I agreed to bring my friends dog to the hospital because he was just released from the hospital. I live an hour away and had gotten lost, so I called the vet hospital at exactly the time I should have been there. I told them my appointment was now, but I was lost and asked for directions. Whomever answered the phone was of no help, but I was able to find my way, arriving only 10 minutes late. That's when I was informed that "I was marked as a no show" and my spot was given to the next patient. They said their policy does not allow anyone to keep their appointment if they are 10 minutes or longer late. Nobody previously ever mentioned the "late policy" to me. I explained my situation, told them I called and even offered to wait until the end of the day, just so this dog could get the car he needed. I was repeatedly told NO. I felt so helpless, and my heart ached for this poor dog. I didn't feel one ounce of compassion from these people.

We recently moved and our dog Colbie required urgent care before we had the opportunity to transfer care to a local veterinarian. However, Meriden Animal Hospital made quick accommodations to see Colbie. The best part though was the open, honest and timely communication from the staff, especially given the pandemic protocols. Overall, I felt like they treated my dog (and me) like we part of their inner circle. Needless to say, we found our vet.

We've been bringing our pets here for as long as I can remember. We love the staff and the newly renovated building is gorgeous. All the workers are so kind and trustworthy; I trust all the vets and techs with my fur babies. They are real and honest with their patients and they don't try to trick you into spending more money then necessary. They explain things thoroughly and spend time talking to you and answering any questions. Highly recommend

Found an abandoned, neutered cat near my apartment complex, and decided since this was the closest vet, I'd bring him here. Absolutely the weirdest most unprofessional situation I've ever been in. No rabies shot, no blood taken, no FIV test, nothing (and I have the cat sequestered in my house because I have OTHER animals) because the cat 'got wild' when they tried to do something in another room that no one saw (despite the vet bringing the rabies shot into the room we were in, so whatever they did in that other room was probably preventable by just not pulling him out of the room.They claimed the cat needed to be sedated, which made no sense, why not bring the cat back into the exam room and attempt again with the people the cat trusts, but no, instead of 'lightly sedating' on the spot (whatever that means) they charged us for the exam, scheduled no follow up appointment, and took $55 for the exam fee of which yielded us nothing to help us figure out if this cat is a danger to my cats.Horrifying experience. Should have been able to tell when I saw and smelled the place and exam room. I'd think twice about coming here. Never again.

I've been taking my dog to a vet in Hamden for 2 years but didn't love the doctor, had a difficult time understanding her recommendations, so I wanted to switch. I read online (facebook group, yelp) that the Meriden Animal Hospital was well-liked by a lot of people and highly recommended. We brought my dog here for a check up and Dr. James spent over an *hour* with us, answering questions, examining our pup, giving his recommendations and just kind of shooting the breeze. Due to my dog's age, he said we should have his teeth cleaned. I was very anxious about putting my dog under but a vet tech called right as they were doing the anesthesia and then Dr. James called us right when they finished the cleaning and my dog was waking up. I was nervous, but felt in the loop the whole time and was happy with how willing they were to call me!The office itself is very clean and much more modern than where I had been going - cleaner, overall. And both times we've gone I haven't had to wait even a minute before going into an exam room. The staff and techs are friendly as well. I'd definitely recommend bringing your dog or cat or other furry friend here!

We recently adopted ourselves a puppy and brought her here for her initial exam and vaccines. The staff were all super friendly and attentive. The vet took her time in answering our many questions and listened to our concerns. The place seems affordable but I don't have much to compare them too. The waiting room and check in area are pretty bland and basic but with water for humans and animals. Also a huge scale which is fun to weigh your pet on your own. Entrance and exit are well marked and property appears well maintained. They were pretty easy to get a "sick" visit when needed and always greet Lulu with a warm welcome and lots of pets.

Unfortunately, I had a nightmare of an experience. MAH has fantastic reviews which is why I started taking my pets there. I have 4 dogs and 2 cats. My newest member of the family went in to get spayed and came out with a wound that took over 3 months to heal and intense hydrotherapy and aftercare. MAH claimed she had an allergic reaction to her injection. I'm not a vet so I trusted the diagnosis and I trusted them. After speaking with multiple professionals (all stating they NEVER saw anything like it) I became skeptical. One vet said it looked more bacterial and highly likely it was caused from unsterile needles. In the process, I was still charged for her care and the medication necessary for treatment. They let the initial costs slide as a spray follow-up visit but then charged me for any aftercare that was necessary after that. They continued to to tell me since it was an allergic reaction I'm still responsible for any aftercare charges. The photos say it all really...My poor baby!!! Her flesh literally slowly fell off and now she has a scar for the rest of her life. I'm disgusted and will not be returning as a customer or put my babies in the care of MAH again. I understand things do happen, but I am not taking a chance again that's for sure. I do not recommend them as result of this situation.

