At first treatment was great, staff was great, but when my dog really needed it - I.e his diagnosis of Addison disease (a serious life threatening disease that could cause my dog to go into shock at any moment) it’s took almost 24-36 hours to hear back despite calling the doctors 3 times. I will never be back for this reason alone. Not to mention I spent about 3000$ Read Less

This facility is awful. My dog was falsely diagnosed by their IM with Addison’s. She was placed on long term steroids, and the IM refused to reduce the dose. I ended up tapering the dose down on my own, as I knew how bad the use of steroids can be. As predicted, my dog developed diabetes from the steroid use. The IM handled the diabetes completely wrong. My dog then ended up with pancreatitis due to the food the vet prescribed (a prescription food too high in fat for diabetics, which leads to pancreatitis). After another stay at the ER, and multiple visits (weekly) I finally asked the IM to use the treatment plan for diabetes according to the guidelines of veterinarian care. She refused and then informed me she was leaving the country for good in 2 weeks (no notice). That was the best thing that ever happened to my dog, as our new IM took 1 look at the records and knew the Addison’s was false and helped me get my dog stabilized. My dog then ruptured her CCL and needed surgery to repair it. I stupidly went back to NEVCC for the procedure, as they are very close and convenient. The surgery itself went well. I picked my dog up the next day and she hadn’t eaten yet, was lethargic, incontinent and coughing. When I called the surgeon (I only got to speak with the tech) she told me it was normal. I called back the next day and was told to stop the antibiotics. I called back on the next day and was told to bring her to the ER for bloodwork and a chest X-ray. The surgeon apparently didn’t care enough to do any of her own follow up. Another day at the ER (another $1500), to be told she ‘may have aspiration pneumonia’. And I should have a feeding tube place (another surgery)! He didn’t want to give antibiotics, as it could upset her stomach with her not eating. He said he would leave one for me to pick up if the cough got worse. He also sent out labs for $300, and would get the results back in a few days. The cough got worse. I called to pick up the antibiotics, and no one knew anything about it (it was clearly written on the discharge paperwork). It took 48 hours and 6 phone calls for me to get them to fill it. The receptionist actually told me to come back into the ER so the doctor on duty could write the script! I have yet to hear about the bloodwork, but I know from past experience (urine cultures came back positive, no one ever called, and it was 2 weeks before I called them and found out) it could show something. She is still coughing, she still won’t eat consistently. No one there has followed up to check on her. I go for our 2 week post op appointment today. Once she is cleared, I will NEVER step foot in this facility again. All they care about is the money, nothing else. It is so heartbreaking Read Less

Sadly, this place is all about the money. The staff (receptionist and technicians) are extremely cold-hearted. I filed a complaint with the BBB regarding my most recent horrifying experience by a technician. The technician behaviors was a poor representation of the team. The technician failed to abide by her duties and obligations to provide quality care. The technician behavior needs to be further investigated. Hence, why I filed a complaint regarding her behaviors. I do not recommend this place, it’s extremely overpriced —- top priority is breaking people’s pocket —— bipolar behaviors by staff —— do not welcome inquiries concerning pets health ——— etc. the list goes on. Our HAVENESSE puppy started with diarrhea, vomiting, then bloody diarrhea on a Sunday early evening . Our regular vet was closed. I carefully monitored our "baby's " condition and deducted at 11:00:PM she needed to be seen! I called here and spoke with Judith, who was wonderful. She asked all the appropriate questions and was very upfront about the estimated cost of the care. At 12:15 AM I  walked in with my very ill puppy. The staff immediately started their exam, blood work, and kept me informed. The lady doctor, I apologize, I didn't hear her name, she explained all of the results of the blood work and of her exam. Furthermore, she went over what they did- - hydration and injections to stop the nausea, etc. All the instructions to follow up at home were printed out and Judith verbally went over them with me to assure I understood. Our baby looked much better when they brought her out and is doing much, much better today. In addition, they faxed over all the paperwork to my regular Vet, who called us early this morning.I have one more comment regarding Judith; when I was leaving, she noticed a strange car had pulled into the parking lot. She accompanied me and my baby to my car, thus assuring our safety. This facility was very clean. The staff extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I was afraid that our beloved puppy would not make it through the night, but thanks to the staff here, she is doing so much better. Read Less

