Their vet services are way too expensive for the quality they provide. They sent me newly diagnosed diabetic cat home without being treated with scheduled follow up for 3 days ( this was after a 500 vet bill without even being treated). I was told by multiple other vets that it was extremely unsafe and he could die without being treated so had to bring him back to the emergency vet that same night. I had to pay for the emergency vet fee on top of everything else. They also charged me over 400 dollars for one vial of insulin which can be found for half that online. They quoted me a number and went over by a couple hundred dollars and couldn't seem to explain the charges. He stayed overnight a few days since I was working 12 hour shifts and told me a time I could pick him up then had to wait over an hour because they said he wasn't  ready yet. Very frustrating experience for low quality care. Read Less

I lost my fur baby Bella on Thursday October 25th.  On Monday the 22 Bella chocked  on a piece of Chicken and threw up foam non stop from that moment on. We rushed her to Wincrest Animal Hospital where we explained what happened they gave her a shot to stop the vomiting and fluid under her skin and sent us home. She continued to throw up we took her back explaining that she has a piece of chicken stuck in her throat.  Bella was admitted to the hospital next morning there was no change by Thursday they decided to scope her throat to dislodged the piece of chicken I said all along was in her throat!!! By Thursday night we found out that her esophagus was damaged and no longer working.  Food goes down but comes back out.  She would never get better!!!  We had to let her go .. The other wonderful thing that Wincrest Animal Hospital did was because we were label an emergency charged us more for all procedures they did.  They told us x-rays are $185 the tech came back in and said sorry wrong price we're an emergency they would be $255. Not sure how much thry care about pets or just money.  Anger, Frustration, Sadness and Brokenhearted I miss my little fur Baby Bella!!! Read Less

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE. At the very least, do not take exotics. It's taken me a while to write this review, because I was sincerely heart broken and traumatized from my experience. I called and asked if any vets had experience with rats. They said yes. When I got there they doctor had very little knowledge. She even went as far as telling me I shouldn' have them because they don't live long, ale to get a guinea pig instead. My rat had mites, but they overdosed her and she died. They put an ENTIRE tube of revolution on a small female rat. I got upset right away since I know the normal dose is one drop. She said it was fine. Well, it wasn't fine. I wish I remembered the doctors name. My 4yr old daughter was heartbroken. Read Less

Only reason I'm giving this place a 2 is because of like two people; otherwise, I'd give it a zero. I usually see the same vet, since very few specializes in exotics. Towards the end of my 12 yo rabbit's life, his body started to fail him, and I brought him in to the ER. My rabbit refused to eat, so the tech called me knowing that I make homemade treats for him. When I brought them in, the ER doc spoke with me and asked me what his diet is like. He doesn't eat hay, which I provide plenty of and in different variations. The ER doc gave me an attitude, saying she's surprised he lasted so long. During his first night stay, I received a call from the ER vet saying that they tried to insert an IV in him but he screamed and they thought he wouldn't make it through the night. On his third day, as I was about to leave from my visit, my rabbit screamed for me. I don't know what they were doing to him, but he was clearly traumatized, because I have never heard him scream in the 12 years I've had him. I quickly discharged him against doctor's orders. The tech gave me supplies for administering sub-Q's, but without a demo just a curt explanation, so I had to YouTube it upon returning home. I brought him to a new vet with all his paperwork and Xrays. Upon viewing the Xray, my new vet told me my rabbit had fractured his spine, which I had no idea about, because Windcrest was only looking for one thing. He ended up needing dental work, which cost me about $200 vs Windcrest's $500-$900, and the new place gassed him prior to inserting an IV to avoid stressing him at his age. Read Less

I have taken two different cats of mine, at two different times to this vet. I wish I could speak highly of them but I was let down twice. The first car I owned ended up getting stones in his urethra with beginning signs of kidney failure. They wanted to charge $7000 to do surgery and even then they couldn't guarantee the stones wouldn't come back. I respect their honesty but because of the cost, we had to put him down. The vet didn't even come in after we made the decision to put him down. The tech spoke to us about the process. Must be nice to have someone to do the dirty work. The second cat I rescued after we put our other one down. We took him here to get all the works. After $450 for the recommended shots and exam, they said he needed to be neutered. Again, due to cost, I decided to go to Faithful friends. I made him an appointment and dropped him off. After about thirty mins, the vet from Faithful friends called and said he had already been neutered!!! How dumb did I feel for wasting the precious time of the wonderful nonprofit. Bottom line, not only is this FSU I lit expensive but their bets are rude and incompetent. Stay away. Read Less

