Catzablanca staff are amazing!  After a terrible experience with my previous vet, they made sure to get my cat seen quickly and put on her a wellness plan.  My cat was literally on the verge of not making it, and Dr. DuPont and the team have helped prolong the life of my sweet cat.  I love that this is a cat only clinic.  Overall, it reduces stress my cat experiences with vet visits.  They are always willing to check with you about the pricing and services and I have found them to be far more affordable than my previous vet, with better service! I cannot recommend them enough. Read Less

Absolutely no stars. Two years after leaving them I am writing this review. It makes me sick that I subjected my two cats to their care for the better part of 10 years. Today they went for the second time to their new vet for their annual checkup and again were so much more relaxed. Interesting that my new vet gave them both their distemper and rabies last year and they are not due again for yet another two years. The vet even feels at their age of 13 that they should not have another distemper as they have had them all their lives. Catzablanca gave my cats shots every year! They never offered the 3-year option. They also always told me that one of my cats had seasonally allergies and would dig deep into to her ear (causing discomfort) to show me what was in it. They would treat the "infection" and have me come back. My new vet has checked her ears twice these past two years and does not have the same conclusion Catzablanca had. The last time I went, they extracted or tried to extract urine from my other cat (I could hear her crying) because they said she had a urinary infection. I showed the results to the new vet and she said it was not likely as the results were on the borderline. I do not know what Catzablanca's philosophy is, but what I do know is that they did NOT have the best interests of my cat's in mind. I went there thinking they must be great as they specialize in cats and came away with a very cautious and guarded feeling about them. When I called to have my records transferred, they told me there would be a cost of like 5-10 cents a page. I told them that was ridiculous and as my cats I had a right to their records. They then said they would send them via fax/email. I question how much they left out. Little did they know that I kept all of their checkup slips over the years and even the cat they said had horrible decay on her teeth does not. I would not subject any cat of mine ever again to these folks. I am saddened that I was duped for almost a decade by them. Read Less

Office staff and technicians are wonderful. Doctor was cold and I felt railroaded into spending much more money than I told her I could afford.  Furthermore, doing invasive tests on a cat that was part of our family and was suffering. Very unprofessional.  In retrospect I should have taken my kitty and ran out of that door, before I paid a couple of hundred dollars to them.Again, office staff and techs were more than competent and very caring. I've never had a worse experience with a doctor in my life. Read Less

I highly recommend this clinic if you have a cat. I am so surprised about some of the negative comments I have read. Dr. Du Pont  is the most caring and dedicated vet I have used. She treats your cat as if it was her own. She spends time explaining everything and giving you options. You never feel rushed when you are there. I have had cats all my life and she was the only one to suggest that my kittens be tested for cat scratch fever. A disease that impacts cats and can impact people too, My cats came back positive and were treated. It is very common but no one ever tested my cats before. She tries different things to correct the problem. A couple of our cats got an extra year of life due to her dedicated treatment and monitoring. The vet tech are wonderful. Loving and caring too. They come in to see the cats even if they are not assigned to them. The front office staff is dedicated, friendly and caring as well. When I kept my cats there a few time when I went away I got daily reports on them when I called and knew they were well cared for. One time a few years ago I had an emergency the end of the day and they told me to come right in. I got stuck on 91 due to an accident and was there for an hour. They waited for me to get there and took care of my cat. I would not trust anyone else with my cats except Dr. DuPont and her staff. I have never had any of the negative experiences stated in some of these reviews. Read Less