STAY AWAY from this place if you really want your fur baby to be safe and if you care for their well being. I came to New England Vet Center to get an opinion for surgery for my fur baby. Here are my observations and recommendations to pet parents:1. Walking to the front desk, you don't get the comfortable feel. The staff at the front desk are not friendly or welcoming. 2. The surgeon and his assistant who I met, OMG, had no flipping clue of what they are talking or suggesting. My dog had an ear infection and surgery was the only solution based on other feedback that I had gotten prior to coming here. The surgeon here recommended the same as well, but insisted I also do a CT Scan for $1,600 prior to the surgery. In my head I had trouble understanding why CT Scan and then I had the dumbest justification by the surgeon. He told me, if I do the CT Scan my pet would live for 1-2 years and if not his life span will be less than a year. I was horrified with the justification given to me and got me wondering what would happen when they have my dog under the knife. Then he also wanted to do another test for $350 for god knows what. The surgeon left the room to get prepped for this test and I was confused. So I asked the surgeons assistant to clarify the procedure and he told me that he has no clue of what the test is and only the surgeon knows about it. I literally picked my baby and walked out of there.3. All that these guys want are your money and lots of that. Outside of the $150 I paid for the consultation, the cost of surgery was the most expensive here. Please Please Please stay away from this hospital. I am not way coming back here and will not recommend this to any of my family or friends. Read Less

Added 2019: I was called to see if I was going to pick up meds they are holding at the desk. My dog passed a month before. I received a condolence card from the staff about 6 months later.I don't know what happened to the long review that I posted after my poor dog died of cancer July 2017 after undergoing radiation here.It pretty much said the same as all the rest. Cold, money-grubbing, the staff don't remember your animal, they don't seem to keep medical records because they insist on over testing and having repeat evals if your usual vet is not available....and Debbi O'Keeffe ... there are no words to describe her rudeness, coldness, unprofessional behavior. It's a malpractice suit waiting to happen. Don't ever put your sweet pet through radiation. Enjoy the final months/years with them. It does not work. As pet owners, we depend on professionals to take the high road and treat our pets and us with respect and practice excellent medicine. This does not happen here. Dr O'Keffee's brain and communication skills are very scrambled and unclear. Read Less

Agree with the other reviewers. This place is all about the money and takes advantage of trusting pet owners while providing substandard care. I was overcharged $100 on my first visit to the Opthamologist (who has since left) and I challenged it. The office manager never spoke to me or returned my calls and they spoke to me only via the front office staff. My dog was discharged still under strong anesthesia and was not fully recovered. I had to take three trips there after her procedure because the Elizabethan collar was too large and she was unable to eat, and the $100 contact lens fell out twice. I continued to see the Opthamologist because she was great and very conservative but the entire place is a scam. Sometimes there is no other option and this place darn well knows that and takes advantage of emotional pet owners who will pay anything to save their beloved pets. Read Less

My cat had urinary blockage over the weekend and I had to bring him in since this was the only 24 hr care in my area. As a pet owner, you have to go into this knowing that it's a possibility to be a lot of money. Especially emergency services and life threatening. They are really just doing their job and I base my review on how it was presented to me and customer service etc. And having been through a situation like this with past pets ... it was easier as I knew what to expect. With that said, the staff were very friendly with me with initial greeting and meeting with doctor and going over what exactly was wrong with my cat and all of my options. We ended up going with the procedure to unblock him and they were there every step of the way as he had to stay 3 days. They called me with updates and I visited and overall was a pleasant experience. I really did feel like they cared for my pet and to me that's all that matters in the end. Thank you! Read Less