I went to the emergency vet last night at 6:30pm with my daughters guinea pig that was having breathing issues. she was eating fine and drinking fine when I took her and I left with a dead guinea pig. while I understand that these things happen but the Dr.s Bedside manner with a child in the room was TERRIBLE!!!!!!!! there are ways to explain that what is going on can be fatal. but to just come right out and say that the animal might die is just downright wrong. then when i said something to her she got defensive. I mean she could have said she might not make it she is pretty sick and then let me explain to my daughter that this is pretty serious. so instead I left with a very distrought child and a lifeless guniea pig. Needless to say I will be looking for another small vet clinic even if it means I have to drive to PA, NJ, or MD. My daghter has begged me to not ever take another pet there especially hers. We used to take our chinchillas here but have since switched to Penn Vet in Philadelphia. The prices here are easily double or sometimes triple the standard for exotics care, which is already expensive, and after taking our chinchilla to Penn Vet for a tooth trimming, we've found that the care they receive there is as good or better for a much lower price. Windcrest estimated $800 to $1,000 to trim his teeth, while the same procedure was a little less than $100 at Penn Vet. If you aren't local enough to Philly and are looking for a chinchilla vet, I recommend going to the Hockessin location of this affiliation and asking for Dr. Dallatore, who is excellent with chinchillas. HIGHWAY ROBBERY We've been taking our two dogs here for a few years, and they always find a way to bill you for unnecessary things. Most recently, we took our dogs for a regular check up, and they said that they needed a Lyme shot, which is fine. After, they told us just to drop in a couple weeks later for the booster shot. When we went in for the booster, they brought us back, and proceeded to do ANOTHER exam. After the visit, they checked us out, and told us we had to pay for that exam, even though we had the same exact exam done a couple weeks before. All they did was take our dogs temperature, check their ears, and weigh them! At the moment, we didn't really think about why the bill was so high for the booster. When we got home, we checked the receipt and realized the bill was for the booster AND the exam. We called and asked why they would charge us for the exam, and the woman said that anytime a technician puts their hands on a dog, it's considered an exam! It was so unnecessary! Our dogs literally had the same exam a couple weeks before. Why would they even need to perform another one? It's absurd! Every time we take our dogs there, it just seems like they are more interested in the money than they are in our pets. Don't get me wrong, they are very qualified vets, but they are too excessive with billing. On another occasion, our dog flipped his stomach and needed emergency surgery. We took him in right away, as time is of the essence when dealing with twisted gut. It can literally kill your dog within muminutes. They wouldn't start surgery until we opened a line of credit to pay for it. Our dog could have died while waiting for us to get finances for the surgery in order. It's just another example of how money hungry they can be. It's unfortunate, because the vets there know what they are talking about. We told the lady on the phone that we were going to take our dog somewhere else, and she didn't even try to keep us. They just seem like really cold people, to be honest. We have been more than happy to take our third dog to Banfiel Animal Hospital. We'll be taking these two their, as well. Read Less

I haven't been to any other animal hospital, but I can guarantee this will be the only one I will continue to go to when needed. The staff is so helpful, caring, and truly have a passion for their job. I have nothing bad to say about this place. Unfortunately my dog was diagnosed with parvo. I'm on a pretty tight budget and they were more than helpful for my poor puppy. I couldn't afford to keep the dog overnight for 5 days  at the hospital like suggested but they gave me all the tools, medicines, and tips to treat my dog at home. The technician that time was great and the doctor I saw was in a rush(obviously understandable) but still was great and helpful to our situation as well. I called with questions a couple times and they never seemed annoyed, always got me the right information and truly responded in a quick manner. I went back a couple days later because my dog was throwing up worms and the technician this time was just as caring as the first and helpful too. The vet was a different one as well but she was just as overly caring and basically everything you could ask for in a vet. They also answered all my stupid questions so I can understand it easily. Thank you so much to this great team. When my pup had very low chances of surviving you gave us hope. Now my best friend is as happy as he was before this vicious disease and I can only thank the wonderful windcrest staff for this. Read Less

