Just want to thank Dr Grasson for diagnosing Dino's over active thyroid condition. We just got back from the Pieper Memorial Veterinary Hospital in Middletown where Dino had the radioactive iodine injection. He is doing great and what a wonderful facility. I recently came to Torrington Animal Hospital when I got may last dog, Chester. I got Chester (dog) from Torrington Animal Control, the local pound. This is the vet that the pound uses so that, to me, says a lot about the care that they give their patients. The rooms are much larger and brighter than my previous vets office and the setup is also very good for larger dogs as they have a scale on the floor. Their is a second exit if you don't want to exit through the waiting room. This is especially helpfull if there is a grumpy dog in the mix. You can tell immediately that the doctors and staff genuinely love their patients and treat them as their own. For all these reasons, this place is where I trust the care of my family dogs. Been a customer there for over 25 years and was not able to get my teacup chihuahua in to see the vet until possibly later in the day. Very disappointed. My Cat Spike had been diagnosed with Cancer. When I came in to have him put to sleep the Staff was so understanding and respectful. It really helped me get thru that very difficult event. I've been going here for 19 yrs! My puppy had an appointment for a rabies vacc. On the way he was whining in the car. Let him out to pee before going into the office and was 5 min late. I've been bringing my companion animals to Torrington Animal Hospital for years, and have seen the staff deal with multiple health issues with great skill, knowledge and compassion.  At all times, they provide a full complement of diagnostic and treatment options, but tend not to promote false hope or encourage eleventh hour heroics.  They have euthanized a few of my precious companions when end-of-life issues made life unbearable for them, and the whole staff has shown great sensitivity and discretion under these  trying circumstances.  Dr. Coggins even sent a personally signed sympathy card a few weeks after a loss.  Dr. Grasson pulled my cat out of the clutches of death, and surprised me when she called to check out he was doing a week after he was home.  I always get the impression that the 'golden rule' guides them in all aspects of their work. My only slight problem is with 'M', one of the long-term office assistants, but even she is 'all about the animals.'  'M' is clearly pro-vaccination, and will make it sound like a crisis if you aren't EXACTLY on time getting vaccinations renewed.  She's probably heard every excuse in the book, but I really wish she would stick with the facts without giving doomsday scenarios. After reading all of the bad reviews, I wonder if they have had an office staff change? All of the bad reviews are older. I cannot fanthom that these bad reviews are about this facility! Here's my story: My vet was closed. It was snowing hard and the roads were a mess. My dog ran outside and broke a nail. She was bleeding everywhere and I became frantic. I called Torrington Animal Hospital and even though this was not our regular vet, they told me to come right down and even stayed past hours in a snow storm! I was shaking when I arrived and they were just as good at calming ME down as they were in taking very good care of my dog! Truly does not sound like the same staff to me. Read Less
