Dr. McGovern is the definition of "above and beyond." She took the time to listen to me and my concerns, addressing every one. Every test she did, she explained in detail the importance of it, how it worked, and even explained what the results meant. She kept me constantly updated on my pet (even including a picture of my cat when she had to stay there over night). She is extremely through and her genuine compassion for animals shines through her work. On Sunday 11/19/17 we had to put down our beloved Zippy. We were heartbroken yet didn't want to go someplace impersonal. They were more than understanding, put us in a room. We brought soothing music and the Vet was so comforting, telling us this is the greatest gift to him. It was heartbreaking to see him go. The Vet hugged us and we left. I was very happy with my experience at the Guilford Veterinary Hospital (Connecticut). I have recently moved to Guilford and needed to find a new vet for my dogs. I had been with my previous vet for about 15 years. It was a small office, and they knew me and all of my pets and even remembered the ones that had passed away. Suffice it to say, I had developed a lot of trust in their judgment and care. There are a lot of options for vets in the area and I was not sure where to go. I had a couple bad experiences with other offices in different towns (unprofessional staff) but a friend recommended GVH. I was very happy with the courtesy and professionalism of the front office staff. I very much liked the doctor we saw and the tech that worked with him. They were both very professional and I appreciated their calm and caring demeanor. It was an excellent first impression. It is a bigger office with a larger staff that I am used to but I can see this as a place where my animal friends will get excellent care. Read Less

My chocolate lab recently had surgery for a growth on his side. I have to say I am completely happy with the handling of his surgery, the discussions before and after the surgery regarding his condition, and the skill and compassion shown by Dr. Pixton. I have been using this vet practice for several years and am extremely satisfied. The office staff are courteous, I get an appointment the same day when I need a sick visit for one of my dogs. I have seen both Dr Pixton and Dr Soucie, and they have both called personally to review lab results with me and to see how my dog was doing after the sick visits. Excellent facility!  We brought our 10 year old terrier mix in for a checkup and long overdue dental work.  We were worried about putting our older dog through anesthesia, etc., but we met with Dr. Mullen who was fantastic and put us at ease -- he reassured us and explained what was best and why.  He is patient, thoughtful, caring and takes the time to explain everything to you.  Plus he is great with Ruby, our pooch.  He turned what could have been a grueling ordeal into a positive, learning experience.  Dr. DeAngelo did the actual dental work and she too is outstanding, a total pro.  She called before the procedure to update us -- again after it was over.  And the following day to check in and make sure all was well.  Other staff members also called us to check on Ruby's progress.  An amazing team -- everyone there is kind, caring and professional.  We are grateful our friends who recommended Guilford Veterinary Hospital highly.  They are the best! I cant say enough about GVH . I went there 19 years ago with my first rescue dog when we lived 15 min from them . We moved 45 min away and we continued to drive our 2nd rescue dog to Guilford Vet for care . My husband decided with our third rescue it was far and wanted to switch vets and we did for a short time but the care , knowledge competance and equipment is not quite the same at other vets . This last rescue dog had special needs she was abused . We tried the new vet and well they could not handle my new dog and called me to take her home . I knew what we had to do then . We returned to GVH and we still feel at home with them and remember on those long rides to them that they saved my first rescues dogs life several times -a bowel obstruction surgery , removal of mast cell cancer .I am so thankful and blessed and know my dog is back in good hands and with a vet who can take of her with any issue . Our primary vet has been the amazing Dr. Soucy, but we have seen almost every other vet in the practice and they have all been caring, compassionate and effective. First, the office staff is rude. They act like they are doing you a favor for caring for your dog! Second, the vets are ok but very condescending. This is my '4 legged child'! Treat me with respect - not much to ask.Third, the pricing is outrageous! They must charge significantly more than any other vet around because they are not busy - it definitely isn't because they are worth it!Fourth, did I mention how rude the office staff was???!!! We switched to Pet Shield in North Branford and they are so warm, affectionate AND were highly recommended to me by the Cornell Veterinary School! Read Less

I have been very pleased with my experience. They often have a lot going on, but I have found them professional, capable, helpful, kind and they have a healthy good sense of humor. The care of my dogs, including an extensive surgery, has been very positive. They have listened to what I want regarding my dogs, which is an enjoyable and quality life. Honestly the worst veterinary hospital I've ever dealt with. Every employee there is rude and the actual vet has misdiagnosed our dogs multiple times. Money is their main priority- not the animals health. Brought our dying dog in and they told us he was fine and sent us home (after hundreds of dollars were spent) ended up taking him to the emergency vet across the street and they saved his life. Went in just asking for flea and tick preventative medicine and they denied it because our dog was overdue for his yearly check up by a few days. Again, money is all they care about. Everyone was so nice.... especially Dr. Nordt. My poor kitty had a UTI and they got us right in. They made a big fuss over Ella.. she is little sweetheart. She received excellent care. And they were sympathetic to how hard it is to give a cat meds. An antibiotic shot saved us all a lot of stress. Sorry about all the noise she made... she is usually so quiet. Read Less

Need 2 rating systems; one for Vets/techs and one for the staff... Dr Soucy excellent surgeon and diagnostician; trust her with all of my pets and would refer her to anyone;also like Dr. Ackles. Techs are very helpful. Staff out front is 50/50 ; Linda and Patty are excellent; professional, thorough and compassionate The other's need attitude adjustments and to be reminded of who is the client; a few in particular have an overinflated sense of importance and are condescending and just rude at times. Partners need to clean house, there are too many good vets on the shoreline where people feel welcomed; if not for Dr Soucy and capabilities of the facility , I would have left this place long ago.... I would NEVER recommend this Veterinary Hospital to anyone. The doctor was rude and obnoxious. The bill was outrageous compared to other vets I've gone to and my pet is exactly the same, with no improvement so I had to go to another vet for consultation and diagnosis. And, when I called Guilford Vet Hospital to ask when the medication should take effect, they NEVER returned my call. I only went there as my vet was closed and I can say I will NEVER, NEVER go to this hospital again nor will I recommend it to anyone who cares about their pet's health. It's vets like Guilford Hospital who deter people from the pleasure of pet ownership. So sad. All about the money, and not the care. Read Less