She was a very nervous dog and we took her in and they charged us $1,200 to watch her until the next morning. While at dinner they called and told us the dog was in serious trouble. We left dinner and rushed back. The dog was in dire straits. They kept trying to get us to put her down. The dog rallied once and stood up for us.  They immediately whisked the dog away and the dog relapsed. After that they said we couldn't be with our dog and would call the police if we didn't leave. As our family sobbed uncontrollably, one nurse smiled at us. Heartless b$&@$. I never felt that they wanted to save the dog, but only get the additional fees for euthanasia and cremation, which in the end they did. An additional $500. We paid $1700 to have our dog put down. Our Border Collie had issues a week ago. He threw up, stop eating and became very lethargic. Took him to Banfield first. That vet said he had severe liver issue. Didnt know if cancer or toxicity or...? When we arrived to get Charlie, the receptionist coldly asked, "Do you want to take him elsewhere or schedule an appointment to put him to sleep?". WTH?!?! Banfield was rude, not cheap and very uncaring. We decided to get a second opinion from Wincrest. The vet there received trst results before seeing our dogger. She was expecting to see a dog on his death bed, requiring hospitalization. Charlie was active and alert. After many tests, it was confirmed that he does have liver issues but, the Doc wanted to attack some of the potential causes. He is on a regiment of meds now. His bad case of jaundice is much better. The doc said, "Charlie looks good for a yellow dog" lol. He is eating. He is pooping. He is energetic. There still might be serious issues w a bad outcome. But, the people at Windcrest really seemed to care. Nancy was the assistant or nurse that helped. We cant say enough great things about her. She was on the floor w Charlie, helping him to take meds, eat a little food and getting kisses. What a wonderful person! Id like to give kudos to doc as well, but cant recall her name. Dr. Meryl Kern was quite possibly the most horrific vet I've ever dealt with and has ever cared for one of my pets. She was absolutely rude and couldn't have been anymore insensitive regarding my very sick dog and the nature of the visit. Frankly, considering she was so unfazed by the fact that we had to put our pet down, I don't find her fit nor suitable to care for any pet. Our poor dog was yelping and crying in agony while she administered sedation in the other room and when my mother opened up the door to see what was going on ( as we were told that the procedure would be quick , comfortable and painless for our animal) she barked for her to shut the door. When she returned she made sure to let us know in a wicked voice " your dog DOES NOT like to be restrained" and in regards to questioning why our darling dog was crying " it's a needle what do you expect ? It's going to hurt anyone that gets poked by !!!" Dr. Merlyn Kern and Windcrest Animal Hospital were the most horrifying experience and I recommend you staying away and taking your sick animals elsewhere. Dr. Haviland, the VT, Lisa and all of the front desk staff were amazing from beginning to end. They were informative and knowledgeable about our almost 18 year old kitty's health issues. The most impressive aspect was how much they care. We were given their phone numbers in case we had questions. Dr. Haviland called us the day after our appointment to inquire about our progress and we received a hand written card a few days later. They have helped our kitty become herself again and for that, we are truly grateful. Read Less

I took my dog with a hurt leg and long story short, Doctor White prescribed two kinds of medications. We gave my dog the first dose. The next day we realized that the number of pills marked on the label didn't match at all on both medications, making us realized that the pills were swapped so we were giving my dog the wrong doses. We went back next day to have it corrected. They realized the person that filled the prescription made a mistake and gave me back the medicine supposedly corrected. Then I resumed the treatment on my dog but after a few days I noticed again that the number of pills did not match with the number of days left in the treatment. Once again they were wrong!!!!! They left them the same way as the beginning. Really??? I didn't bother in going back to complain but I don't think I can trust them again with my pet's health.Read Less

