On a cold November day, almost three years ago, I moved to Stamford CT. with my dog, Doug, a 6 month old mutt rescue who was suffering with extreme separation anxiety. Knowing absolutely no one in the area I focused solely on trying to find a good vet and doggie daycare for Doug, scouring the internet until I found Bull's Head Pet Hospital. After months of trying everything for Doug I was tired of the countless amount of vets who told me shock collars were the key, or it was something he would grow out of. All the vets before BHPH acted like they knew everything. That's why meeting with Dr. Nolan was so refreshing and has led to this vet practice being the only one I will ever trust my two rescues at ever again.Dr. Nolan listened intently to my history with Doug, offering his support and suggestions throughout the months after we moved here. When it came to medication, Dr. Nolan conducted research on his own, reaching out to other vet friends in his community, and calling me almost daily with his findings and recommendations. He admitted (how many vets willingly do this?!) that I would be best off going to a vet behaviorist who could provide more insight into the right medications for Doug. I pushed off his suggestion for years, until I finally went. Guess what? He was right. The fact that Dr. Nolan knew when it was time to hand the reins off to someone who specializes in this severe type of behavioral issue, has cemented this practice in my mind (and my many friends in the dog community's) as the #1 vet hospital in the area (though I'm convinced it's the best in the U.S., I have driven very far in my quest to help Doug). This same dedication and eagerness helped when we added a second dog, Clover, to our family. Clover helped Doug with his separation anxiety and quickly wormed her way into our hearts...which made a small lump on her right side all the more heartbreaking when we found it. After a rush emergency trip to VCA Animal Emergency Hospital in Norwalk (where the vet there told us it was nothing, just a fatty tumor), we took her in to see Dr. Nolan for a follow up the next day. He quickly took a sample and looked under a microscope and stayed late past closing to comfort us when he provided the news that it looked like a Mast Cell Tumor. Dr. Nolan comforted us and stayed in constant contact with me that entire weekend, keeping me posted on next steps and squeezing us in first thing on Monday, when we got the results back, so we could get the tumor removed immediately. He had his techs call us through every step of the way, from x-rays to blood-work while Clover was in their care. There are no words to describe how wonderful every single person was that horrible week we took her in for surgery. Believe me, I was a crying mess with unlimited questions and worries. They don't get more crazy than me... and the entire practice was understanding and helpful. Clover, unfortunately, ended up having another lump a few weeks later, while I was on vacation. Dr. Nolan worked with my boyfriend to fit Clover in for a consultation and then another surgery, calling me and emailing me to keep me in the know. I tell you from experience that BHPH is the one place I know that everything will be okay if my dogs are there. It turns out Clover has a genetic condition that makes more of these awful tumors likely, and Dr. Nolan and his team have been absolutely accommodating to every late night panic email, and phone call I send their way. It's gotten to the point that when I tell my family about a lump, their immediate response is to sigh in relief when I tell them that Dr. Nolan and his team are on it. Though Doug's anxiety is finally under control, Dr. Nolan never hesitates to praise us for our dedication to him and ask us for advice when he has other clients come in with similar SA issues. I don't give my recommendation out lightly, especially when it comes to my fur-babies. But I 100% recommend Dr. Nolan and his team. Thank you BHPH! Read Less
