I have had dogs as pets since birth, almost 47 years. In all of my years of experience I can honestly say that without any doubt whatsoever that Central Animal Hospital and Dr. Stetzer are truly the very best of the best. They all are extremely caring, professional, highly intelligent and very honest with regards to the care of your pet. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being outstanding, my rating is an 11. I would never consider going to any alternate veterinary providers ever and I'm hoping that Dr. Stetzer never retires. . Just kidding, Animals are family in my mind and the staff treats all their patients and their owners like family. Dr Stetzer and his staff are amazing. He has taken care of all our fur babies for over 20 years. When he moved up North for those few LONG years we were heartbroken, but once we heard he was back, even tho in Boca, we didn't care how many miles we had to travel to have our pets taken care of by him. He is the "Pet Whisperer" of South Florida and his love for all animals is apparent. Along with the sweetest heart, he also has a brilliant mind, and for that we have always been grateful. When our 17 yr old Maggie passed away last year, he sat on the floor with us and whispered sweet things to her, making our most painful moments saying goodbye a little easier. I wish I could give zero stars. This is a joke of a practice I am honestly horrified of this clinic. Be aware if you love your pet DO NOT TAKE HIM HERE. Not only are they a rip off on prices ( witch most vets-doctors are) they ,actually doctor Elliot stetzer had seen my 6 year old male English bulldog probably from March to August about 9 times. My dog was not acting like himself his Nipples where enlarged and it kept getting worse and worse every time this doctor would say something different , first he said that the nipples where enlarged and his breathing was heavy because apparently "he has allergies" complete bulls***! Gave us pills for that and the horror continued he then said that the blood coming out of his private area was a UTI. Imagine this giving your dog pills and giving him treatments for something he doesn't even have! It is just honestly so sad that August 18,2018 , Zeus my dog came again to this doctor since all 8 times nothing was working it was an emergency visit. He even did x-rays apparently and said ok all is fine come back on Monday the 20th to do more work. Probably because he didn't really care , meanwhile it's his job! So we got more pills actually this was for diarrhea now...(as if he was just randomly picking something different every time). My dog passed away the day after his visit here..August 19,2018 zeus was rushed to an actual over night animal clinic he had water in his lungs most likely was cancer the veterinarian from this emergency clinic said that this doctor did not give him any correct treatment and was giving the wrong proscription the whole time. He could have been saved but doctor Elliot stetzer obviously doesn't have a clue or maybe doesn't care about these angels. Well for me I lost my kid , not just a dog! And nothing can take this back ! Zeus was taken good care for so many years and as an English bulldog they do have many issues I trusted this vet in hope he would care for my dog not destroy him! Please do your self a favor and do not come here, it a sad horrific story and I don't even care about the money it's just I lost my companion. If anyone wants more information , I even have complete paper work on all the documents from both clinics I would not mind sharing to help some other animal be saved from this disgusting vet. Dr. Stetzer and his increadiable team have been caring for my son's two dogs for some time. They are loving, patient, caring and extremely knowledgeable . One of the pups is 17 and has numerous health issues. We are always treated with care and a smile. Dr. Stetzer goes above and beyond to provide quality, loving care to the pups and us as caregivers . We are never rushed or pressured for extra services and supplies. The staff has been together for a long time and are accommodating . The atmosphere is happy and relaxed at all times. When in the office his clients all express the same. We are so grateful for the care Dr. Stetzer and his staff has provided to our pups and highly recommend Central Animal Hospital hospital. Dr. Stetzer is the BEST!! He is so loving, so patient with the animals and he's very thorough at explaining treatments and procedures. He takes the time to get to know your pet by sitting on the floor and interacting with them (I think that's so cute). He does not give up on them. Dr. Stetzer is such a peaceful man and very human. My mother-in-law and I have been looking for a vet, for our dog. We went to a previous vet before, however they were not helpful and were not thorough with explaining the situation, the medication, what and why our dog was feeling this way. This last year, our dog has been diagnosed she had kidney failure. Worried and quite disappointed in the results of the last vet, we came to Central Animal Hospital. I must say, this is a fantastic place. The receptionist greeted us with kindness, and were very sweet with our dog. Plus, the wait was not long as well. When we were taken to the back, we were introduced to the Vet. Dr. Stetzer was very thorough with how the medication worked. He even explained WHY and HOW our dog had kidney failure. The previous vet had told us she only had 3 months to 1 year . He assured us that would not happen, that getting her on medication and getting her better could lead to a long healthy life. Dr. Stetzer also did fantastic in answering all our questions, and showing all results step by step. If you need a vet, this is a fantastic vet to go to. All in the end, he is fantastic with animals, and makes sure he bonds with them first before he proceeds. I recommend this with anyone who needs a good, fantastic vet. Read Less

