Not ok with debt, so I won't be returning to the Hockessin Animal Hospital.
I was told by Dr. Mitchell over the phone that my cat's bill was $198.98 I was then told that they were going to run do an x-ray and run blood work to learn more about the extent of her illness.
Before hanging up, I asked about the purpose of the lab work and the x-ray. I deemed the blood work unnecessary and the x-ray as beneficial. I asked about the cost of the x-ray and I was told by Dr. Mitchell, the services so far total $198.98, and the x-ray will bring it around $300. I interpreted this as the x-ray costing an additional $100.
I think about the cost of the x-ray for a moment and I say "that doesn't sound too bad" and explain why I believe the x-ray is worth the extra $100. Dr. Mitchell agrees with me.
When I arrive to pick up my cat, the young assistant, Maria, tells me that my total is $498! After explaining that I was told the bill would be $300, Maria offers to speak to Dr. Mitchell to learn about the services on the invoice. She comes back out, explains that the x-ray was actually $300 and not the $100 that Dr. Mitchell had allowed me to believe it was. I express my frustration and unwillingness to pay the $498 and offer to pay the agreed to $300. Maria offers to speak to her supervisor.
Maria returns and said that her supervisor has offered to break the bill into two payments, still totaling $498. This was the only remedy offered, and after 45 minutes of waiting in the lobby while Maria waited to speak with Dr. Mitchell and then to her supervisor, while the time was ticking because my 10 month old son would be waking up any moment, hungry for dinner I was stuck. They had my cat, they have my name on a bill for $498 and I was given no other choice but to pay full price for the services rendered.
Due to the unwillingness of Dr. Mitchell and the Hockessin Animal Hospital to work with me in an honest manner, I will no longer be asking for their services and if you choose to provide them with your business, I urge you to not only ask about the cost of each service prior to consent, but restate exactly what you believe you are receiving in a very thorough manner.Read Less
