We rescued a puppy from a local animal shelter & Companion is the vet that took care of her spaying. When we picked her up, her incision was completely exposed, no gauze/dressings, no protective bandages, etc., nor was she given a cone to wear... for a VERY active high energy 9mth old puppy?? Needless to say due to her high energy & being a curious puppy she started gnawing at her incision & it started to leak...so we brought her back in for her wound to be checked & dressed for protection....we picked her back up later that day along with a $150 bill! I called & spoke w/"Dr. Stephanie" who contends that they did everything right & they stand by their exorbitant fees (for example$25 for a shoddy bandage that fell off of her a few hrs after being home!)...she also says that had she been wearing the cone she gave my husband when he picked her up, that she wouldn't have been able to tamper with her incision...she LIED because she NEVER gave him a cone for her to wear when we left! When we pointed this out to her, she was like oh well you can always come in to get one then...but their $150+ bill stands. This place is a RIP OFF & we will NOT be returning for additional services & to be ripped off further. Shame on you people! Awful customer service! Read Less

I moved to Milford about a year ago from Kansas City. I tried other vets in the area before Companion but never felt comfortable with them. From the moment I met Dr. Stephanie Preli she has treated me and my pets like family. She is caring, knowledgeable, and just an overall wonderful person. I would recommend Companion to anyone! Dr.Ken gave my boy extra time, and when the time came the staff was extremely caring. Hes treated all my cats, and unlike some vets, he gives you options of what would be best for your pet and even more so gives them a chance. Couldnt be anymore grateful. Read Less

Have been taking my dog, Hunter here for years! They are so thorough and kind! Dr. Ken has been amazing! Today we met Dr. Stephanie for the first time; she got down in the floor and introduced herself to Hunter. He warmed up to her a bit (he normally hates the bet)! I've been taking my pets to see Dr. Preli since the 90's. He is a compassionate vet and pet owner. The staff at Companion are considerate of my pets needs and clearly love animals. His prices are reasonable and the care my pets receive is top notch. My dog and two cats are currently patients. When my dog Louie accidentally swallowed a rubber duck late in the afternoon, both Dr. Preli and his daughter, also a vet there, stayed late to give Louie surgery to remove the ducky from his belly before it could cause trouble in his digestive tract. Awesome doctor and staff who love animals. Love the location and the professionalism, but man they know how to scam. Every time I go they add random stuff and then my bill skyrockets. Last time they gave my dog medication for his medication's medication, he now has more meds than my grandma, no joke. 6 different scripts. To be honest, I never left Animal Hospital thinking that I got a good deal.   Owning, a Newfie is expensive and it stinks shelling out a lot of money on just a normal vet visit.  I don't think my wallet would have liked any vet.Why the 4 stars?  When I had to make the heartbreaking decision to put my big boy down, Companion Animal Hospital made a house call.   They were very calm and gentle with Brody making sure he didn't feel a thing.   Brody was literally put to sleep; he was snoring up until the moment he died.  Five days ago, I adopted a puppy.   Without hesitation, I made an appointment with Companion Animal Hospital. Gave my dogs physicals when I only wanted rabies shots and nails clipped , made that clear when I walk in , then charge me $227.00 and try to tell me it's the Law that they have physical, ITS NOT will never go back there, so wrong , communicate your policies upfront, crooks for sure, Beware !!!!!!!!! I've been going to Companion for many years, with 3 different cats. I find them to be compassionate, kind and accomodating. I have twice experienced needing to put down a cat, and this experience was by far the most compassionate and peaceful. The doctor never swayed me one way or the other, he listed all the options, costs, and was very forthcoming and empathetic. I highly recommend them, the staff is wonderful.Read Less

I've been dealing with Dr. Preli and the staff at Companion since 2007.  He is a very kind and caring vet who is wonderful with animals.  The staff know me by name when I call or go there and they are friendly and helpful, in most circumstances.  Also, Bridget, the groomer, is wonderful.  She is so caring and sweet and my current dog and previous dog were very comfortable in her presence.  She really has a way with the doggies.  The three stars are purely due to the fact that I have not walked out of there with a bill less than $150, even when the visit was supposed to be one (minor) service.  I've questioned some charges before and feel that some have been unnecessary fees.  I've learned two things: ASK a lot of questions and don't be afraid to turn down services that may not be necessary.  My dog had heartworm disease (prior to adopting him) which was recently treated successfully and I was advised that he needed a teeth cleaning (would go under anesthesia for that).  Come to find out, his heart needs a few months to recover before going under.  Glad I did my research before giving the vet the go-ahead. My Girlfriend uses the Companion Animal Hospital for her three cats and they have been really awesome. I had an experience today that have endeared them to me. There was a small animal that was trapped in a glue trap. One of my neighbors still uses barbaric trapping methods and this poor thing got stuck. I could not get it free myself and was upset. The kind people at Companion assisted me and helped with the situation. Unfortunately the poor animal did not survive, but the fact that these wonderful people helped was enough to make me want to continue using them for our pet needs.Read Less

to be fair... this was my PAST REVIEW: So in my pet owning experiences I visited 4 vet/animal hospitals. I can say so far - (5 visits to Companion) I am entirely satisfied with this place. The staff always remembers our names and are incredibly friendly. I always feel like they make the very best effort at getting us in when we need an appointment. I think the opinions I have received so far have been informative and helpful and I really don't have anything to complain about at all. Seems like whenever I visit there are lots of satisfied pet owners, this place needs some of those people to review because so far the reviews I have seen definitely do not represent the hospital. Here is my CURRENT REVIEW: After a year and a half of visiting this place, I've been told numerous times, and rudely that my dog must lose weight. Because there are many people that take care of her, this has been a huge struggle. Lately I have noticed that there seems to be a fair amount of salesmanship being practiced here, as soon or before the bill comes there seems to be a little bit of coaching to ease the stress when they hand it to you. I wish that they were more conscious about the burdens they are placing on their customers, and were not so overly aggressive in administering treatments to animals that might not need it, and in return charging and obscene amount and offering no conclusion... if this is happening to you, be weary.
