My cats have gone to Dr Krane at Calusa for years. She goes above and beyond to help them. She has helped me tremendously in extending the life of my medically complex cat; my cat is so grateful and so am I. Dr Krane treats my cats with such respect and dignity and truly cares about their wellbeing. She is always willing to listen and answer questions; the care is a joint effort. Her plan of care is thoughtful and followed up on for effectiveness. Every cat and dog or other animal that she cares for is treated like her own. The front desk staff— all of them— go above and beyond as well. Whenever I have a question or any type of inquiry, as busy as they are, they always make time to help me. The front desk staff never act as if I am just “another person” checking out or calling. Even while they do not provide direct care, they have such a high level of empathy and concern. The same for the Vet Techs- they know I am very concerned about the well being of my pets and they recognize this and are always willing to answer questions and do whatever it takes to ensure the comfort of my pets. Thank you everyone for your hard work and dedication. Read Less

Incompetent and has to be a franchise based on how they operate. Trying to figure it out. No compassion for a very sick animal all they care about was our budget. They actually asked that. The history is, took my dog there five years ago and they misdiagnosed her. Ended up in west palm at the beat vet and ER in south Florida. My daughter, recently, took her cat there and now she had to take her to west palm. They diagnosed her with constipation and now 6 weeks later is in renal failure. However, she went back there since they had the records and before they would catheterize the car and relied urine, they wanted up front $3800. My niece just graduated from Washington veterinary school and said that is rediculous. incompetent vets and has to be a franchise with the goal of profit and work ethic. Great facility for regular and emergency care...similar to a high end boutique hospital. My favorites vets are Dr. Krawitz and Dr. Z (who is not on the regular roster). Rose at the front desk is amazing as are the grooming services expertly offered by both Brooke and Beth. In this case you do get what you pay for, so don't be surprised that visits cost about 10-20% more than the next competitor and the pharmacy is easily 10-30% more than other pharmacies (and they only allow prescriptions to be filled onsite and through their online pharmacy partnership). If you need an Rx, call the online pharmacy as they have coupons that are not always available otherwise. This is the cleanest facility I have ever been in that houses and cares for pets. If you (or you pet) are allergy prone, you should fare well here. I want to give them 5 stars, but my wallet said no. Read Less

The woman on the phone was very helpful and calmly walked us through the proper way to rinse her mouth out and what signs to look for. She stayed on the phone with us until we were comfortable she was okay and explained that not all toads are poisonous and some just have a bitter slime that can cause that reaction but offered us to come sit in the lobby so they can monitor her. I wish I could give 0 stars. If your pet is having an emergency, even if the next ER vet may be further away GO THERE! It could save your pets life. I noticed my dog was acting off, so as soon as I could I rushed her to the nearest ER vet as it was just after hours and my own vet was closed. This was my first mistake, coming to Calusa. They took us in right away and put us in a room. They took my dog back and a vet tech came and asked some questions. I sat and waited about an hour for them to come and discuss with me what was going on. They told me she had pyometra which I was not familiar with. I didn't understand that this meant every time she had to be moved we were taking a chance at her uterus rupturing nor did they bother to mention this to me. She had already been moved/picked up from my house to the vet, from the car into the vet. They gave me an estimate that ranged from 7k-10k. I did not have that amount fully available at that time between all my cards and my savings, so I wept uncontrollably. Again my dog had been moved 2 times at this point and sitting for an hour for diagnosis and again with me not fully understanding her medical condition. They then proceed for at least another hour to try to figure something out and call other places for me to go. They found another place they tried to send me, charged me $1000 and again moved my dog to put her in my van to go to another facility. At this point they should have know she was dying, at this point the most humane thing to do would to have been put her down, but no they charged me put my dying dog in the car and sent me on my way. She didn't live not even 5 mins after leaving their office. Now educating myself and speaking with several other vets had I brought my dog to any other facility the chances are she would still be alive. After spending almost 2 hours the next day calling every ER vet within an hour radius the first thing I learned is they were charging 3x, yes 3x than what other facilities would have charged for the same surgery. This leads me believe Calusa either just didn't want to do the surgery so they charge way high and they can push me out the door or they simply just like to take your money at your weakest moment. I guess Ill never know which but either way how horrible. Again after the fact I learned each time she was moved, any movement could have ruptured her uterus. The vet knew this. The vet could clearly see how bad off she was. To send someone out the door knowing they are not going to make it is beyond my comprehension. I wish I were in a better position to sue, knowing had I gone anywhere else she would still be alive will stay with me forever. And I have Calusa Veterinary to thank. I will say all their staff was wonderful. You could tell by the looks on their faces how they felt about what was happening. I hope and pray you read this and choose to drive the extra few minutes to any other vet. Read Less

