We recently moved and came in to the Pomfret Small Animal Clinic for the first time. The office staff is fantastic, but we will not be going back due to the veterinarian herself. My pet is a sadly undersocialized rescue dog who we adopted about 6 months ago and we've done a lot of behavior training and careful work to help her overcome her anxiety around new people (a work in progress). All the clinic staff were great to be patient and understanding of her skittish reaction. However, Dr. Norris was very brash, physical with my dog, and made no effort to check with me about how my dog might react to her handling. Dr. Norris spoke only to my dog and ignored my presence in the room, not giving me the opportunity to let her know what my dog would or would not respond well to. (She was the only person in the office that my dog barked at.) Met Dr Norris today with our 3 YO Doberman Duke. After a costly misdiagnosis at Putnam Animal Hospital it was a pleasure to find someone so knowledgeable and caring. She sat with us for 40 minutes and just talked about Duke's condition (cardiomyopathy) and what to expect. I'm looking forward to her meeting our other Dobe, Nova. Read Less

I like this place because it's close to home !! My cat hates long car rides. Especially to the vet. It's like they know where you are taking them. Animals are so super smart!!! If your an animal lover like me, you know how stressful it is seeing your pet in pain.. But here they gave my kitty a "calming blanket" as I like to call it so she was (as docile as possible) when she got her shots. Also, one night I had a scare and my cat Waddles was very sick from eating something outside. She was foaming at the mouth and I freaked out. I called, and the vet talked me through it and made me feel a million times better. You might think, "well that's their job," but no. This call was late at night !!! I brought my guinea pig to Pomfret small animal clinic yesterday and it was the worst thing I did! I had high hopes the staff seemed nice a caring. My guinea pig was not eating well but otherwise fine so I brought him in to be safe. Before his appointment he was in no pain and completely happy besides the not eating part. The doctor was rough when handling him. And showed little care. Right after she was done he kept doing this repetitive squeal that I have never heard him do. I asked the doctor why he seemed so uncomfortable and squeaking so much. She chalked it up to "guinea pigs like to talk while here." Again I brought up his constant squeaking. And her response was " I can tell you are naturally worrisome he just has a lot to say." During checkout I told the receptionist about him non stop squeaking several times and also brought up the fact that his stomach felt extremely hard and it wasn't like that before. She assured me everything was fine. I left and went to petco to get him the yogurt drops the Dr told me to get and headed home. Linny just didn't seem right he was squeaking non stop, hunched over, and was breathing fast. He seemed so painful. I called back Pomfret small animal clinic and after being put in a lengthy hold was told to bring him back. By that point Linny was screaming in pain and biting himself. This all happened in about an hr. I rushed him in the car and started to drive. I knew we wouldn't make it tge 25 minutes back to Pomfret in time so we went to a closer vet. The vet did an xray immediately and found out that Linny had a sudden twist of his gut and needed emergency treatment asap. She told me that he probably got scared at his appointment earlier and when guinea pigs get scared they suck up air. The added air in the gut adds weight and flips the stomach causing immediately pain! She sedated Linny and successfully turned his stomach. Despite the quick treatment and care Linny passed away a couple of hrs later at putnam animal hospital. The constant squeaking and hard stomach at Pomfret small animal wasn't him "just talking" like the doctor said it was him trying to tell us something was wrong! I am every bit of positive that my guinea pig died the way he did because of the Dr's ignorance. I hold her completely responsible for the death of our furry friend. She was rough, he got scared and sucked up air. Immediately after she was done with the exam he was trying to tell us something was wrong buy squeaking the way he was. I knew something was wrong and stated so several times to just be brushed off. I left because I thought she is the doctor, she knows better than me. I will not forgive myself for taking Linny to see her as it caused his death. Lastly when I called to let them know Linny had passed the receptionist responded with "o I will note that for the Dr." She showed no compassion for what we just went through at all.Read Less

I bring my 2 small dogs here for their yearly shots and exam. Doc treats my dogs with respect and they in turn respect her. One of my dogs is difficult to deal with but Doc understands how to deal with her and I totally trust her expertise. She speaks their "language". I will continue to use this clinic. In fact, my cat is due for his shot so I will be back very soon! Read Less

Absolutely terrible service. This lady was mean and handled my 8 pound chihuahua with no care. She gave him his shot in the ribs about 3 years ago and to this day he still a gaping imperfection on his ribs from it. I would highly recommend anyone that cares for their animals to go to almost any other vet. These people should not be in business. Plus when you go in there's about 6 cats running lose so you know it smells great and if you're allergic it makes it that much more enjoyable! Read Less

I like this place, the vetenarian has helped me and my kitties out so much  I cant even express. I have literally moved like five times and each time I will travel to see her. My cats like her, which doesnt say much about one cat because he likes everyone but my other cat hates everyone so that does say a lot. Read Less

I used to take my cat here. They were always professional and the clinic was always clean. Everyone at the desks was friendly and I found the prices to be very reasonable.It was a little bit of a drive from where I live, though.And the vet was.... let's just say, somewhat eccentric. I go to a different vet now. If you are thinking about bring Fido or Fluffy in for that annual fest of animal gaiety that is Vaccination Time, then have no fear. It's a small clinic, but they run a tight ship and they'll take good care of your pets. Read Less