First of all, we have a vet in Bloomfield; however, we purchased a puppy and live in close proximity to NEV...so we decided to give them a shot with the newbie. Made an appointment for a check up just to evaluate our new puppy that we had for about a week. Puppy is 3 months old. (Dr.) comes in, no introduction of her name, picks up our puppy, squeezes her tummy, looks at her and says she needs a bordetella shot (wasn't ready for her next distemper shot...which we knew). They give her this as a liquid in her nose, tells us to get her tick, worm etc...recommended some products and we decided on Revolution which they said covers EVERYTHING..we later found out it doesn't cover EVERYTHING...Dr. was not in with us 3 minutes...get to front desk and visit was $123. Office visit was $75 and bordetella was $48...we made a follow up appointment for her distemper (2 weeks). I went home and immediately went online to order revolution, online company sent it to their office because it's a prescription. About 8 days went by and we received an email from the online company stating they haven't received the fax from the dr. Office. I called the office and the receptionist states...we sent this, I know just who you are with a negative tone...I simply said well they sent an email that they haven't received, would you mind calling them? Fast forward...after thinking about their lack of service, we decided to send our puppy to our current vet (where our older dog has gone all his life). We called them, they received our paperwork from NEV and we were surprised to learn that they 'gave our puppy HALF a bordetella shot/liquid...is that right?but you charged us full price, never said anything to us about it being a half shot AND more importantly...our 3 month old puppy didn't need a bordetella shot at this time...but, since it was just a office visit they figured they would hit us up for money since they knew it wasn't time for a distemper shot. AND when we took our puppy to our current vet, he checked her ears, mouth, cut her nails for free, groomed some of the hair on her face, gave us tons of pamphlets and info that he went over thoroughly. Our visit was well over an hour...Shame on us for thinking this NEV which looked so nice from the outside would be so low on the inside. State of the art usually means the facility...not necessarily the people.#NotMyMoney#BeingNiceIsFree Read Less

Too bad they don't have negative rating selections. A horrible situation occurred this weekend for a family in the community who lost their home and everything they own. 2 of the rescued dogs were brought to this veterinary facility for care (not of their choosing) and this veterinary office charged this family what was described as an insane amount of money for them to be able to get their 2 babies back. While I don't know all of the details, and I appreciate that businesses have to cover their operating costs, I fail to understand the apparent lack of empathy and coldness that it takes to put money ahead of basic empathy for others. Perhaps a payment plan?... maybe a discount to offset some of the incredible hardship that has already been inflicted on this devastated and grief-stricken family?  While friends, co-workers, neighbors and even complete strangers pull together to do what they can, I guess there will always be those in our world who lack basic kindness and compassion.  Prayers going out to this family.  Very very sad indeed. I have owned no less than 3 dogs my entire life, they are my family and considered my children. I was referred to Dr. Debi O'Keefe because my sweet girl was diagnosed with cancer. She begins by entering the room, not introducing herself and just immediately turning her back to us and our dog and reading the chart, it was very odd. The entire visit she was condescending and extremely non caring and cold to me and my dog. When asked if she could draw blood with my dog in the room with me  ( she was very sick and needed comfort), as opposed to in their back room, Dr. O'Keefe flipped out and managed to become ever ruder and colder ( I didn't think it was possible). Went there for emergency visit for my 15 year old cat that suddenly wasn't walking properly.  I arrived and was the only car in the parking lot and we were put in a treatment room immediately.  That is where we sat for half an hour before the tech came in.  She took a quick history and left.  About 30 min later the Doc came in.  Recommended WAY too many tests and was going to have tech bring me the treatment estimate.  Again I wait 30 min, she shows me estimate, I tell her just x-rays for now and she takes the cat in the back.  Almost an hour later I went to the desk and asked to have my cat back!  I'm stunned they didn't have the courtesy to check in with me throughout the hour.  (During my time in the room I overheard one guy walkout because he was left in a room 45 minutes without the doctor coming in and then a woman was upset because her dog with a high fever was brought in back and after an hour no one had given her any updates).  Bottom line for me is that they lack customer service and I prefer to support business that appreciate and not take advantage of their customers. I have been to this vet many times with my foster dogs.  My last foster had heartworm and all of his treatment was done at NEVCCC.  They have always treated me and my foster animals with the utmost respect.  I am sure it is difficult to assess animals that are lacking almost any historical health information, yet they always get the job done.  They have been consistently upfront about costs and treatment options.  I can assure that the staff here is very caring and responsive, and have gone above and beyond to help animals in need.  Last night I rescued two stray huskies from the streets of Hartford and the police were unable to help for many hours.  Not knowing where else to turn, I brought them to NEVCCC.  Without missing a beat they brought out bowls of food and water for the dogs and inspected one of the dog's eyes that was infected.  The police were still unresponsive, so they agreed to keep the dogs overnight until the police could come get them.  Special thank you to Taylor and India for all of their assistance in cutting the red tape last night! On February 9th CT was in the middle of being hit with a big snowstorm and our beautiful 12 year old golden retriever, Lola, found herself unable to stand and it was obvious she was in some sort of distress. We called our veterinarian and he suggested that we call NEVC, as he was concerned that she would need an emergency procedure and was short staffed due to the storm. I called NEVC and they told us to come in. They were fully staffed and operating as usual. I called them a few minutes before we arrived so they would have staff on hand to help me unload Lola from my car. The 6 inches of snow that was piled up in their parking lot and blizzard like conditions didn't stop them from running outside to greet us as soon as we pulled into their parking lot. One of their technicians along with Dr. McGrath greeted our Lola with warm hellos and gentle rubs. They loaded Lola onto the gurney and wheeled her into their clinic. After they spent a few minutes with Lola,  Dr. McGrath informed us that she was experiencing pericardial effusion, which was affecting the function of her heart and that they needed to perform a pericardial tap asap! Right after the tap Lola had instant relief and quite literally her life was saved. After many tests she has been diagnosed with a right atrial tumor, most likely hemangiosarcoma. Devastating news to say the least, but a diagnosis that we are ready to face head on with the guidance of NEVC. During Lola's overnight stay, Dr. O'Keefe, NEVC's oncologist, reviewed Lola's test results, including her echocardiogram from MA Veterinary Cardiology and presented us with a few treatment options. After doing our own research and reaching out to a some universities who had been conducting studies related to hemangiosarcoma, we decided to start Lola on adriamycin (chemotherapy), Yunnan-Baiyao (Chinese herb for bleeding dog cancers) and I'm Yunnity (mushroom supplement). We were happy to see that Dr. O'Keefe supported an integrative approach. Lola has received two doses of chemotherapy and has responded very well to it. She is taking her supplements daily and according to her test results yesterday her bleeding has stopped! Great news! We realize that her treatment isn't a cure all, but it makes it so Lola's life will go on for a few more weeks, months or maybe even a year, while giving her quality of life. No words can express and no act of gratitude can represent what NEVC's support and guidance has meant to our family. Lola is a beloved family member who has given us so much over the past 12 years and we will do all that we can to show her just how much she is loved and appreciated. Read Less

