Dr. Murphy has assisted in getting our puppy through her  first year by quickly identifying the parasite she had; he knew even before testing. Testing just confirmed. He also provided some shots, preventative care and has followed up at each step. Our other dog is quite difficult to deal with and he and his staff have dealt very kindly and deftly with her when she needed to be groomed; she had to be sedated. He and has staff have also been very available when we've needed them. I highly recommend Capital Hill Animal Clinic. Read Less

Two weeks ago, I rescued my first dog and would honestly be completely lost if it weren't for the amazing team at Capitol Hill Animal Clinic. I chose them because I live in the neighborhood and believe in supporting local businesses, and was not referred by an existing client. I was able to make an appointment before I even picked up my new dog, and the receptionist, Patricia, was absolutely delightful. She really set the tone for the excellent standard of service I have so quickly come to cherish. The staff are all incredibly friendly and attentive, and have taken exceptionally good care of my pup, they even remember his name every time we come in (which has been several times)! After an appointment last week to remove my dog's neutering stitches (which had been done before I adopted him), today, I discovered previously unseen (and undocumented) stitches in his foot; I called CHAC and not only were they able to see us right away, they removed the additional stitches at no extra charge. This kindness has been demonstrated in every one of my interactions with this wonderful team, even when I call with bizarre, nervous-new-owner questions. They thoughtfully and informatively answer all my questions, and, most importantly, they don't make me feel ridiculous for asking common-sense questions. It's very clear they truly love what they do, and genuinely want to help you be the best pet owner you can be. I saw another review that questioned the fees billed, but I have no such complaint. In fact, at our first appointment I was very pleasantly surprised by how reasonable the cost was, especially because my dog needed a long laundry-list of services. He had a general check-up, multiple stitches removed, a second-round vaccination shot, stool sample analysis, first-time microchip insertion, treatment for an intestinal parasite, and a six month supply of both heartworm and flea/tick medication. All totaled I paid $400, which I found to be very reasonable. And again, CHAC very kindly removed additional stitches free of charge a week later (today), on 20 minutes notice. My dog, Bogart, will be a lifelong client. Thank you so much, Patricia, Mia, Maya, Rachel, Dr. Murphy, and everyone at your wonderful clinic! Read Less

The pet care was decent, about what you'd expect. But they were so unbelievably expensive that I will never consider returning here, even though I live right down the street. I took both my cat and dog in for their regular checkups and vaccines only to have them charge me well over 3x the price I paid at my last vet. On top of that, the Vet guilted me into services by "highly recommending" a couple shots and services that I researched later only to find that they were completely elective and not required. At no point did they indicate that their prices would be so obscene until I had waited in the lobby for 15min after my appt and was running so late that I couldn't bear to stick around and complain. This single visit, without anything special cost me nearly $600. They even charged me $5 for cleaning up the (very normal amount of) pet hair after the appointment! Capitol Hill Animal Clinic is one of the best vets I've ever been to. Both of their doctors are knowledgable, kind towards animals, willing to spend a substantial amount of time with you explaining what is going on and explaining treatment options. I have taken my cat to them twice now, once during the summer, when he was vomitting, and the doctor gave me a clear breakdown of costs before I agreed to tests and treatment, and we decided on a good treatment plan for my cat. My cat recovered, but unfortunately, I had to take him back to the vet this week because he was very sick with liver disease and anemia. Dr. Jim was very helpful in trying to diagnose the problem and concious of my budget. He spent a TON of time with me, explaining different diagnosis options and, when we finally figured out what was wrong, different treatment options and he suggested a helpful path for moving forward. My cat got worse, however, and so I had to take him back to put him to sleep. Dr. Jim and the technicians were extremely helpful and caring, and I really appreciate their kind words and their kind treatment of my cat. I recently moved into the area hoping that this clinic would be a good one for my dog. I went in there asking for a checkup on my healthy puppy just to feel things out.The doctor did do a thorough checking out my dog... but then decided that my dog had a joint issue... and needed x-rays. I asked him if they were necessary because those things are not cheap, and he looked at me like I was an idiot for even considering not getting x-rays.I had them done... not once but twice (the doctor apparently needed a second look) which cost me an extra 125.00. Then, he decided that his colon was swollen and needed to be rushed to the hospital.Skeptical, I never brought my dog to the hospital, and she is fine. I will never take my dog here again - I feel that the Vet was simply trying to get as much dough out of my pocket as possible by taking a very conservative approach at examining my dog.Beware.
