My Charlie has not been acting himself for the past few days so this morning I called South Windsor Veterinary Clinic and it describes his symptoms and made an appointment for tomorrow morning. Not five minutes later Larisaa, a clinic staff member, called me back and said Dr.Rose wanted me to bring him down right away because I had mentioned that I had put some turf builder down and I was wondering if Charlie had licked it off his paws, and could something like that affect him. Dr. Rose examined him right away and then suggested we do bloodwork just to make sure, to which I agreed. It’s wonderful when your little one gets such compassionate treatment from a doctor and from the staff that supports her. I would recommend this doctor for any of your pets needs. Read Less

We brought our two dachshund pups here when we first got them a year ago last December. They were two months old, and a bit nervous, but were given lots of special attention. We were offered a special puppy plan which was well worth the money. South Windsor Veterinary Clinic has taken very good care of our pups, and I can't say enough about the personnel there. Everyone is always happy to see us, and very loving towards our dogs. Luckily, the pups are healthy, but will be neutered next month. We have confidence that South Windsor Veterinary Clinic will continue to give our pups the best of care. Read Less

I have been a client here longer than I can remember and my dogs have always had the best of care We have had everything performed from the basic wellness checkups to dental care/surgery to leg/knee surgery. My little guys have all had issues (none brought on by lack of care and attention from SWVC) and some very severe. Seizures on one old Chihuahua that would have killed her years ago were brought under control by Dr Rose and Rothbart and another of my elder Chihuaha has a heart condition that has also been closely monitored and kept under control by Dr Rose. He recently underwent dental surgery that I had put off as I was afraid of having him under anesthesia. Dr Rose and her staff were able to perform the surgery (he is only a 5 lb dog!) and my little old man came out as good as new. He is the one who also had knee surgery when he was a pup. All 4 of my dogs have kidney issues and require special care from a disease they contracted years ago. I need special blood work and special diet for the remainder of their lives. Again, I feel these dogs would not still be alive so many years later without the care of this vet clinic. As for staff - I have seen some come and go like in any business. But I NEVER had an issue with anyone. I always felt they care about animals and they teated people fairly and very well. Whenever I stop in they all ask about the dogs by name. They know our pets are family and yes we get anxious and upset when our pets are ill. They always spoke to me with respect and showed professionalism and courtesy. I fully believe that if someone did not act appropriately or if they did not measure up to the high standards of excellence expected and required at SWVC Dr Rose would not have them on staff. Are they expensive as some said? I don't know as I am not shopping around. They are professionals with bills to pay so why shouldn't they charge a reasonable fee. I knew what I was getting into when I became a pet owner (4 times over) over 13 years ago so I am not going to start complaining now. If you love your pet take them to SWVC. Read Less

After 3 years of following the program laid out by the Vet for my rescue dog of 5 years  she got in trouble with another  dog.Fortunately it was not the end of the world.I told the dog Warden her shots were up to date as far as I new,and we were on our way.Upon further inspection I realized my dogs rabies vaccination was up 9 days prior.Backing up I was last in to the Vet on april 1st,to pick up a pain medication my dog required,as I paid for the meds I was asked if I needed any heartworm meds,I said no thank you  but I will be back on or about May 15th when her next round of shots were due ( this I knew from the postcard that my Vet had sent me)My dogs three year rabies vaccine expired on April 8th.I never recieved a reminder notice in  mail for A rabies shot.my dogs altercation with another dog took place on April 18th,she was out of compliance by10 days. moving forward that same day when I discovered my dog needed  a rabies shot I went straight to my Vet of the past 3 years ($3000 spent for my dogs wellness to date). So I asked  the Vet why they had not informed me of a necessary rabies shot.my Vet said if you did not get the reminder card you should have recieved our email.I said then that three years ago I was asked by you how  I would you like to be contacted ,my choices were email or phonecall,I said phonecall. This was my option 3 years ago.Needless to say I was very upset and as I was at the office getting my dog her shot the Dog Warden called to verify my claim as true. After disappearing to confer with other office personal my Vet returned and when the truth came out I asked the Vet how did this happen,I'm  a loyal customer ,I do everything I'm  asked and now She tells me the Warden is coming down to put my dog in quarantine for 15 days.my Vet literally runs from the room and disappeared .I'm upset but want answers and she's  gone.I move to the lobby to pay the bill,I ask numerous times to the counter help to pls get me the Vet,but to no avail, finally what later turned out to be the office manager stepped forward ( after a momentary pause to make a phonecall) to answer my questions as I was there to pay the bill and wait for the dog warden.Almost within an instant a So windsor  policeman opened the door and asked me step outside . Here's the real issue,I never once swore ,  I was upset but only wanted the Vet to acknowledge that her system broke down .needless to say,my experience with this Vet clinic was simply awful ,to add insult to injury my dog is put in quarantine I'm questioned by not 1 but a second officer as if I had done something wrong. Their ( the Veterinary staff) level of professionalism in my mind is sorely lacking.Proceed with caution for your pets well being as well as your own. Read Less

