Atlas Vet is like an expensive teaching clinic for your pets. We use to take our Old English Bulldog there until he started getting bloody noses and one of the multiple vets we saw told us it was just his allergies and we should just bath him more often then prescribed some allergy meds. We ended up taking him to a bulldog specialist, and discovering that it wasn't just allergies he had polyps in his nose, was losing his hearing.  He needed surgery. I had also asked the Atlas about a trembling in his paw we were noticing. On 2 occasions, very rudely, I was told it was because he was overweight. Nope, wrong again, turns out he had a rare cancer. Unfortunately our loving pup passed away and it was truly a hard lesson learned. I will absolutely never trust Atlas with another fur baby again. It really is a teaching clinic for wanna be vets. Dr Rainey and everyone at Atlas is great. My Westie has liver disease but they are doing everything possible to keep her happy and healthy for a long as we can. After reading the reviews I was expecting a great experience; however, I found my concerns for my dog being dismissed and then ultimately was given an incorrect diagnosis. I have an older dog and understand that dogs can lose their vision with age; however, my dog was exhibiting a sudden onset of new vision problems. I brought her in to see one of the female vets. I could tell right away she was dismissing my concerns because of the age of my dog; however, I insisted on a more in depth eye exam. For the exam, she took her out of the room, came back and said her eyes are fine for her age and that she doesn't even have cataracts. Right away, I knew she had not even looked in my dog's eyes or had done an extremely poor exam. My dog has been diagnosed with cataracts for years by multiple vets.  After this joke of a visit I took my dog to an Ophthalmologist and discovered that my dog has multiple things going on with her eyes, one even requiring medication.  I have also seen them turn away a dog with a bad bite injury. I understand that Atlas Vet does not take emergencies, but the dog was brought in with an open wound and they wouldn't even clean it or cover it. It was absurd. I'm a cat person so I'm biased, but AtlasVet appears to be dog centric; not terribly accommodating for cats, particularly for dental procedures. The staff appeared to be indifferent to my cat's dental pain and was unwilling to provide timely access to appropriate care. Read Less

We are new puppy parents and I cannot say enough great things about AtlasVet. The staff is so welcoming, extremely responsive, and they go the extra mile. At our first appointment, we ended up spending an hour and a half talking to our Vet about everything under the sun and she was not annoyed in the slightest to take the time to answer our questions. I've been coming to AtlasVet for a year now and every visit has been a pleasure. All the staff, from front desk to vets, are very warm and welcoming. They really try their best to make the dog comfortable and happy. Rooms are decorated in a way that doesn't feel too "sterile" and cold. If there were any drawbacks to this place it'd be that the front space is a bit tight. Overly excited dogs can get be hard to distance ones self from if there are 5-6 dogs in the same room. I don't know quite where to begin. From the moment I walked in, everyone at AtlasVet was helpful. We recently moved and our 12 year old lab needed a new vet and a nail trim. I also had my 1 year old daughter in tow. They have a kids corner (whaaaa!) and the staff was so kind to my rambunctious daughter. (She loves dogs and it was nap time.) One angel of a tech even brought toys into the exam room for her to play with. I appreciated their warmth, down to earth demeanor, and helpfulness. As a new mom, something as simple as taking the dog to the vet can be completely overwhelming. Thanks to everyone there, it wasn't at all. Atlas is the best vet in DC. In addition to providing exceptional regular care, we have gone to them for 2 emergency situations and they are outstanding. Our dog who has since been diagnosed with a brain tumor was rushed to Atlas with his first seizure, we weren't even patients of theirs at the time. We ran in their front door and they dropped everything to immediately treat our seizing dog. I start crying just thinking about how caring they were that traumatic day. Since that incident in October 2016, they have continued to provide excellent care. I only wish I could find a people doctor that is efficient, attentive and kind as the Atlas Vets. Read Less