Today was one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a vet. When I was a seventeen year old kid, I was on track to be a high school dropout living with friends without purpose or direction until a tiny kitten came into my life who I named Francois. I bottle fed and cared for him from the day he was born. The one thing that gave me focus and purpose was my kitten. I fought like hell to get us both out of a house that was flea infested and filthy. I laid him in my lap every day and cried picking fleas off of him and promising him a better life for both of us. When my father and step-mother tracked me down they told me I was moving in with them and finishing high school. I agreed under one condition, the cat was coming with me. They disagreed and I refused to budge. We compromised, the cat could stay if I got a job and financially supported him. I did. My parents quickly fell in love with Francois and gave him the nickname Frankie. They loved him to the extent that when I moved out on my own five years later they begged to keep him. Frankie ate good cat food and had daily cat nip. He had the run of the house and my loving parents under his paw. As he aged we saw the normal signs of gradual decline in cats. But within recent months we noticed a sharp decline. Frankie was clearly confused and disoriented. He started falling and having accidents every day. My parents “baby proofed” the house. But one evening after returning home from a holiday event they were horrified to find Frankie tangled in a plastic bag that had fallen out of a cabinet while they were gone. We decided as a family that Frankie, sixteen years old, had lived a good life and it was the responsible thing to do to say goodbye in a humane way with a dignified and peaceful send off. I explained this all to Dr. Andersen. She assessed that Frankie was blind and could have “high blood pressure”. She said we needed to do blood work and there could be options so he could “live to twenty.” I explained that the main concern was Frankie’s quality of life and since my parents work full time the cat was largely alone during the day and confused. We didn’t want to come home and find him injured or worse dead. Even while explaining this to Dr. Andersen Frankie managed to wedge himself in the bottom of the chair in the office and got stuck. I explained that my parents are also on a very limited budget and we didn’t want Frankie to continue to suffer especially if we couldn’t afford further treatment. It’s not like he was 8 years old, he’s 16! He lived a long and happy life. I found myself having to argue with Dr. Andersen. Finally she said to me “Well, I hope if I go blind my family doesn’t decide to put me down!” I explained to Dr. Andersen that she was a human being and could better communicate with humans about her condition than a cat could. She treated me as if I wanted to just kill my cat because he was an inconvenience. I burst into tears and she dismissed me saying that fine, we could just put him down then. I completely lost it. This was a very heart wrenching decision to make as a family and I have been committed to providing this cat a good life from the moment he was born. I’m so appalled and gutted by the way Dr. Andersen treated me in this very vulnerable moment. The vet tech came in and apologized. The manager came in and apologized and Dr. Dupont came in and performed the euthanasia. But in our last moments together I sobbed and felt so heartbroken that we were treated that way. I didn’t have the sense of comfort and peace sending Frankie off that I had with other pets at other vets I wasn’t able to be fully present with him and give him the dignity and attention he so deserved. I am horrified at Dr. Andersen’s behavior and personally believe that she should be fired. I will never recommend this vet as long as she works there. Read Less

