 years and that I was not trying to be difficult that I received a very half hearted apology for the mixup.  I wasn't looking for blood, I simply wanted to know why I wasn't called. I was very worried that the duplicate vaccination would be detrimental to my dog's health. To top it off, when I was checking out I was told that my total bill was $70+ and when I got home my receipt was for $58. That's 2 mistakes with paperwork within 24 hours. Someone is not paying attention!  So, Dan and crew at Roaring Brook, I will happily take my dog elsewhere. Your lack of compassion for humans seriously makes me question your ability to take care of animals that have no voice. I don't know many businesses that can afford to turn business away or that don't understand that there are two sides to every story and somewhere in the middle is the truth. Should I have asked more questions about the paper I signed, absolutely BUT, did I deserve the treatment I received from Dan and staff? Absolutely not. There are other kennels around that value your business. I suggest you use them. Read Less

I love RVH!! Dr. Hershey is great and she as well as all the staff take care of your pet as if they were their own. I was so nervous for my smallest chihuahua to go for his dental procedure, I even went in there crying. I walked out though feeling much better once they comforted me and I knew he was in good hands! I even called in to check on how he was doing and they updated me no problem and called me as soon as he was done. Turns out this procedure very well saved his life and I was more than happy with my choice to follow through with Dr. Hershey's recommendation even over my fear. The staff took such good care of my little guy they even carried him around in their pockets because he didn't want to be alone. Always a great experience when I go there. Roaring Brook is all-around great. I live 30+ minutes away and transferred all three of my dogs there after getting tired of my former vet's non-responsiveness. They diagnosed and treated a thyroid disease one of my dogs had apparently had for years that had been missed by his last vet. Dr. Nassar also took spectacular care of that same dog as he aged, helping his pain from arthritis immensely with chiropractic treatments. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the service Roaring Brook provides to local rescues is tremendous. If I lived closer, my dogs would go there for regular grooming and daycare as well. I have 5 Border Collies who do a variety of sports. We have been going to Dr Nassar for several years now. My dogs start screaming when we pull in the parking lot. They all love Dr Nassar and all the techs and etc. everyone is very friendly. My dogs seeeDr Nassar for adjustments about every 8 weeks, the older ones more often. She spends a lot of time with each dog. She also gives me suggestions and support when one is having a health problem. We do not use her for a primary vet because of the distance but I certainly recommend her to anyone on that side of Hartford. When we moved here I needed to find a vet and kennel that understood my dog's behavioral issues and would be willing to work with them. He didn't like people and needed to be worked with in a certain way. This office did just that. They never gave me attitude or skepticism and did what I asked to make his visits easy and less stressful. He became so comfortable he didn't mind being around the doctor and staff anymore. The kennel let me have a tour of their facilities and are certified. I've taken my other dog to be groomed here several times and he always comes back looking great and happy. The staff are very friendly and you can tell they treat the animals the way you want them to be treated. I've since had two of my animals become ill and had to be put to sleep and the vet staff made it as easy as possible. I have even gotten signed cards and flowers afterward. Our pets have been going to Roaring Brook Veterinary Hospital for over 35 years. Each experience has been one which exemplified how much they care for both the animals as well as the humans who bring them. No matter if the issue is extremely serious or simply a question -- each issue is treated with the greatest respect and care. When need arises for a specialist, they are extremely selective in suggesting the best outside special care available, allowing the final decisions as to what care is provided to the owner. Frequent calls were made to check that progress was being made by our pet. As pet care has progressed Roaring Brook has expanded their care to meet new needs. Boarding is available, as are grooming, doggie day care, puppy school and other training, as well as the newest of specialized treatments. I strongly recommend their services! The staff is fantastic (and my dog delights in going to his doctors!) It should be noted that not only is the animal very well taken care of, but the needs of the human are thoughtfully addressed. When we had to put down our last Golden, we were invited to be a part of both the planning and the process. This gave both us and our pet a sense of calm and comfort. I have 4 dogs and have been using Roaring Brook for years. I have always received the highest level of care and treatment. The entire staff (vets and all other personnel) really care about their patients and it shows. There is one area that has consistently been a pain in the butt. When calling into the the office whoever picks up the phone almost always asks if I would hold for a moment. That "moment" usually averages 5 to 10 minutes on hold. This is not an exaggeration. I have a small-senior dog. He does boarding during my trips. For his entire life(13 years old), he was ok to go a kennel. But when he goes here, he shows reluctance and discomfort. I did not know until I read a review from here.In addition, I am pretty sure from my previous experiences with different vets, they overcharge and add more vaccines that are usually not asked by other facilities.Even the annual check came out three times more than I usually paid for the old town's vet.From my heart and experiences, this facilitys priority is making money more than helping the pets and their owners. I recently lost my kitty Hankie due to cancer. The Veterinarians and staff at Roaring Brook were all so kind, compassionate, helpful and understanding of what I was going through. His care was extremely thorough but everyone was so gentle and loving. I could not have asked for or received better care than we received here. I received a beautiful and personal card today with his paw prints which just made me so happy that he was remembered and that so many cared. I also want to thank the Roaring Brook staff for choosing a "birthday" for Hankie with a card to honor his day. Kennel review: we left our lab here for a long weekend and did not get a chance to tour the facility until we were dropping her off and headed for the highway. Had we toured beforehand, we probably would have found an alternative accommodation. The kennel environment seems clean but it's a little "cold" with worn concrete cells. Each kennel has its own doggie door to the outside which is also a concrete slab covered run with chainlink fencing all around. I guess this is where they are meant to do their business which I can only imagine our dog having trouble with since she's trained to go in grassy areas. As I understood it, Supposedly the dogs could go in and out all day but all of the dogs were in and it was a barking madhouse. We were told tat it was still a little too humid for them to go out. Our dog is a big girl without any real neurosis so we figured she could handle it. But our hearts went out to the small dogs and especially to the dogs in the "geriatric" area. It's just a cold cold cold, fluorescent cave. We have had pugs and The pugs there in the cage looked mortified. I just think you need to tour this facility and know your dog before leaving him / her there overnight. I think it would be traumatic for a sensitive dog. We did sign up and paid the additional money for the daycare. We were not shown that play area and you just have to trust that your dog is getting this experience. My brother-in-law had his dog in daycare in China where they emailed or texted you photos of your dog at play outside every day. It was a nice touch! Read Less