Cherry was misdiagnosed, and treated. poor kitty endured pain for 4 months, all because Jennifer and Matthew couldn't figured out what was wrong with her (Matthew regulars vet for the past 4 years). Took her for a 3rd opinion to Columbia Pike Hospital and Dr. Davis Hall diagnosed and treated her. No more vomiting, and blood in her urine. Bladder stones removed! She went for a free follow up and xrays two days ago, and has been discharged. If you feel you are in the same position as me, please look for a 3rd opinion somewhere else. Our little Gizmo deserves the best and this is the best. They are so nice every time we go in, and despite the fact that he is usually uber energetic they usually get down and play with him and treat him like a king!Dr. Rainey is so intelligent and kind. She briefed us on everything we needed to know as we were new dog owners and even checked in on the flea and tick prevention that we purchased to make sure it was ok. That's dedication!It is pricey so have pet insurance. But your dog will get treated extremely well and for us that was especially important since Gizmo is a rescue and who knows how he was treated in the past. Read Less

When I first moved to the DMV, I felt like I'd made it when I started taking our little three-footed Indian street dog to Falls Road Vet in Potomac. They do teeth cleaning and have great boarding services and were knowledgeable about a possible prosthetic for the dog. A couple years later now I've moved, and I stopped into Atlas yesterday and wow, how wrong I was! Nothing against Falls Road, but this place feels even more friendly, somehow they all got my dog's name right, the folks at the counter clearly love pets, the clients all seemed down to earth (one little girl just came over and sat down with our dog for about five minutes, and nobody thought twice about it!), and the vet spent more time with us than any vet ever has, and our dog isn't even sick! Very impressed. Moreover, they had great recommendations, they called the next day to ask if all was okay after a shot, and they made us feel very well cared for. Very glad this is nearby. Read Less

If you are so lucky to stumble upon the bar that Dr. Antkowiak frequents after work you might possibly get to meet one of the most compassionate, articulate, and intelligent vets this world over, and one with an incredible sense of humor. After a day of patients and pet parents, all with their own unique concerns and questions, you'll find Dr. Antkowiak surrounded by local restaurant owners and bartenders, each sharing pictures of his or her cat, and asking, "are reverse sneezes normal?" You'd think he'd shout, "enough with the pets!" but he just laughs, and provides council. "Is it like this?" and he begins to reenact the reverse sneeze, "or this?" as he makes a gagging sound. It is the veterinarian equivalent of Car Talk. "Okay, it's reverse sneezing" he eventually confirms. "Normal. You should dust more," he tells the owner of the reverse sneezing cat. Kahlil Gibran says, "work is love made visible" and it appears Dr. Antkowiak is living that creed up and down H St. These bar-side conversations shed light on the owner of Atlas Vet: a man who has a heart for animals and also for their people, inside and outside of the office. I live in the neighborhood and recently adopted a 2 year old rescue cat. Basically everyone I know in the area with a pet goes to AtlasVet and speaks really highly of it! I decided to take my cat to AtlasVet for her check up. I can see why everyone loves this vet! It's an incredibly welcoming environment from the staff, the lobby, and the exam rooms where you feel like you're in someone's home. I was sold on AtlasVet on my first visit! Just two weeks after the check up, we had a medical scare and I was advised to bring my cat back in to make sure everything was alright. Everything about how AtlasVet handled this stressful situation was so wonderful! I was offered a same day appointment. Offered and chose to do a chest x-ray, but this was not forced upon me. The staff were all so reassuring, and Dr. Miller made sure all questions were answered before I left. AtlasVet went above and beyond for my cat and me having only been there once before. Hands down, the best vet experience I have EVER had! I cannot sing Atlas' praises enough!Moved here 6 months ago and my crew of 3 Italian Greyhounds needed their annual checkups. I actually originally scheduled with a vet walking distance from my house. But as it turned out, they didn't take Care Credit. Taking 3 dogs in at the same time for annual+HW test+fecal test is pretty expensive so I like to use Care Credit to spread that payment out over a few months. Started researching other vets in the area and unfortunately there were no others walking distance from my place.I found Atlas and immediately loved their fun and bright website. I emailed to make sure they take Care Credit, and they did. Continued reading the website and about their vets and was so freaking ecstatic to read that Dr. Miller had an Italian Greyhound as well! Fate! No question in my mind, was def scheduling with them! I booked over a month in advance so had plenty of time to read all the stellar reviews they have and I was excited to come to the appointment knowing this vet practice was opposite of the norm. I can def see why they are so popular! Had our appointment last week and was greeted by the friendliest staff shrieking THE TRIO IS HERE! They were equally excited for us to come in! The waiting area is like the anti waiting area. Bright colors, trendy animal-themed decor, long comfy benches. This practice perfectly fits in with its hipterish surroundings along H St NE. There was chatter among the office and several techs came out because they just HAD to meet my crew (who are always excited to make new human friends too!)We go in our exam room and it's equally as tastefully and comfortably decorated. Trendy chairs and a big comfy rug on the floor, there was an exam table folded up because they don't like to use them. Our tech, Mikaela, came in and we all sat on the floor together! I cannot even begin to express my gratitude for such an amazing exam experience, doing everything on the floor had my dogs way more at ease! Mikaela was absolutely wonderful! She took their vitals and whatnot and then we waited for Dr. Miller.Enter Dr. Miller who was absolutely thrilled to meet my crew, and they loved him too! He was super personable and it was more like chatting with a friend than your typical cold-ish vet conversation. I can't even believe I'm saying that going to the vet was FUN! We discussed future care, especially dentals for the crew. I know their teeth are bad and I was worried I'd be scolded, but he was so awesome about everything and said we'd come up with a plan together so we could spread out the cost of everything. I really appreciated his professionalism and compassion for my crew!This was just the best experience I could've asked for! I'm SO glad that we ended up here! They are def more on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for... and I will gladly pay for the amazing service I experienced at Atlas. Read Less