The short version: competent, organized, friendly, patient, understanding, gentle, and obviously have you and your cat's best interests in mind. Oh, and worth mentioning because even though we would do ANYTHING for our pets we all have a budget: affordable. The long version: I finally got fed up with my own vet and went looking for a second opinion on something. My mind immediately went to that obnoxious commercial on the radio - you know, the one narrated in the nasally voice of Larry. Well, call it effective marketing, if nothing else! Here's my experience: First contact: I called and immediately a warm voice answered. I wasn't expecting that, so it took me a minute to recover and put my words together to explain my situation. And of course because my cat's health was on the line, I was getting emotional. The tech I spoke with was not only incredibly friendly and patient on the phone, but she asked me relevant questions, answered all my questions (even when I nervously asked them twice because I forgot), and offered to call my current vet to get my cat's file from them. I felt good about our conversation, so I agreed to let Catzablanca contact my [now old] vet and I set an appointment. The appointment: I brought my cat in, which is no small feat. She is about 80% hellbeast and 20% adorable princess just acting cute because she's goading you into a false sense of security before she strikes, which could happen at any time, there's no warning. Inside the exam room there's a floor to ceiling cat tree, toys, a bench for humans to sit on, and the usual vet setup: counter, sink, etc. Everything was super clean and in order - but it didn't have that foreboding /sterile/ feel to it, like the dark cloud that sits near the ceiling of most vet offices. A tech talked with me, we discussed my concerns, why I was unhappy with my current vet, and then the vet came in. She examined my cat - and no one so much as batted an eye when the cat swiped at them. They very calmly put on some gloves and continued about their business. My old vet jumped away from the cat when she so much as hissed and refused to touch her because of her temperament. Catzablanca just carried on with their job. We reviewed the last vet's test results together, and the vet patiently went through each line item, explaining to me what each test was for, what the results of each test meant, and how those results played into the plan of action for my cat. I was there for an hour and a half - ONLY because I was a wreck and asked far too many questions and refused a blood pressure test and then after packing up agreeing to the test and having to set back up in the exam room again. And you know what? The entire time I was there, I NEVER once felt rushed by anyone at Catzablanca. The treatment: my 17 year old cat needed teeth extracted. My old vet told me to drop her off in the morning, go to work, and pick her up that same afternoon. He also cautioned me far too many times about the very real risk of my cat not waking up from the anesthesia. Hence my neurotic behavior in our first appointment with Catzablanca. Catzablanca had a different approach. They would keep her a night before and a night after the procedure, give her IV fluids, monitor her for fever and infection, feed her, keep her calm, and do all of this for over $500 less than my old vet. And the kicker: I could visit any time I wanted! And I did. And they never once judged me for it. The office: everyone there is incredibly friendly, I honestly wanted to hug them all when I picked up my cat (but I refrained!). They have everything you could possibly need for sale right there in the lobby, and cheaper than you'd find online at Chewy (trust, I looked). Also they're not even 5 minutes off 91. If you've made it to the end of this review, bravo! I know it's long-winded, but if you're reading online reviews in their entirety, you probably want all the info you can get, so I hope this helped. I honestly am so happy with Catzablanca. They put me at ease about my cat's situation and took tremendous care of her. Read Less

DO NOT GO TO THIS VET!While the technicians were kind, both veterinarians were rude and condescending. It was obvious they were "upselling", trying to add tests and procedures to  drive up the cost of the visit. They told me they needed to "admit" my cat overnight. I asked why. "For nursing care". Guess what? I'm a nurse! I asked what specific care would be delivered and who would deliver it overnight. None. And, no one. Because, they have NO. ONE. THERE. OVERNIGHT. So, the cats sit in small cages, alone, overnight, stressed out. I said I'd take my cat home overnight and bring her back. They then ridiculed me for "having a hard time" with leaving my cat overnight. I ended up spending $900; and my cat caught a horrendous eye infection. Read Less

Uses high pressure tactics to take advantage of grieving pet owners. We went there for a second opinion about an elderly cat who's health had recently taken a turn for the worse. They said the cat would likely die with in the next few hours, and it would be inhumane to not euthanize it. Now if the cat was convulsing or having seizures or something like that I might have agreed but it wasn't. It was simply laying there peacefully. After already paying $100 for the visit, they bullied my fiance (who's cat it was and had the final say) into euthanizing it even though we said we wanted to bring the cat home. They said it would be another $100, I was against it but didn't want to make a scene, we went to pay and, oops, turns out it will be another $165, not $100 they refused to honor their first quote I argued about it but they just had to have that extra $65. It made a sad day much worse and now whenever I think of our departed friend I will be reminded how they took advantage of us. I hope this review costs them much more than $165. Read Less

