New Canaan Veterinary Hospital

New Canaan, Connecticut
General Info
The New Canaan Veterinary Hospital in New Canaan delivers beyond standard treatment by fostering clinical understanding and transparent communication which helps families manage pet wellness throughout Connecticut. The first visits start by adjusting the environment so the pet becomes familiar with sounds light and spatial arrangements. Upon entry veterinarians begin monitoring animals by recording their walking patterns alongside social interactions while noting zones of hesitation and examining both breath rhythms and touch responses. Physical assessments examine coat health hydration level gum color limb use joint sensitivity abdominal tone and muscle stability. The complete intake picture emerges through owner feedback which includes details about recent appetite changes and grooming routines as well as interaction shifts and vocalization patterns to guide next steps. New Canaan Veterinary Hospital delivers an array of structured services that encompass lab panels alongside dental procedures and surgical prep with recovery as well as age-adjusted diagnostics and preventative wellness mapping. Detailed explanations accompany each service milestone while visual progress tools support multi-visit plans. During recovery periods the team assists owners in interpreting animal body language to identify behaviors indicating readiness or resistance which simplifies home care. Behavioral benchmarks instead of calendar dates guide the mapping of follow-up visits. It is recommended that owners monitor detectable variations—such as sleep patterns, eye contact length, surface choices, and movement gradients—to add contextual information to each return check-in. This guarantees decision-making processes operate with assured stability and ongoing reliability. New Canaan Veterinary Hospital establishes a clinical partnership with pet families throughout New Canaan and wider Connecticut which focuses on knowledge patience and visibility to create an actively collaborative care experience starting from the first day.

They offered good care for my sick dog but the night I had an emergency I left a message with the on call doctor and no one ever called me back. That night I had to put my dog down at an emergency hospital. The next day I called them to let them know the dog was put down and they said the doctor would call me and they never did. I know my pet had passed away but I thought I would have gotten an on call doctor to call me back that night and his regular doctor to call me back to bring closure to the care for my sick pet. I have been taking my pets to the New Canaan Veterinary Hospital for years. Even when I moved to Greenwich I still continued to travel all the way to New Canaan because the staff and service truly couldn't be beat. Dr. Marlene Schaefler is a fantastic vet who truly goes above and beyond to help in any way that she can. She serves as a wonderful advocate for the animals, as well as their owners. She will explore all possible treatment options and explain the merits and drawbacks of each without pushing any sort of agenda. Dr. Schaefler will go out of her way to provide suggestions and solutions for pet problems and is alway willing to answer any questions you may have. I highly recommend Dr. Schaefler and her staff at the New Canaan Veterinary Hospital to any pet owner! Read Less

While the facility is clean, the people told us it would be 110 to fix our dog and then the final bill was 450. They also told us that the 2 hospital night stays were complimentary and the final bill has a hospitalization charge of 109. Surgery alone was 336, not including meds.
