We have been taking our rescue pups to Bull's Head since we moved to the Stamford area ten years ago. They have been amazing and responsive to each of them, through to the end of their lives. This latest review, I am writing to express my heartfelt thanks to the veterinarians and staff at Bull's Head for being so incredibly responsive to our needs for our pup Buffy. They gave us treatment options and then, ultimately, provided us with responsive and loving care for her end of life. They were supportive and - I cannot stress this enough - incredibly responsive. We will *of course!* continue our care there with our rescue pup Cooper, and will continue to use Bull's Head for all of our pets. Nolan Zeide, who came out to us to help with Buffy, was caring, patient, and everything was exactly how she and we needed to do this last gift to Buffy as her human parents. I also want to shout-out Jessica Greenberg (Batkin) for her ideas and support as Buffy deteriorated. Like someone else said in their review, if there were more stars to give this practice, I would give them. Read Less

A Note of Caution from a PatientMy name is Jack. I was a large standard poodle. I died two weeks ago. I thought Dr. Steve and Dr. Nolan loved me, but I guess they really just pretended. When I was dying, my Dad called Dr. Nolan who had left the clinic and the receptionist never got him to call back or he didn't want to.  Dr. Steve was too busy with a patient to take my Dad's call. When he did call, it was too late for me. Dr. Steve's advice to take me to Cornell was impossible and too late given what I was experiencing;  even a standard poodle knew that. Dr. Steve said he'd call back in 20 minutes; he never did. Dr. Nolan called instead some 30 minutes later. My dad asked Dr. Nolan what to do about two months ago if I died at home. Dr. Nolan told Dad not to worry he would be there for me and my dad, but he wasn't. Only my dad and mom were there to love me, stroke me, and keep me warm. Dr. Nolan responded to my dad, "what do you want me to do, when he told him I had died." He then told my Dad to take me to Cornell Vet. and get an Uber if dad needed help. So you see, with all the sweet talk and all the 5 star ratings, I think Drs. Steve and Nolan have no real empathy for animals and may have forgotten why they became vets. Take it from this former poodle, think carefully about what you trust these vets to do. Read Less

I highly recommend Bull's Head - they are wonderful.  Dr. Nolan is incredibly caring and kind, and takes his time caring for each pet.  My dog is anxious and scared of the vet, but he has no problem with Nolan, who gets on the floor with him during every visit!  They also are reasonably priced for vets in the area, which is a huge piece for those of us with pets in our care.  The staff is also kind and caring, and very responsive for even the silliest of questions. We have had a great experience with Dr Nolan and all the staff at bulls head vets. We have a little English bulldog puppy (Bruce) who has been having all sorts of small issues. Main factors I love about this place:. - I'm a new dog owner and maybe this is pretty standard for vets, but they have a great email system. I book all my appointments by email, they follow up and email me to check in on Bruce and I can also email them a note, photo or even video before booking him an appointment. It's really convenient for my husband and I who both work and don't have time to bring him in on a weekly basis (and a little cheaper instead of bringing him in for an appointment for every issue that comes up!) - they have a puppy plan/package that is great value for money and offers 20% off neutering - Dr Nolan has been very responsible with Bruce and his vaccines, we want to space them out and we chose to hold off completely for a couple of weeks whilst he was on some antibiotics for a skin infection and dr Nolan was completely understanding and supportive. He also recently mentioned titer testing to me which is something I was always planning on doing but wasn't sure what their views were. I just think that it is amazing for a vet to suggest the titer testing instead of vaccinating their clients every year or so when they don't potentially need it. - Bulldogs are such a sensitive breed and very particular, I know dr Nolan understands this and has several bulldog clients and has owned several bulldogs himself in the past. He is amazing with Bruce and I think Bruce actually enjoys visiting! - Finally - Dr Nolan and staff work very hard, whenever I call and leave a voicemail or message with the staff he always calls me back that same day (usually within a couple of hours) even on a weekend. It's much appreciated and doesn't go unnoticed! Read Less

Our current pup, Baby Bruiser is extremely fearful of all things in the universe with the exception of me and my husband and any other dogs! Going to the vet is traumatic for most pets, but for Bruiser it's a nightmare. As were waiting for Dr. Nolan, Bruiser found a safe spot under the chair. Dr. Nolan was able to use some Fear Free techniques to help make the exam as low stress as possible for Baby Bruiser. He not only laid on the floor with him, but even slid under the chair to conduct the complete checkup along with his shots! Thank you Dr. Nolan, Dr Steve and all the wonderful staff at BHH! Read Less