They took us in immediately. The staff was very compassionate. Dr. White was awesome. They didn't try to force us to do a bunch of expensive tests. They knew that she needed to be put to sleep. Putting an animal to sleep is hard enough without someone pressuring you to to spend a lot of money to "save" an animal that is old and does not have quality of life. I used Windcrest for at least a decade for my dogs and rats. They were great for several years and I don't mind paying more for better quality care. But I started to notice the quality of care declining yet I was still being charged the same prices.I had adopted a 10 year old Dogue de Bordeaux; whom was never given proper medical treatment from her former owners. I had her spayed at Windcrest and seen for general care. As she started to age, she would need to come into the vets more often. She was 12 years old at this point and Dr. Wilkerson, her primary care vet, suggested physical therapy for a limp, she was developing from her front shoulder. The PT visits were stressing her out more than anything else so I decided to stop them. One of the PT ladies, suggested something called the "help 'em up" harness; which I bought and it did help for a short period. But I finally had to make the decision for my girl to be put to sleep (I really don't like that term.) I scheduled a time for Dr. Wilkerson and his assistant Heather to come to my home. Well, first they were an hour late and they never called to tell me. So, my girl was at home, suffering even longer. I had to call Windcrest which had to track him down, only to find out that they had gotten lost on their way to my home. When they finally arrived, there was no apology given and they didn't even look me in the eye. It was a very hard time for my family and the fact that they couldn't even offer an apologize for being late while my girl was dying was just cowardly. If that wasn't enough, around the same time, my Westie was having repeated ear infections that became rather bothersome for her. Following one of her exams, Dr. Namey (the owner) said that it looked like she had tumors in her ear. Dr. Namey suggested a biopsy (surgery) to figure out what it was. The morning of the surgery, my mother dropped her off, Windcrest said they didn't see anything in her ear canal, yet still went through with the surgery. Dr. Namey removed a papule (a small, raised, swelling, often forming part of a rash on the skin and typically inflamed but not producing pus.) So she basically removed an inflamed piece of my dog's ear, not a "tumor". I tried to speak to Dr. Namey about this yet she never offered an apology nor did she really seem to care. I spoke to a staff member (that no longer works there) and I was told that Dr. Namey, most-likely, proceeded with the surgery because she had recently bought new medical equipment and had to off set the cost by charging people for unnecessary procedures. After I was given this information, about a week later, I was mailed a what I call "saving face" letter. Where I was discharged from their care because of the questions I was posing to the staff. My Westie has never been the same since and we believe her to be deaf in that ear.The only reason I did not give Windcrest a 1 star is only because at one time, they were very good with their care. I don't know if they have changed since I left, but in my experience, the doctors that I have dealt with seem prideful and they lack a good character. The practice seems to care more about money than the quality of life of their patients. Truly disappointing.Try Veterinary Specialty in New Castle if you need to see a specialist or need emergency care. Read Less

I would not take your dog here. Windcrest has a reputation of putting profits first and taking advantage of their client's good intentions. They seem to tack on unnecessary tests to each visit even when the visits are for common aliments. For us, the last straw was when our dog got sick while we were on vacation and they refused to refill his prescription medication without us bringing him in for tests (which we were unable to). This is despite the fact that there would be no health consequences from his taking the medication. Apparently, our vacation and our dog's wellness were not as important as the money they would lose by refilling the prescription without running the tests. Read Less

This is more a review for Dr. Bell than the place because we have used it only once so our experience is fairly limited but wanted to share our experience with Dr. Bell. Dr. Bell is AWESOME, no wonder it's hard to get a hold of her. Whenever we did get a hold of her, she made it clear that she was not in a rush and answered all our questions, even on the phone. She does an excellent job examining cats and explaining possible options for the cure. We adopted two cats and one of them had a difficult time transitioning to his new home and was peeing outside the litter. She told us that he had an inflamed bladder due to stress and told us we would have to put him on UTI diet which we did and so far so good. She didn't push the prescription diet from the place and told us that off the shelf products should be fine. However, they are more expensive than other places, especially if you compare them to some in Philly.Read Less