I said them few times that I don't have a car license so it's a little trouble to get there, but my friend took me there. So we came there and gps are saying that we are in right place. But you can't see nothing. So we are loosing time too to find the Catzablanca too. Finally I'm coming inside, they are two people there. I'm saying to the women, that I had a big problem with GPS, that was showing me a different place and she's saying " oh well, we move in the new place I don't know why they didn't change address. Another women is coming and saying that maybe we will need to make another schedule for me and my cat. So I'm trying to talk to her that's a really big problem for me, and my cat need to see veterinary plus I have to be at work at 6. Then she's leaving me, talking with her menagerie. When she came she said that she cannot make it today. She didn't even ask a people a front of me in the line that maybe they wanna help me. I know that it's mostly my fault but it's was really not nice. With any emphatic for my and for my cat who was suffering. Please read this before you bring your pet to this place ! I brought my cat in for not eating for over 5 days. They said from her x Ray she needs surgery for internal issues . I paid $4000 for blood work, surgery, and 3 day stay. After surgery they told me my cat won't make it because they think she has kidney issues. I  told them that the blood work should have shown that prior to the surgery. I found out they never did the blood work and if they did we would have known that she had kidney issues. They skipped a procedure I not only paid for but that was mandatory. Not only is my baby cat dead :( but she was put under the knife when she didn't have to. I have lost not only my cat by my best friend . The animal and human bond is very special. I went there yesterday to have my cats matted hair shaved off. I had to leave her there and after I left, they do a "medical" exam. They said my cat was breathing heavy and had a fast heart rate. (her breathing is never like that at home) They let her sit awhile longer and she was still like that. They were really concerned that she sounded funny when they listened to her lungs. I agreed to an x-ray to which they said she had fluid in her lungs and that may mean heart problems. They wanted to board her for 2 nights until their ultrasound guy got there. I refused to board her and they gave her a lasix shot to get rid of the fluid and gave me pills to take home. Prior to getting her, I called my regular vet. This place wanted to charge me over $400 for an ultrasound. My vet only charged $256. This place said they must have a machine on site to charge less. Guess what, they don't!! So, I did not give my cat the Lasix until after I saw my regular vet. They sent the x-rays over and the vet said there was NO sign of fluid in her lungs. They said they were not the right color on the x-ray, but that could be asthma. NO FLUID!!!!!!!! They wanted to charge me for 2 nights boarding and an over priced ultrasound. WHY??!! How can you lie to people, harm their animals and be o.k. just stealing their money from them. My regular vet is more than 30 minutes from my house since I moved, but even if they were an hour, I would still go there instead of this place any day!!! Read Less

To All of the Dedicated staff of Catzablanca Cat Clinic, Thank you all for taking such good care of me during my visit last week. I was a little scared (sorry i peed in the carrier, im not a world traveller it seems. & Dont worry, I peed in it AGAIN on the trip home just for my human! ha!) Ive never spent any extended time away from my human since I was a itty bitty baby & found my furr-ever home. To be honest, the human was in worse shape then me! Thanks for the head scratches & the kindness you showed me, now I must run like a crazy cat to a distant other room,...just cuz Im feeling all better, and I can. Emma Jean Thank You Catzablanca Cat Clinic (& an especially big "head bonk" to Dr. Robb who was thorough, attentive and cautious when dealing with the situation that arose with my cat during her spay.) He went out of his way, including consulting with a cat blood specialist when there was some concern about my cat being a hemophiliac, or something similiar. In the end they were able to do Emma Jeans spay, and it was a good thing, there was already some changes/issues in her uterus. It woulda been easy on tuesday to say "never mind" the spay ...but it would have been detrimental at some point in the future. Dr. Robb didnt give up, made sure it was safe for Emma to be spayed, and then did a fantastic job with the spay itself. The incision looks the best ive ever seen. I would be priviliged to take my cats back there, for all 9 lives. Yours Truly, Tonya BaileyRead Less

