1st time there today. My wife brought 1 of our cats 2 weeks ago. Alba the receptionist, started in on me the minute I walked through the door. I told her my name and our pets name and she wouldn't accept me bringing our pet because mywife didnt put me on the account"!!??? Even after offering my license, she said no and that she needed to talk to her by phone so I had to get my wife on the phone and Alba says to my wife "some man is here .that you need to confirm". Can you believe this??? The girl I called could have been anybody! It didn't stop there! Then she starts with being nasty to me asking me 3x if somebody called me. Then she asked if I had called from the car??? That wasn't enough. I was brought into the evaluation room with my cat in his pet taxi. Alba then comes in to the room, opens the door and says you need to put the cat on the floor and you need to move your car. She says your car out front can get a ticket or hit. I said don't worry about my cat, he's secure and I'm ok with the car. Noooo that's not enough for thos middle-aged control freak. She then comes back to the room, opens the door again and starts yelling at me to move the xar! I asked her if she was the parking police? She left in a huff and can you believe this!!!???? She then calls the cops on me!!! The cop agreed she called and even though my appt was done, I had to move my car to avoid the ticket that Alba wanted me to get! We spent over $500 on 1 pet in 2 weeks. Although the Vet and the Vet asst were absolutely great, we will NEVER return to this place until Alba and Nicole who defended her are fired! The Vet Dr Diva and the Vet asst Margarita get 5 stars but you'll never get to see them with these 2 assholes you have to deal with 1st when you walk in! One last thing. My car was not blocking any entrances or sidewalks.

Very rude Dr. Over priced by a lot....Wanted to muzzle my dog just because she is a pitbull mix. The staff were very pushy and even after i gave the consent to use a soft muzzle the staff then wanted to use a cage over it.. They are very rude, uncomforting, very snippy. The doctore here was the worst ive ever seen. She should not be a veterinarian. She came in the room and didnt greet my dog at all and made her get muzzled before even introducing herself in the room. I can see if my pet was vicious and growling uncontrollably but my dog was in so much pain she was lathargic and them staff and doctor just did not care. We walked out and went to VCA west hartford. Old canal is also very expensive. Many places had lower prices than them and much better atmospheres. We will never bring any animal there ever again. The doctor should find a new occupation for sure.

The reason I’m giving a three out of 5 is because most of the staff was great with my cat. They were very helpfully and supportive of the needs of my cat and trying to find solutions to her behavioral problems.
The problem I have with them is the communication skills they lack. The office was trying to make me pay for another set of vaccinations that I already had paid for and wasn’t completed correctly because they did not tell me they couldn’t do it at the appointment I purposely made for the booster. So now I paid for something that never was conpleted and was told I would need to pay again, even though I followed through on my behalf, and they never told me they couldn’t do it and when I called questioning why I was receiving reminders that was what I was told.

We have been with Old Canal for years for all our two dogs and our cat. They have been really good with us, and they are very considerate and sympathetic when ours eventually got sick and passed. Just picked up our cat's memorial clay paw print today and they still were very sincere and showed sympathy. I have no real complaints and I recommend them, and will definitely go back when I have pets in the future.

The staff are really nice. First time there I waited almost an entire hour just to get in a room, so my kitten was in a box the entire time. I do understand this part because many people were there putting their animals down that day.
I had brought a stool sample, they lost it and never processed it. Probably because they were so busy.
The REAL kicker, the vet gave me some generic kitten advice and actually recommended declawing my kitten in the future "depending on what kind of furniture I have".
I couldn't run out of there fast enough with my little girl.

We began using Old Canal when we adopted a boxer back in 2002. We decided to use Old Canal as they had been seeing the 2yr old boxer since she was 8 weeks old. Eleven years later, we are still very satisfied patients of Old Canal. Dr. Hexter and his staff are amazing. They have seen us through good and bad times with our dogs, always with kindness and compassion to both us and the dogs. They have been with us as we said goodbye to our beloved boxer at the age of 12 in 2012 and when we had to make the hard decisions for our other boxer earlier this year. There is a lot of support and zero judgement found at Old Canal. And there just wasn't anywhere else we even thought of going when we welcomed new adopted mastiffs to our family.

If I could do 0 stars I would. Dr. Fahey was very rude and condescending. She told me if my dog didn't get spayed within a day or two she'd die. The infection just started so she has time in real life...
If I could do 0 stars I would. Dr. Fahey was very rude and condescending. She told me if my dog didn't get spayed within a day or two she'd die. The infection just started so she has time in real life, but according to her she didn't. She told me if I could not afford this $1200+ procedure to give her up. I'm 19, how will I just make that money appear? I will certainly find a new veterinarian.

Very rude Dr. Over priced by a lot....Wanted to muzzle my dog just because she is a pitbull mix. The staff were very pushy and even after i gave the consent to use a soft muzzle the staff then wanted to use a cage over it.. They are very rude, uncomforting, very snippy. The doctore here was the worst ive ever seen. She should not be a veterinarian. She came in the room and didnt greet my dog at all and made her get muzzled before even introducing herself in the room. I can see if my pet was vicious and growling uncontrollably but my dog was in so much pain she was lathargic and them staff and doctor just did not care. We walked out and went to VCA west hartford. Old canal is also very expensive. Many places had lower prices than them and much better atmospheres. We will never bring any animal there ever again. The reason I’m giving a three out of 5 is because most of the staff was great with my cat. They were very helpfully and supportive of the needs of my cat and trying to find solutions to her behavioral problems.
The problem I have with them is the communication skills they lack. We have been with Old Canal for years for all our two dogs and our cat. They have been really good with us, and they are very considerate and sympathetic when ours eventually got sick and passed. We began using Old Canal when we adopted a boxer back in 2002. We decided to use Old Canal as they had been seeing the 2yr old boxer since she was 8 weeks old. Eleven years later, we are still very satisfied patients of Old Canal. Dr. Hexter and his staff are amazing. They have seen us through good and bad times with our dogs, always with kindness and compassion to both us and the dogs. They have been with us as we said goodbye to our beloved boxer at the age of 12 in 2012 and when we had to make the hard decisions for our other boxer earlier this year. There is a lot of support and zero judgement found at Old Canal. And there just wasn't anywhere else we even thought of going when we welcomed new adopted mastiffs to our family.

If I could do 0 stars I would. Dr. Fahey was very rude and condescending. She told me if my dog didn't get spayed within a day or two she'd die. The infection just started so she has time in real life...
If I could do 0 stars I would. Dr. Fahey was very rude and condescending. She told me if my dog didn't get spayed within a day or two she'd die. The infection just started so she has time in real life, but according to her she didn't. She told me if I could not afford this $1200+ procedure to give her up. I'm 19, how will I just make that money appear? I will certainly find a new veterinarian.
