I went here to get Heartgard and nexgard for my dog with prescription and records completely available via email. I was barely greeted and was immediately told no. I explained that I indeed have a prescription from a licensed vet from home for just this reason and that I have medical records available. This man consulted with others at the desk and they stated my dog would have to be established with one of their vets with implications that the prescription and records I have directly from my vet were forged. I was treated like I was trying to scam your clinic into these preventative medications. I understand some skepticism but at least look at the documentation. It's hard enough being 1500 miles from my vet, home, support without being treated like a scammer. It's not hard to be human and kind. Read Less

I had to bring my puppy in unexpectedly after she ingested a poisonous plant.   She was extremely ill with severe vomiting and diarrhea. Even though they were very busy with appointments they saw me quickly.  Dr. King and the rest of the staff are amazing and so sweet. My pup received excellent care. Either their hours are wrong online or their staff is legitimately sending phone calls straight to voicemail up to 45 minutes before closing which is UNACCEPTABLE. This has happened to me a number of times when i called as my cat is a pt there. However, this last time my cat was exhibiting strange behavior at 530, according to the hours online they are open until 6 so I thought I would call them and try to get him seen there so since there are much closer to me than VCA shoreline who is 20 minutes minimum away without traffic. 530 is high traffic time, I'm sitting the waiting room now while he is being seen but thank goodness I hauled ass and for here in less than 20. This vet is the best I have used around the Milford area. DR Sachar is one of the best Vets I have ever dealt with. Very professional, friendly and honest as to what you pet needs and don't need. My dog has met with most of the other Vets and Technicians there and that are all awesome to deal with. The office staff is great to deal with. They know how to hire a great staff. Dr. Galloway is amazing; I was an overly anxious first-time pitbull owner when I chose Milford Animal Hospital as my veterinary clinic based on other Yelp reviews. She never judged me for being overly worried about every little thing or having a lot of questions, and she certainly never judged my dog for being a pitbull. The entire staff has always been superbly pleasant, the clinic itself is extremely clean, without an odor in the air, and I like the decor/layout of the clinic. Yesterday, 6/7/17, we had an emergent situation with our dog. Petrified, we got her in the car and drove as fast as we could to Milford Animal Hospital. We called on our way (we don't live far) and when we got there a few minutes later, they had a room and a technician waiting for us. Dr. Galloway was working alone and appeared to have a full waiting room. Never once did she or any of the staff make us feel as though we were a burden. They did not rush us along, they did not say a word about how busy they were, they just cared for our pup while reassuring us along the way. I cannot speak highly enough about this practice and the people in it. I am new to town and had yet to establish a new vet for my three kitties!! So on the day before Christmas Eve, when I came home to find one of my cats injured, I was desperate to find a vet willing to see a new patient right away- luckily after a few calls to other places, Milford Animal Hospital got me an appointment for later that day- what a relief!They were very welcoming and friendly, and I was impressed with the designated separate cat area and available blankets sprayed with Feliway- the exam room was equally impressive with a heated exam table and relaxation music playing softly...as if that weren't impressive enough, Dr King and the Vet techs were all so professional, friendly, and most importantly gentle with my very sensitive scaredy cat- Dr King and the techs were so great and helped my little boy make a full recovery with minimal stress!To have seen a new patient so last minute amidst the holiday bustle and also to provide such a calming environment for my cat was above and beyond impressive! Six star rating for this hospital for sure (if I could, lol) These veterinary professionals are very kind and compassionate! One of our cats had to have a delicate operation done on her. However, but she is very skiddish around new people. She eventually warmed up to the staff here although it did take several minutes. We actually thought about going to someone closer, but a friend referred us here instead because they had good experiences. Even though it was a farther drive for us it was definitely worth it. From the moment we walked in we w were greeted professionally and the entire process was explained to us in full detail. All of our questions were answered, and we had all the information we needed to provide proper care for our pet. When we finally brought our cat in, she was obviously very nervous about being a new surrounding. However, the technicians and the veterinary staff were all very kind and patient with her. Their expertise and their professionalism is very apparent in their daily operations. MAH is where we had Zeus's puppy visits but after moving to west haven, we switched practices for convenience. Now 2 year old Zeus developed a chronic paw issue that caused him daily discomfort that 3 other practices diagnosed as a "nervous tick". We made an appointment with Dr. Galloway who immediately checked Zeus's paws and realized he had a double infection! He had probably had it for months but all other vets seemed to laugh it off and not pay any attention to it. Following Dr. Galloway's prescribed medicinal regimine, I am so happy to report that Zeus is finally infection and pain free and doesn't even go after his paws as a habit anymore! After moving and trying several local Veterinary facilities, we always seem to make the drive through 5 towns **with a dog that gets carsick** just to make it back to our first and only hospital.The care and expertise is unrivaled (and we've looked!). You aren't hit with a smell when you walk in the door. They use language that's easy to understand. And the best part is- they won't tell you to buy something if you don't need it and they'll absolutely tell you if there is an over-the-counter option available. I cant say enough about Milford animal hospital. My dog Betty is 2 years old and has had tons of visits for everything from routine check ups, to bee stings, to leg injuries and we have never had anything other than a positive experience. Her regular vet is Dr. Sachar and we are so thankful