I have been going to Catzablanca for over three years now.  Prior to that I was going to a Cat/Dog vet and my cat was miserable.  My cat is fairly difficult and I have to say that Catzablanca has been wonderful.  My cat is 11 and has a few issues over the years and the doctors have been patient and understanding.  As for the office technicians and girls up at the front desk, I can not say enough!  They have been pleasant, courteous and extremely understanding when I was stressed out about my cat not feeling well.  I would never take my cat anywhere else. We're very happy with Catzablanca. Nemo had Dr. Braun as his vet and it's always been a good experience. A few years ago, Nemo had some teeth removed at Catzablanca. Now he's able to eat without pain and has become much healthier. We recently moved and the nice thing is that Catzablanca keeps records for several years, so if we feel we should bring Nemo for something beyond regular check-ups, they're still there for him. Reviewing Catzablanca based on boarding / kenneling.  We have been using another vet for health issues and see no reason to change.First, make sure you have the address right...They recently moved to another stand alone building on Silas Deane and are now very close to a Puritan Furniture store.  You can also see a McDonalds a few buildings south.  If you are in a strip mall, you've gone to the wrong place!Overall, very pleased with our experience at Catzablanca.  They will walk you through the facility to show you were your cat will be kept and it is all very clean.  Unlike boarding our dog, I am not expecting our cat to be let out much, so a clean cage with room to move around is enough here.  Our cat has some special issues (meds, quasi-special food) and they do a good job of conducting an initial interview each time and getting the directions down cold before you leave.  Bonus:  While we don't use the vet-only formulated cat food, we do require something beyond you standard can of Friskies brand.  They actually carry our brand of special cat food and feedings are included in total cost.  Total cost per night is roughly $15 which floored me from what we were paying for our dog.Additional bonus:  They also sell various cat food and supplies.  Again...was surprised to find they actually sell our specialized brand at lower cost than any other store in area.  Add on a loyalty card program, and this is also our go-to spot for food as well as boarding. One negative which other reviewers picked up on:  They do have 'front of the house' issues here.  Have come in on multiple occasions and either the staff is arguing in front of me, the person manning the desk takes their time to get to you, or there is no one at the desk at all!  I cut some slack here as most animal care places have this sort of attitude when it comes to greeting customers, but a bit more pronounced here...Overall though, more than happy with the service provided here and especially happy given the prices charged.  A big recommend for cat owners. I have been a client of Catzablanca's for about 3 years and this is my first review.  My latest visit was for my cat Eli.  When brushing his teeth, I noticed some gum bleeding and his breath was BAD!  I immediately called Catzablanca to get Eli seen by Dr. Peter Braun.  Dr. Braun confirmed that there were infected teeth and he needed a dental procedure.  The staff scheduled an appointment within a day of this particular visit.  I always get nervous when my animals are having any procedure and in particular because a dental requires anesthesia.  Needless to say, I had nothing to worry about because he was in competent and caring hands!  The cost of his care was very reasonable, especially considering he had to have five teeth removed and required aftercare.  He is now home, happy and healthy!First and foremost, I honestly feel my cats get the best of the best in quality care.  Dr. Braun is a wonderful and caring veterinarian with a terrific bedside manner!  I never feel rushed during our visits and all my questions are always answered completely.  The staff is so caring and considerate, always happy to check on my cat when I call.   