A very caring staff that go to great lengths to properly diagnose your kitty. Certainly not an inexpensive place but you feel you can trust the answers you receive.

My 2 Ragdoll cats were groomed by Mary on Feb.23rd. Everyone I spoke to at The Cat House made me feel so comfortable. I spoke with Patti, Stacy and Roy. They are my babies. My husband has passed away I am very disabled and unable to brush them like we did when he was living. My neighbors and friends tried to help. Bubba is 16 and had gotten some mats. Patti suggested a abdomen shave. They even came to my home and picked Bubba and Cashi up and delivered them back to me. Roy picked them up and even put them in the carriers for me. They called to tell me that Cashi could not be done because he was so afraid of the noise of the clippers. They sedated him very lightly. I did not know what I could do. They helped me with the problem of mats especially with the 16 year old. They are home now with a shaved belly very soft and brushed. Thanks to the Cat House. Betty WilliamsRead Less

I can't say enough good things about the Cat Hospital. Dr. Louviere is such an unbelievably knowledgeable and caring doctor. I was spending so much money to try to figure out what was wrong with one of my cats at my old vet and never got a diagnosis. Scared that my cat would die if I couldn't help him, I went in search of another vet. One visit with Dr. Louviere and I not only had a diagnosis, but was able to afford the treatment. My cat has gone from nearly dead to back to healthy in a short amount of time thanks to the time Dr. Louviere took to really listen and apply her clinical expertise. If you are looking for a place that truly cares, is affordable, and has superb veterinary talent, this is definitely the place!!! Read Less

My first experience with The Cat Hospital was bringing one of my cats in for a lion cut. They were the only place with ways to deal with a tempermental cat and it went great. So when my other cat started displaying abnormal behavior, we brought him here. It turns out he had hyperthyroidism. They prescribed some medicine for him. What they neglected to do was warn me of side-effects. A few days after taking it, he started to shut down. He wouldn't eat, drink, or even move. I rushed him back here on a Saturday and they took him in for the weekend. They had to give him antibiotics, appetite stimulants, and push fluids into him. It turns out it was a reaction to the medication, that we ended up having to tell them about after Googling. We immediately took him off the meds and he was fine. This bill for all this was around $450. Since then, we got a dog and took her to the Altamonte Veterinary Hospital down the road, with Dr. Larkin. This is relevant as my hyperthyroid cat got ill about 4 weeks back. His hind legs seemed to stop working. He could barely walk and it was at an angle. I decided to take him back to the Cat Hospital of Orlando as they already had him on file. They did an exam and only determined he was dehydrated. They would need to send off for labs. They also wanted to keep him for two days and push fluids and insert a catheter. They brought me an estimate for OVER $1000 for all this. I inquired how come it was so much given his two day stay a year earlier was half that. They gave some fast talk, but nothing really substantial. I started looking through the charges and found double charges. They would charge things like a catheter insertion in a bundle charge and then enter it again as its own separate line item. When I mentioned this, they brought in the office manager who tried to fast talk and showed me a new estimate for around the same amount with the double charges removed, but now a third day added to it. At this point, I said enough was enough and paid them $60 for the exam and left. I took my cat to Dr. Larkin instead. He looked at my cat and charged only $45 for the exam. He didn't want to keep him for any days and said he would get back to me with the results of the blood work. He also prescribed a steroid for his balance. All said, the bill was only $300. A few hours later, they called and said my cat was diabetic and had me come in for a sharp box, syringes, and insulin. That was another $100. All said, this was around $400, less than half as much as the Cat Hospital estimate. It is now 4 weeks later of insulin shots and my cat is doing great. He seems to be doing better than ever and he is 17 years old. My experience was that the Cat Hospital is more concerned about making money. Dr. Larkin at the Veterinary Hospital of Altamonte, has better rates, only charges what is necessary, and will discuss all details of the illnesses and treatments with you. I'd recommend to avoid the Cat Hospital and go to Dr, Larkin instead. Read Less