I'll keep this short. People who usually go into this line of work are caring, responsive and sensitive. These 3 attributes are nowhere to be found within this organization. Not only did they break their promise to tell us costs prior to treatment and failed to respond to a letter about that specific problem, they completely misdiagnosed our dog's ailment and, 2 days ago, we had to put her down. I've reviewed this office before, but have to echo my sentiments after my experience today. I have not received such excellent care for my pets anywhere else. I recently moved to Middletown, so this office is a considerable drive for me, but my pets have been seeing some of the doctors at this practice for thirteen years and I trust them completely. In the middle of the night, my beagle mix ingested a large quantity of memory foam from his bed and starting vomiting repeatedly. Afraid that he'd developed a dangerous obstruction, I rushed him to another animal emergency hospital closer to me. The doctor there kept him comfortable, but told me that surgery was the only option they had to safely help him. They told me he'd have a minimum of two weeks recovery, multiple abdominal incisions, and quoted me a minimum price of $4,000. I was afraid for my dog's life and agreed to let them do the surgery there. It just so happened that the scheduling person realized the only available surgeon at that office was booked all day, so they told me to take my dog to his regular vet. When I got there, Dr. Masloski performed X-rays to confirm that there was no material in my dog's intestines, and then administered a medication to induce vomiting while I waited in the waiting room. My dog vomited a massive pile of foam pieces, and then she repeated the X-rays. She told me his stomach was now empty and that I could take him home; all within ninety minutes. I'm so glad that things worked out the way they did and that I did not needlessly put my dog through such a traumatic surgery (and spend at least $3,400 more than I had to). I cannot recommend Dr. Masloski enough; she has done right by my pets over and over. It's true that NEVCC is a large and sometimes-busy group, and that the prices are higher than those at other offices. However, the saying that you get what you pay for is very true.Read Less

