When I was living in Old Saybrook I only ever used them for my pup. They always treated her compassionately and always explained any issues that came up. I never felt I was being 'taken for a ride', as they always gave a fair price for their services. My mom still takes her 2 dogs to them and has never had a problem. These people are amazing. Everyone here goes above and beyond to care for all the animals who walk through their doors. I'm grateful to have found such an amazing staff to care for my furbabies when they need it. Would reccomend to any and everyone. And a big thank you to all who work there. Had to call last minute when my pup got into an accident and they didn't even hesitate to have us bring her in immediately. Our rescue had 10 teeth removed at Saybrook Veterinary Hospital! She also had a lump removed from her back. These surgeries were competitively priced when compared to other clinics in the area. The recovery time was short and there were no complications. Dr. Magruder, Dr. Merkent, and all of the staff were great. We€ll be taking kitty here for his next check-up. Read Less

I happened to have stumbled on this place after my 20lbs dog suffered a dog bite. I was pleasantly surprised to see how friendly the staff were (including their furry crew), how courteous Dr. Magruder was, and how less expensive it was to treat my poor baby. Another place quoted me at $350 whereas this office was $109. I noted how caring Dr. Magruder was to my pet and how she answered all of my questions with no judgements whatsoever. I appreciate that very much. I also liked how this office, like many others in the area, is opened half days on Saturdays. My visit was wonderful and I will be returning. Read Less

I entrusted my dear sweet pet to Dr. Magruder (then Dr. Alvarez) for a teeth cleaning. She called to let me know which tooth needed to be removed. I gave the ok. She called back 1/2 hour later to tell me that Laurie was dead. I got Laurie's cremains back in a box. I wrote to Dr. Magruder a number of times seeking help in dealing with my grief and hoping for closure. My letters went ignored. I thought other pet owners should know.Read Less

If I could give Dr. Magruder and her staff 10 stars it still wouldn't be enough. My 9 year old golden ate a sock and Dr. Magruder performed the surgery. While she was removing the sock she noticed a large mass on his spleen and immediately phoned me to explain what she was looking at. She removed his spleen with my permission and kept him overnight. In the following 4 days, she and her staff allowed me and my family to come into the office daily to spend time with our boy while he recovered. She even took him home with her at night to ensure that he was always monitored. Unfortunately my boy couldn't recover despite all our of best efforts and we had to let him go to the rainbow bridge. Now our second time there with outrageous billing and leaving feeling as though we did something "wrong" or are bad animal owners because of a cold or something else out of our control.  Never going back, customer service was chalice and my wife left crying...with a $180 bill for antibiotics.  Glad they got the cat in, but their customer service of FEAR to pet owners is unwarranted.  Express concern, fine.  make people FEAR everything so they can do this, that and the other @ $100 a minute...bad business.  I do NOT recommend and will not be going back.  Looking for a new vet in the CT shoreline, so any advice--please let me know.
