We have taken five dogs to WAH and won't go anywhere else! Each dog had normal doggy issues and were always treated with love and professional expertise! Two Shih Tzus, Westie, Yorkie, Standard Poodle .. each treated throughout their lives. If WAH couldn't do the job, they recommended where we needed to go. Dr. Epstein is my go to veterinarian! I respect her and appreciate the attention she always gives to my dogs and me. Read Less

My family has been coming here for more than 20 years.  While it is on the more expensive side but you can tell the doctors and staff really care about your pets.  The doctors seem to really know what they are talking about and won't push unnecessary procedures on your pet: Dr. Ladman has told me before that doing bloodwork wouldn't change the outcome and saved me some money. They are always happy to give you an estimate and don't make you feel guilty if you can't afford to do something that day.  The cost is the only downside, but good veterinary care is usually expensive! When we got our dog from the pound they gave us a free vet exam so we called WAH and I was on the phone with the front desk girl for close to 30 mins on speakerphone along with my bf asking what to expect from this first visit. I told her about the kennel cough ( she had when we first got her), the scooting her butt on the floor, and that we were transitioning her food. (We transitioned then had to transition back to her old food cause she wouldn't eat the new food). I asked the girl a few times how much would any additional service outside of the free exam would be. She kept saying we would discuss when we got to the appointment. When we arrived I asked again how much would today's visit be? I knew we had the free visit but I also knew she needed a few other check ups that may cost. She told me the vet would tell me, which was strange because docs never talk finance only treatment. I take our dog to the appointment and ask when we check in how much will today's visit be? The young girl at the counter says again the Vet will tell me and rushes us into an exam room. The vet expressed my dogs glands, checked her over, gave her a preventative, talked to me about antibiotics, and asked for urine and stool samples for labs. It was a pretty pleasant exam. I was bothered when the doc made a joke about my dog being smarter than me when needing to go to the bathroom, the joke was a little tongue in cheek, but Iaughed it off. So when we go to check out an older lady is at the counter and tells me it's going to be a $165 visit! I was livid! This is something I should have known upfront. I tell her how I kept asking and no-one would tell me. She basically called me a liar and went to ask the other receptionists in the back if they remembered the conversation. If course they said no. Frustrated I asked for a bill for the expression which was 40 bucks. I left out of there so angry. They also set up a prescription for the nexguard and when I went to fill it the company wrote me back that it was denied! I will never take her back there cause they were so shady. And the bad part is that they did the exam, expression, and gave her her monthly flea and tick and another preventative so I had to pay for services rendered. Thankfully they only asked that I pay the 40 for the expression. The older lady at the counter was frustrating because she condceningly asked me, "When you go to the doctor they make you pay for labs too" I told her my insurance covers my labs. She shugged and said well mine doesn't. The attitude was thick with her. Again I held mg tongue and asked for the bill and a list of what I needed to have done on my next visit (which won't be there). She was reluctant to give me an invoice and I had to ask twice for my dogs records. Very annoying...I couldn't understand why she was being so snotty when everyone else had been so nice? It was a clear mistake on their part-why be a meanie about it? I don't care for bait and switch, which I feel like this was. Im hurt because I asked twice and got no answer on payment estimate. I am just because the receptionist was a tad rude. And most importantly I have to take my pup to another vet and start the process over again. We understand that some stuff is hard to price until they see the dog. But a lot of stuff can be estimated when the dog owner ready knows what's needed. For example if I said she was scooting then most likely she would need her anal glands expressed at the very least outside of anything major-tell me that price. Smh We are on the hunt for a new vet whose more upfront about cost. Read Less