My dog Dazz was a rescue, in very bad shape. Dr. James and his staff helped her then and is still helping her to date, 6 years later. She is prone to urinary tract infections, from being bread out as a pup. He is so good w/ her, gets down to her level and really explains to me what's going on. I highly recommend this vet and his staff. They definitely know there stuff and are very very caring g of all the patients who visit.

Overall this is a good place. However, yesterday we had to put our dog down. This decision to do that was incredibly hard as he was a major part of the family. The vet who gave him the injection was okay. She couldn’t find his vein I don’t know if she was nervous because she was new but okay. Before he passed, I asked the tech if I could have some of his fur to remember him (I picked up the fur from his arm where they shaved for the injection). She said “of course, people ask all the time”. After he passed, she asked me where I would like the fur from, like if I had a favorite spot. I just said “his back I guess?” She pulled out a razor, pulled him up by his skin and started shaving his body. I was speechless. She didn’t warn me that she was going to do it then. I thought maybe they’d do it after and give it to us with his ashes. She left his body there with a huge bald spot RIGHT after we just lost him. And then left the razor next to him in the bed and left. It was a horrible experience and I hope this doesn’t happen again to anyone.

Ive had dogs for over 20yrs of my adult life and i can assure you, Dr. James has the best bedside manner of any vet ive been to (Ohio, Fla, CT). He grew up in a veterinary office with his father at the helm. I've also never had better follow up care (not to mention care while my dogs are at their office) than from Dr. Anderson. She is dedicated to the point that i question whether her family EVER gets to see her. I LOVE THESE VETERINARIANS!!!

I've had two experiences with the Meriden Animal Hospital so far; one was an emergency visit for my cat and then I brought my other cat for a well visit the other day. I was super early and the waiting room was PACKED, but all of the other animals waiting were behaving. I was a little annoyed that people who came after me were seen first but then I realized they have "small animal" rooms and "large animal" rooms and it all made sense. Both the vet tech and the vet were really friendly and happily answered my questions. The price was not outrageous and they didn't suggest a litany of unnecessary tests as other vets have done in the past.

I use to use this practice years ago. I had very bad experiences with the receptionist Dana. Causing me to leave as she was rude and didn’t seem to care. It was a shame as I missed the doctors and her attitude caused several people to leave the practice.
Now bring us to the last month! I adopted an 11 month old pup that had 4 previous home prior to me. He had pain in his tail and needed to get neutered i had some paperwork that states he was a past client here so i reside to take him to been seen here as you all at least had a bit of history on our boy!!!
I called and was pleasantly surprised but the receptionist as she was polite she listened knew what i needed for my pup and got us in later that day!!! She knew i was worried as i knew his tail was painful for him.
This brings me to meeting Dr. Twarog!! She was caring she remember him and was just a breath of fresh air!!!! She agreed his tail was painful asked me if i plan on neuter she stated would be best to do neuter and X-ray on tail at the same time not to put him under more than nessasary!!! I appreciated that. She fit is in the following day for surgery but still sent him home on and anti inflammatory and pain med to make sure he was comfy for the night!!! I was well informed on what to do and what not to do by the technician!!!!
Surgery and X-ray was over he was able to come home same night as he is a spicy little man and was more than ready. I again was told all that i needed to know to care for him at home and the does and don’t!!!! I’m very well versed in animal care but was still nice to know they took the time to make sure i knew what i needed to to keep him safe!!!!!!
I am so happy to be back!!!!!! The atmosphere has changed so much for the better!!!!! And as always Doctor St. Clair has always rocked!!!!!

So I called the have my dog come in for a nail trim. The girl who I spoke to said I need an exam appt bc my dog never been there. I told her they tried to do his anal a while back. I explained he's UTD on vaccines an I gave her my current 2nd vet who's out of state information. She said she'll call have them fax his records and call me back. I waited 4 5 hrs. Didn't hear back. I called and it was the same girl who I spoke to before. She said that they just got it. Which is a lie bc my vet in MA is very fast to respond and on top of everything. I even called an spoke to them and they faxed earlier. Anyways. The girl said she got got it and was gonna call me back and said he's UTD an I asked if I need an appt. She said well it's a walk in service but we have to book for tomorrow. So how does a walk In service work if you need an appointment? Makes no since. It's a nail trim. So I have to go to petco now. Thanks I'm just gonna have to go all the way out of my way for a nail trim.
When they tried to do his anal glands he wasn't happy. An was a naughty one. But not biting. The doc said we don't wanna traumatize him. I said well that's why I'm coming here. Bc he already is. So if you can't do it then who can? Another vet I suppose.

If you suspect your dog is having joint pain or issues please consider scheduling an appointment w/ Dr. St Clair. Our previous vet was very capable and kind but I felt had little experience with spotting joint pain and issues. Our Shiba Inu had torn his ACL about 3/4. We opted for the Suture Stabilization surgery. It was the best fit for our dogs needs. It's been about 6 weeks and he's doing really, really good. We followed the dr's instructions, although difficult at times, but it MUST be done or the surgery will be for nothing. The booklet provided by Dr. St. Clair was informative, thorough and a lifesaver for post surgery care. I don't know why more vets don't discuss this w their pet owners after surgery. He won't ever be 100% because of other issues he's had since he was a puppy, but this was a quality of life choice for us and it made sense. The cost was very reasonable and affordable, but we honestly would have done it either way.