I had to rush my Precious Pet Rat(named) Pow there on a Sunday. He had a respiratory illness and was most likely going to die had they not have seen him. So , for saving his PRECIOUS Life, I give them 5 Stars. They were awesome from the moment I walked in the door, taking Pow immediately and giving him oxygen. The only reason I rated them with 4 stars is because, I had to call them when i got back home bc I was having trouble getting Pow to take his medicine(he was literally fighting me tooth and nails not to take it) so I called back desperately in need of the Vet or a technician to tell me the BEST way or a technique that I could do to get the proper dosage that he vitally needs in his mouth , because I had already wasted 2 doses(and I explained that to them) trying to get him to take his meds. So, long story short, they "Promised" me that the Vet would call me back as soon as she could that day,it just might take an hour or more, bc they had a couple other emergencies they had to attend to. That in itself made me feel like, we were not that important, especially when the Vet NEVER called me back. I FULLY understand, as an animal lover that other emergencies did arise for them, but I had an emergency too, and even if I would have received a call 4-8 hours later, it would have made a world of a difference in my experience there. Each animal emergency, each paying customer, deserves to be called back if they say they will do so. Read Less

4 stars for treatment of my dog, 0 stars for pushing unneeded treatments for a dog that just wasn't on death's doorstep (although the vet tried to convince me otherwise)Ok, so my dog ate some dark chocolate we caught it quickly and he was still his jumpy excited self.  We took him to the ER at Windcrest for them to induce vomiting.  Let's just say that it worked.  So, I'm thinking "great - lets go home."The doctor then comes in and recommends immediate hospitalization.  I ask what could happen if we take him home because he seems kind of fine (all considered).  She looks at me and speaks to me as if I have just asked her to put down my firstborn.  She made possibilities of sudden death, cardiac arrest and liver failure seem as if they were foregone conclusions and not extremely slight possibilities.  It was ridiculous.  I let the vet tech bring us the two proposals for treatment and not surprisingly the overnight treat was $1200 dollars more. Gross.I really appreciate the treatment my dog got, and the vet tech was wonderfully kind.  The vet herself needs to feel like less of a pusher of unnecessary treatments. Read Less

I recently adaopted a Cavapoo puppy from DHA and this is my first time owning a dog. I love my dog as if she were my child so I want nothing but the best for her. I made my 10 day post adoption appointment at Windcrest and at first I greatly was enjoying the experience. The staff at the lobby desk were incredibly friendly. Then I met with the tech who seemed a little stand-offish. I ignored but it became apparent with her and the vet that they didnt really seem interested in having me so much as a customer. It felt that they were treating me as if someone who just has a dog and doesnt give a crap about them. Now my little baby was scared and shaking because another dog was barking so I was holding her doing my best to calm her down. They both spoke as if I were wasting there time, and even though I had questions but informed them I really dont know much about dog care they didnt seem to answer my questions. They gave my puppy 2 shots and she was very out of it and not feeling well later on in the day. Her legs were hurting her and she was whining. And to put the icing on the cake, the vet goes very snobilly, " When you come back you can just see a nurse. dont make a appointment with a vet." So im like okay...the tech comes in throws the folder and medicine on the table and walks out. so as Im preparing to leash up my dog she pops back in and goes, " ...you  can leave." No kind of Goodbye, no see you later just a get on up out of here. So detached. So when I get home im going through the folder about Windcrest and puppy care and there is all these things in the packet the vet CLEARLY should have gone over with me but did not. So if you got my money this time but never again. If you want friendly lobby service this is the place for you. Read Less

