Let me start this review with a warning. If you take anything from this review, take this advice: DO NOT LISTEN TO THESE PEOPLE WHEN IT COMES TO DENTAL HEALTH OF YOUR PETS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE! THEY LIE WITHOUT HESITATION, A COORDINATED DECEPTION THAT IS NOT LIMITED TO ANY SPECIFIC MEMBER OF STAFF, ALL IN AN EFFORT TO MAKE SURE THEIR PATIENTS DON'T GO TO ANOTHER VET... EVEN IF IT MIGHT PUT YOUR CAT'S HEALTH AT RISK! When it comes to toothaches in cats, this facility's staff will say that they want to extract extract extract, and before they do, they say that you will have to agree (sign a contract) to let them potentially extract ALL of your pet's teeth, justifying this with "don't worry, that's only a precaution, in case we see problems elsewhere when we put them under and take a look. most likely we will only take out a few. we make everyone sign off on the most major extraction package, but we only charge you based on how many we take out." In hindsight I would be willing to bet they'd look at my cat's mouth like a blank check and take an "extract first, ask questions later" approach. They spread this lie about extractions being all they can do as a result of their inability to offer any form of dental maintenance or service for cats outside of these extractions, that I know they charge a fortune for. The vets at this animal hospital had the audacity to swear to me that cats have no options available for cleanings anywhere in the world with current medicine and technology in the field of animal dentistry, lying and saying that no vets offer cleanings anywhere, saying "no one does cleanings for cats. you just give the cat occasional dental treats and then you have to pull any teeth that cause problems."I was lucky to learn this was a blatant lie before it was too late, a lie told all because they don't have any service in place for feline teeth cleaning at their facility. Any responsible, caring, ethical medical professional would be honest and open, explaining "we don't do that but you can find someone who does" instead of risk my cat's health all for the slight chance that I may start visiting another vet if I learn that there ARE vets who will regularly clean a cat's teeth. So for the sake of a potential loss in money, they considered that to be more important than my cat's health and comfort. I will never forgive that.Extractions and teeth aside, my cat's first 5 or 6 visits seemed fine, but that was because I chose to trust the staff here and give them the benefit of the doubt without doing any research on my own. It was also because my cat didn't have any major health problems during those visits... Unfortunately once he started having health issues, I wasted a fortune at this animal hospital only to hear lies and / or speculation. When my cat became allergic to dry food, we had to find out on our own, even after paying $1100 for tests and visits and screenings and meds. They said nothing was wrong and theorized that if we kept seeing them and did the "senior care screenings" that he'd be fine. I did some research online and found out that older cats will sometimes become allergic to dry food, and as soon as we switched to wet food only to see if it helped, he got better. This was after weeks of him throwing up though, because they didn't suggest the dry food might be a problem. and throwing up over such a long period of time started to give him tooth pain, and had we been directed to switched his food immediately, it's likely he'd have never had any problems with his teeth.I figured that vets can't be right all of the time, and decided not to point fingers when they failed to diagnose his allergy. so when my cat started having tooth problems, that's when I went through the nightmare described in my warning.thank god I'm a big talker though because when I was telling a coworker how unfortunate it is that you can't clean a cat's teeth, he quickly corrected me and pointed out numerous vets that handle routine teeth cleanings for cats. I was floored and went straight to another vet that my coworker suggested, and this vet not only confirmed that I had been lied to by the Naugatuck hospital, but he showed me that extractions are very likely unnecessary for my cat, because if he could clean the calculus off my cat's teeth, that might sort out the issue with his tooth pain symptoms. I was still worried about putting my cat under (he's older) and this vet said "I understand. look I am willing to clean them right now, while he is awake, and if it doesn't work out, we can make another plan. let's try to save his teeth to try and preserve his quality of life." and sure enough he was able to clean my cat's teeth while I held him down, and that fixed everything. all pain symptoms subsided and now my cat is doing much better all because I stopped visiting Naugatuck Vet Hospital.