I would highly recommend Catzablanca to all who ask! This Story is sad but the staff at Catzablanca are amazing. We had adopted/rescued a female orange tabby kitten two months ago and she was the sweetest, happy, playful, loving kitten we needed to add to our family. Our male cat got a pep in his step again after we lost my grandmothers cat in August of 2012. We were so happy Olivia was my sister cat and after searching and searching all over CT for a female orange tabby we found Olivia a 9 month old kitten. She became part of the family in no time my older dog and cat accepted her and my 8month old puppy became friends instantly. Olivia learned from Salem on what to you and how to act she was upstairs the day after easter. It had only been a few days. she loved being with us during our fmaily times. My sister adopted olivia and was planning on having her in her senior pictures for high school next year she was her cat and her friend. She wanted a animal cuz her twin is going off to college next fall 2014 and she is staying behind to work with animals and plant science. She was the sweetest cat everWhen Olivia was 11 months old we noticed she was loosing weight. And she wasnt acting like the kitten that we had adopted. first we thought it was diabetes cuz she was in the shower drinking water and laying in our bathroon like our old cat use to. So we brought her to our vet and he took test and xrays and everything. He came back into the room and told us it might be FIP. He took her liquid from her stomich and ran an ultrasound. So we waited a few days he came back and said the test they ran he is sure 99.99% she has FIP but we'd have to pay more for the full test. We didnt wanna spend anymore money if the test was 99.99% so we would just let her live till she passed away on her own. The next two days we talked my family my dad called the shealter we got her at and was livid. My sister who adopted the cat wanted a second Opinion. Her VOEAG teachers at her school reccommended Catzablanca. So i went online and read reviews. My mom called and they didnt have any openings neither did any other place in CT. They weren't rude like the other places we called. They were so nice and helpful and they put us on a cancel waiting list within 5 mins they called us back with a cancellation. We brought Olivia there and everyone the staff and the Dr were so nice. The one girl who helped us was so sweet she was loving and holding olivia the whole time. Dr. Braun was talking to us. He ensured us it was FIP  he said in every nice calming words "Live is a great thing and something to enjoy but to have to suffer is painful." That was his way of saying she needs to be put down before she is paralized. We couldnt stand to be up at all hours of the night again. We did that with my grandmothers cat who passed away at 16 years old with diabetes. We couldnt stand to see Olivia suffer the same way.He Told us to love her through the memorial day weekend and that when we are ready to call them. We were worried bout our other cat getting FIP but they way its spread, he wouldnt get it, both were fixed never shared litter box or anything but my milk in the morning where he would drink it first then Olivia. Dr. Braun told us to spoil her and to give her baby food to get the protien in here cuz she was not eating. The poor girl had no idea she was dying she was confused and sad looking. We spoiled her bought her baby food and give her milk and vanilla ice cream. She could only eat that. it was so sad to see this happy kitten, who loved everything and everyone and loved to eat , become this kitten who was sad and old looking and not eating. My dad got call back from shelter we got her finally and they could not apologize enough. They didnt know we got all our cats from there. They offered us a free cat but we are not ready to move on.  Unfortunaly Olivia was to week to make it through the weekend we took her to Catzablanca on friday and she passed away peacefully in her room on saturday. My poor sister didnt say goodbye and my mom sceamed when my father told her. I got the new in the morning on my way to a new job. I couldn't focus. She was only  11 months old and such a great cat. Dr. Braun and his staff really helped us heal. I wasn't going to go there cuz of all the bad reviews but something in my moms heart told her she needed to. DO NOT be deterred by reviews on other sites your getting first hand knowlege from people who experiance in Cats.  If you are struggling with finding a good vet in the area or need a 2nd opinion for your cat, I definitly recommend Catzablanca. I read the reviews but go with your gut i know i did and my family is at peace now knowing we couldnt save her but that she was sick and she passed away peacefully at home where she was loved beyond belief and had a great home. We were so impressed we will be going back there again. We even got a Sympathy card from Dr. Braun himself. That means so much to us all. Read Less