I was shown to a room right away and a tech took my dog's vital signs. I was told the doctor would be in shortly. I waited over an hour and finally checked with the receptionist. I believe they had never entered my dog's information into the computer because I was asked the dog's name and then the last name and then why we were there. I was rudely told that the facility was an emergency one and had to put emergencies as a priority. I understood that but the hour plus wait and lack of information about the dog led me to believe that someone forgot we were in a room waiting. Even if the emergency situation were true, wouldn't you think that common courtesy would have sent someone into the room and tell me about the delay? She then asked me if I were going to keep waiting and she would find out how soon someone could see the dog. Of course, I said she had enough stress pacing the room for over an hour and I left. I never saw a doctor but I can say what I experienced was awful. NO STARS. Read Less

This place should be ashamed of itself. I've come in on the overnight three times with my partners foster cats. First time great, then the next FIVE times were awful. I've been to 2 other ERs since and when i mentioned my service here, tbey told me this placr has tkns of drama too! The 1st time overnight the blonde Dr and skinny tattooed nurse were amazing. So we continued coming. (We foster lots of pets and our home service vet can't come for sick visits)   the next two times at night, (both this summer) the 2 brown hairs nurses acted like my being there was a bother to them. Like I were inconveniencing them, even though they were emergencies and that's what they are there for! I even heard them in the hallway saying they were mad they had to pause their MOVIE!  So I thought it was maybe just those nurses, and the next  time came during the day, and my mom also came twice during the day with her sick dog. 3 blonde nurses. One was a total ditz, one smelled like WEED (like, stunk of it) and the other smelled like she just smoked a pack of Marlboros and gave me awful attitude. And the Dr with glasses...forget it. They used to be better. My partner told them she was unhappy and asked what days the sweet Dr and her nurse work and they say they are gone. Well. I'd like to know where they went, so I could go too. Sister in law took in their Yorkie Brodie for an emergency visit Friday evening. We suspected that he ingested something bad. They were able to get him to throw up and it contained something plastic. After blood tests, they treated him for ingesting a toxin and tremors that he started to have. They gave him an anticonvulsant and sedative and put him on IV fluids. Also treated him with carbon/charcoal to remove toxins from his stomach. We were able to see him Sunday and he was doing better but not able to walk - very groggy likely due to residual sedative. However, he did eat some canned food that we fed him which was a great sign. Went to see him Monday morning and he was nearly fully recovered. Able to walk and very alert. Also, has a good appetite. We were able to take him home today, Monday. The bill was around $2200, however, it was emergency treatment over the weekend and he stayed there 3 nights. Dr. Porter and nurse Nicole did a great job and we really appreciate their treatment and care of Brodie and the outcome. Read Less

I brought my cat there because he wasn't eating and kept his head between his paws. He was laying like this all day. I brought him in and the vet examined him. He said he would keep him there overnight and give him fluids. The next day the staff called and told me I could pick him up. I arrived to pick him up and inquired about his health. I was told he was walking around and playing. I had brought a friend with me. I asked about the bill. They then told me the total was 2,300.00. I said $2,300.00 for an IV? Then they told me that they had run many test's on him. I asked what they would do if I left without paying the bill. They said then you can't have your cat back. I didn't have $2,300.00 . luckily my friend had the money and paid them. The cat was brought out to me and looked worse than she had been before I brought her to the vet. I questioned the staff and was told just bring him home and he will start playing. Reluctantly I brought him home. Upon getting home I noticed he still had an IV in his paw. I put him down and he just laid there and wouldn't pick up his head. I waited 1 hour. Then I noticed a large purple/yellow area on his side. I immediately brought him back to the vets. I was sobbing. The vet examined him and said he " was near death." I asked why he had released my cat and why the staff said he was playing. He said he didn't know why I was told that. He said the most humane thing to do was to put him down. I agreed. He put him down. As I left the exam room to talk to the staff about his remains they told me it would be another$180.00 for cremation. If I wanted him back I would have to pay. My friend paid the bill once again. That vet trip should have only cost me between $200.00-$300.00. The only thing I authorized was an IV to rehydrate him. I did not authorize any test's. I initially came to this veterinary office for an emergency care for my dog that wasn't doing well and approaching to his death-- this was on a weekend when they had the emergency/weekend vets on call. I was truly impressed with their compassion and easiness to work with-- it convinced me to resume my business with them for the two remaining dogs that I have. However after going there three times for routine care/vaccinations-- it became very clear that the weekend/regular vets were two different species-- the regular vets were terrible, inconsiderate, rushed through everything and making unnecessarily (and very expensive) recommendations. I became displeased with this office (and I've been to variety of vet offices over the year- I've never been dissatisfied with any of them until this one)This are two examples of many mores of why to not to go to this clinic:** one of my dog got serious allergic reaction to several vaccinations-- had to rush her to their emergency care at midnight-- the office had the nerve to ask me what was causing those allergy reactions and what type of vaccinations she got-- this was only 7 hours after they saw her and everything was on file.** recently when I went to pick up the files for both of my dogs to be transferred to another vet office (which absolutely rocks and totally made me at peace about my pets care-- Veterinary Specialists of CT in West Hartford CT)-- they only gave me three sheets of my dogs cares in the past 7 years-- I'm one of those people who keep meticulous records and I asked them about the other paperworks that I gave to them.... They were incrediby rude and said that everything is scanned in the system-- I asked for the hard copy folder and they replied.. We don't do that any more-- once they're scanned-- they're destroyed. I'm just glad that I have the originals with me at my place-- but if a vet office doesn't have seven years of medical history for my pet on their file-- that's a concern! As I've mentioned-- their weekend emergency care team are great but it's unfortunate that the week regular staff are terrible and inconsiderate... Please please choose other wonderful vet offices in the area instead of this office!** This is a duplicated post because I noticed that NEVCC has two different YELP review sites** Read Less

