Took our dog Marley in on Friday.She was vomiting everything and dehydrated. Ultimately reaching a point where she was refusing food and drinking water only to vomit a thin brown liquid shortly after.Pros : - Provided necessary care. Didn't see anything not required on the bill. - Staff was affable. - Vet was knowledgeable. - Facility looked clean on the surface.Cons : - Paid $1250 for blood work, IV, antibiotic, X-ray, ultrasound, and one night stay.- Estimate for care plan was $2400. Required 50% up front to provide any care. This was for an estimated 4 day stay.- On 2nd day (Saturday), picked up Marley. No solid diagnosis after paying $1250. Vet was baffled. - Was referred to VCA Shoreline due to no adequate staff to keep Marley on Sunday.- *** MAJOR CON *** I informed the front desk staff and vet that I would not be immediately going to VCA. That if I did it would be midnight ( I picked Marley up at 12pm ) or potentially the following day. Marley was given to me with a bandaged leg where she was shaven and IV was put in. I assumed this bandage was for protection of the shaved skin and where the IV "had" been. The next morning I am taking Marley for a bath.. under the bandage is the needle in her vein with a tube holding blood and connection for IV!!!! I WAS NOT INFORMED THAT THIS WAS LEFT IN HER LEG!!!! This is a tremendous hazard that opens to infection, endless loss of blood if bitten or torn, pain/discomfort for Marley. I immediately called Trumbull Animal Hospital to request immediate support. They are closed on sundays.. a voicemail is all I could leave. I drove to their facility assuming that staff is on site for admitted pets. Not a single soul in the building. Who is taking care of these animals? Who would have taken care of Marley? Why do you assure me when I first took Marley in that weekend care was available?- Marley began to notice the bandage and tube. This was at 11:30pm Sunday.. I urgently needed care. No call had been returned.- Step in VCA Shoreline. I contacted them and they immediately fixed the wrong that had been done by Trumbull Animal Hospital. They saved her life.. put her first.. saw the urgency of the situation.. and didn't charge me a dime!Honestly, go to VCA Shoreline and avoid the messenger pigeon. Put your money in the folks that they will most likely refer you to anyway. They are more capable and there 24/7.Overall, I really tried to justify our visit to Trumbull Animal Hospital as being a positive one.. but it just wasn't. Great experience for myself and my dog! Attentive and carrying staff. They listened to what I had to say about my sick dog. If you have German Shepherds, Dr. Ostrover is the vet for you. He knows the breed well (he owns Shepherds as well). He even took a few minutes to play with the dogs and make them feel relaxed. Took my boxer there for years until her terrible surgery & being overcharged. The vet removed a lump on her leg and instead of healing it kept getting worse, horrible infection. I took her back 3 days after surgery and was told she was allergic to latex, really? so why put her on the strongest antibiotics? They took her in a different room to inspect the situation and my dog (for lack of better words) yelled out the most horrific scream. Cannot imagine how I felt. During the surgery, I paid for them to clean her teeth, which were not bad but I figure she will be under already so might as well do it. They didn't do anything, but of course I paid because there's no way to dispute. As for the overcharge; my dog just had her checkup, all good. Few days later she was stung by a bug and when I called them to let them know I was bringing her in, I made it very clear she just had her checkup, just want the vet to look at the bite. The vet looked at her for few minutes, nothing was prescribed so I go to leave and was charged with another checkup along with bite diagnostics. Read Less

My family has been taking our animals here forever, even before Dr. Kahn and Dr. Kellner; they have since retired. Everyone here is friendly and knowledgeable. I've first visited Trumbull Animal Hospital in 1976. Since than I have returned at least yearly, through several veterinarians, with many animals. I have never been disappointed,(quite the contrary, all the staff have been delightful.) All my animals have told me so. When it was time for my loved ones to go to heaven, the angles at this hospital were their guides. Gandhi says "you know the quality of a person by the way they treat their animals." Well, these are obviously the highest quality persons. I cannot recommend them highly enough. 3/29 - Again wonderful, compassionate, superior care for my little one. Dr. Ostrover and Dr. Robertson are amazing vets. They always treat my dog as if it was their own! Not only that but they always present information on the diagnosis fully with recommendations on what the would do. They are always willing to provide estimates so there are no hidden charges. What a disappointment. Our dog was limping and in pain. They did a slew of blood work $$$ and it turned out she had infected anal glands which they did not bother to check!! Was also there 2.5 hrs mostly waiting. Also could have been friendlier. Read Less

They charge for services they did not do. And test for things that you did not authorize and you end up with an enormous bill and when you complain they simply send you a letter saying they do not care if you find another vet.Read Less

I have been bringing our pets there for 25+ years, and quite honestly, they "used" to be very caring and I would say, Dr. Kahn STILL IS, but rather unfortunately it is NOW run strictly as a business. I recently had a very BAD experience there with one of the vets (who shall remain namelss) who hurt my dog quite badly. I filed a complaint with the office against her and was NOT asked for my side of the story, just received a very "cold" call from one of the secretaries saying they were terminating our relationship, and that my pet and I were no longer allowed there and they would mail me my records and to find another vet. This particular vet hurt my dog by making him bleed profusely when she cut his nails way too short (she is the vet, so you would honestly "think" she would "know better"), but no, there were two (2) clothes full of blood, and when I got home, he started to bled again, all over my home, my car and their waiting room (I had to bring him back to make the bleeding stop, but would only allow the tech to see him). It was only after I saw the very nice tech there, that he actually cleaned my pets paw and finally stopped the bleeding. The vet then tried to blame me for not getting his nails cut often enough (which I do faithfully every two months, but she said it needed to be every 6 weeks... like those two weeks really make a difference). His foot then swelled and he had trouble walking on it. So I made an appointment with the only vet there I completely trusted (Dr. Kahn) and I did what any other person who loves their pet as much as I do, I filed a complaint against the vet who hurt my baby so badly. And what do they do, certainly not apologise to me for hurting my baby. NO, of course not, they cancelled my appointment with Dr. Kahn and again, the head vet did not even offer me the courtesy of getting my side, but just decided to send me my records and tell me I am never allowed back there. How disheartening that after such a long relationship they would be so very cold hearted. They care nothing about your pets, they only care about the money they can take from you, by making appointments you don't need, suggesting medicines you do not need, etc. They are not welcoming, they are not friendly and they simply stop actually caring about your pets and started to run the hospital as strictly a business. The LEAST they could have done, was gotten my side of the story and apologised to me for treating my dog so poorly. Read Less