We brought our 13 year old cat in and were told that the fluid in his stomach definitely indicated something terminal whether it was cancer or FIP.  My daughter was inconsolable while we waited for the results of the lab work results for his stomach fluid.  Turns out there was nothing abnormal about the fluid and that they THEN? took his blood pressure.  We were told he wasn't going to die after all and that yes, high blood pressure could cause vessels to "leak" into his stomach.  Why wasn't that considered first? Why was I told it had NO other possible outcome than death?Meanwhile, the cat had 3 x-rays -- all necessary? -- and we were told to bring him in for a $350 ultrasound.  I couldn't get an answer about why we had to do that other than to inflate the bill.  The Vet told me there was still a chance he had cancer and this would rule it out. The nearly $1200 bill was inflated outrageously, in my opinion.  The cat was anesthetized to have the fluid drawn from his stomach and I'm not sure that was medically imperative.  I asked what would happen if the fluid wasn't withdrawn and I was told this was to make him "more comfortable."   I HATE the idea that all of my treasured cat's medical decisions were based on the amount of money that could be squeezed from me.  I HATE not trusting a person in the medical profession who I strongly suspect is trying to embezzle money from me! The front desk crew were ok to deal with but my daughter had an unpleasant interaction with the Vet Tech when she brought him in initially.  The Tech also planted the idea that our cat was dying.  I guess the idea is that customers will pay more when they believe it is necessary to save the pet's life? This place is horrible. STAY AWAY! My friend had her parents bring her two long haired cats here for just a grooming. They had gone for groomings before to other places, and have had no problems. This is the bull crap that happened: Her parents had to wait 15 minutes to drop the two cats off because the desk clerk was chit chatting about her personal life with another customer. RUDE Then after dropping them off her parents received a phone call that another cat was disturbing them from getting their grooming done and they asked to sedate them. Her parents blindly said yes, not knowing why they had agreed to. Dont you think this kind of business should know how to create a calming environment for the cats to be groomed? I guess not! Her parents arrive to pick up the two cats and the two they bring out, one isnt even the right cat. SERIOUSLY? Then, the bill . . . $425!!!! Usually it cost my friend $100 total to get both cats groomed at other places. So apparently, it cost another $300 to sedate them. Dont you think they would have mentioned this cost up front? Nope - ridiculous!!! The $300 was to cover an office visit for each cat, blood work to do the sedation for each cat, the sedation, and the grooming. I have never heard of this before - not needed, they should have called and suggested the cats come in another day if it was such an issue. Most people don have an extra $300 lying around for cat grooming. When my friend found this out she was OUTRAGED. She called the place and demanded some answers and refund. She didnt get either. She recently told me and I am just as outraged. She got RIPPED OFF bigtime. I am making it my goal to tell everyone I know not to go here. I'm also posting on every social media site I can find. My review is less favorable than that of the prior reviewer.I boarded my cat with Catzablanca while my family took a vacation out of state because he required daily insulin injections for diabetes. The staff (vets and techs) was entirely unfamiliar with the use of an insulin PEN rather than a syringe, despite the fact that this particular medication is often used in cats as well as humans. A quick lesson in attaching the needle to the pen and dialing up the dose of medication was all they needed though. Upon check-in I was also hit with a whole list of "up-sell" attempts (a flu vaccine that wasn't guaranteed to work according to the vet, teeth cleaning, etc.) and I didn't like the looks I got when I declined the up-sell services. They include a bath with the boarding which was wonderful because my poor boy made a mess of himself on the short car ride over there, and they also trim their nails too - much appreciated! However, boarding him greatly upset him and he ended up refusing to eat, so they couldn't give him any insulin. At that point you would think SOMEONE would have called me...and you would have been wrong. I called 5 days into our trip to find out that he hadn't been eating nor getting his meds for 3 days (cant take the meds if they don't eat) and he hadn't gone to the bathroom and nobody called me!! I felt like this was WAY off base for a clinic that specializes in cats. If I hadn't called, I don't think I would have found out about any of it until I arrived to pick him up. They didn't even say "Oh, I'm glad you called - we were about to call you..." Not impressed. They recommended x-rays to see if there was any blockage and then some laxatives to see if they could move things along...ok I'm no vet but as far as my own experience goes, if you don't eat...you don't "go." They went on to suggest other tests (body scan type stuff) and I declined. My story ends on a sad note - about 6 weeks later we had to put him down due to the complications from the diabetes. He was never  himself after he came back from boarding. I would NOT suggest this is the fault of Catzablanca at all - I believe it is from the stress from being boarded, which is not their fault. He was a cat of routine and had not been boarded in almost 10 years so I believe that the stress was too much for him to bounce back from given his health conditions.Service is slow but thorough. If you are checking in to board your cat book 30 minutes for it. The facility is very clean as far as I could see. The staff seemed very caring and we received follow up letters and vaccination reminders (though they were never my regular vet). Boarding costs were very reasonable ($15-17/day for a cat that required daily shots was the lowest rate around). Read Less