Extremely disappointed. My husband just left with our 12 year old cat who is suffering. We made the decision to put him down and let him go peacefully but the vet refused and didn’t even come in herself to tell him. All they want is $$$ to run tests and more tests. Instead they settled for less $ and a short term solution. This was not an easy decision on our part. Buddy has been a part of our family since we rescued him 8 years ago and to be told to go seek other vets is horrible. Unfortunately I am scrolling down and reading reviews that all say the same thing about money. Next day follow up...their short term solution got us through the night. I came home from work with my 2 young kids to find my poor cat passed away in the middle of the living room. So instead of holding him while we put him to sleep last night our poor fur baby died by himself and laid there all day. The $500 they wanted us to spend running tests would have been no good...he was gone before any results would have come back. Read Less

I love Calusa Vet!! Dr Krawitz has seen my little Mia since she was a baby and 6 years later I can still say I will continue to drive over an hour from Miami Beach just to have Dr Krawitz take care of her. She was seen by Dr Krane when Dr Krawitz was on vacay, and she was great too! Dr Fuentes has done all her teeth cleanings and took care of an abscessed tooth and other teeth issues chihuahuas tend to have and all went well. (She has been put under anesthesia for all teeth procedures which has always worried me since she only weighs 3lbs but she has done great). I love that Dr Krawitz goes towards the preventive natural options Vs just prescribing tons in meds. He really cares about the puppy and their overall forever health. I will say they are very pricy and much more compared to other veterinary clinics but the care is worth it and I recommend having pet insurance, I have used trupanion since Mia was a baby and they have covered all emergencies and I have only paid for basics like vaccines and check ups. Calusa team is great at submitting all my claims to trupanion electronically and I get my refund for covered items fast. Read Less

Criminal ripoff artists! Atrocious communication and outright LIES. No one in the establishment upholds what they say, every single person there will tell you their services are a different price, then when they actually charge you in the end it's 50% more than you've ever been told even when it's been given to you in WRITING! Every time you try to hold a particular doctor's feet to the fire they are suddenly "unavailable" for you to speak to, but the employees can reach them immediately! The first time I used them we had a great experience and actually recommended Calusa to others, the time after that was horrible as described above. Then we heard nothing but horror stories of con jobs from everyone we referred to them! Embarrassing! Employees that attempt to speak up in your defense are swiftly shushed literally with a hand to their face by Marsha, the Director of Criminal Resources at Calusa. STEER CLEAR! Unless you have considerable disposable income and little to no self respect avoid this place like the plague! Shame on you Calusa! Read Less

They took my animal in on a weekend night when no one else was available in South Palm Beach County. They were absolutely an amazing professional team! They are definitely not cheap, and depending on the situation, they are really expensive. It's located in the heart of Boca Raton and they have a 5 star facility so you have to expect to pay more than you would if it was a 24hr pet clinic in a different neighborhood. With that said, the staff was very friendly and caring from beginning to end. I would recommend them and use them again if the situation arises. Read Less

My experience with Calusa was extremely disappointing. Aside from Dr. Sagen Woolery who was extremely friendly and sweet, my experience was far from pleasant. The vet cares about money first and the patient last. I brought my 6 month old puppy in for an emergency visit. After x-rays showed an obstruction in his stomach they chose to keep him overnight on fluids and run xrays over and over again instead of performing an ultra sound, which would have been cheaper than 2 more sets of x rays. The following day I was called my the vet on shift, Dr. Sid, who was extremely rude and lacked any empathy for the situation. He told me Scooby needed immediate surgery, without any explanation, and told me because he couldnt do it right away I needed to drop everything and come get him to take him elsewhere. He provided no recommendations and rudely judged me for being in back to back meetings at work. I was luckily able to leave and get my dog and after taking him elsewhere they solved the problem without needing surgery. They not only charged me for unnecessary treatment, but almost performed surgery that was not necessary which were all extremely expensive. If you care about the well-being of your pet and whats REALLY best for them, do not take them to Calusa. Read Less