I adopted a puppy back in April, and after taking a look around at veterinarians, I decided to give this place a try. They had a free first visit, so I loaded my puppy into a carrier and came here to visit. They're located in the busy Bull's Head area, a tiny spot wedged in between a coffee drive thru and a restaurant. There aren't a lot of parking spots, which is my only real complaint about the place - I've had to circle the block a few times waiting for a spot to open up before I decided to just risk parking at the restaurant next door. They have a fairly spacious waiting room for the tiny spot. There's no separation between dog and cat areas, unlike my last doc, but it's perfectly OK space. You're pretty quickly whisked back to a room after getting the pet's weight.I've interacted with both vets, Dr Steve Zeide and his son Dr Nolan. They're both really great vets, extremely caring for their clients, and they're both friendly with the human parents, explaining everything involved in a procedure. They were both gentle with my pup, and have good bedside manner.Something I really appreciated was their new puppy/kitten package, which is a really great deal. It covers most of the things needed for the first few months of life of a new puppy/kitten, from all the basic vaccinations and exams, and some of the routine tests. It also makes you eligible for 20% off of neutering, which is a nice addition. The staff is overall really great - the nurses and assistants and admins are all really friendly. They are really good about following up after appointments via email, which really makes me feel taken care of.I should add, I haven't used their grooming (short haired dog) or boarding  services, so I have no opinion on those.I'm glad I picked this vet office, and I'll be continuing to bring Dibny here! On a cold November day, almost three years ago, I moved to Stamford CT. with my dog, Doug, a 6 month old mutt rescue who was suffering with extreme separation anxiety. Knowing absolutely no one in the area I focused solely on trying to find a good vet and doggie daycare for Doug, scouring the internet until I found Bull's Head Pet Hospital. After months of trying everything for Doug I was tired of the countless amount of vets who told me shock collars were the key, or it was something he would grow out of. All the vets before BHPH acted like they knew everything. That's why meeting with Dr. Nolan was so refreshing and has led to this vet practice being the only one I will ever trust my two rescues at ever again.Dr. Nolan listened intently to my history with Doug, offering his support and suggestions throughout the months after we moved here. When it came to medication, Dr. Nolan conducted research on his own, reaching out to other vet friends in his community, and calling me almost daily with his findings and recommendations. He admitted (how many vets willingly do this?!) that I would be best off going to a vet behaviorist who could provide more insight into the right medications for Doug. I pushed off his suggestion for years, until I finally went. Guess what? He was right. The fact that Dr. Nolan knew when it was time to hand the reins off to someone who specializes in this severe type of behavioral issue, has cemented this practice in my mind (and my many friends in the dog community's) as the #1 vet hospital in the area (though I'm convinced it's the best in the U.S., I have driven very far in my quest to help Doug). This same dedication and eagerness helped when we added a second dog, Clover, to our family. Clover helped Doug with his separation anxiety and quickly wormed her way into our hearts...which made a small lump on her right side all the more heartbreaking when we found it. After a rush emergency trip to VCA Animal Emergency Hospital in Norwalk (where the vet there told us it was nothing, just a fatty tumor), we took her in to see Dr. Nolan for a follow up the next day. He quickly took a sample and looked under a microscope and stayed late past closing to comfort us when he provided the news that it looked like a Mast Cell Tumor. Dr. Nolan comforted us and stayed in constant contact with me that entire weekend, keeping me posted on next steps and squeezing us in first thing on Monday, when we got the results back, so we could get the tumor removed immediately. He had his techs call us through every step of the way, from x-rays to blood-work while Clover was in their care. There are no words to describe how wonderful every single person was that horrible week we took her in for surgery. Believe me, I was a crying mess with unlimited questions and worries. They don't get more crazy than me... and the entire practice was understanding and helpful. Clover, unfortunately, ended up having another lump a few weeks later, while I was on vacation. Dr. Nolan worked with my boyfriend to fit Clover in for a consultation and then another surgery, calling me and emailing me to keep me in the know. I tell you from experience that BHPH is the one place I know that everything will be okay if my dogs are there. It turns out Clover has a genetic condition that makes more of these awful tumors likely, and Dr. Nolan and his team have been absolutely accommodating to every late night panic email, and phone call I send their way. It's gotten to the point that when I tell my family about a lump, their immediate response is to sigh in relief when I tell them that Dr. Nolan and his team are on it. Though Doug's anxiety is finally under control, Dr. Nolan never hesitates to praise us for our dedication to him and ask us for advice when he has other clients come in with similar SA issues. I don't give my recommendation out lightly, especially when it comes to my fur-babies. But I 100% recommend Dr. Nolan and his team. Thank you BHPH! Read Less