"Your review helps others learn about great businesses".....sigh. I really wish that was the case. I wish that I could tell you -- at least after what I'm about to write -- of a really amazing place to take your pet for great care, but at this point I'm too scared to name anywhere at all. If you have any ideas, please let me know, as my experience with Windcrest has traumatized me for a bit and I don't know what vet to trust. After adopting a beautiful black puppy lab my two roommates and I affectionately named Kingsley Cash BKL, we noticed that his health wasn't exactly up to standard bouncy-happy puppyness days after arriving into our home. We brought him to a vet that told us to watch his eating habits, and prescribed us some antibiotics and Pedialyte to give him. He seemingly worsened over the next few days. On the Fourth of July, we noticed that his lethargy was too much to overlook and we rushed him to Windcrest. It was there, shaking, crying, gasping, and just zombie-ing out, that I said goodbye to our beautiful baby. Windcrest had told us he had Parvo. It was impossible the test could be a false positive, and there was absolutely nothing for them to do. As I held my baby that I barely had time to show off to the world, they prepared an animal Euthanasia kit. By some miracle that I will remember for the entirety of my life, the foster family who had saved him called and said no, wait, bring him to them and their vet in north Jersey would do another test and provide him with fluids. Just as Kingsley was about to have his life extinguished, my roommate rushed in from that phone call to provide him a second chance. He has been with us now in our home, happy, eating, learning commands and doggy-smiling for a week. Kingsley brings light into our hearts when we return home from a bad day and provides us with a kind of love that only cuddly best friends can give you unconditionally. After dealing with so much guilt on our part that we put too much trust and blind faith into Windcrest and almost killed our baby, the point is is that we entered those doors trusting in medical professionals. We will never enter those doors again. You almost took our life away, Windcrest. With so many pets coming in and out of there you have to understand that they deserve a fighting chance just as I would. At least the vet tech was nice. Read Less

After moving to DE from CA, I was really nervous about finding a vet to take over the care of my older, health issue ridden cat.  I had one extremely mediocre experience in NJ before coming to Windcrest and was worried that no one would seem as attentive as my former vet in CA.After a few recommendations by colleagues and acquaintances, I decided Windcrest was my choice.  We saw Dr. Wilkerson, who even after receiving over 100+ pages of records from my former vet, seemed very patient and understanding.  He never rushed us and took great care in explaining the plan of care both in person at our visit and by phone when discussing the results of my cat's lab work. After spending thousands of dollars on my cat over the last few years, I've come to expect to close my eyes, grit my teeth and hand over the credit card, however, I really have to say, with all the work done at our first visit, I thought the bill was rather reasonable.  hooray!Feeling confident the princess is in good hands now! When recently moving from OR to DE, my list of "things that I was worried about replacing" was:1. New hairdresser (for me)2. New doctor (for me)3. I was a bit panic-y, having never boarded in DE before (and being admittedly over-protective of my puppies). I found Windcrest online. I'm so glad I did!The facility is very nice, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Since it's a vet office, my dogs got full physicals while they were there. The vet report was the most detailed and comprehensive I've ever received from a vet. In addition, they got groomed the morning I picked them up, so they were fluffy and clean when I brought them home. On top of that, boarding was 1/2 the price of boarding in Portland.I'm no longer worried about the care of my puppies. I will use Windcrest for all my vet and boarding needs from now on. Read Less

Read Less

Dr Wilkerson is great with the exotics and I was satisfied with his surgery on my car, however another doctor pushed 5 vaccines on my dog when I only came in for one.  At that visit, the tech implied I was a neglectful pet owner for not having my dog Lyme and Lepto vaccinated.  5 vaccines (Lyme, lepto, bordetella, distemper/parvo which she wasn't even due for, and influenza which was what I came for) I was lucky my pup didn't have an adverse reaction.  In general, I feel like they push procedures on you.

Read Less

If I could rate lower I would. We took our 10 year old Yorkranian to Windcrest who was having trouble breathing after getting her hair cut at a dog groomer. We brought my 16 year old cat in to the emergency services last night. She had gone blind just the week before and started having difficulty walking, was throwing up and had a seizure. We appreciate everything they did for us. Read Less

Read Less

After a terrible experience at Kentmere Veterinary Hospital, I went to Windcrest yesterday in hopes of finding a better vet. I could not have been happier with our visit.  We adopted a rescue less than a week ago and although he is quickly warming up, he is still nervous around new people (understandably!) However, the vet tech Lisa and Dr. Anthony could not have been more wonderful with him.  They approached him slowly and respectfully and my dog absolutely loved them.  Dr. Anthony was with us for awhile and answered all our questions about our new pup.  I highly recommend Lisa and Dr. Anthony, especially if your pup needs a little TLC during the exam.

New vet (for my pups)The other day, I suddenly found myself needing last minute boarding for my two dogs. Read Less
