I was over charged and taken advantage of when putting my dog to sleep...I called to make an appointment to put my sweet dog down and when I got there they acted like they didn't know why I was there. I will admit, I was hesitant, not sure of this practice once Dr. O'Grady left. However, Dr. Suppo has shown me he is knowledgeable, kind, trustworthy. The prices are fair (something also important to me) Dr. Suppo has seen and successfully treated 2 of our dogs, one is our senior dog. I will give credit where credit is due here. They did fit us in on short notice for a somewhat emergency visit. Our dog had a pretty good gash on her foot that required stitches, and they were the only place that could get her in that day. For that, we are very appreciative.I will also say that as far as we can tell so far, they did a great job with her wound. All the staff were generally kind, competent, and respectful. Our biggest issue is that we feel they have extremely unfair pricing, and took advantage of an emergency situation, since they knew we did not really have much other choice. The initial estimate for the stitches was over $500. I felt like this was totally absurd. After changing a few things they were able to get the estimate down to around $400. This was obviously better than $550, but I felt it was still really high. I respectfully expressed to them my concern about getting taken advantage of because we were in a pinch. They assured me that their pricing was very fair. They offered to let us return the cone if it was in reusable condition. They of course did not offer us a discount for buying someone else's used cone...They also offered us financing, which they said was an option they provide for the customers convenience. To me it seemed more like a way for them to charge really high prices and make sure they still get paid. Upon looking over the invoice and comparing with other vets, most of the charges were on the high end, but not totally unreasonable. The one that I did find totally ridiculous was $42 for a bandage. Any other vet in the area found this laughable. We did have an issue with the dog getting at the bandage because the cone they gave us was too small. The dogs head was pretty much totally sticking out of the cone and so it did not serve its purpose at all. When we called north torrington to ask about this, not only did they say it would be another $42 to reapply a new bandage, but it would be another $61 for the office visit "evaluation", even though we were there the day before, totaling $100 to replace a bandage that was only damaged because they issues the wrong cone. To resolve this issue, we ended up going to our regular vet, whose evaluation fee and bandage application total, were less than north torrington's charge for the bandage alone. UPDATE: our regular vet included a new, very similar bandage in the cost of our quick visit to evaluate how the stitches were healing. Total - $25. Almost half what north torrington charges for the bandage alone...not including office visit.Overall I don't think they are a bad vet by any means, but I do feel like the pricing is very unfair, and would not suggest going to them unless it is an emergency and you have no other option. Vet care is expensive today due to the latest technologies with testing but every pet I owned has been treated by North Torrington Veterinary Hospital in the past by Dr. O'Grady and now with Dr. Suppo. Im so pleased with the care that my senior dog, Bruno received at north torrington veterinary hospital. The staff are all very friendly , knowledgeable and informative. They clearly love what they do and kept me feeling comfortable throughout his whole procedure( which was quite extensive) . Dr. Suppo is a wonderful vet. Hands down 100 times better than the previous vet. He takes the time to calmly explain his procedures and always puts your pet's comfort first. I have had many emergency visits and many regular routine visits and i have never had a problem. A little pricier but it is definitely worth it. My only complaint is the wait time is always 45 minutes to an hour after the initial time. But i am sure that is because he is taking the time with everyone else's pet like he does with mine. Our only complaint about the NTVH is that it's darned hard to find, located adjacent to an almost-invisible small strip mall opposite the Lowe's on Winsted Road. Once you find it, though, you'll discover this is a very capable, very caring veterinary practice that ranks among the finest we've ever dealt with in over five decades. Our dog is a regular now and just recently went though necessary dental surgery and had eight teeth removed. He's much better now, thanks, and we're grateful for that and eager to spread the word about this vet. Dr. Marcus Suppo and his staff are professionals who seem genuinely focused on the welfare of animals under their care. And that extends to their owners, particularly those who face some financial issues. The staff gracefully works with those people and as far as we can tell never seem to push any particular expensive products on clients. They can get a little busy from time to time, and that's understandable because they're good and they have lots of animals to serve. We believe their prices are quite reasonable especially given the high levels of treatment they provide. We're all smiles and would urge others in northwest CT to consider visiting here. Read Less

This establishment is under new ownership but I was here when it's founder was here the only thing I've noticed is minor as it is consistent in services. Prices are average and they really don't pressure you with line items you don't (( need))..! We like the staff they are all very professional and genuine not car salesmen pushing a product. I have been coming to North Torrington Veterinary Hospital for over 20 years, Dr. O'Grady took care of my dogs until the day he retired, we now see Dr. Suppo and his added staff and can't say enough about the care he has given my little dogs Jasmine and Lilly. Both my pets have undergone a tremendous amount of test in the last 6 months, which meant that either I was in the office or on the phone on a weekly basis. The staff at the North Torrington Veterinary Hospital are phenomenal! There was no judgement upon my first visit that I had slacked on vaccines. My dog gets very anxious at the vet due to painful skin irritation, and they don't let his behaviour impact their compassion, and they are understanding that vaccines, blood work, etc can be overwhelming for a dog. Dr. Kaeser is beyond wonderful, and is willing to explain everything and answer all questions. The techs are equally kind and helpful. I had a emergency visit to North Torrington Veterinary Hospital today with my dog Jake. Upon arriving and giving him a initial diagnosis the outcome was very questionable. Dr. Suppo was very attentive and informative and I felt confident that Jake was in very good hands as I walked out the door without him. I got a ferret slightly less than a month ago. And I was finding someone who could take him in and give him his rabies shot and get his nails clipped. Everyone here was super friendly and they answered all of our questions. After the shot, they let Max run around the floor and he was happy as could be! The front desk has one super nice receptionist and one super not so nice receptionist. I had to put my dog down after Memorial day I was never told I wouldn't be seeing Dr O'Grady or the Vet I had saw the week before. I wasn't explained the process I was shown no compassion not even getting sorry for your loss when I left. I had a new male Vet to the office who I couldn't even tell you his name because it was not told to me. I should of left I should of just left when I got the attitude from the receptionist and I didn't so that is my fault. My dog my best friend was laying very calm comfortably quiet. Till he pinched his skin with the needle making him yelp in pain causing him stress and he immediately was sedated from that needle. So I couldn't even tell him I loved him I tried he had no idea I was there. So the last image I have in my head before my dog was put to sleep was him in distress. Perfectly calm to complete distress. Walking out not one person said I am sorry for your loss. I felt it was so cold an uncompassionate. I got a generic card in the mail. Not the compassion I would of gotten from Dr O Grady. I am waiting for his ashes and I can't wait to get them because it will be the last time I ever have to go here again. $280 for the worst experience of my adult life.Read Less

I will never go to another vet!! Dr O'Grady and staff have been seeing my animals for 17 years. They have gone beyond being the best! Today, 4/19/16 I had noticed some irritation on my Great Danes paw. I immediately asked around for suggestions on where to go, as I am new to the area. I was told that North Torrington was the best to go, and I now know why. Showing up with some pictures asking if I could be seen, they saw the urgency and got me in within 15 minutes. My Great Danes temperament is all over the place, and they were so welcoming and accommodating. I couldn't of asked for a more genuine experience, and more welcoming. Love Dr. O'Grady. He's a good vet who loves his patients, is patient with the owners and doesn't push things people can't afford. He will come in after hours and not charge extra (sometimes), stay late, come in early and always treat your pet with loving care.