Dr Elliot Stetzer is the veterinarian who owns this practice. He's a solo practitioner and he appears to have 3 techs and 2 receptionists. I knew of this practice because he took it over about 8 years ago from the vet I had used since 2005,  when I moved to Boca Raton. It's not fancy, and the waiting area could benefit from a freshening up, but that's not important. What is most important is their treatment of the animals under their care. Here's some history. I had recommended a friend to Dr Stetzer when she moved to Boca about 5 years ago, and accompanied her to some of the appointments for her dogs. Stetzer was always kind and explained things in an easy to understand manner. He is not the kind of vet who orders lots of tests or procedures to increase his revenue. As an example, my friend had a dog which she brought to another practice and incurred more than $1,400. in tests, x-rays, medications, IV's, overnight hospitalizations. When the dog was still not better I suggested she visit Central Animal Hospital. Dr Stetzer looked at the X-rays and felt the care provided by the other vet was an over-reaction and inappropriate for the symptoms and the x-rays. He explained what he thought had happened and reassured my friend that no more care was needed. As to my experience, I had adopted a sato (look up that breed!) from Tri County Humane Shelter on a Friday and wanted a wellness exam done ASAP, as I had a concern about what seemed to be a cough. My first thought was "oh no, kennel cough.  I called Saturday morning, hoping to get an appointment that day. Melanie, the receptionist, advised me that they were all booked, but could get me an appointment for Monday. I asked her to do me a favor and call if there was a cancellation. I was pleasantly surprised when I received a call from Melanie a few hours later advising me of a cancellation! At check-in , BORI was weighed (19 lbs) and his paperwork from Tri-County was scanned. The  reception desk was efficient. I was shown to an examination room and promptly met by Nancy, one of the techs. When I told her that BORI was from Puerto Rico, she became excited and shared that she was Puerto Rican. I felt real good about that! She spent time with BORI, getting on the floor, and showed him lots of affection. It made a difference. To me, and BORI. When Dr Stetzer came in, he also got on the floor to examine BORI, and was very sensitive and caring with him. He reassured me that his heart was fine and lungs clear, and that the coughing was attributable to pollen and allergens, likely new to him. While he said he could give BORI medication, he didn't think it was necessary, unless it became much worse. He did a fecal exam, apologizing to BORI for the indignity of sticking a collection swab up his butt. BORI was cool about it. Dr Stetzer spoke at length about his sadness about what was happening in Puerto Rico and how many dogs had been displaced by Hurricane Maria, either lost in the storm, or when their owners could no longer care for them because their homes were destroyed or they left the island. He had tears in his eyes. Dr Stetzer reassured me that I had a healthy and sweet dog, and gave me his cell number if I had any concerns after hours. Hey, how about that?  A veterinarian who shows his concern for the animals in his practice by providing his clients with his cell number. Impressive. This office was patient and understanding and gentle with my pets.The doctor got down on the floor to meet my two shitzu's.The receptionist and scheduling department both  explained everything and medications needed in detail. Would recommend this veterinary clinic. Read Less

My husband and I had to put our very old and sick (18 year old) kitty down. Dr. Stetzer was very competent and compassionate. His staff was extremely helpful and caring during and after the whole process as well. We will be using their services for our three dogs and two cats in the future. Of of the vets we have had over the years, Dr. Stetzer is the best. We love the warm feel of his Central Animal hospital with sleeping cats around, and his friendly dogs and staff behind the counter. Dr. Stetzer is extremely knowlegeable. He can seize up a situation quickly and administer the correct course of action. I am so grateful to have found Dr. Stetzer. Not only does he make this nervous fur mommy comfortable, but his demeanor is very calming for my Chihuahuas. I never worry about cost when I need them, as they are very conservative in their treatments and medicines, doing only what is necessary and not performing erroneous testing for exuberant fees. 2 Months passed, $750 Spent while our Beloved Pet Suffers without his medication. Originally our Groomer recommended Dr. Elliot and scheduled an appointment on Wednesday, my wifes day off to bring our dog however who knew that Dr. Elliot did not work on this day since this was not told to us by