for him, he is always so informative and caring and Betty loves him! She has also seen Dr. King who is super sweet and her love for animals really shows. Joanna the surgical coordinator, the techs, and the front desk coordinators are all so pleasant and helpful. Every vet (Dr Galloway, Dr King and Dr Moore), vet tech, and surgical coordinator we have seen here has treated our pets so compassionately, even when our Frenchie acts up during an exam ;) Dr Galloway was very knowledgable and helpful through braceophalic surgery/ recovery for our frenchie. The Veterinarians are extremely nice and helpful, and take the time to explain everything to you to make sure you understand what the problems and procedures are. They showed me how to give my cat who was diagnosed with CKD subcutaneous injections, both by the Vet herself, Dr. Galloway, and a few of the Vet Technicians when i came back for appointments and asked to be shown again. I've been using this hospital since 2003. I have 5 cats. Dr. Melissa Moore is our primary vet. I was lucky I found her. Now that I'm here, I can't imagine going anywhere else. Dr. Moore has helped us over the years with some very difficult times. The loss of our beloved Wanda. She was very sick her whole life, Dr. Moore never gave up, she never got tired. My service dog became ill and in a month's time she'd lost about 1/4 of her body weight and 60% of her hair. Her old veterinarian's office charged me a fortune and came to no conclusions as her health deteriorated. On my FIRST visit to Dr. Sachar he listened to all of my concerns, communicated with the dermatologist who'd seen her the prior week and I Knew exactly what was wrong with her and the treatment they were going to use Every day when she came in to get an injection of antibiotics, the entire office staff would greet us and the first Vet Tech she ever saw there made it a point to come out and talk to me about her progress. We have used Milford Animal Hospital for about 10 years, and have dealt primarily with Dr. Sachar, and before him, Dr. McGee.   And to a lesser extent, with Dr. Galloway.  Both Drs McGee and Sachar  have been very good in their diagnosis, and have dealt with situations with a conservative, but ultimately accurate approach.    Also, the MAH staff has accommodated our normal appointment needs in a reasonable time frame, in that they properly schedule appointments as time and convenience permit.  However, a recent end of life (EOL) situation seemed to fully upset all this fine machinery.   We requested an emergency professional opinion regarding an EOL situation for our dog, and were told by the MAH staff that they could not accommodate us in a timely manner.   The MAH staff said they were short staffed, and did not try to maybe rearrange schedules, perhaps by moving less important appointments to other time slots, in an attempt to accommodate our EOL situation.  This reaction was given after our 10 year history with the organization.    So in general, the professional advice given by the veterinarians is accurate, however the End Of Life situation was not well handled.  It is not recommended to depend on MAH to accommodate an EOL type of situation, as you will be very disappointed, in what may be a time of great need.   This is why MAH gets a 4 out of 5 rating. I am giving MAH four stars instead of five primarily to override Yelp's automated system of hiding certain reviews.  Apparently Yelp thinks that if a vendor gets all 5 star reviews - the reviews must be fake.  That is not the case with MAH.  Based on my personal experience with this practice, I can understand why everyone else is giving them 5 stars. We moved to Milford 4.5 years ago, our dog was 9 at the time.  I had adored our previous Vet in our former town and was a little apprehensive about leaving that practice to have a new veterinarian doctor care for my dog has he entered his sunset years. It was our former vet who actually recommended MAH to us b/c he knew one of the former doctors at MAH who is now retired. Going on nothing but a referral from my former vet I called MAH when we first moved to Milford.  We were assigned Dr. Sachar -just as a luck of the draw.  Admittedly, I am pretty tough to impress, but I can honestly say over the last 4.5 years, Dr. Sachar has exceeds every expectation I had for veterinary care for a senior/geriatric dog. Dr. Sachar was always very attentive to us and our dog and generous with his time during appointments. As my dog's needs increased with age, Dr. Sachar was Fantastic about being accessible over the phone whenever I called with questions.  Over the last year of my dog's life - he was on a lot of meds, a couple of his heart medications were very expensive - at one point my husband was in between jobs, the office manager and Dr. Sachar worked with us to give us a discount on our dog's medication while we weathered a tough economic time in our family.  Three weeks ago we had to bring our dog in for his last visit and set him free. Dr. Sachar extended such kindness and compassion towards us at this most difficult time for our family, I can't even imagine how he does this on a regular basis.  Happily we just adopted another dog.  We will be bringing him in for his first appointment next week.  I am so thankful that we have such an amazing veterinary doctor as Dr. Sachar to care for our new dog for many years to come.  I can not recommend Dr. Sachar and Milford Animal Hospital more highly.  The 4 stars is just to make sure Yelp does not hide this review. Milford Animal Hospital is wonderful! I have been taking my dog there since he was a puppy. They always manage to get us in for an appointment even when it is last minute. Everyone is so caring and vested in my dog's health. During a recent emergency they kept in touch with me to follow up on my dog's recovery and progress and were just as happy as I was that he was getting better. So the last few weeks have been very stressful as we have a newly diabeticcat and no vet that we trust. The vet we used up here was disappointing toput it mildly. After three weeks on his new medication there has been nochange and we are apprehensive about taking him to a totally new vet. Itell you that so I can tell you this; our former vet in Milford was alwaysso wonderful through the good, the bad and the silly. At our wit's endyesterday we called just for some guidance. He called us back this morningand talked us both off our ledge and gave us the tools we need to get thecare we need for our kitty, even though he will not be the person givingit. Dr. Sachar and everyone at Milford Animal Hospital are not onlyprofessional and excellent at what they do, but they have the "X factor"needed to do the job, compassion for both the animals and the people wholove them.