I came to Calusa around 10pm on a Friday night with my dog who's had diarrhea and vomitting for 8 days. I honestly didn't think he'd make it through the night due to the amount of nausea and dehydration. Dr. Eugenie Bucher along with Presley, examined my dog and took really good care of him. The quoted charges were no where near affordable for me, which came in around 1800-2700 $, I explained to the Dr. what my budget was and she really worked with me and went above and beyond to care for other small things my dog needed that she was concerned about. She prescribed him about 6 medications and a day and half later my dog was getting back to his normal self. A week later, my dog is feeling so much better and passing normal bowel movements and no longer throwing up and dehydrated. I am incredibly happy that I left Pet PB in Boynton and came here instead. I will forever thank Dr. Bucher and Presley for saving my dog of 9 years because I didn't think he'd make it through the night. If you have an emergency and you're able to do something, even if small, take your pet here because they will be treated with genuine care. Read Less

Business & Healthcare response to adversity- Terrifying. The morning of August 9th 2016, my dog (Whitney Houston) was rushed to Calusa Veterinary Center after showing symptoms of what appeared to be a severe allergic reaction within 48 hours of eating a food product Calusa's vet recommended. Calusa Vet Center was my vet of choice since moving to Boca as they were available late one night for an emergency x-ray so continued to follow-up with them for the routine stuff. In a check-up visit to get a script for flea meds, my dog's skin condition (poor at the time) was acknowledged and first treatment recommendation was to transition Whitney's food to "Hills Prescription Diet: Derm Defense". Desperate for improvement in Whitney's skin care- ordered the Hills Prescription Diet through their online pharmacy which they frequently promoted. Upon receipt via mail, followed the instructions and began the food transition. Within 48 hours of initial ingestion Whitney could barely open either eye and had hives all over her body. Calusa stabilized my dog, confirmed it was an allergic reaction however adamantly refused to accept the possibility that the food might have been the cause. In fact was told there was no way it could have been the food by the vet and rather a bee sting or bug bite. The vet and the office manager refused to make any concessions aside from a discount on a line item. Ironically on Whitney's discharge papers the instructions read: "Discontinue and return Hill's Derm Defense diet" & "Resume feeding previous diet of Blue Buffalo". Whitney was kept overnight and upon discharge the following day she still looked in bad shape and was slammed with the full bill of $893.24 (didn't accept their $80 dollar discount). A day later showing no improvement took Whitney to another local vet who was shocked Whitney was discharged without antibiotics. There was also a skin sensitive shampoo that was prescribed to me as well. I couldn't help but play this nightmare scenario over with the new vet to see how they would have responded had they prescribed Hill's Derm Defense to me (they had it in their lobby display also). Was told that if it was the food that caused the reaction they would have done more or less the same thing in regards to immediate care with exception of the, for lack of better words, negligent discharge. They said they would not have charged me for the care rather reached out to the food manufacturer who will typically credit the bill. Overall- my assessment is this place values legal/risk management over the health and welfare of those whom depend on their care which is the ultimate red flag in healthcare. For dog enthusiasts- Whitney's (JRT) skin is now the best it has ever been now using a limited ingredient dog food formula, holistic treats and continue to use the prescription shampoo and mousse. Her nurse Jennifer who assisted her was so kind and compassionate and was right there to help us on the phone and when we walked through the door at 3:00am. Dr Woollery was an angel from heaven who knew exactly how to treat Lucy and even suspected she had Addison's disease. No one had ever tested her for that even though she has had a long history of gastrointestinal problems. A blood test confirmed it and she is being treated and will now have a better quality of life. Lucy went through quite an ordeal having major surgery but is on the mend and is coming home soon to recuperate. The nurses and all the surgeons are incredible. Worst experience ever, I took my 1 year old cat there because she stopped eating and she was complaining when eating. Dr. Fuentes checked and diagnosed her with stomatitis. He said I had to pay between $2400 -$3200 to extract all her teeth. No antibiotics, not any other option. I left the place with just some pain killers. I talked to 3 veterinarians, and they all agreed about how young my cat was to have all her teeth removed, they all agreed about she just needing a cleaning and some antibiotics. So today I took my cat to a different veterinary, and that's what they did. My cat is already starting to eat on her own, she still has her teeth and I only paid $150. My dogs both go to Calusa. My dogs love the front desk staff, the technicians, and the vets and are never afraid to go through the doors into the building. They happily run inside and say hi to everyone, and then go right to the treat jar. The entire staff, including management, is amazing, professional and courteous. They are all very caring and compassionate, and have supported me through some difficult decisions over the years. As a courtesy, they offer a lot of assistance with insurance and other financial components. I also like that they are a 24-hour emergency hospital. My pets records are already there and easily accessible and the emergency vets are also really really great! We see Dr. Krawitz becuase he is holistic, but we've also visited with Dr. Turkell, Dr. Krane, Dr. Sinclair and others. We are always happy with anyone we see. The hospital is very nice, non-threatening, and super clean. I have boarded one of my dogs there and he is always happy and clean when I pick him up. The ONLY downside is that hey are much more expensive than any other vet around, but I believe worth every penny!!!! When it comes to the difference of a few dollars here and there, I feel the service and peace of mind I get is definitely worth it. My dogs and I love Calusa. I would recommend them to anyone ... and I do. Read Less