I have been taking my dogs to BHPH since they were pups and they are now 13 and 9. When my German Shorthair finally had reached a point where she was too sick and old to continue, my husband and I cradled her on the floor as Dr. Steve gave her the needle and all three of us cried together. Dr. Steve seemed to be almost as upset as we were---after all, he had been taking care of her all of her life. Both Drs. Steve and Nolan are kind and caring vets. They never rush you and spend the time you need to have your questions answered and concerns attended to. When one of my toy poodles got sick last year and I took him to a vet in Florida where I spend my winters, they couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. He had stopped eating and drinking and could hardly walk when I got back to CT. At BHPH they were able to figure out the problem---Addison's disease---and he is now 13 and back to acting like a puppy! I wouldn't go anywhere else with my dogs. They are the best vets around! The vet suffocated and killed our guniea pig and our young daughter is devastated. We brought the animal in for what we thought was a skin condition but the vet held the guinea pig down so it had a hard time breathing and when my wife mentioned something to the vet he blew her off. Additionally this vet didn't even think the skin condition was an issue so if that's the case why hold it down and continue to talk, just hand the animal back after looking at it. After he killed it, he tried to claim that the animal had a pre-existing condition but the animal was vibrant and energetic before taking him to this vet and she didn't die today because of any sickness, it was the awful examination. Please use caution and speak up loudly if you think your pet is being mistreated. We will not use this practice again. Read Less

Its nice to see this pet hospital has so many positive reviews...obviously none of those reviewers own a guinea pig. I chose this vet since they provide "exotic creature care" and needed someone to take care of my guinea pigs nails. The first 4 experiences with this vet were pleasant. The last? Unacceptable.I took my guinea in for a standard nail trim and when the tech returned her to me, he informed me she had a split nail. No problem. I dropped the guinea pig off at home and went to work. When i returned in the evening, i was playing with her and she was being very skittish, and was resisting being petted. Low and behold, when i looked at her closely, THERE WAS A QUARTER SIZE CHUNK OF HAIR MISSING ON THE BACK OF HER NECK (see photo below). The next day, when the vet was open, i called and inquired if perhaps she had been shaved in that spot and given a shot without my knowledge, and was informed she had not. I was asked to send over photos of the bald spot, which i promptly did. Throughout the course of the day, i was informed that the guinea pig was being difficult getting her nails trimmed, and the tech grabbed her by her neck (i have been told it was because she was falling off the table or being difficult, the story has changed depending who i spoke to) and that is when she lost the chunk of hair. I was also told that the tech, when returning her to me, had informed me of the bald spot. I WAS NOT INFORMED MY GUINEA PIG WAS MISSING HAIR.Now, imagine my surprise when, the following day, when Dr. Steve called to "follow up", he had an explaination of why the hair had come out so easily, and offered a half hearted apology. When i asked for more information regarding the situation, he got defensive and informed me he had already apologized to me 4 times and i was not accepting it. He then told me either I was lying or the tech was, but that the tech had ABSOLUTELY told me of the bald spot. So, instead of getting answers regarding an unnecessary and traumatic experience, i was called a liar.I will never ever return to this vet again, and if any guinea pig owners ever think of bringing their pet here, i would reconsider. The lack of basic knowledge of how to hold a guinea pig (aka NOT GRABBING IT BY ITS NECK) as well as the pathetic response from the vet leaves a very sour taste in my mouth, and i do not wish this experience upon anyone else. I only hope that if this ever happens again to someone else, the vet chooses to believe the pet owner, instead of an employee who fails to own up to mistake he made. The guinea pig is very traumatized by the situation, and is not herself. I do not blame her, after being manhandled by a vet advertising they handle exotic animal needs Read Less