My cat suffered an embolism that paralyzed his hindquarters on a Sunday night and this was the only facility nearby that was able to treat him.  On a Sunday night, they had a doctor available and saved his life.  My cat was there for two days and received exemplary care.  They performed comprehensive tests that led to an accurate prognosis and made the decision not to euthanize at the time clear.  In addition, the staff was very accommodating when I stopped by during those two days and brought him to me in a private exam room for visits.  They gave me detailed instructions for his care when I brought him home and supplied the medications on site. Today, my cat has regained almost complete use of his hindquarters and I attribute that entirely to the care he received here.  Both Dr. Porter (who received my cat during the emergency visit) and Dr. Berkwitt (who supervised his follow-up care) were extremely professional and had good bedside manner.  The staff were also able to refer me to a pharmacy that mixes suspensions of his medications in tuna and chicken broth (because anyone who has tried to feed a cat a pill knows that's not a battle you're going to win).  In addition, the follow-up visits were free of charge and Dr. Porter took time out of his schedule to come see my cat during his last checkup with Dr. Berkwitt, which really showed that the staff is invested in caring for your pet.I won't even complain about the cost because they were upfront with the estimate, and quite frankly, the total I paid was significantly less than the high end estimate I received.  It wasn't cheap, but for care of this quality, it's worth the price. I am not even comfortable with giving this place one star! They seem to be more about the money than the pet or customer service. I was recommended to this place for cancer care of my dog, the vet I dealt with Dr. O'Keefe is the most unprofessional to the point almost sarcastic vet I have ever dealt with. I went there at three different times to talk about the cancer treatment and when I decided on an option and went back in to meet the surgeon whom I never met they decided to discuss the case out back without me ( like I wouldn't have questions!) I was told that option may not even work and still a chance the cancer could return then why was I given that as an option to begin with when we sat down to discuss options. She kept bringing up radiation because that was the most expensive option when I was going with chemo beads which in my first visit was told that would be a good option for his cancer treatment. Then at my 2nd and 3rd visit I was very rushed like she was annoyed at answering my questions even got told she had another animal waiting so if she had to answer more questions I'd have to wait until she got back from her next appointment! you would think they would allow enough time for questions but I guess the more patients she sees the more money she makes because she certainly isn't about the animal. My last appointment was supposed to be to meet the surgeon and for him to determine the amount of beads he needed which I find out they already ordered prior to appointment even though once again she said probably wouldn't work anyway! and do chest X-Ray before surgery which they said they couldn't get. At the second visit she told me I browsed his report but haven't really read it fully but felt ok to give me options on the first visit without really fully understanding the case! They're pricing also changed at each visit to be higher each time. Read Less