My husband and I did a lot of research to where to bring our fur babies once we moved to the area. Their health is important to us, so we want to make sure they get the best care possible. Based upon the reviews we found, we decided to bring them here, and I am so glad we did. Everyone from the receptionists to techs to vets are extremely friendly. Our fur babies are extremely comfortable with them. Our family includes one dog and 3 cats. The place is really easy to find. It's about 1 mile off exit 67 off the Wilbur crossway. The inside could use a little updating, it's definitely outdated. I wish the counter was a little lower though. Would make it easier for me to swipe my credit card (or if I'm wishing for things, I wish a was a little taller! ) After you check in, they will tell you what room number you need to head to. The rooms are clearly numbered. You can tell that they really do care about the health and wellbeing of their patients. I highly recommend them if you live in the area!

My cat broke his foot in a very difficult place. Dr. Stacia and Dr. James worked with us to give him the best possible outcomes. Turned out the best outcome was amputation which we went through with. Dr. Stacia and Dr. James were super friendly and kept me in the loop with everything. The price was expensive, but it is a major surgery and requires medication. Was happy to hear that they would work with me on the price. My cat is doing well now thanks to this awesome staff.

Each vet is excellent and they are always anxious to help your pet and ease your mind as a worried pet owner.We have taken 4+ dogs, 4+ cats, and even our rabbits here over the years. I will continue to bring all our pets here in the future and recommend them to everyone. Their prices are very reasonable, they will work with you on payments, and they're always kind enough to provide you prices immediately during the appointment/over the phone without judgement. Having afford very expensive medications and procedures it was peace of mind to know what the costs would be ahead of time.If your looking for a great vet it is them. Whenever our pets are sick were typically seen same day and they will even watch our pet from 8am until I can pick up after work if they feel they can provide supervision/monitoring and treatment by the vet at some point throughout the day. This makes me feel much more comfortable than leaving my sick pet home alone where I cannot monitor them.

She was very informative & answered all our questions. It is a bustling place with ours 6 days a week. Wednesday's is their late day for appts. We will meet another Vet in 2 weeks. This hospital was rated best in Meriden when we first searched for a Vet. We also needed weekend and a late weekday appt. slots for convenience.

Seriously happy I found this place. Dr James is just...awesome! My cat Sonic was sick with a respiratory infection. Dr. James was very thorough and explained everything to me. He prescribed antibiotics to Sonic and he was feeling better within a few days. I felt completely comfortable there. You can that the staff truly love what they do, and that they are there to help your pet, and not just there to make a quick dollar. Dr. James kept everything straight up with me and didn't try to over-sell me any products, or run unnecessary tests just to charge me more. The rest of the staff was just as friendly and pleasant. Dr. James worked diligently for years helping my parents to stabilize our diabetic dog - as well as teaching us how to care for him. Although he always kept a professional demeanor, it was easy to see that he too was upset upon giving up the news that our dog had a large mass on his spleen. It is this type of comprehensive care that keeps my family using this practice. More recently I had the honor of adopting a one-eyed kitten from Meriden Animal Hospital that was saved ONLY because of the compassion that the doctors at this practice work with. She is now 13 weeks old, completely healthy, happy, and a bumble of joy. A little cat that was given a life, solely because one doctor, Dr. Stacia, decided she was worthy of being fixed. Everyone there comes highly recommended, and the care comes with smiles (and since everyone always asks), very reasonable prices.

Dr James is one of the BEST!! The place does not look like much but the care your animal gets is the best, he is straight forward, compassionate and extremely funny.I have had the best experiences with him, he saved my precious bulldog a few years ago after another vet misdiagnosed her and she was close to death, Dr James performed surgery on her immediately & found a small quarter size piece of rubber (from a toy) had lodged in her intestines, he saved my dog and found what was wrong immediately! I am forever in his debt. My other bulldog is a rescue and was abused but he is a perfect angel with me he just doesn't do well with others, the staff has been really understanding when I need to bring him in and they get us right into a room and Dr. James has assisted me in any way I ask not to make the visit too stressful for my guy, I love the way they always work with me and give me the assistance I need having a difficult dog,it makes life less stressful for us all! If you are new to the area or need a new vet, please go see them, you will never find a better Dr. that cares and will take the time to talk to you and also call you , not his staff, he actually takes the time to call you, that is really important, the personal touches mean a lot. My guy may have been a rescue and may have some trauma in his past but he saved me more than I save him and I will do whatever it takes to give him the best life possible and make up for the neglect that someone else caused him and Dr. James has also rescued a bulldog, Martin so he is just as compassionate in his personal life with animals as he will be with your animal, that's what all animal lovers want! Dr James St Clair and staff, you are the best there is and I would never trust anyone else with the love's of my life, my precious bulldogs!! thank you so much for all you do!