This is the best place I've ever taken my cat! I called one morning and I had no problem getting through, someone answered the phone promptly and they were able to schedule me that same day. They put me with Dr. Basso and I was blown away by her thoroughness, her kindness, and her love of cats! She was fantastic. I would love to switch from my regular vet and bring my cats here. From the time I walked in until the time I left it was a fantastic experience. The doctor must have spent about an hour with me. She examined my cat, was very gentle with him, she watched him walk (I brought him in because of a leg issue), and she explained to me along the way everything she was doing and why. She even had diagrams and pictures of the cat anatomy to show me. I don't get care like this from my own doctor. The other thing I really loved was they examined my cat in front of me. Some places now take the pets away and do an examine elsewhere. I loved that you could see what they were doing and could stay in the room so my pet was reassured. Needless to say I kept thinking this was going to cost a fortune. When I checked out the bill was less than I usually pay for my cats annual check up at the vet. Dr. Basso spent an hour of her time with us, gave the cat a shot, some sample cat food, and some medicine and it still was less than what they charge me at my regular vet. I was so impressed with this place - wish I had known about it sooner. Patty at the front desk was wonderful too. She just went out of her way to make sure we had what we needed before we left. You can tell these people love animals, especially cats, and really care about them. All I can say is I would not hesitate in taking my cat here - I felt they were great to deal with and more importantly great with my cat. Don't even think twice about taking your cats here - they are wonderful! Read Less

I can't really tell if this place is really any better than the next vet, and I feel like they are nickel and diming us for everything. We have a new kitten, took him in for an exam where he got flea and de-worming meds and initial vaccines (but not rabies).  They charge us for the meds and an office visit.  The kitten is still too young for rabies shots or to get fixed.  They tell us to come back in a couple of weeks for a check up.  Approx. $154.On the 2nd visit, they provided a booster to the initial vaccine, but still no rabies vaccine, and still too young to be fixed.  Then without asking or explaining, the doctor performs an eye exam, which of course is an additional charge.  Approx $55 this visit.   Then they say to come back in another couple of weeks.Third visit, the doctor does a 3rd booster and another does of de-worming meds... and says to do the rabies vaccine on the next visit. Ok.  Approx. $59.So now on the 4th visit... the doctor says they still don't want to do the rabies shot yet.  And now says the NEXT visit they will do rabies and have the cat fixed.  This visit:  $93 (?).A pattern seems to be emerging here, right?  In 6 weeks we spent approx. $361 for vaccines (not including any rabies vaccines) and de-worming/flea meds.  Looking back at the receipts, the charging/pricing is inconsistent (how did we end up paying $93 on the visit the doc did the LEAST amount of work?).That's the last visit for us.  There is no next time for us.  I don't understand why it takes 5 or 6 visits to do for this kitten what other vets did for our other cats in 1 or 2 visits.  I don't really trust these people.  I don't think they are doing any harm per se,  but I think they run the practice like an auto mechanic shop where there's always an excuse to make you come back and spend more money unnecessarily.Overall we learned a few lessons here.  1. We will always look up Yelp reviews on vets from now on (there are 3 other vets nearby with all positive reviews, unlike The Cat Hospital) and 2. If there is ever a future situation involving a kitten, we know now to wait and that taking them to a vet too early is just an excuse for the vet to charge us for nothing. Read Less

We have taken our cats to the Cat Hospital in Orlando for almost 20 years. We will no longer be taking any of our feline friends there. And here's the reason. EVERY single time I call to make an appointment this is immediate dialogue: "Good morning, Cat Hospital of Orlando, Please hold." And I hold and I hold and I hold. Something is REALLY wrong. Either there's a time management issue or extreme short staffed. Upon this typical scenario, I hung up. Within 5 minutes the call was returned. Patty explained she was on the phone with one person, had two waiting and I was the third. "We answer the calls in the order we receive them." That's fine, but this is a typical scenario. If you call them, be prepared to be immediately put on hold and to wait....and wait......and wait. If a business has to put every customer on hold, EVERY TIME then something is being mismanaged. BTW: Don't expect to leave the cat hospital with a small bill. The office visits as well have increased dramatically. I will also post this complaint on YELP. One day, more people will refuse to go back to this place and they will be begging for customers. Read Less