I would recommend South Windsor Veterinary Clinic to anyone with a pet. The regard the staff has for our animal companions is evident from the moment you walk in. The waiting area is spacious and quiet and the wait time short. My cat, a recent adoptee, was very comfortable in the examining room and we were given all the time we needed. Dr. Rose has a very professional and caring attitude. The practice has a small, personal feeling that both of us responded to. Post visit support is excellent, too. It's a class act all around! I adopted a cat about four years ago and have been going to South Windsor Vet. Clinic since then. They are friendly and work well with my cat. I even brought a litter of kittens for a check and de-worming before they were given to good homes. Even had my cat fixed afterwards. They helped me get my cat from a flea covered stray to a healthy purring fur ball. And all five kittens are in good homes now. Would recommend people try this office. Nice staff but...Overpriced.... Overstaffed.... Careless. The vets and staff are pleasant and seem to be generally competent, but I felt the fees and the so-called payment plans were not well explained or appropriately matched to the needs of the patients; further, I felt a level of carelessness around the medical care provided my cats that made me uncomfortable - which led me to seek veterinary care elsewhere. Specifically, I had two "rescued" cats spayed with only some of their early inoculations needed and spent over $1000. Based on on-line comps, this seems high to me. Also, I waited 10+ minutes in the waiting room each time I dropped off and picked up my cats in the morning, listening to the staff engaging in chatter in the back office: no one covering the front desk. My male cat's persistent cough was not managed well by this clinic in my opinion, and the staff were determined to interpret it as not covered by the treatment plan I bought (though likely the cat had the cough during the initial "wellness" visit a week prior). While I understand heart worm is uncommon and manifests differently in cats, they did not run blood tests for it initially - though they were told the cats were adopted from a local "shelter"that primarily handles dogs. Finally, my female cat has quite a number of visible and hard sutures still sticking out from her tummy more than a month following her surgery. One of the vet techs told me these sutures would dissolve, but I was not provided with any specific instruction as to how long I should expect this healing/dissolving to take (up to 6 months apparently) until I called today. I received no follow-up call from the clinic following my female cat's surgery to check on her recovery (which I found unusual as a life-long pet owner). Later I was told they had the wrong telephone number on file, which I had specifically requested another staff member to change at the previous visit when my files were updated. As I advised the practice manager who very graciously allowed me to debrief with her when I chose to remove my pets from this clinic's care, my experience of this clinic is that there seems to be a level of complacency and a carelessness around the edges - surprising with so many staff, but perhaps explained by so many staff, ironically - and a mercenary priority. This last perception seems tonally at odds with the clinic's articulated mission statement of being patient-(pet)-centered. In any case, I could not financially afford to continue vet care at this clinic for my sick cat at the prices they charge for each visit and treatment. Read Less

I have two older cats. When I say older, I mean they are 15 and 10. When my 15 year-old had a stroke last spring, I brought him to a certain vet in Wethersfield whose basic reaction was 'well, he is an old cat, so...' and didn't offer much comfort or confidence that they cared about me or my animal. Last summer I moved to South Windsor which gave me the perfect excuse to get a new vet. I chose South Windsor Vet Clinic and I am so glad I did. I've seen each of the vets but Dr Rose is excellent. She genuinely cares about the animals she sees and takes the time to explain things in an understandable way while not speaking like she would to a child. I've never felt pressured into any procedure or medication that wasn't needed. The care my animals have gotten here is truly top-notch. Definitely recommend. Read Less

I found their pricing to be competitive with other services in the area.Read Less

Read Less

Excellent service and pleasant clinic. The techs are friendly and helpful and Dr. Rose is both smart at diagnosis and good with the animals during exams and tests. I'm a physician, and it is important to me how a vet communicates on my pet's condition and options. She is very professional and really helped us sort out a difficult problem. Highly recommended. Read Less