Its hard for me to write my review, because it was under the worst of circumstances but I am eternally grateful to this amazing vet for what they did. Lets start off with the fact that our vet Dr. Anderson is compassionate, knowledgable and calls all the animals children. One thing about this vet is that they are obviously animal people...after going to this vet it was clear to me that my other vet was certainly not.My kitty was very sick, she understood our concern and took the appropriate action IMMEDIATELY, no run around, no you need to bring him back and forth. When the results came back they were not good, but I felt much better knowing this vet did everything they could. I live with regret that I was not bringing my child to this vet before because I wonder if things would have happened the same way had I brought him here in the first place.When it came time to put my kitty to sleep they were compassionate although I have not gotten the ashes yet. Prices are very reasonable with this vet and there is no doubt when we are ready to adopt another child we will be going here for all of their care.

So for most animal parents we get a bit nervous when our four legged children are not feeling well. Unlike human kids, they can not tell you where it hurts or what kind of pain it is. So when my dog was pretty out of it for a couple of days and decided that he was suddenly not going to put any weight on his hind paw, we were worried. I had heard good things about Meriden Animal Hospital and wanted to get our boy in there. Now when you think of a hospital you think of urgent care, they however, do not run like an urgent care facility at all. Told them that our dog seemed to have injured his paw and he was displaying some uncharacteristic behaviors, like not eating or pooping and "Bridget" kept saying " like yeah, we are too busy today" .... WHAT??? The ER gets too busy and they do not turn anyone away or make excuses. So after half a dozen phone calls we found Pieper Memorial in Middletown. Not only did they get him in right away they did not charge an arm and a leg either. I think if the Meriden Animal Hospital wants to keep business from their own town, they may just want to put someone new on the phones... someone who can empathize with potential patient parents. Not some teenage valley girl who doesn't want to bother even asking if the vets can squeeze another in for the day. HOSPITAL= URGENT!!!

The staff are friendly and compassionate. Dr. James and Dr. Amy are the best around. Their care is EXCELLENT. This vet was recommended to me by my mother a few years ago. Having had animals my whole life i have used almost every vet in Meriden. Since finding Meriden Animal Hospital I will NOT go anywhere else!!! they are AMAZING!!!! I love them and my animals love them! I have been going there now for a little over 2years, they have always gone above and beyond my expectations, fitting me in even at the last minute, working with payments when needed, doing little extras at no charge, being very practical not trying to run unnecessary test or do unnecessary procedures but most of all they actually listen to you!! They are very skilled and professional at what they do and I know because just yesterday my very large dog had a very complicated surgery, they stayed in touch with me the whole day letting me know exactly what was going on and what my options were, also keeping my dog comfortable and doing what was best for him. My dog stayed overnight for observation and I got him back today, happy and healthy. Thanks to Dr. St.Clair and the staff at Meriden Animal Hospital my dog will now live a long and healthy life. I highly recommend this vet!!

If I could give 0 stars, I would. This afternoon, my dog got ahold of an apple core and began choking. We had just recently brought him to CT and did not yet have a primary vet. I called Meriden Animal Hospital and explained the situation. I informed them I would be there in 10 minutes, the woman responded, "we'll be ready". I frantically drove the 10 minutes to the office and carried my dog to the door. A large blonde woman came out and asked, "can I help you?" I told her I had just called about a choking dog, she responded of yes, I spoke to you. She then added, "one of my doctors is in surgery and the other is out right now, so you should go somewhere else." I asked what had changed since I called 10 minutes ago, she responded, "what do you want me to do?" This is just what someone wants to hear as their pet gasps for air after having driven across town to a vet. Dr. James, we never met, but your staff is anything but professional and courteous. Anyone reading this should take the few extra minutes to drive to the VCA in Cheshire (the place we ended up). Don't bother going here as they certainly will not be interested in helping, and will only serve to delay your pet reciving the needed care by an extra 20 minutes. Boo to you dog haters!!!!

Just started using Dr. James for my cats and found him to be professional and knowledgeable. We went there because one of our cats was losing lots of weight and we were getting concerned so we made a appointment. Dr. James took the time to explain the entire diagnosis and all our options. Unfortunately the diagnosis was cancer and we had to put her down a few weeks later. That is a horrible experience especially when you have a strong bond with your pets, but I must say I was comforted by how Dr. James brought us through this. The staff was not to friendly but were proficient.