My dog, Uisce, is a patient of an animal hospital in the Boston area. My husband and I relocated to the CT area and have been looking for places to transfer his care. Unfortunately, Uisce had acute neck pain, was crying/yelping in the middle of the night, and could not wait the 1-2 weeks to schedule a "new patient" appointment. I found New England Veterinary Center & Cancer Care, had his records faxed to them, and called prior to coming in for an emergency visit. The receptionist and assistants/vet techs I spoke with were professional and friendly. The vet who examined my dog was the complete opposite. She walked into the exam room and (before introducing herself) said, "what brings you to this Emergency visit, an emergency I would hope." I began to explain Uisce's past medical history and more recent events, and said that his neck pain was getting worse. She looked at me and said, "I'm not sure worser is a word." She proceeded to examine Uisce in an unorganized manner, startling him and then jumping backwards every time he moved (which made him even more nervous). I offered to help hold him. When she went to examine his neck, he tolerated her flexing and extending but started yelping when she rotated side-to-side. She then said, "it looks like the muzzle is bothering him more than anything." All in all, the facility is beautiful and the assistants are professional. The vet provided appropriate care and was obviously an intelligent provider. Her bedside manner left me feeling disappointed and bad about bringing Uisce in. We found this Vet at 2300 in a bit of a panic. Our beloved pet had, just that day, been discharged from another Veterinary Clinic presumably doing ok only to become VERY sick. We found them based on our previous vet's suggested posting on their site. I have to say, I personally, was very pleased with the care and concern of both Vets that saw our pet. We had numerous tests and eventually procedures performed on our dog. We were called with the lab results that night that were emergently drawn, and following a second set of X-rays for her that day, we were called with the results of them as well. They kept her as comfortable as possible and were...open and as gently honest as can be regarding her condition at all times. When she took a turn for the worse, they were quick to notify us and Dr Mizlowski was beyond kind in explaining to us the options available. We were allowed to spend whatever time we needed with her prior to having her put down.Days later we got the sweetest most heartfelt card from Dr Mizlowski offering condolences. I was very pleased with the service we got from this Center and would use them again for emergent care without hesitation and highly recommend them. I can only vouch for those services, but would imagine that the other services they provide would be comprable. Read Less

We found a very young stray cat and he did very well for three days. He then became very lethargic and felt very warm. We took him to the closes emergency veterinary clinic which was New England Veterinary Center and Cancer Care. Our new kitten was running a temp of 104 and not doing well. They took us right in and placed our kitten on antibiotics and IV fluids. He stayed for three days and returned to us with antibiotics to give at home. He recovered completely and the charges were reasonable for the amount of care he received. I would recommend NEVCCC to any pet owner that needed emergency care.VEL Read Less

Unfortunately, your pet is not top priority here; your money is.  I brought my cat in to have her eyes checked as they were irritated.  Before I made the appointment, I called to discuss pricing and was told it would be $100. The doctor examined my cat, told me she had an ingrown eyelash which would require a half-hour surgery that would cost $2,500!   I told her I'd think about it and went to check out.  To my surprise, the bill came to almost $300--almost triple what I had been told.  Even the eye lubricant, it turns out, was overpriced.  I could have bought it for a fraction online.  It makes me wonder if this practice cares about animals at all.  This is not compassion.  This is greed.

Read Less

We brought our cat here for their emergency services.  We were able to get in quickly, however we did sit and wait once in an exam room for about 45 minutes before finally asking if we had been forgotten.  We were helped shortly after that.  All of the staff members that we worked with were very nice, I can't remember the name of the vet who we saw, but she was extraordinarily compassionate when explaining what was wrong with our cat and when we made the heartbreaking decision to put her down she was so nice and gave us all the time we needed before moving forward.  The situation was still horrible, but the vet we saw made it a little more bearable. I think they were a tad more expensive that other places, but when you need emergency care you're going to pay for it.

I will not be coming back here because of this. Read Less

80 hours, 4000 miles, 20 days later, and our Kobi is celebrating his 13th birthday today feeling fine, and looking forward to being cancer free!  We cannot say enough about the dedication of the staff and doctors.  The Radiation Techs are angels.  It wasn't cheap, but well worth it.  At this time there are only two options for radiation in Connecticut if your pet has cancer - here, and The Veterinary Cancer Center in Norwalk, (also a terrific facility with terrific staff and doctors).  Logistics steered us to Windsor, where Kobi met his guardian angel, LuAnn.  We will be forever grateful to her, Ashley, Kathryn Ann, Melanie, and everyone else there who helped make a trying time more bearable.
