Amazing vet care! Prices are very reasonable compared to a regular vet and the care and patience is better! Although it’s a small clinic, everything is done within an exceptional amount of time. My dog and cats come here and I have never had better attentive care anywhere else for my fur babies! The stress level isn’t high like it would be walking into a vet! We took our Nala here for her spay as our long time family vet was asking close to $1000 to do it. I was very nervous as I hadn't met the doc before but had seen good reviews and even a coworker raved about this clinic. Suffice it to say that Nala did great. I LOVE Dr. Barrios, he's been our vet for over 20 years! He is very knowledgeable with all types of issues, simple to complicated, and is very talented in the OR if your pet ever needs surgery. Honestly I called and was able to get in 45 minutes later which was amazing. Clyde had a bout of diarrhea and the doctor and tech did absolutely everything to put me at ease and rule out any potential diseases which I was really worried about as I work with shelter dogs and while I take precautions I still worry about bringing things home. I was so worried about my baby dog because he means the world to me and the patience and care they had with him was great. He's really shy with strangers and I don't know anything about his background and the girls were so gentle and slow with him and it meant a lot to me. I've brought my cats here in the past for routine care and my elderly cat had a surgery and a few dentals. I live about 35 miles away from the clinic but it is absolutely worth the drive and I wouldn't trust any other vets with my beloved pets. They are very knowledgeable and they took the time to explain what was going on with Max and they gave me several options for treatment. So that I could make an informed decision on how to care for Max. When I called with concerns over the weekend the on call doctor followed up with me with in a half hour. The following is testimony from my Friend Tim. His wife and he took their pregnant dog to this location. Please stay away from this place if you love your animals:"We took our pregnant dog here to get an xray done to see how many puppies she had in her stomach. After the x-ray we were told she did not have puppies in there but instead a horrible infection in her uterus. We were advised that this infection needed to be taken care of immediately so she did not die. After 20 to 30 minutes of back and forth questioning and ensuring she was not pregnant we were told there were two options one to cut her open and take care of the infection immediately so does not take her life where to get an ultrasound done which would prolong and allow the infection to grow would be more dangerous if we got the ultrasound done at a different facility because they did not offer an ultrasound. So after saying they were 99.9% sure she was not pregnant and she had this infection we left our dog with them and a half hour later we get a call saying she had three puppies in there. We then were told the puppies were probably decaying and dead inside of her which was causing the white blood cell count to be high. We were encouraged to remove uterus anyways and get rid of the puppies inside of her. I said absolutely not sew her back up. After already having to pay $400 up front they wanted to charge us another $150 which I did not pay. So we took our dog and went to an emergency veterinary clinic right after we left there where we had an ultrasound done and they saw 3 healthy babies in there with heart beats that were 47 days old. If you love your animal do not go here especially seeing how the doctor and the surgeon tried putting the blame on me after all of this happened."-Tim Terwilliger Read Less

I am very happy with this vet and especially Dr.vivar. They don't vaccinate for money they take the pets consideration  into play. Age, ect. There have been two situations when they only do what is needed and not just because. This week I'm trying something new with this vet  and will report once I finish my findings. Barrios does not care about the animals, he only has one thing in mind - making money. I brought my cat in for vomiting and diarrhea. Without even coming in the exam room to look at my cat, Barrios prescribed a Complete Blood Count (CBC), another blood test & two-view x-ray totaling over $250. When we refused this treatment plan, he seemed so angry and prescribed another plan with three shots totaling to over $150, which we refused too. Barrios was so unhappy that we didn't take either of his hundred dollar plans that he was just plain out disrespectful, saying things like how my cat is always sick which is not true at all. In the end, we settled on only doing a CBC ($45), they took my cat to the backroom to get blood drawn, so we couldn't see anything; I was afraid that something was going to happen to my cat in the backroom since Barrio was so angry with us. When I got home, I noticed a huge bruise on my cat's neck from the site where they drew blood from. I would never go back to East Hartford Animal Clinic as Barrios only has one thing in mind - making money rather than the wellness of the animals. I have now gone to another vet who genuinely cares about the health of my cat; my new vet actually takes the time to find a real solution, not just what costs the most. Barrios does not show compassion for the animals, nor the desire to help them. As long as you are willing pay whatever fees and services he ditches out at you, then you will be with some respect; but if you actually care about the wellness of your pet, go somewhere else like I did. I brought my puppy here within 48 hrs of adopting her. I just wanted to make sure she has no health issues and establish a connection with a health care provider. I was late for about 20mins, but I called in and they were fine about it. I waited for about another 20 mins for a vet assistant to show up. She is very pleasant and friendly. She was also good with Libby. She tried to sell me a puppy care program but after knowing Libby has gotten half of her shots already from the rescue, she said I wouldn't really benefit from it. She also took the time to explain about the two spay/neuter programs the clinic has. She put Libby on a scale and found out that she was close to 2 lbs (how precious). The doctor walked in after another 20mins. He asked a few questions (e.g. does she cough, any diarrhea), looked at Libby and used a stethoscope to listen to her heart. He told me Libby seemed fine and he was ready to leave. I had to stopped him and ask him to check if she has fleas and why she has some scabs on her skin. His check-up was less than 3 mins. Had I not stopped him to ask questions, he would have walk out of the door. The reason I am upset with the vet is because after about a week, I found out Libby has worms. Lots of worms, at least two different types of worms. Her belly was bloated when I got her and I have assumed it was puppy fat. The doctor didn't think twice about her bloated belly or even mentioned anything about worms. I dewormed her myself and within 3 days she was worm free but poor Libby suffered for almost 2 weeks of this and also stunted her growth (guess where her food went?).The vet assistant gave me a stool sample tube when I left and asked me to bring back a sample next time I visit in a month. This is a little too late for that. Anyone who knows anything about worm cycles should know waiting for a month to test for them is too late. Also, when I asked the doc for suggestions for a chew treat for Libby, he suggested Greenies. I bought them and Libby loves them but later I found out online they are not suitable for puppies. Libby was 9 weeks old when she went to see him, he should know these kind of things. All in all, had the doctor been more attentive during his check up and missed something, I would be fine with it. It was the less-than-sufficent-3-min check up and then worms and the Greenies suggestion that upset me. I am giving this 2 stars because the vet assistant actually did her job but not the doctor.