The care and compassion at Calusa cannot be matched. Dr. Turkell and his staff leave no stone untouched. I know that all three of my dogs get the best care available. There will never be enough words to express how happy I am to have chosen CALUSA VETERINARY CENTER to care for my dogs. And care they do! I was never asked for upfront payment and I was assured that they would be taken care of whether or not I could afford the cost. Dr. Turkell has been my primary veterinarian, but in rare emergencies we have seen other doctors there. The entire hospital staff, daytime or night, have treated my dogs as they would their own. After a visit for an illness, I always get a call, asking if all is well or if I need more help. Whenever my dogs have needed hospitalization, they were never alone. The entire staff was always there comforting them and just petting them to help them relax and feel better. And the therapy staff is excellent and very caring. Yes, veterinary care can be costly, but knowing this in advance, I chose to purchase PetPlan pet insurance to ease the burden. Having this insurance allows me to never hesitate when I feel there is something not right with my dogs. I just get up and go. And CALUSA never tells me there are no appointments available! I thank Dr. Turkell for helping my Gypsy walk after surgery and for helping my Kona lose her fear of veterinary visits. As long as I have dogs, we will always know that CALUSA will be there for them. My pets feel safe and loved there and I've found them to be flexible on payment plans and easy to work with. I keep going back because of the quality of care, which is second to none. Wish they had a self-insurance plan or an affiliated clinic for higher volume routine cases along with the excellent emergency and specialty care provided. Completely unethical. This vet is not a "vet" and doesn't actually care about animals. Read all the other reviews about how they will let an animal die and have ZERO ETHICS. I wish I had read these reviews before I brought my dying dog to this FACTORY. Zero empathy and are total bullies. There was only one or two front desk staff that had any sort of "care" or pleasantness. The entire staff that I dealt with were nasty and un-empathetic. They tried to charge me $1,200.00 for medicine & treatment that wasn't even administered and told me to come pick up my dog or put him down - so matter of fact, no empathy. No ethics in this establishment. I carried my dying dog off their vet table and took him to another ER vet who actually cared about the animals and their families. I am filing a report with the AVMA and ASPCA as well about the treatment of animals at this facility...that they don't care to let animals die. Read Less