We came to this practice after a glowing recommendation from a trusted friend. We brought our new puppy to Dr. Steve and from start to finish Steve, and the entire staff, were courteous, sweet, and incredibly patient with our many "new puppy parent" questions. Steve got on the floor with our puppy and showed -- rather than just told -- us how to redirect, call, and gently correct our new puppy. The exam was thorough and Steve showed us the basic care that we can do for our puppy ourselves. He even included our two elementary-aged kids in the exam from start to finish and answered all of their questions with patience and respect.A few days later, I needed to call the after-hours number when our little guy swallowed the end of his bully stick, and Dr. Nolan answered the call immediately with no answering service or other intermediary. He was patient with my questions and eased my concerns, and then called the next morning to check on how our pup was doing! The level of service here is phenomenal and they definitely have clients for life! I recently had a crisis issue with my Cairn...not really a crisis, but when your baby is unwell it feels that way. I drove from Orange County to bring my boy to see Dr. Nolan because I knew he would help ease my worries and get my boy back to optimum health. He genuinely cares, remembers his patient and even asks about the human family!  I moved from Greenwich a few years ago and have tried another vet but I keep coming back to Stamford because no one else takes care of my Marley like Dr. Nolan!  5 stars isn't enough for this place!  They are truly a gem and I'm so lucky to have found such a wonderful place to care for my baby! We recently moved to Stamford from Arizona. We were in need of a new Veterinarian and some friends recommended Bulls Head Pet Hospital. On our first visit, Dr. Zeide over 30 minutes with us explaining the vaccines our dogs would need in this area and also made several other suggestions that were really helpful. He answered all of our questions and addressed our concerns about our two dogs. The entire staff here is great and it's clear they all love animals. Our dogs really love them. After every visit it seems like someone follows up to see how our dogs are doing. The care and concern for our dogs' wellbeing is evident. I am glad we decided to come here. Read Less

Dr Steve and Dr Nolan are the best! They treat you like family. My story:I moved to the area over a year ago and kept seeing their place of business as I drove by. I later decided to research them over the Internet and found them here on Yelp. ( I spent years in San Francisco/the Bay Area and Yelp is highly used their.) Their website online was easy to access and navigate. I was able to make New patient visits at the same time for my cat and dog. We had a long consultation and introduction with Dr Steve back in Oct 2016. Talked about their over all health and age.In Dec 2016 Dr Nolan performed several teeth extraction on my little 13 yr old dog. She handled the procedure well. We will be making our routine yearly checkup again soon. Please note,  they also do grooming. I take my cat twice a year ( spring and fall) to get a bath , get his ears cleaned and nails trimmed. They do a great job! Both doctors are knowledgeable and helpful. Their prices are reasonable for the geographical area. Don't be afraid to ask questions or express any concerns you might have. They will do their best to ease your mind and give the best advise. Read Less

I just took my terrier mix rescue to Bull's Head for her very first vet appointment since adopting her a few months ago. I was a nervous wreck, more so even than my dog Lady, because being a rescue she has some issues with being very nervous and timid. I wasn't sure how they'd handle her, but Dr. Nolan was AMAZING!! After a lot of searching and reading through countless veterinarian reviews, I finally settled on bringing my two fur babies to Bull's Head for their annual check up and shots. From the moment I walked in, I was super impressed with this place. The staff was friendly and helpful. We were put in an exam room almost immediately. One fur baby is an extrovert, and the other is scared of her own shadow (literally). The extrovert spent some exploring, and the scaredy-cat hid in a corner. After examining the explorer, the vet actually got down on the floor to examine our little scaredy. He said that he didn't want to frighten her and that it was best to be on her level. Although it wasn't a thrilling experience for her, it was incredible that the vet was so caring and thoughtful in giving her the special attention she needed. The vet spent a lot of time talking with me about their medical history and answering my laundry list of questions.I would HIGHLY recommend Bull's Head Pet Hospital! I would rate Bull's Head with 20+ stars if that option was possible! I had to bring my St. Bernard in during a situation in which I had never been to Bull's Head before. (Friends/neighbors of mine bring their dog there and raved about them!) He had taken ill in a matter of a day and I had no idea what was wrong with him. They were so incredibly accommodating and did everything possible to fit us into their morning schedule while I was overcome with emotion. They were so understanding and made me feel as though we had been a patient there for years! I have never experienced such thoroughness of his examination and empathy by the entire practice as I had with Bull's Head. Not only was the entire staff so amazing during our visit, but they proactively followed-up several times to check in on my big boy (who thankfully ended up feeling better).

Read Less

Read Less

After hearing so many good reports about Bull's Head Pet Hospital not only from neighbors and reviews as well as Cornell Emergency Pet Hospital I decided to bring my Schiperke up for an exam. I was thoughtfully vetted and given excellent treatment for my "Lulu's" sudden limp. The exam was thorough and the final cost reasonable. I have been a client of Bulls Head Hospital for 19+ years and they have never let me down with their compassionate care for my fur babies.