I was so excited to find a cat only vet, but was disappointed in my visit. I wanted a vet that cared for my animals as if they were their own. She seemed intelligent but more interested in the science and recommending the food they sell than my actual cats. There was no warm affection toward my cats. As a result of her not paying enough attention in the exam, I now have to take my cat to get her ear treated and cleaned by another vet and this is going to cost. It should have been noticed by this vet 3 weeks ago. There is no way this much developed in 3 weeks. Very unhappy and sad for my cat that has had to suffer all this time. See picture of orange tabby cats ear I posted. I usually inspect my cats well myself, but we just moved and I wanted to give my shy cat her space, otherwise this never would have gone on this long! This is my first review I have ever done, but wanted to warn other cat owners. I hate saying bad stuff about a company. But my cats are my babies and I expect the very best care! Read Less

Best vet in the Orlando area for cats. My wife and I brought our oldest cat there when she got sick. They successfully treated her pancreatitis. We later found an intestinal mass and had to deal with that. The level of not just customer service but genuine care for the cats they treat and the people who love them is something truly special. We ended up having to eventually put down our baby but they made the process tolerable and peaceful. I can't emphasize enough how wonderful the entire staff here was with us. I probably called Dr. Kempfer once a week for months to go over everything and ask questions and she took the time without hesitation. Their support and care through this had made all the difference. So, after visiting another cat hospital in the Orlando area and getting nowhere, I decided to take Mr. Mean Overbite elsewhere for a second opinion. My first visit to the Cat Hospital of Orlando was descent, I felt as though they made an effort to keep my financial woes in mind as Im unemployed with a BA Degree. That and they gave me a few donated pills for free and were able to help assist in running some tests which was greatly appreciated at the time. Not knowing what the test results would yield, they gave me some pain meds and some antibiotics which seemed to do a world of good. Then a week or so later they called to let me know the test results, E-coli it was. So, they told me to bring him back in. Now, heres where things spiral downhill nothing nice!!! I asked if they had another medicine that wasnt in pill form to help treat E-coli. They injected my cat with some medicine and at the time I didnt even know the name of it. As soon as I brought him home, I could tell that something was wrong. Long story short, he had an adverse reaction to it which caused him to have diarrhea for two weeks straight. Meanwhile I called them to fill them in and I asked them what the name of the injection was because I knew something wasnt right. ***They gave my cat Convenia, but Convenia is to treat skin infections not E-coli according to the drug manufacturer!!! (Though couldve been studied by a third party but still.) Oh and Convenia is known to cause adverse reactions and death in animals, they even have a Facebook page dedicated to it. Granted there are a lot of variables to each unique equation, but its pretty clear Convenia should be taken off the market! ***They told me to give my cat Imodium for his diarrhea then prescribed Orbax for the E-coli. Well, after the first mishap I decided to do some research. While Orbax is intended to treat E-coli, it can be ineffective if given with magnesium, Imodium has magnesium in it. ***So, I emailed them my concerns and questions and heard back a week or so laterdont trust Dr. Google, down talking me like I some kind of idiot when clearly theyre the ones who need to brush up on knowledge and skills at that! ***After talking with the Doctor, I decided to give them one more chance and that sure as heck wasnt charm! I asked for a tech visit to avoid an office visit charge, I get there and I had a couple of basic questions about anal gland expression and a Brazilian shave for my cats rump. After two weeks of diarrhea, and seemed as though he was getting it again, issues with dingle berry syndrome and so forth, I just wanted them to check out his back sideDO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMAL TO THIS SORRY EXCUSE FOR A CAT HOSPITAL!!! ***One of the other vets walked in the room, was so forceful with a rectal exam on my cat, you should see my cats poor little rear end. That and he has been leaking poop ever since, from the moment they put him in his carrier. Now, theres no way to gracefully preform a rectal exam but I saw it myself and if I could go back and cause that sorry excuse for a vet the pain she inflicted upon my cat, too bad its illegal or else Id do it in a heartbeat! Plus, they charged me an office visit when I went in for a tech visit, female dog! Dont trust Dr. Google no, no, no, dont trust these incompetent, ignorant, donkeys! All of the above is sadly true, I am $650.00 deep in vet bills, and theyre not getting another dime out of me for certain! So, if you care about the wellbeing of your animal, Id heed my advice and take your cat elsewhere! Read Less

