When I first adopted my dog about a year ago I went to a few vets trying to find the perfect fit. Glastonbury animal hospital is about thirty minutes from where I live but my family has been going there for years and years. When I finally took her there it was beyond a perfect fit, you just know they care about your pet and that they will make sure they are healthy and happy. You do not feel rushed when there and they take time to answer all your questions... even the silly ones. I also appreciate the way the charge you, I've been to a few vets that it just seems they only want your money and don't care about your pup. I am a crazy dog mom so I want a vet that I know cares and this place is it. Dr. Cotthaus is the best but I would be happy with ANY of the doctors. ALSO, the vet techs and especially the receptionists are amazing. I just recently had to go with my mom to take our 15 year old family dog there, she was very sick. Unfortunately, we had to put her down but they took such great care of her and made sure we were educated. We were able to take our time with our decision and our goodbyes. Everyone was so so caring, they sent my mom her paw print with flower seeds and told her if she plants them wildflowers will grow, a week later she received a card with a note from everyone there sending their regards. To summarize this very long winded review... if you love your pet and want to feel like your vet and the whole staff loves them just as much... take them to Glastonbury animal hospital. Read Less

My family has been taking our pets here since I was 10 years old, so for 25 years. They have always treated our pets with kindness and, when the time came to let them go, with the utmost level of compassion. After moving here two years ago, our "senior" dogs developed serious issues and both were dealt with extremely professionally. One had irreversible heart and other issues and Drs. Kirk and Marsh guided us and our pet through the end-of-life experience without a lot of doubt and unnecessary expense/suffering; and the other appeared to be on death's doorstep but Dr. Cotthaus developed a hypothesis about how to rejuvenate her that proved spot-on! We've been a client here since Steve St. Pierre opened the place in the 1970s.  We've always been satisfied with the vet services.  But since Rob Cotthaus took over, the place has gone downhill.  Part of it is due to his cocky, condescending attitude that even his staff is leary about.  He has been heard yelling at them in earshot of clients.  Prices have gone up - they are the highest in town.  Also, the choices he makes in the products he sells (Purina dog food) makes one question if he benefits in some way by marketing the line.  Just an overall negative experience, and most importantly, to our pets' detriment.  We had two major misdiagnoses, and ended up switching to another vet. We did not have the best experience, the doctor tried charging us for a checkup in addition to the money for the shot after we had already been approved for a shot-only appointment. Once we explained this to the lady at the front desk she treated us with very poor customer service and kept arguing that every time an animal comes in the owners are always charged with a checkup (even though we had paperwork that the doctor had waved the fee at home). We will not be attending the place again because the lady who checked us out was very poorly mannered and clearly does not know how to deal with people-get over yourself. Read Less

I have been bringing my now 13 year old Yorkie Here since he was a puppy. They have always treated me and my dog as part of their family. I can't say enough good things about the friendly staff and doctors! We mostly see Dr Rob Cotthaus who has been a pleasure and is so good at making us feel comfortable always in a friendly and informative way. Took me 4 phone calls with their staff to get my order of Heartguard for my dog put through. Constant phone calls trying to get me to purchase it through them after asking politely for them to stop selling me on it. Also everytime I go in I'm concerned for what they are going to charge me, my first visit they offered to clip his nails while doing a routine check up. It seemed polite enough and I was appreciative, then they charged me $40 for the 2 minutes of work that it sounded like they were politely offering to do for free. Read Less

Glastonbury Animal Hospital is fantastic!  When we moved to the area a few years ago we tried several different vets and were becoming frustrated at not finding the right place to take our dogs but then we found Glastonbury Animal Hospital and we are so thrilled that we did!  The staff and vets are professional, kind and caring.  We've already had to go through putting a pet down with them, adopting a new dog, and managing an illness for an older dog and they've been terrific every step of the way and with each unique situation.  I cannot recommend their services and their personalities enough! Its unfortunate there is not a 0 star area that would allow me to check, its deserved. While I appreciate this places ability (and all vets) to cure an animals health they do a horrible job at quoting the job which as we all know is an important part hence finding a vet you can trust. Not once but numerous times I have visited them and told one price only to find out at checkout it was very much different than I was told. In speaking with numerous people throughout the town the consensus was a vast majority also experienced the same issues at one point. Given there are not to many vet options in Glastonbury, many people like myself choose to not make a change until recently. The tipping point was this: At the very least I have tried to save some money by ordering my pet medication online this year to absorb some of my surprise vet costs which this same establishment had written the same prescription not even 10 months ago for. In trying to save $50+ on the cost for a few pills, when you order a pet script online the check with your local vet for approval. Needless to say it was denied two times. They asked that my pet come back in for the same cost it was last year, for a check up plus the cost of the meds. Needless to say there is not much effort what so ever to help retain there local customer base or simply apologize for all the situations that occur. You would think that the vets, assistants & front desk staff would be well trained in simple pricing and customer service & loyalty. Instead its occurred to me there a place that simply plays fast money given were a society that will do anything for our pets. You should have better luck the next town or two over.Read Less

My dogs have been going there for quite a while and every time we have tried to give them more chances they fail to improve. Our last visit was when I finally decided we have had enough. They tell you one price at the beginning and it ends up being a completely different one when you pull out your card at the end of the visit. Our last visit we were told 300 and it came out to 600. That is a big difference and was not the first time. I also tried to refill my dogs allergy medicine because the season is back and they told me he needed to be reevaluated in order to receive it again (probably to get another 600 dollars out of us) I am now on a search for a new vet and am more than happy to take him to get evaluated there because I refuse to take him back to this place. Completely unsatisfied and I do not recommend this place to anyone. Also the front desk have no clue what they are doing and are completely rude as well. Over the summer, our little dog, Bella, got out and ran across the street, I followed her and she decided to run back to our house. A pick up truck was coming very fast up the street and I began to scream at him to stop, he was on his cell and did not see Bella and hit her. I scooped her up and drove into town to Glastonbury Animal Hospital. I was not a current patient and they took her right away from me, and the gals calmed me down and made me feel as though everything would be ok. Thank goodness it was. I have 2 dogs (Lab & Cavalier). In addition, I am an avid dog foster for 2 rescue organizations. Dr Cotthaus and staff have provided my pets and foster the upmost care and compassion. They treat not only my dogs, but the foster dogs as if we are his only patients. They take the time to explain surgerys with pictures, speak in detail about follow up care and even call to check on the dogs. They are a very very caring facility.
