My dog Finn died today. Dr.Mary Craig from Gentle Goodbye euthanized him at home. In was in his favourite position on the couch. He was surrounded by those who loved him. It was very peaceful. There was much crying and petting and kissing of him before he took his last breath. Dr.Mary Craig without me even asking or thinking of these things took a bit of hair from him and did a paw print impression.She was so calm and reassuring. She explained to us everything she was going to do to end Finns suffering. I am so grateful for her care of my beloved dog. If you can keep your pet at home during their last moments do so. My little Westie, Lochinvar, did not have to spend his last moments stressed out about being at the Vet. He could lay in his little bed, at his home, surrrounded by all of his little family and go to sleep as peacefully as I could have hoped for. This is the best idea ever. The grief of saying goodbye to a pet is excruciating -- there's no way around it. However, because of Dr. Craig, saying goodbye to my cat was infinitely easier than it would have been otherwise. By not having to subject an ill animal to a pet carrier, a frightening car ride, and the noise and unfamiliarity of a veterinary office, our pet's final moments of life were relaxed and calm. And he was able to drift off to sleep peacefully in a familiar environment, in the arms of the two people who loved him the most. Afterward, my husband and I were spared a grief-stricken drive, as we were already at home. Dr. Craig was amazing from start to finish. She was comforting, professional, and gentle. Mary was a blessing to us. She made saying goodbye to our beloved Peepers so much less traumatic than a typical visit to the vet would have been . I was able to hold Peeper's in my lap (her favorite place to be) while she passed, surrounded by her family who loved her. Mary allowed us all the time we needed to get ready. She patiently answered all the questions my 11 year old son had about the process, so he knew Peepers wouldn't be in any pain. She also assured my husband that it was the right thing to do as animals can't tell us when they are hurting and rely on us to alleviate their pain and suffering. She took Peepers with her and with her remains in a beautiful wooden box that we were able to put her picture in. I would give her 1,000 stars if I could. Read Less

Wow- If I could give 10 starts I would!  Dr. Mary Craig specializes in hospice care for animals at the end of life and euthanasia. She's a mobile vet serving the Fairfield and Westchester Counties and I feel lucky to have found her because my dog was always traumatized by going to the vet and it was always a big ordeal...Now, at the end of her life, Dr. Craig is making her comfortable at home and she is just what I was looking for!