This vet came recommended after my regular vet refused to do a surgery on my dog because they needed to "find out where it came from" when it was a simple case of bad genetics. The vet from meriden took us in on a friends request to help us, and looked at my dog and agreed my dog's eye needed to be removed (it had ruptured) and scheduled surgery within a day.They waived my office visit, did dentistry work that was again at NO CHARGE and much more. They were very great to work with, and my dog is much happier now that she has no more pain from her eye. These are great docs who understand the love one has for their pets and also the reality of dealing with their illnesses, and i would never EVER go anywhere else! They listen to the owners too, which apparently is rare in the field! My friend has 6 dogs to my one- and I cant thank him or the great team in Meriden for my dog! THANK YOU!!!

Place is a joke full of fleas. They would rather send me a letter that cost them approximately $1.00 and 10 minutes of their time, then to call me and remind me of my appointment which will cost almost nothing and seconds of their time. Why didn't they send me a letter to remind me. I guess their just out for the money. They can have the $25.00 fee. No problem. They will loss in the end. I have two pups who are going to require vet visits in the future. I'm taking my business elsewhere. My friends and family will never get this place as a recommendation.

I agreed to bring my friends dog to the hospital because he was just released from the hospital. I live an hour away and had gotten lost, so I called the vet hospital at exactly the time I should have been there. I told them my appointment was now, but I was lost and asked for directions. Whomever answered the phone was of no help, but I was able to find my way, arriving only 10 minutes late. That's when I was informed that "I was marked as a no show" and my spot was given to the next patient. They said their policy does not allow anyone to keep their appointment if they are 10 minutes or longer late. Nobody previously ever mentioned the "late policy" to me. I explained my situation, told them I called and even offered to wait until the end of the day, just so this dog could get the car he needed. I was repeatedly told NO. I felt so helpless, and my heart ached for this poor dog. I didn't feel one ounce of compassion from these people.

We recently moved and our dog Colbie required urgent care before we had the opportunity to transfer care to a local veterinarian. However, Meriden Animal Hospital made quick accommodations to see Colbie. The best part though was the open, honest and timely communication from the staff, especially given the pandemic protocols. Overall, I felt like they treated my dog (and me) like we part of their inner circle. Needless to say, we found our vet.

All the workers are so kind and trustworthy; I trust all the vets and techs with my fur babies. They are real and honest with their patients and they don't try to trick you into spending more money then necessary. Found an abandoned, neutered cat near my apartment complex, and decided since this was the closest vet, I'd bring him here. Absolutely the weirdest most unprofessional situation I've ever been in. No rabies shot, no blood taken, no FIV test, nothing (and I have the cat sequestered in my house because I have OTHER animals) because the cat 'got wild' when they tried to do something in another room that no one saw (despite the vet bringing the rabies shot into the room we were in, so whatever they did in that other room was probably preventable by just not pulling him out of the room.They claimed the cat needed to be sedated, which made no sense, why not bring the cat back into the exam room and attempt again with the people the cat trusts, but no, instead of 'lightly sedating' on the spot (whatever that means) they charged us for the exam, scheduled no follow up appointment, and took $55 for the exam fee of which yielded us nothing to help us figure out if this cat is a danger to my cats.Horrifying experience. Should have been able to tell when I saw and smelled the place and exam room. I'd think twice about coming here. Never again.

I've been taking my dog to a vet in Hamden for 2 years but didn't love the doctor, had a difficult time understanding her recommendations, so I wanted to switch. I read online (facebook group, yelp) that the Meriden Animal Hospital was well-liked by a lot of people and highly recommended. We brought my dog here for a check up and Dr. James spent over an *hour* with us, answering questions, examining our pup, giving his recommendations and just kind of shooting the breeze. Due to my dog's age, he said we should have his teeth cleaned. I was very anxious about putting my dog under but a vet tech called right as they were doing the anesthesia and then Dr. James called us right when they finished the cleaning and my dog was waking up. I was nervous, but felt in the loop the whole time and was happy with how willing they were to call me!The office itself is very clean and much more modern than where I had been going - cleaner, overall. And both times we've gone I haven't had to wait even a minute before going into an exam room. The staff and techs are friendly as well. I'd definitely recommend bringing your dog or cat or other furry friend here!

We recently adopted ourselves a puppy and brought her here for her initial exam and vaccines. The staff were all super friendly and attentive. The vet took her time in answering our many questions and listened to our concerns. The place seems affordable but I don't have much to compare them too. The waiting room and check in area are pretty bland and basic but with water for humans and animals. Also a huge scale which is fun to weigh your pet on your own. Entrance and exit are well marked and property appears well maintained. They were pretty easy to get a "sick" visit when needed and always greet Lulu with a warm welcome and lots of pets.

Unfortunately, I had a nightmare of an experience. MAH has fantastic reviews which is why I started taking my pets there. I have 4 dogs and 2 cats. My newest member of the family went in to get spayed and came out with a wound that took over 3 months to heal and intense hydrotherapy and aftercare. MAH claimed she had an allergic reaction to her injection. I'm not a vet so I trusted the diagnosis and I trusted them. After speaking with multiple professionals (all stating they NEVER saw anything like it) I became skeptical. One vet said it looked more bacterial and highly likely it was caused from unsterile needles. In the process, I was still charged for her care and the medication necessary for treatment. They let the initial costs slide as a spray follow-up visit but then charged me for any aftercare that was necessary after that. They continued to to tell me since it was an allergic reaction I'm still responsible for any aftercare charges. The photos say it all really...My poor baby!!! Her flesh literally slowly fell off and now she has a scar for the rest of her life. I'm disgusted and will not be returning as a customer or put my babies in the care of MAH again. I understand things do happen, but I am not taking a chance again that's for sure. I do not recommend them as result of this situation.

