Let me start by saying that the staff at the front desk and the Vet Aide/Tech were very friendly. The actual Vet/Dr. was an a***ole. We brought our pup in for a free exam compliments of the pet store we got him from. Firstly the exam was all of 2 minutes, he handed us paperwork, showed us a dog heart infected by heart worms, attempted to sell us products, and never actually examined the pup, just looked at him and said "Yeah he looks healthy", and then went into a spheel about neutering, I mentioned that we didnt plan to and he interrupted me with very rude remarks with more attitude than I'd ever expect out of a professional, God forbid your opinion isnt the same as his. If your heading there for a free check up from the pet store you got your furry friend from I suggest avoiding it altogether, just find a local vet because your pup wont get an actual exam there. If the vet hospital says your dog isnt healthy then the pet store loses money and the pet store wont keep using the vet hospital, ergo it's in the vet's best interest not to do a thorough exam and why waste your time if your not going to get what your supposed to get. My puppy Mia boarded there for five days due to the fact that I had to go to the hospital for an aneurysm. Picked her up from vet she just seemed so tired then in the am she started limping on her left front leg. There’s no way she hurt it being home as we had both just went to bed. I brought her back to dr Ross first thing in the am when they opened. To me the leg and joint look swollen as I Went to school for vet tech so I’m not stupid. But dr Ross said it looks fine to him. Don’t ever bring your pets to him he is horrible. Read Less

Dr Joseph Ross and his staff are wonderful people. Professional, but very compassionate. Dr Ross has cared for my family's pets (cats and dogs) for a few decades, and remains at the top of his game. His support staff is equally marvelous. They have worked with my family for routine visits and emergency needs, and we have always been so happy to have them in our lives. The practice has a clean and comfortable waiting room, and the staff is vigilant about making sure animals that do not get along with others are watched. Small parking lot is just large enough for the cars of those who have appointments, which also cuts down on the worry of having too many moving vehicles around animals that are probably not happy to be visiting the v-e-t. Dr. Ross was recommended to me upon relocating to the area. Over many years of pet ownership, I have never encountered a veterinarian whose skill and compassion help alleviate the anxiety we encounter when our fur friends are ill. The staff at Dr. Ross's office are to be commended for their caring as well. I recently lost my cat to kidney failure and was so touched to receive a hand written letter of condolence from Dr. Ross. Should I decide to take another pet to love, you can be sure that it will be in Dr. Ross's care. Read Less

We are a 30-something couple with a small black lab who is turning 5 years old this year. We used to go to Dr. Quaintance in Danbury but we moved to Southbury, so my lab just had her first appointment with Dr. Ross. She had bloodwork done for heartworm testing and he checked out her leg. (She recently collided with another dog while chasing tennis balls at the park.) I was pleased with the cleanliness of the waiting area and the staff was friendly and efficient. Dr. Ross formally introduced himself and did a thorough examination of my dog's leg...toes, joints, tendons, stretching and pulling. He explained the parts that could be affected by strains or sprains and seemed very knowledgeable. He offered some additional testing on the bloodwork for several different diseases that ticks carry, which I opted for since our dog is often in the woods. He kindly recommended the testing but didn't push or try to 'agressively upsell' like I've had some vets to do. Then he clipped her nails and gave her a treat! It was a painless and pleasant visit. I also found out from a woman behind the counter that they board dogs there for pet owners who are away on vacation. This will be helpful for our upcoming vacations in the winter! Oh! And if you provide your email address, they have a "Pet Portal" where you can opt to access your pet's medical records and book appointments online. (Great for someone like me, who spends most days at a computer!) If I had just one suggestion for improvement, it would be to get rid of the two cushioned bench-seats by the front window. I don't trust any fabric seating in a vet office...never know what an animal has done to it. :-)Read Less
