Since I moved to the area with two dogs several years ago, I have been to see Ragged Mountain and Dr. Kimm numerous times.  The office is very clean and the staff are wonderful.  I showed up one morning when they opened, without an appointment, because one of my dogs began having a serious and life-threatening issue.  They took my Luna in right away and told me to go home and they would keep me posted.  They determined that emergency surgery was necessary and they called me multiple times throughout the day, keeping me apprised every step of the way.  You may find that you might have to wait a bit past your appointment time, but they spend such quality time with each animal that when your turn comes, you'll be grateful that they do. Being a Veterinary Nutse for iver 20 years I have worked with a lot of veterinarians including Dr. Kimm many many years ago. He is still a very caring veterinarian who doesn't seem to have the burnout many veterinary doctors seem to get. He still seems extremely passionate about the field and expanding his knowledge. Dr Kim was nice but he charged me 600 dollars for testing that cost me 200 the day before at my regular vet . I had to wait literally an hour to see him with a very angry kitty. I called twice in the following  week to get the results and nobody returned my call. I went and picked up the test results and will read them myself with the help of google. I went to this veterinary hospital for a low-income spay/neuter clinic they were doing, so I had no prior experience with this vet. I'll preface this review by saying that I used to work as a vet tech in an animal shelter so we did a lot of low-income spays and I've worked them behind the scenes. Some are great. Others are very rushed with some unsettling though harmless protocols. I love my kitten so I was wary, but when you're low-income you don't have many options. What I saw was completely different than I expected. Very clean and professional, kind staff who obviously care about the animals, and I have some experience looking at surgical incisions and can recognize a rushed or sub par job, her's is clean, neat, and shows skill on the part of the veterinarian. So this vet spayed my cat under the assumption that she would likely not return to his office (though I certainly think I'll be switching now!), without having seen me personally, and not expecting me to have any knowledge of veterinary medicine. He could have done a crap job; safely assuming I wouldn't know the difference anyway and he didn't. The care, compassion, and skill are evident and knowing they treat animals so well when the owner isn't looking says more than any review could. Read Less

Dr Kim is nice and very knowledgable but $470 to put my golden retriever down is ludacris especially since the lady Katie at the desk told us that a typical euthanasia is $150 , she tells me that larger dogs are more $ . What justifies a jump in price from say a 50lb dog to a 100lb dog besides a little more effort lifting him up. It's bad enough we had to put my buddy to sleep but to feel robbed after is icing on the cake. Read Less

Dr. Kimm is great-- he was able to diagnose a skin allergy on my dog when no one else could, helped me find the trigger and we resolved it after months of pain and agony on my pet.  When I suspected that my dog was having seizures as a result of the rabies/distemper vaccine, they never pressured me to vaccinate, and he hasn't had a seizure since.  This is a vet who cares and puts their client's needs first. However... I feel they overcharged me on a recent visit, and in the last six months between two dogs, my visits have exceeded $1,000-- my dogs are relatively healthy and I wonder if some of these tests and services were really needed or not.  For example, when my dog was having intermittent paw pain, Dr. Shapiro recommended an x-ray even though he wasn't showing any signs of distress when applying pressure.  I did; came out fine.  Then she wanted us to do blood work, a lyme test, and several other tests which I opted not to do.  A few days later he was fine, probably just stepped on something and stubbed his paw.  I didn't really appreciate the guilt she put me through for not doing the additional tests. I was taking my dog in as a precaution, and I just didn't see the need in spending hundreds of dollars on something that only seemed to bother him a little bit.  If he was yelping and clearly in constant pain, I would have spent the money and felt justified in doing so.  I'm so glad I followed my instincts!!The facility is not clean-- it smells of urine when you walk in.  However, they work with animals, you can choose to overlook it; which I have because of the service I've received in the past.  Animals get nervous, they spray, and it's a busy office.  I get it.  There's also a wait almost every time I go in.  It once exceeded two hours.  But, they had an emergency to deal with and again, if that was my animal, I would want immediate attention as well.  You have to put it in perspective and a lot of these negative things can be easy to overlook.  However, due to the expensive nature of this office, I am considering a switch.  I can't afford the constant up-charges every time I walk in.  We are a family on a budget-- we haven't even spent this much on our own healthcare this year! Toby Kim has to be the BEST vet in the state. I have been through quite a few vets the past couple of years and when someone told me about Ragged Mountain and how caring everyone was there, I decided to bring my cat there and wow! I really like Dr. Kimm's practice. He is a very kind and compassionate man, but I have to say, It cost me almost $1000 dollars for two visits for the same problem within 6 months for just one of my pets. The first time I saw him it cost around $300,  the second time I saw Dr. Shapiro, also very kind and knowledgeable, but the cost of the second visit doubled to over $645. I worry about the future of my animals and affording care for them since I am retired and have a fixed income. Read Less

Dr. Kimm is an amazing vet. Very honest, very thorough. The waits can suck, but the pricing is reasonable and the level of care is top notch. The vet techs care, if you call and need help but it isn't a vet emergency, they are happy to give you advice and will absolutely get you in no questions asked if its needed. I highly recommend Ragged Mountain, as do my all of my furred (and non furred for that matter) family members! Read Less

I would never take her to any other vet. Dr. Kimm is AMAZING as is the entire staff! They have shown me and my dog nothing but patience and kindness since she went blind and through all her other issues. The advice & assistance they have provided me with has been invaluable. Their prices are great, they are honest and caring and you know from the minute you meet them that these are people who are in it strictly for their love of animals. Dr. Kim is a nice vet. I've used the services here twice. I was shocked when Dr. Kim didn't try to sell me products that he carried. Many vets will try to make you buy 101 products before the visit is over. Instead Dr. Kim wrote the name of the product down for me and said I can check prices online and get it there or at the office.My dog had blood-work done here and the staff called me with results the next business day. I would use their services again because there was no pressure to buy any services or products. Read Less

It takes time to give the best care, to listen, to test, and to observe. We know that the time we spend waiting in the waiting room for the patients that are before us is because those patients are getting the same time and care we want for our family. Often an emergency (and we've certainly had those) causes everyone to drop everything and attend to a very sick or dying animal--that takes lots of time and throws appointments off, a ""simple"" surgery turns into an ""involved"" one and schedules go out the window. We've seen techs come and go and gotten to know many of them personally and they all have one thing in common, they care! Dr Toby Kimm is one of the nicest Vets I've ever met. The first contact I ever had with his clinic was with the passing of one of my dogs. My daughter had mentioned that she heard about a clinic that was a little bit different from the rest. Well, I called them and requested a cremation for my dog and the next day I received a flowers and a card of sorrow from them. It overwhelmed me that people that I had never dealt with before cared so much!! I have since been bringing all my pets to Dr.Kimm and am very pleased with everything. Everyone that I have talked to in the waiting has the same feeling.....this Vet is GOOD! You won't see him in a white coat with a clipboard.....you'll probably see him in slacks or jeans and a casual shirt, running around like crazy, but mark my words....He CARES!! Read Less