My dog Dazz was a rescue, in very bad shape. Dr. James and his staff helped her then and is still helping her to date, 6 years later. She is prone to urinary tract infections, from being bread out as a pup. He is so good w/ her, gets down to her level and really explains to me what's going on. I highly recommend this vet and his staff. They definitely know there stuff and are very very caring g of all the patients who visit.

Overall this is a good place. However, yesterday we had to put our dog down. This decision to do that was incredibly hard as he was a major part of the family. The vet who gave him the injection was okay. She couldn’t find his vein I don’t know if she was nervous because she was new but okay. Before he passed, I asked the tech if I could have some of his fur to remember him (I picked up the fur from his arm where they shaved for the injection). She said “of course, people ask all the time”. After he passed, she asked me where I would like the fur from, like if I had a favorite spot. I just said “his back I guess?” She pulled out a razor, pulled him up by his skin and started shaving his body. I was speechless. She didn’t warn me that she was going to do it then. I thought maybe they’d do it after and give it to us with his ashes. She left his body there with a huge bald spot RIGHT after we just lost him. And then left the razor next to him in the bed and left. It was a horrible experience and I hope this doesn’t happen again to anyone.

I've had two experiences with the Meriden Animal Hospital so far; one was an emergency visit for my cat and then I brought my other cat for a well visit the other day. I was super early and the waiting room was PACKED, but all of the other animals waiting were behaving. I was a little annoyed that people who came after me were seen first but then I realized they have "small animal" rooms and "large animal" rooms and it all made sense. Both the vet tech and the vet were really friendly and happily answered my questions. The price was not outrageous and they didn't suggest a litany of unnecessary tests as other vets have done in the past.

I use to use this practice years ago. I had very bad experiences with the receptionist Dana. Causing me to leave as she was rude and didn’t seem to care. It was a shame as I missed the doctors and her attitude caused several people to leave the practice.
Now bring us to the last month! I adopted an 11 month old pup that had 4 previous home prior to me. He had pain in his tail and needed to get neutered i had some paperwork that states he was a past client here so i reside to take him to been seen here as you all at least had a bit of history on our boy!!!
I called and was pleasantly surprised but the receptionist as she was polite she listened knew what i needed for my pup and got us in later that day!!! She knew i was worried as i knew his tail was painful for him.
This brings me to meeting Dr. Twarog!! She was caring she remember him and was just a breath of fresh air!!!! She agreed his tail was painful asked me if i plan on neuter she stated would be best to do neuter and X-ray on tail at the same time not to put him under more than nessasary!!! I appreciated that. She fit is in the following day for surgery but still sent him home on and anti inflammatory and pain med to make sure he was comfy for the night!!! I was well informed on what to do and what not to do by the technician!!!!
Surgery and X-ray was over he was able to come home same night as he is a spicy little man and was more than ready. I again was told all that i needed to know to care for him at home and the does and don’t!!!! I’m very well versed in animal care but was still nice to know they took the time to make sure i knew what i needed to to keep him safe!!!!!!
I am so happy to be back!!!!!! The atmosphere has changed so much for the better!!!!! And as always Doctor St. Clair has always rocked!!!!!

I explained he's UTD on vaccines an I gave her my current 2nd vet who's out of state information. She said she'll call have them fax his records and call me back. I waited 4 5 hrs. Didn't hear back. I called and it was the same girl who I spoke to before. She said that they just got it. Which is a lie bc my vet in MA is very fast to respond and on top of everything. I even called an spoke to them and they faxed earlier. Anyways. The girl said she got got it and was gonna call me back and said he's UTD an I asked if I need an appt. She said well it's a walk in service but we have to book for tomorrow. So how does a walk In service work if you need an appointment? Makes no since. It's a nail trim. So I have to go to petco now. Thanks I'm just gonna have to go all the way out of my way for a nail trim.
When they tried to do his anal glands he wasn't happy. An was a naughty one. But not biting. The doc said we don't wanna traumatize him. I said well that's why I'm coming here. Bc he already is. So if you can't do it then who can? Another vet I suppose.

