I took my dehydrated vomiting cat in on a Monday. Bloodwork was inconclusive and the vet was glib and rather rude. She asked if they could keep the cat for observation. Two days later and a sizeable bill, they tell me she's good to go and send me home with some special catfood. Thursday I took her back because vomitting and odd behavior, am told she's fine. Today Sunday, my 6yr old cat is far from fine!!! Frankly she smells septic and has a loss of balance. I'm heartbroken and disgusted. ......and the follow up on my kitten...she was very sick. And her diagnosis was wrong! My cat suffered a week because this vet said she was fine. 550 dollars I paid, and had to pay nearly 200 dollars so she didn't have to suffer anymore😭😭 Read Less

Another New Milford fail (see my reviews for Scott's Nursery and Thompson's eatery).  I brought my sick kitten in several times.  The first male quack was condescending and xenophobic and misdiagnosed the kitten's condition.  I made that guy so paranoid by being an intelligent, articulate minority he seemed like he was in a defensive trance when I dealt with him.  If you're going to condescend, at least be competent.  The female vet I saw there on a subsequent visit -- at least she was easy and friendly --mindlessly gave the kitten an antibiotic that I later researched and found to be the death knell for cats.  I called the office and told that to the receptionist but that person was apathetic.  A vet at a different hospital finally made an accurate diagnosis and the cat had to be put down.  Had I gone to the other vet from the start, the cat might be alive today.  Add to the experience a crazy female assistant whose xenophobia I really triggered (despite my friendliness) and who actually gossiped about me to another assistant in the small room while I was standing there.  An animal exhibiting similar insane behavior would be put down.The staff I dealt with were incompetent and/or vile.  A perfect example of how bad service can get once you leave the professionalism and diversity of a big city, especially when you stand out from the the local population. If there were 6 stars, I would give them. Caring and compassionate, these vets are real. All of the people working there are warm and welcoming, and really are there for the best they can offer your fur baby. Highly recommend!!!!! Read Less

This veterinary hospital saved my dog's life. Nathalie had deep wounds (caused by neglect during boarding). The doctors and staff at CAH dressed her wounds daily, applied routine and novel medications (honey-based) and helped nurture her to health. And did I mention my dog is 16 years? Went here because they offered lower cost for spay/neuter for kittens I rescued. I explained that I had lost a cat previously under anesthesia and would really appreciate it if they could call me as soon as he awoke from surgery as I would be a nervous wreck. Girl at the front desk had a real attitude problem and acted like I was asking for her to give me her first born and that she couldn't be bothered. Dr. Jenny was awesome, but she is no longer at this practice and I can see why. The other male doctor couldn't care less about the patients he sees. I came here for my dogs acid reflux, and just because it wasn't apparent at that very moment, he just shrugged his shoulders and still made me pay the office visit. Terrible vet and has zero compassion. My dog also has a very hard time getting her nails clipped. I've been to every vet in town and they told me she needed to sedated in order to cut them. Karen was the only one to have the patience and expertise to cut my dogs nails, but i was told today that they can't have their vet techs cutting nails.I was advised to go to petco. My dog's case is not something petco people can do, but they refused to understand that, leaving me no options. I will most likely have to get my dog sedated to get her nails clips, HOW RIDICULOUS. We brought in our kitten reporting that she was not acting normal and sleeping too much. The vet failed to check her vital signs and blamed it on hormones. The next we called up candle wood animal hospital to report that she was very sick. They refused to see her telling us there was nothing wrong. We went to see another vet and were told she had hours to live. She died that night. Without the incompetence of Candlewood Animal Hospital our pet may have still been alive today. I'd also like to add the receptionist lied saying the vet had checked her vital signs when later the vet admitted he hadn't. Read Less

I called today per a recommendation from a person I see at the dog park in New Milford on a regular basis. Upon asking for an appointment for my pet I was treated so DISGUSTINGLY by an employee named MARY! I feel very bad that I will not be going to this animal hospital since I hear the doctors are wonderful however the staff is APPALLING and should not work in a setting where people are upset about their loved ones. I've then going to candlewood animal hospital for 15 years.i have complete trust in Dr Maizel who is the most experienced and compassionate Vet I have ever taken my pets to. His staff is absolutely wonderful, kind and caring. I can't imagine taking my pants anywhere else. Read Less

This is not tag sale related but we are a small community and it's nice to know about our community so admin if you must delete feel free but this is a good to know.....today I found. 77 yr old man who lives near me who has a very sick cat and he has no money to take her to the vet, I called every vet asking and begging for a probono which means free case to see this poor mans cat, let me remind you this man has no family, nothing he is all alone with his cat! Do you know everyone I called said " sorry"...except aspectuck Animals hosp Dr. Mike said he could see her Tuesday, thank you Dr. Mike but I couldn't wait and when passing candlewood animal hospital by big y heading north (Dr. Maizel) I pulled in and asked them if they could help me and they told me no questions asked go get the cat, they took her in treated her like a queen, gave her shots and dewormers, and said Id like to see her again in three weeks..who is better than them? It's nice to have a vet that really cares about the animals and not just the 55.00 fee that this old man could not afford! No words" that man is number 1 in my book!!Read Less

This is a wonderful practice! Drs. Maizel and Lubvosky are highly skilled,knowledgeable, compassionate practitioners whom I trust implicitly with the care of my 4 cats and three dogs over the last ten years. The entire staff from the front desk to the vet techs are kind caring people who really have a soft spot for their furry patients. I have brought my cats and dogs in for routine check ups as well as surgery, I had a dog diagnosed with cancer, I had a dog brought in critically ill who was treated most expertly by the staff. I've also had to bring my dog with cancer in at the end to be put down when he began to really suffer. I have always been impressed with the care and expertise of the staff. I've been a critical care nurse at NY Presbyterian Hospital in NYC for the past twelve years and I can honestly say these docs impress me more than many top notch "human" docs I've worked with!