Recently adopted two kittens and went here based on recommendations of both friends and the entire internet. I moved to DC about 6 months ago with a cat. After trying a few different vets, I found Atlas. You definitely get what you pay for. The service is top notch. The patient rooms are carpeted with comfortable furniture and there are no metal exam tables. It is a relaxing environment for yourself and your pet. While parking may be a little bit of a struggle depending on the time of day you arrive, there is nothing else to have an issue with. After all, it is DC. I had a vet in North Silver Spring for over nine years when I had just one pup. While the vet was very good and I have no complaints, it was just way too far for me to continue going. I had thought about Atlas Vet in the past based on it's fantastic reviews. Now that I have a second pup, I decided now was the time to make the switch and I am very happy that I did. I started taking my dog to Atlas when I realized visiting a vet didn't have to be traumatic--for either of us. Bella didn't even know she was at the vet's for her first several visits because it's so pleasant hanging out in the "examination room," lolling around on the soft rug until a technician and vet come in to pet her and rub her belly for a while. And when I have a question about Bella's condition, the Atlas vets respond immediately, sometimes just reviewing an emailed picture of stitches to reassure me that everything's OK so I don't have to go to the office. They always follow up with an email or call after a visit, too, to see how Bella and I are doing. It's truly a pleasure to be an Atlas patient! I love Atlas Vet. We have a 15 year old dog and a 1 year old dog and they are fantastic with both ends of the age spectrum! We primarily have seen Dr. Miller but have had occasion to see three or four other vets in the practice and we have been impressed with every one of them. The doctors and staff are wonderful with the animals and with people (not always easy to find both skills!), and they are very responsive to questions, requests and ad hoc calls about specific issues. The physical space itself is welcoming - especially in the city, where large spaces are hard to come by. There is a ramp to make it easy for the older dogs to walk in and a spacious, pleasant waiting room. The examination rooms are warm and comfortable, with soft rugs and upholstered chairs. My favorite part about Atlas is they actually love our dogs! The staff always greets the dogs by name and immediately comes over to play, with treats and water in hand. It feels good to know the attention is genuine. All of the staff are good, but the young Asian/Indian gentleman at the front desk is always the first to greet and play with my dogs (sorry I can't remember the name!!!!). He is also the first to call if an appointment opens up and really takes care of small emergencies. Two times I have called last minute with a sick dog when they were booked full. The second an appointment opened up, I got a call and they got me right in. Also I love the way each room is decorated like a mini living room!!! Had my first encounter with Atlas Vet today!! So impressed from the moment I walked in the door! Kind/friendly people throughout the office, the space is lovely and they have coffee available while you wait. And I didn't wait long at all (took my coffee with me)!! The exam room was comfortable and didn't feel cold and sterile like typical exam room. The vet was thoughtful, thorough, and considerate of my budget.