I take my pets to WAH and it's always a great experience. I love WAH, especially Dr. Jankowski (although I have seen Drs. Werkiser and Green as well and had great experiences across the board). I have 5 cats that all go to WAH. On my most recent visit, I brought two kitties in as new patients to WAH and it was hands down the best vet experience I've ever had. Dr. Jankowski and Erika (nurse) spent over an hour with me and my two kitties, were both extremely professional and friendly, and really put me and my cats at ease. They explained what they were doing to my cats throughout the exam, talked about best practices at home (and took time to listen as I described my household), and didn't discredit me when I told them I just had a feeling that something wasn't right with my one kitty. Seriously, I left the appointment thinking my cats got a better visit than I usually get at my own doctor. Any time I've had diagnostic tests done on my pets at WAH, the doctor has personally called to give me the results and explain what they mean. I also am thankful to have found a vet that doesn't push medication right away, but also doesn't deliberately avoid it either (if that makes sense). I've had animals my whole life, I foster for a rescue, and have even worked in veterinary pharmacy, so I have interacted with many vets over the years. I trust my pets with Wilmington Animal Hospital. Read Less

In fact, I loved it there so much I ended up getting a part time job as a tech! Now that I am behind the scenes, my love and respect for this practice has grown. Every single person that works here puts the needs of the animals first. They truly offer a variety of types of care including: traditional, homeopathic, acupuncture, and chiropractic. Very Unprofessional and Incompetent Staff!!!!!!!!!I took my dog to this vet on 1/6/15 because she was urinating in the house.  The vet I saw, Dr. W (something), was a cranky, old, rude woman with no bedside manner.  She didn't introduce herself to me that's why I don't know her name.   She was impatient and she refused to answer my follow-up questions after I left the examination room. The front desk was incompetent and rude.  Another cranky old woman yelled at me when I asked why she would not view my smart phone to see my dog's records.  I previously emailed my dog's records to the office and they lost them.  They are so behind the time AND NOT tech savvy.  I was charged $99 for a urine analysis.  However, the staff was too incompetent to collect a urine sample.  When I suggested that they give my dog water to facilitate the sample, an obnoxious blond woman snapped at me.I requested a refund for the analysis and I did receive it. The veterinarians are so kind not only in how they treat the animal patients but also how they take into consideration the anxiety of the pets' caretakers.I raise my dogs holistically and Dr. Epstein is an EXCELLENT homeopath and supports me in my decision to feed my dogs a species appropriate diet-raw food. Just last month I took my Scottie,Argyle, for a non-anesthetic dental cleaning with Laura who did a phenomenal teeth cleaning job. Argyle's teeth were sparkling and when they were finished half an hour later he said,"Look, Ma! No cavities!" Laura is his new best friend! Please check out the WAH for your dogs. Thorough and reliable. Sixteen years ago, during my first visit here, I had a lousy experience with a male vet there. Honestly, that was the one and only bad experience. My cats have seen many of the female veterinarians at WAH and they have been thorough and professional every time. I appreciate the separate waiting area for cats...I just wish there was a way I could check in so they don't forget I'm back there. Dr. Ladman is great. After our original vet moved on, she was very caring and concerned with my cat.   The office staff leave something to be desired at times, but they're not the ones caring for my animals.  I feel my animals are in great hands...and your pets will be too. I am amazed that there are any poor reviews for this practice. We used them for years while we were in DE and loved them. I felt my dogs got very good care at every visit. We actually started using them when one dog's paw got hurt. I had never actually been there before, yet they took me right away to examine her. And they were terrific for boarding - even picking up cheeseburgers so my picky little dog would eat something! Read Less

this should be zero stars not one star. don't go to this piece of crap vet. bottom line is they don't listen and they don't prescribe what's best for animal. my cat was given a medication that was pretty severe...while there were better and less harsh options out there. the cat developed a "syndrome" from the medication. the vet should have said that this was a possible side effect and to give us a warning as to what signs to look for...and they didn't. the cat got worse and passed away. they should be ashamed of themselves for what they charge. they are far from a decent animal hospital. just keep driving instead of bringing your animal there. Read Less