I truly regret bringing my 17 years old cat to this money grubbing place when he fell severely ill on a Sunday. They wanted to run unnecessary tests and torture the dying Animal. I paid $1100 for one day and my cat got worse. They told me he was getting better over the phone. When I went to get him and they finally brought him to me after 40 minutes and demanding to see him he was 50% worse than when I had visited him the night before. I was also upset when I saw him the night before. They shaved his entire arm, without consent, for the IV. His neck was drenching wet with red marks from all the sticking to take blood & all my poor baby did was groan in pain while I held him. When I called to come visit him they played games that it was shift change and I needed to wait. When I demanded to see him they brought him to me in such horrible shape it hurt to even leave him there for the night. All they wanted to do was guilt me into running more tests, bringing in specialist, and up-charge me on what I had agreed to pay. Simply unbelievable what a horrible place this is. They did not do what was best for my pet they kept him clinging to life out of selfishness for the dollar. When I saw my baby on Monday morning I took him to my personal Vet. When I got to TLC my Vet was honest, kind, & caring. At TLC they told me the best gift I could give my cat was to put him to sleep. I would never recommend Calusa Animal Hospital. They made my 17 year old cat suffer for no reason- please do not use them. It is heartbreaking to me what they do to animals they are trusted to care for. I would have paid any amount to save my Pet, if that is what he needed, but what he needed was a kind caring Vet who knew it was his time. He did not need them hurt him by running tests and pocking him with needles. HORRIBLE PLACE They deserve a ZERO STAR RATINGYou should be ashamed Read Less

They are more expensive than other places in the area. What cost me $700 and another $2000 estimated, cost me, in total, $1500 at another animal hospital. Very clean. ZERO compassion for animals.I have been going to Calusa as well as my mom on and off since they opened and of course we knew what their priorities are; first and foremost money, second how fast they will get the money, and third you’re pet. My mother stopped going because they refused to treat her dog since she didn’t have $600 right then and there in the middle of the night when he had a stroke. They were going to transfer him.My dog who had been taken in there a year ago was told that she is over dramatic and nothing is wrong yet I had to pay the $80 visit even thought I did not see a vet.Well today, my poor little dachshund rescue lady who I loved more than anything in the world was at the end of her battle with really bad lymphoma (which they failed to find and could have been saved that year ago) This morning and from last night she started chronically bleeding, puddles of blood. The most horrific thing I ever had to experience. She had bled out so much I couldn't believe she was still breathing. I called Calusa since it is the closest to my house and another vet recommended I go for the euthanasia since my vet is all the way in west palm and I wanted Lady to not have to go through this much longer.Calusa told me "payment is required upfront" I begged for some form of payment plan, they said "you can call the humane society and go up to west palm" I explained how my dog is bleeding to death with cancer and she won’t make it and I pleaded and pleaded and they flat out said "sorry we can't adjust payment"I get how this is a money making business but how freaking incentive do you have to be to allow an animal go through more pain when you are supposed to be the ones having compassion!!!This place has zero compassion! They milk you for money and if you don’t have it then and there they will send you on your way regardless. What kind of people runs this place? I HIGHLY advise NOT going to this place. It's great that you have money to get the treatment and hear the soothing wind chimes, but who do they have their best interest in? NOT the pet, THE MONEY! Shame on the people that work there that think since you make more than other vet’s that they are more superior. Calusa is nothing more but shameful heartless people and I really pray no one else has to experience what I did the last moments with my dog. The last thing you want is people who say they care about animals treat their lives based on a dollar. Read Less

I have never ever written a review before but this place is such a scam that I felt I had to warn others. I have had pets all my life and know that for a lot of vets it's really just a business. I understand that and can even respect that to a certain degree...I mean that's why people work after all but this office just goes too far. They prey on people who love their animals to make a quick buck. I took two of my dogs there and spent over 5k which I thought was ludicrous but they insisted that my dogs were very very sick and this was absolutely necessary. So of course I did what they said. A few months later my dog was vomiting and I took him back. They said he needed a lot of work done ($2500 worth) because once again he was "very sick". I said enough is enough took him to another vet who charged me $85 and my dog is perfect now. Will never use them again. Beware! Read Less

For the sake of our cat we took him there. They did stabilize him and diagnose the problem. After the $500 bill for what they did so far and a recommendation that he stay with them for 3 days at a price of over $2000 for so many unnecessary tests and expense. So we took him home with a catheter and a bag not to they're approval. In the morning my wife tool him back and the catheter was removed by the vet with a warning that he had until the end of the day to live without help (which could have been true). I moved all my appointments for the day and came home convinced that we had to put him down. Both of us called every clinic to get some care but with no luck. In desperation my wife accepted an offer from a staff member to take him from us because we couldn't afford to treat him, then the staff member changed her mind leaving us with very limited options. Emotional exploitation.Luckily we got him into TLC clinic. One night with a catheter with no unnecessary test and a bill one sixth of the price we took him home in the morning with some meds but a perfectly happy cat. Read Less