I first took my kitties to The Cat Hospital in 1996 when I moved to Orlando. I saw Dr. Summerlin in those days and received excellent careAs time went on, I started going to another vet as I had acquired dogs. I returned to The Cat Hospital sans Dr. Summerlin, when one of my kitties, now getting older, went into pulmonary edema. She was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and treated with a diuretic and BP med. responding very well. I didn't have a problem with the vet except that she kept pushing for an ultrasound (US) to evaluate the type of cardiomyopathy. The bill was already huge and luckily I have been a cardiac nurse for years and know that while US can be helpful with tweaking medications, it is not a necessity. Every check-up, I would get a bit of pressure to do an US despite her good response. Much later, all of my kitties, now elderly, came down with a terrible GI infection. Immediately I brought them all in. One had an accident on the way in his carrier and they offered a bath. I waited a while and asked to have him back and the groomer, who was very nice, said he was still slightly damp - I wasn't concerned about that! I didn't want a pretty, fluffy cat - he was super sick. That's when I started noticing how expensive every charge was, including meeds. They all did get better but no clear diagnosis was ever made nor did I get a call to see how they were doing. Fast forward when I found my kitty got fleas from a rescue cat and I brought her in b/c she was not feeling well and I wanted her checked out before putting Advantage on. I hadn't bathed her because she got very stressed during baths and with her bad heart I was afraid of stressing her too much if something was going on. The vet scoffed at my reason for not bathing her and wanted their groomer to give her a bath; I declined reasoning as long as she felt it was safe to give her a bath, I would just go home and do it - her reaction was odd, one of disbelief. I did bathe her and give her the advantage and she did just fine; not that anyone called me with the bloodwork - I had to call several days later and was told that she had renal insufficiency and mild anemia, hmmm. I continued to see this vet - why, I don't even know. I would call ahead to pick up a refill and arrive to find the office staff to have no idea what I was talking about. At one point, her BP medication was changed and the new charge for one month's worth was $50! I asked for the human version to be called in to CVS, this was met with some disdain from the desk but it was called in and 3 mos worth was $6. Close to the final visit there was a check up. I entered with my giant crate (I like my kitty to be comfy) right around 7:30 or 8:00. Up the stairs I went, opened the door with my crate on the ground, kept my foot at the bottom of the door in order to pick up my crate and make it into the office. I come in to find two of the office staff sitting at their desk chatting away without even a greeting. I waited over five minutes and then sat down. I really wanted to say something after signing in but decided against it, what would be the point? Then another person pulled in and was carrying in a crate and one of the staff who had yet to even acknowledge me or my kitty, got up and held the door for her and started chit-chatting with her. I feel that all patients should be treated with the same respect. I was always pleasant, even when they had messed up the refills I'd say ""no problem, I'll come in the am"". I never confronted them or reported them trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, Last encounter, they lost one of my kitty's chart (the one with heart problems). They asked my husband, who was there to pick up a refill, if he was sure he wasn't the one confused!!!! Oh dear God, what happened to this place! That was the last time we ever went in and I had had a copy of the chart made prior to that visit just on a whim - good thing since they obviously lost it, probably when they m Read Less

She is knowleagable yet speaks in laymens terms. we recommend her to all of our friends. Her staff deserve credit too. Most of them know us by name and believe in what they are doing. We wouldn't consider taking our cats anywhere else. For those of you concerned about costs, our experience has been that with multiple cats, this is the best value anywhere. They also have a full time groomer and a boarding facility. Visit The Cat Hospital and see for yourself. Read Less