We have never been to a doctor's office where EVERYONE was so helpful, considerate, understanding, efficient, competent, patient and kind.  The doctor's are extremely learned and well versed.  They offer and wide spectrum of treatment options, specifically suited for the needs of your pet  (and family).  They are responsive, and return your calls promptly. It is obvious that the doctor's and staff adore animals.  We are so glad that they have been our family vet for over a decade. I have been taking my 3 yr old yorkie to WAH since I got him!  they are great!  except the last time I took him, we had Dr. Shelley Epstein.  She was the WORST vet we have even had and will never be recommending her or asking to see her again.  She had a clear fear of little dogs and would barely check mine.  I had an issue to ask her about, and she seemed to not care.  I will come back and continue to use WAH, but will request to never have this particular vet again. FINALLY!! A vet that actually CARES about your dog and not just the business your dog bring them.  Been searching for a good vet in this area for 2 years and after going to one vet that was just cold and extremely overpriced, i made the switch.  GLAD I DID.  I think everyone in the place pet my dog and the doctor took 30 minutes to THOROUGHLY give us our moneys worth and answer all our questions.  They also have almost every service you could possibly need with the excpetion of being open 24 hours.  Best vet in Wilmington! One of the receptionists at this clinic has used her position to get my personal information. She has been using this information to harass me. I've attempted to contact the clinic. However, as a receptionist, she answers the phone and hangs up whenever I call. Vet records contain a lot of personal information, including your contact information, home address, sometimes even a social security number. Receptionists also have access to your credit card information. I would be very wary of willingly giving any of that information to this clinic until the employee can be dealt with.Update:I have since been contacted by a supervisor. If the matter is dealt with, I will remove this review. Read Less

As a local dog walker, I am frequently asked by clients who I would recommend to treat their pets & provide boarding services. -And my response each & every time is "The Wilmington Animal Hospital.". The doctors, technicians & staff are not only skilled, efficient & knowledgable. But they care for each animal as if they were their very own! Our three Labrador retrievers, have been patients for many years, and now consider the "Wilmington Animal Hospital" to be their home away from home. The minute we pull into the parking lot, they are overcome with excitement, because they know they be treated like "royalty" the minute they walk through those doors. The facility offers numerous services, such as medical care, grooming, dentistry, boarding accommodations & products. What's more, they have flexible office hours to accommodate the working pet owner. My husband & I have nothing but praise for the Wilmington Animal Hospital" & give it a 5 Star Rating!Douglas & Emily Kook Read Less

WE (my many cats and 3 dogs) have been  patients at WAH since 2008 and I wouldn't dream of ever changing vets! I am completely thrilled with the blend of traditional and homeopathic care. And I find all the staff there (including front desk) to be a delight.  Once there was a slight misunderstanding about the procedure deposit and gosh I must have received at least 3 phone calls explaining the policy and apologizing and I wasn't even the slightest upset.  I adopted one of my cats in 2008 - he was seen by vets at two shelters AND at other practices and always given a clean bill of health.  The first time Dr. E saw him, she diagnosed a congenital diaphragmatic hernia that had been missed by everyone else.  Ozzy now leads a full and healthy life thanks to the corrective surgery. I have been to at least 3 other practices in this area and have finally found the best! Appointment scheduling great, waiting time in office great, surgical care great, routine and homeopathic care great,  and love the web site and Pet Portal for keeping up with everyone.  Cannot recommend highly enough Read Less

I have been taking my dogs to the Wilmington Animal Hospital for years and wouldn't consider going anywhere else even though I live 45 minutes away. It is definitely worth the trip. The staff is friendly and helpful. Several have been at WAH for many years.

Do not get any routine shots here. They are way too overpriced because of overhead. They vet we saw (Ladman) also had no personality and didn't even ask me my name when I was bringing my animals in for their first visit there. I can't speak for the other vets there or for the other services they offer but I would hold out getting your shots somewhere like the delaware humane or faithful friends where it is a 1/4 of the price and you know your money is going to a good cause.