If you suspect your dog is having joint pain or issues please consider scheduling an appointment w/ Dr. St Clair. Our previous vet was very capable and kind but I felt had little experience with spotting joint pain and issues. Our Shiba Inu had torn his ACL about 3/4. We opted for the Suture Stabilization surgery. It was the best fit for our dogs needs. It's been about 6 weeks and he's doing really, really good. We followed the dr's instructions, although difficult at times, but it MUST be done or the surgery will be for nothing. The booklet provided by Dr. St. Clair was informative, thorough and a lifesaver for post surgery care. I don't know why more vets don't discuss this w their pet owners after surgery. He won't ever be 100% because of other issues he's had since he was a puppy, but this was a quality of life choice for us and it made sense. The cost was very reasonable and affordable, but we honestly would have done it either way.

My husband and I did a lot of research to where to bring our fur babies once we moved to the area. Their health is important to us, so we want to make sure they get the best care possible. Based upon the reviews we found, we decided to bring them here, and I am so glad we did. Everyone from the receptionists to techs to vets are extremely friendly. Our fur babies are extremely comfortable with them. Our family includes one dog and 3 cats. The place is really easy to find. It's about 1 mile off exit 67 off the Wilbur crossway. The inside could use a little updating, it's definitely outdated. I wish the counter was a little lower though. Would make it easier for me to swipe my credit card (or if I'm wishing for things, I wish a was a little taller! ) After you check in, they will tell you what room number you need to head to. The rooms are clearly numbered. You can tell that they really do care about the health and wellbeing of their patients. I highly recommend them if you live in the area!

Each vet is excellent and they are always anxious to help your pet and ease your mind as a worried pet owner.We have taken 4+ dogs, 4+ cats, and even our rabbits here over the years. I will continue to bring all our pets here in the future and recommend them to everyone. Their prices are very reasonable, they will work with you on payments, and they're always kind enough to provide you prices immediately during the appointment/over the phone without judgement. Having afford very expensive medications and procedures it was peace of mind to know what the costs would be ahead of time.If your looking for a great vet it is them. Whenever our pets are sick were typically seen same day and they will even watch our pet from 8am until I can pick up after work if they feel they can provide supervision/monitoring and treatment by the vet at some point throughout the day. This makes me feel much more comfortable than leaving my sick pet home alone where I cannot monitor them.

Seriously happy I found this place. Dr James is just...awesome! My cat Sonic was sick with a respiratory infection. Dr. James was very thorough and explained everything to me. He prescribed antibiotics to Sonic and he was feeling better within a few days. I felt completely comfortable there. You can that the staff truly love what they do, and that they are there to help your pet, and not just there to make a quick dollar. Dr. James kept everything straight up with me and didn't try to over-sell me any products, or run unnecessary tests just to charge me more. The rest of the staff was just as friendly and pleasant. I will absolutely bring my pets here again! Thank you!

Dr. James worked diligently for years helping my parents to stabilize our diabetic dog - as well as teaching us how to care for him. Although he always kept a professional demeanor, it was easy to see that he too was upset upon giving up the news that our dog had a large mass on his spleen. It is this type of comprehensive care that keeps my family using this practice. More recently I had the honor of adopting a one-eyed kitten from Meriden Animal Hospital that was saved ONLY because of the compassion that the doctors at this practice work with. She is now 13 weeks old, completely healthy, happy, and a bumble of joy. A little cat that was given a life, solely because one doctor, Dr. Stacia, decided she was worthy of being fixed. Everyone there comes highly recommended, and the care comes with smiles (and since everyone always asks), very reasonable prices.

The place does not look like much but the care your animal gets is the best, he is straight forward, compassionate and extremely funny.I have had the best experiences with him, he saved my precious bulldog a few years ago after another vet misdiagnosed her and she was close to death, Dr James performed surgery on her immediately & found a small quarter size piece of rubber (from a toy) had lodged in her intestines, he saved my dog and found what was wrong immediately! I am forever in his debt. My other bulldog is a rescue and was abused but he is a perfect angel with me he just doesn't do well with others, the staff has been really understanding when I need to bring him in and they get us right into a room and Dr. James has assisted me in any way I ask not to make the visit too stressful for my guy, I love the way they always work with me and give me the assistance I need having a difficult dog,it makes life less stressful for us all! If you are new to the area or need a new vet, please go see them, you will never find a better Dr. that cares and will take the time to talk to you and also call you , not his staff, he actually takes the time to call you, that is really important, the personal touches mean a lot. My guy may have been a rescue and may have some trauma in his past but he saved me more than I save him and I will do whatever it takes to give him the best life possible and make up for the neglect that someone else caused him and Dr. James has also rescued a bulldog, Martin so he is just as compassionate in his personal life with animals as he will be with your animal, that's what all animal lovers want! Dr James St Clair and staff, you are the best there is and I would never trust anyone else with the love's of my life, my precious bulldogs!! thank you so much for all you do!

