We urgently had to bring our geriatric cat Zoey to this animal hospital just recently. We were new to this area and this was the only place still open that we could find. We were so lucky to have this staff handle Zoey as we had to unfortunately put her down. The staff was respectful, spent time with us and did all they could to help us through this difficult choice and time. Highly recommend Dr. Dabrowski and his entire staff, they even followed up with a sympathy card which speaks to the quality and character at this vet. Thank you VCA Read Less

I have been a loyal customer practically from the start of the clinic. There's good vets and not so good. Always ask for an estimate for any services! I believe pets are taken in back for procedures that require additional personnel, some of which I could hold my cat for rather than being charged an exorbitant amount for my cat's ears to be wiped out! Unacceptable! Pay attention to the how the doctor is examining your pet. It may not be complete or include checking eyes, mouth, ears or even checking the body thoroughly! Read Less

My husband and I brought our 7 month old puppy to VCA after an accident while playing with our other dog in the backyard. Prior to going to VCA, we had a diagnosis from the Animal Hospital of Rocky Hill for a broken canine tooth. We were able to get an appointment at VCA the following day. The vet at VCA looked inside our puppy's mouth and confirmed the canine was broken. It had to be extracted. So, we made an appointment for surgery with Dr. Efron the following week for the tune of an 806$ estimate. A week goes by and we arrive at VCA for surgery day. About two hours later, we get a phone call from VCA telling us our dog has a fractured jaw. ****So, AT THIS POINT, our dog has been walking around and playing with a FRACTURED JAW for 12 days since we FIRST walked into VCA to see a resident vet there***** WHAT!?!?!? When we pick up our puppy, we speak to Dr. Efron about the bad news. He shows us the x-ray and tells we will be in for a 2500-3500$ surgery. We get to the counter and the receptionist says to us "That'll be 866$." FOR WHAT?!?! ****How could the bill for a XRAYS and NO SURGERY be more than the estimate we had for an entire extraction surgery slated for 1-2.5 hours!?***** MAKES NO SENSE! *****COME TO FIND OUT --- VCA had tried to charge us 300$ for a radiography that they never asked us permission to do****** After speaking to Dr. Efron about the bill, his response was "You're right. I should've told you." SO WHAT??? if I didn't say anything or ask to look at the bill, you would've scammed us 300$ for something we didn't even know about?!?! That's like dropping your car off for an oil change and the mechanic puts new breaks on and expects you to pay for them... NO!!! A second opinion was warranted and thank God we did that the NEXT DAY. WITHIN MINUTES OF VIEWING THE X-RAYS we are informed that the canine tooth was NEVER broken. It is completely intact - Root, pulp and all!.... It had jammed into the jaw and as a result, he lost THREE teeth behind the canine (HOW DID THREE VETS MISS THAT WITH AN EXPENSIVE 300$ RADIOGRAPH AND 2 ADDITIONAL DENTAL X-RAYS?) Yes, the jaw IS fractured but it is aligned and healing great. The ONLY concern is if the canine tooth might hit his upper pallet. So, we monitor it. We go back in 7 weeks and another x-ray. THANK GOD, there are some vets out there that aren't scam artists and play on young people's emotions. BEWARE of this office. WHAT A NIGHTMARE to be totally misled and taken advantage of. Read Less

I'll start off by saying that the actual Veterinarians at VCA are some of the best I've had the pleasure of working with. I have had an appointment with only 1 vet there, when we had just got our puppy from a rescue, and he was pretty blah in general. His attitude left a lot to be desired, but he was still knowledgeable about everything we asked. That being said - the issue I have is with the administrative office staff in general. I don't think I've ever called in and not been put on hold for several minutes when calling. If demand is that high then they should hire at least another person on staff, perhaps solely to answer administrative calls and schedule appointments while other staff handle in-person transactions. This is quite annoying. As with most veterinary practices, I imagine, their prices for prescriptions are higher than you can find online. Unfortunately when you order online, the online vendors have to verify your pets prescription with their vet. This process with VCA is like pulling teeth EVERY time. An example: We ordered heartguard for our dogs online from PetCareRX (considerably cheaper than buying directly from the vet). PetCareRX faxed over the documentation but hadn't yet heard back, so they contacted us. I called the vet and they explained that since we had an upcoming appointment they were waiting until after the appointment to return the fax - which I don't understand. We have an active prescription so just fax the paperwork back! I didn't have the patience to argue with them, so I said ok. We then went to our appointment and I'd forgotten about the heartguard, so about a week later I called back to follow up. This time they said they never received a fax from PetCareRX to confirm the prescription - which was obviously a blatant lie since on the previous call they confirmed they had received it but were waiting for our upcoming appointment. Sadly this isn't a one-time occurrence, we jump through hoops for this crap EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I would understand if VCA's services were inexpensive compared to the competition, but the fact of the matter is that, in my experience, VCA's prices are at the highest end of the spectrum when comparing to others. I go to VCA in Cromwell because we used to regularly deal with Dr. Efron - the absolute best Vet we've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Sadly at this point his availability at the practice is something like one day a week and it's next to impossible to get an appointment with him. The other vets, as stated previously, are, for the most part, friendly and quite knowledgeable. Read Less

I did a lot of research of the latest information on dealing with post I-131 hypothyroid, and Dr Frattini listened to my concerns and questions, and even went the extra step to talk to an animal endocronologist so that he and I were on the same page when it came to Harmony's care. He understands that I am going to do my part to be a well-informed cat owner as well as advocate, and I know he is the one who went to medical school and has the education.
