My husband and I are the owners of a 5 year-old Catahoula, who was rescued from an abusive situation when we got him as a puppy. His history and his breed's inherent nature means that he is typically cautious and dislikes being around too many strangers. We were in the process of searching for another vet who would do house calls (our last one had retired recently) when his health took a sudden and dramatic turn for the worse. We initially picked CityPaws because it was close to us, and because there was at least one female vet (when dealing with strangers, he prefers females). As soon as you walk in the door, the front desk staff goes above and beyond to make you and your pet at ease. They are super sweet, friendly, and understanding, and come out to meet your pet, give treats, and just generally make it seem like your pet is there for something pleasant. On one visit, when we got soaked by a sudden downpour before our arrival, one of the ladies at the front desk brought clean towels over fort us to dry off! Over the course of our several visits, we saw both Drs. Hamilton and Power, both of whom were nothing short of fantastic with our dog. They were clearly very well-versed with how to put skittish animals at ease, and our dog even liked Dr. Power, a man, pretty much right off the bat! I really like the innovative approach they took to treating our dog, which included the usual antibiotics, but also acupuncture to deal with the immediate problem of stress and discomfort (I was astounded by how effective the latter was). All treatment options were discussed with us thoroughly, and we never felt pressured to do anything we didn't want to. Most importantly, our little guy is back to normal. He has his follow-up visit next week, but I'm optimistic all will be well.I've seen some people complain about CityPaws' prices, and it's quite simple: you get what you pay for. There is no other place in DC I would consider bringing my dog to for treatment, and I no longer feel that we need to pay extra for a vet who makes house calls. This place is great. Read Less