Its hard for me to write my review, because it was under the worst of circumstances but I am eternally grateful to this amazing vet for what they did. Lets start off with the fact that our vet Dr. Anderson is compassionate, knowledgable and calls all the animals children. One thing about this vet is that they are obviously animal people...after going to this vet it was clear to me that my other vet was certainly not.My kitty was very sick, she understood our concern and took the appropriate action IMMEDIATELY, no run around, no you need to bring him back and forth. When the results came back they were not good, but I felt much better knowing this vet did everything they could. I live with regret that I was not bringing my child to this vet before because I wonder if things would have happened the same way had I brought him here in the first place.When it came time to put my kitty to sleep they were compassionate although I have not gotten the ashes yet. Prices are very reasonable with this vet and there is no doubt when we are ready to adopt another child we will be going here for all of their care.

So for most animal parents we get a bit nervous when our four legged children are not feeling well. Unlike human kids, they can not tell you where it hurts or what kind of pain it is. So when my dog was pretty out of it for a couple of days and decided that he was suddenly not going to put any weight on his hind paw, we were worried. I had heard good things about Meriden Animal Hospital and wanted to get our boy in there. Now when you think of a hospital you think of urgent care, they however, do not run like an urgent care facility at all. Told them that our dog seemed to have injured his paw and he was displaying some uncharacteristic behaviors, like not eating or pooping and "Bridget" kept saying " like yeah, we are too busy today" .... WHAT??? The ER gets too busy and they do not turn anyone away or make excuses. So after half a dozen phone calls we found Pieper Memorial in Middletown. Not only did they get him in right away they did not charge an arm and a leg either. I think if the Meriden Animal Hospital wants to keep business from their own town, they may just want to put someone new on the phones... someone who can empathize with potential patient parents. Not some teenage valley girl who doesn't want to bother even asking if the vets can squeeze another in for the day. HOSPITAL= URGENT!!!

Since finding Meriden Animal Hospital I will NOT go anywhere else!!! they are AMAZING!!!! I love them and my animals love them! I have been going there now for a little over 2years, they have always gone above and beyond my expectations, fitting me in even at the last minute, working with payments when needed, doing little extras at no charge, being very practical not trying to run unnecessary test or do unnecessary procedures but most of all they actually listen to you!! They are very skilled and professional at what they do and I know because just yesterday my very large dog had a very complicated surgery, they stayed in touch with me the whole day letting me know exactly what was going on and what my options were, also keeping my dog comfortable and doing what was best for him. My dog stayed overnight for observation and I got him back today, happy and healthy. Thanks to Dr. St.Clair and the staff at Meriden Animal Hospital my dog will now live a long and healthy life. I highly recommend this vet!!

If I could give 0 stars, I would. This afternoon, my dog got ahold of an apple core and began choking. We had just recently brought him to CT and did not yet have a primary vet. I called Meriden Animal Hospital and explained the situation. I informed them I would be there in 10 minutes, the woman responded, "we'll be ready". I frantically drove the 10 minutes to the office and carried my dog to the door. A large blonde woman came out and asked, "can I help you?" I told her I had just called about a choking dog, she responded of yes, I spoke to you. She then added, "one of my doctors is in surgery and the other is out right now, so you should go somewhere else." I asked what had changed since I called 10 minutes ago, she responded, "what do you want me to do?" This is just what someone wants to hear as their pet gasps for air after having driven across town to a vet. Dr. James, we never met, but your staff is anything but professional and courteous. Anyone reading this should take the few extra minutes to drive to the VCA in Cheshire (the place we ended up). Don't bother going here as they certainly will not be interested in helping, and will only serve to delay your pet reciving the needed care by an extra 20 minutes. Boo to you dog haters!!!!

Just started using Dr. James for my cats and found him to be professional and knowledgeable. We went there because one of our cats was losing lots of weight and we were getting concerned so we made a appointment. Dr. James took the time to explain the entire diagnosis and all our options. Unfortunately the diagnosis was cancer and we had to put her down a few weeks later. That is a horrible experience especially when you have a strong bond with your pets, but I must say I was comforted by how Dr. James brought us through this. The staff was not to friendly but were proficient.

This vet came recommended after my regular vet refused to do a surgery on my dog because they needed to "find out where it came from" when it was a simple case of bad genetics. The vet from meriden took us in on a friends request to help us, and looked at my dog and agreed my dog's eye needed to be removed (it had ruptured) and scheduled surgery within a day.They waived my office visit, did dentistry work that was again at NO CHARGE and much more. They were very great to work with, and my dog is much happier now that she has no more pain from her eye. These are great docs who understand the love one has for their pets and also the reality of dealing with their illnesses, and i would never EVER go anywhere else! They listen to the owners too, which apparently is rare in the field! My friend has 6 dogs to my one- and I cant thank him or the great team in Meriden for my dog! THANK YOU!!!

Place is a joke full of fleas. They would rather send me a letter that cost them approximately $1.00 and 10 minutes of their time, then to call me and remind me of my appointment which will cost almost nothing and seconds of their time. Why didn't they send me a letter to remind me. I guess their just out for the money. They can have the $25.00 fee. No problem. They will loss in the end. I have two pups who are going to require vet visits in the future. I'm taking my business elsewhere. My friends and family will never get this place as a recommendation.