I later decided to research them over the Internet and found them here on Yelp. ( I spent years in San Francisco/the Bay Area and Yelp is highly used their.) We had a long consultation and introduction with Dr Steve back in Oct 2016. I have been telling everyone I know about my amazing experience and I hope that any pet parent chooses Bull's Head. You will be so happy if you do!! Read Less

As first time puppy owners we are so glad we selected Bulls Head Veterinarians. The doctors are truly present during each appointment, taking the time to clearly explain - in words we can understand - how to care for our puppy, what to expect as she grows up, what to expect when she gets "fixed" and supporting us through every step. The staff is always smiling, friendly and helpful. We are also happy with the on promise groomer Sandi - she does a wonderful job. Plus we email questions and always get a detailed response the same day. It's very comforting to have this high level of support and attention. Read Less

I have been going to bulls Head Pet Hospital for 2 years and I could not be happier with the treatment my 2 dogs receive there. The staff is always friendly and professional. I see Dr Steve and he is great. He really seems to love dogs. He never tries to push unnecessary medications or treatment on me and always explains everything throughly so I understand. They are also extremely accommodating. I took my puppy in for routine shots and he had a very bad allergic reaction. I called Bulls Head in a panic. They told me to come right in and dr Steve came in on his day off to tend to him. I feel completely confident in the care my pets receive and although I have moved out of the area, I continue to come to bulls Head as I do not trust anyone else with my best friends. Read Less

We can't say enough about the doctors and staff at Bull's Head. We brought our 6 year old Cairn terrier, Lily, in after receiving a referral from a good friend. She had to have a suspicious mass removed from her leg. Both Drs were wonderful with her and explained all aspects of the surgery, choices and after care thoroughly and never seemed rushed. They clearly love animals and treated Lily like their own :-) we will now be scheduling an appointment for our other rescue dog who is still very wary of strangers .. We know he will be in great hands!! Highly recommend these folks! Read Less

We have two dogs. A 10 yr old and a puppy. I heard of Bull's Head Pet Hospital from my boss. She mentioned that they have a puppy program. I called to inquire about the puppy program and what it includes. I then compared it to m current Vet prices. The puppy program offered a lot more for the same cost. I took Luckas (puppy) to Bull's Head and all my expectations were exceeded. My current Vet does not even come close to the level of customer service this establishment offers The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and you can truly feel that they cared about my pet and me. We saw Dr. Nolan, he was very pleasant and helpful. He made sure I understood everything before I left and let me ask as many questions I wanted. This is a great place to bring your pet. It think i will start taking my 10 year old pooch (Kixx) to Bull's Head as well. PS. If i have a question i just email them. I get a reply with in 24 hrs. In case of emergency, they have a Dr on call 24/7. Oh.. Did i mention I love this place...!!!! Read Less

Travelled from Newtown to this fantastic practice. ( heard only wonderful reviews from family members) Outstanding is the only way to describe today's visit. Dr. Nolan, along with his staff, sets the ultimate standard for what a Veterinary office should be. They were the friendliest and most compassionate practice I've ever encountered. Dr. Nolan was so thorough /knowledgeable during my 9 week old puppies first Dr. visit. He made sure he had answered any/all questions I could possibly have. His outstanding level of knowledge and obvious love for animals was compelling., a rare find in today's busy world. Thank you to all the staff for an amazing first visit. all I can say is THANK YOU!We got Leia when she was only 7 weeks and we took her to bull's head pet hospital, a puppy like babies they do get sick easily so on first few months we were often calling to the vet and they will always follow up. Leia is now a year old, we couldn't be happier with how everything has turned out. Dr Nolan and Dr Steven help us in every step with the responsibility of having a new puppy (a big one I may add), talking to the H we noticed how happy Leia gets everytime we took her there. and that made us so comfortable, we were able to leave here there when we had to travel and they will send us daily pics of her!! that made our day every time!! I remember the first time I met Dr steven, after the appointment I told my hubby, hopefully whenever we have kids our pediatrician is as lovely as he is! And I mean it! we love our dog! she is our baby! and We are forever thankful with both Dr Nolan and  Dr Steven for taking such a good care of our girl, and for been amazing with us in and out of the hospital.Im writing this review, sitting on the passenger seat of my car, while the H drives and Leia on the back seat, driving down to FL, thinking how happy was Leia every time we drop her off, im never that happy when I go to my doc's appointments, but I know the reason, she felt loved! Every person in that team, from the technicians to the girls at the front are sweet and helpful. And now that we are moving Dr Zeide is recommending vets down in Miami. what else can I ask for!thank you all!!
