Last week this time, we lived one of every pet owners nightmares. My 9 year old shepherd, Nevada, was not acting herself. My husband brought her into Dr. Brian late afternoon and within a few moments, Dr. Brian felt something in her belly. After Xrays, it was evident it was a mass in the area of her spleen and possibly her liver. Being extremely thorough, Dr Brian arranged for her to get an ultrasound immediately at one of the area emergency clinics, did blood work and performed an additional chest xray so that we could make an educated decision as to what we were up against. The entire time, he was very calming (even though we just wanted to sob) explaining Nevada's care plan. Within an hour, Dr Brian was reviewing the ultrasound results with the Doctor that performed the ultrasound. Dr Brian scheduled emergency surgery to remove Nevada's spleen for first thing in the morning with her little sister, Sedona donating blood for Nevada, in order to stack the deck to give her the best chance possible. My husband and I felt the most comfortable with Dr Brian performing the surgery. By 8am she was at the hospital. Within 2 hours, Dr Brian let us now that she did really good in surgery and they were able to remove the spleen intact sending a biopsy to the lab just to be sure. Huge sigh of relief. Throughout the day, Dr Brian let us know each time Nevada and Sedona made it over huddles. It was so incredibly comforting knowing what was going on as anyone who has gone through this knows the agony of watching the clock. His staff at Beacon Valley Animal Hospital are absolutely AWESOME!! While we were going through this, it was like his staff was going through it with us. They were so compassionate and empathetic. Not only that, they were so complete in their care instructions, what to expect, the meds, and they had it all printed out just to be sure. Dr Brian followed up first thing the next day to see how we made out. The staff was insistent, call if we had any questions or concerns. As soon as the biopsy results came in, AWESOME news from Dr Brian, the biopsy came back benign.
Our little girl, Nevada, would not be here right now if it werent for Dr. Brians prompt and accurate diagnosis after which he performed a life-saving operation. Dr. Brians extensive experience and knowledge especially in a crisis situation is incredible. He and his staff are so compassionate. I really do feel as though Dr. Brian treats each and every one of his clients' animals as if they were his own. We have been bringing our shepherds to Dr Brian for years. I am so thankful for Dr Brian and his staff. Even if our results were not as good, my husband and I know that our girls have the best chance possible with Dr Brian and his staff.