The staff are nice and so are the techs. Most of the techs are nice and take the time to listen and really seem to care. A few times that I went---out of several years of going there, we got a tech that seemed to be in a rush and I wondered why they were there and their job seemed too routine to them. Once in a while, I saw that my vet or myself had to do the work of the tech because the tech didn't do it in the first place. However, this was an exception and most of the time the techs take the time to listen and seem really happy to see my dog. We have been going there for years and our vet is very nice and I really appreciate the time she takes. She is very Knowledgeable. She always goes out of her way and I really trust her. However, the prices that are charged is way too much. It seems like it is the facility that makes up the prices, not the vets. The person that posted that they charge for everything is correct. When I leave, it is nice to know that I have taken care of my pet but my credit card and bank account are very unhappy and I feel so burdened with the costs. Some things I don't feel need to be charged for (i.e. cutting an animals nails or claws) when there are so many charges on top of that. It all adds up. It seems to be the management (who aren't around to answer to the prices) that makes up the prices. Some people that I know that really liked this office stopped going Unfortunately because of the high prices. If it weren't for my vet, I would would not go here. The office has a lot of good technology that most other offices which is good if special diagnostic tests are needed. If there is an issue going on with your pet and advanced diagnostics are necessary, this is a good place. The customers do pay for the nice buidling and the large number of staff there. They used to have a rewards card where you get a % back on the money you spend for future services, they stopped doing that. Bottom line---amazing vet---high prices Read Less

I have been using Calusa for a couple years before they built their new building. Now....it is a total money grubbing over priced place where they seem more concerned about getting every dollar from you. The staff is rude, the techs talk about other clients (I heard them talking and it wasn't nice) and the doctors don't really seem to care. I was actually concerned that my dog wasn't getting the best care from the attitude of the staff. It is a shame but after the last couple visits and the way I was treated....I ran from there fast and fortunately found another vet that really cares. My last visit was the last straw. I went in for after-hours emergency because my dog was limping. It cost me several hundred dollars of tests and xrays for them to tell me it was nothing to worry about and just rest her. They tried to impress me with their high tech toys and computerized xrays but it was definately overkill and unneccessary costs. My suggestion is to find a place that cares and treats you right and you will find a great doctor behind those doors. Don't get sucked in by a shiny new building. It is a facade. Read Less

Read Less

Read Less

I also have to say that the nurses, techs and staff are extremely special. There aren't enough compliments I could give to stress the Incredible care we always receive. We have used the emergency room, Dr Fuentes the dentist, and the rehab services with the amazing Ellie the therapist and everyone is exceptional. I can't say one bad thing. Calusa goes above and beyond for their patients and for those of you who complain about the cost You Get What You Pay For. It really isn't that big of a difference compared to other Boca vets.

AMAZING!!!!! Dr Sagen Woollery saved my standard poodles life. She had bloat and by the grace of God it was caught early. We almost lost her but she's alive and well. I got updates daily from the incredibly kind compassionate staff members. They went above and beyond for my Lucy. She had the very best care and Im incredibly thankful and grateful for everything everyone did for her. Most of all I thank the Lord for saving my precious baby.Read Less

Without doubt the best practise in Florida for veterinary services and we have tried many of the others at one time or another. The practise is also spotless and a pleasant place to be. We did hyperbaric treatment for our dog and although we were very nervous at first, this went very well and after the first two sessions she settled down and most times fell asleep in there. They are all very caring and compassionate, and have supported me through some difficult decisions over the years.

I began using Calusa in 2004 when my then dog was very ill and they helped save her life at EVERY cost of course. I was grateful for what they did for her but now that I have two new fur-babies that don't require much attention it seems as though they are trying to nickel and dime me for everything, not to mention they have raised their fees tremendously. I wouldn't recommend going there unless you have a bank account full of money that you don't need only because they are very expensive and they don't budge on their fees. Very much a shame because I do like the doctors there, they are very caring but I can't afford to spend that kind of money just for shots. Read Less

Read Less