Although this story does not have a happy ending, 5 stars are absolutely in order for the staff at Catzablanca. Dr. Braun is, hands down, the most professional, personable and empathic vet I have met in my many years of pet ownership. After getting nowhere with little, if any, help from the vet I have been using for a number of years (a scathing review of their utter LACK of effort will be reviewed separately) I took my 12 y.o. domestic medium-hair, Gracie, to Catzablanca on 11/18/10. Unfortunately, her condition was beyond critical and she was ultimately diagnosed with FIP, an incurable condition. Her problems began in Feb 2010 when she started to limp. She was seen by our former vet and "specialists" all of whom rendered an inconclusive diagnosis. Although the limping improved, probably because she adapted to the condition, she was never quite the same physically. We asked out former vet REPEATEDLY for help when she started to lose weight (she has always been a peanut - 6 lbs at her heaviest and 4 lbs at the end) and her appetite decreased. She was seen by them on 11/3 and we were told she was fine except for "slight anemia". They also recommended a repeat CBC in a month and wanted to do a dental cleaning...on a 4 lb cat? Really? Anesthesia would have killed her; I'm not a vet and I know that much. After 3 calls to that vet and ZERO in the way of concern or even curiosity about the diagnosis, I took her to Catzablanca for a 2nd opinion. She was admitted as an emergency and given the best care possible for her condition. Dr. Braun was committed to finding an answer and stayed in communication with us, even when the news was grim. While I understand that FIP can be very difficult to diagnose, the fact that her former vet didn't perform basic testing to even try and rule it out given the constellation of presenting symptoms was grossly negligent. Additionally, the Prednisone she was given back in Feb was contraindicated for the FIP as it further suppressed her already failing immune system.Despite the many signs overlooked by our former vet, Dr. Braun was spot-on with his diagnosis and was extremely helpful in giving us the information we needed to make our decisions. He treated us and our pet with respect to the very end which, IMHO, is the point of being a vet.Btw, DO NOT be deterred by reviews on other sites stating that Catzabalnca is expensive, etc. The truth is, they are a bit more expensive. Knowing that you and your pet will be treated humanely is worth the trade-off, trust me. They understand that not everyone has the income to afford Johns-Hopkins level care for their animals and will make recommendations that you can deal with without talking down to you. If you are struggling with finding a good vet in the area or need a 2nd opinion for your cat, I highly recommend Catzablanca.

Read Less

Today was one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a vet.  When I was a seventeen year old kid, I was on track to be a high school dropout living with friends without purpose or direction until a tiny kitten came into my life who I named, Francois. I did.My parents quickly fell in love with Francois and gave him the nickname Frankie. My parents "baby proofed" the house. But one evening after returning home from a holiday event they were horrified to find Frankie tangled in a plastic bag that had fallen out of a cabinet while they were gone. We decided as a family that Frankie, sixteen years old, had lived a good life and it was the responsible thing to do to say goodbye in a humane way with a dignified and peaceful send off.I explained this all to Dr. Andersen.

Read Less

I hate it giving this comment but I will. So I have a problem with my cat, I was trying making appointment and I was late, I called that I will be late. Even if you are so professional you should make some understanding, my cat will find a better place.Read Less

My cat could have been saved if they didn't skip her blood work that they were suppost to do. :( please don't bring your pet there. My heart hurts knowing I lost a pet to a careless vet . Read Less

STAY AWAYYYYY! Read Less

BEWARE - THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY Seriously, who sedates a cat to groom it when these cats have been going for years with no problems? BOTH cats. Just disgusted by these business practices. SHAME on you Catzablanca!!!! Read Less

Read Less