his staff? My wife took a taxi from Delray Beach on this day because her car was in service and was surprised to learn that there was a fill in Dr. on this day. Although she was upset she decided to let the fill in Dr. see our dog since he was depressed from losing his sister earlier in the week. This visit totaled approx $250 which included 2 prescriptions that were filled at the office. After a week had passed our pet had not improved and rescheduled another appointment myself verifying a day that Dr. Elliot was working. While driving down from Delray we probably pass 30 vet offices on the way to East Boca to see Dr. Elliot and upon my initial conversation with Dr. Elliot he advised that we should discard the medications prescribed in our first visit. Therefore not only did we waist this money but the time that our pet was suffering. After paying another $200 plus our pet started acting normal again within the second day and telephoned his office a few times to discuss with him as he requested but he never returned the call. Weeks afterwards we returned for an additional $250 examination for his heart test and he prescribed 3 medications for his heart condition. A few days later I telephoned his office to inquire about a reaction he was having but again he NEVER RETURNED THE CALL. Now 3 weeks afterwards, I have spent hours ordering the medications with online pharmacies but they have refused to fill them because Central Animal Hospital has not responded confirming they issued them. Finally, I started calling and calling until Dr. Elliiot came to the phone and first ask him why he had not called us back but was heartbroken to hear that he stated, "He never had any messages". I went on the explain that I have not been able to obtain the medications because prescriptions his office has not provided them and he stated that, "I was unaware of this but will find out and call you back". Hours went by and I decided to call back until I obtained an answer but again I was told Dr. Elliot was in surgery. I could go on but the summary is that we truly liked Dr. Elliot as our doctor for our beloved pet and was happy at first to find him but this is another sad example of how poor staffing can kill your business. Concluding his office manager was obnoxiously rude and should never be permitted to talk to anyone in the manner that she spoke to me let alone a client. This is the same woman when I called previously why haven't I heard back from Dr. Elliot she responded, "I don't know why he wont call you since I gave him the messages. Read Less

This amazing vet helped a dog who was dumped on the streets. He was in very bad shape. Many vets would have sent a dog like this to animal control but they fixed him up and found him a forever home. I've been looking for vetenary care with a personal touch. My little Yorkie Suzie was attacked in my home by another one of my dogs. As you can imagine this is a very emotional situation for us. We found a caring , sensitive Dr for Suzie who is making this healing process smoother. Dr Stetzer makes you feel as if there is no problem he can't handle. The front desk is wonderful and all the staff are caring and efficient . My other dogs have been there for yearly inoculations , but Dr Stetzer will be my "go to" for all our vetenary needs. We have been with Dr Stetzer for years, and when he returned to Florida we did not care how far we would have to travel to have him take care of our pets. Hands down! Central Animal Hospital is the best! Dr. Stetzer and his staff are so compassionate and very knowledgeable. I have 4 dogs and 2 cats. Unfortunately, I have had to call Dr. Stetzer on an emergency basis for two of my dogs and he told me to come right over! He and his staff took such good care of by two babies, who had to stay the night. Dr. Stetzer even came in on SUNDAY to examine them and let me come pick them up. My dogs recognize the building when we pull up to his office and get so excited! They love to go to vet! Thank you, Dr. Stetzer and your wonderful staff, for all you've done for my fur babies!! I called this vet on his cell phone that he said I could use in an emergency. I left a message that my sisters dog was very sick and should be seen immediately. He never called back actually never returned the call ever! I have 6 dogs and my sisters have dogs as well. If a vet cannot even take your call in a serious emergency that is not a vet I want on my list of contacts. I called today because my 2 dogs are very ill. I explained the situation which I feel is very serious. They made it so difficult to make an appointment and acted as though they could not care less about my dogs. I called back to tell them I wanted to cancel my appointment and start using another vet and they simply said ok we removed you from our records! What kind of vet is this I have spent over 2 thousand dollars there on the past 4 months and this is how they treat people. They could not have possibly offered to stay until 5:30 a half after they close to see my very sick dogs!!! Unfortunately my vehicle situation is not good right now so I could not make it there before then. The office manager is very young and not accommodating at all. These people need to understand that people have jobs and to close at 5 pm is just ridiculous. I am beyond appalled as my dog could die and their compassion and lack of it was just abominable. I will give this vets the worst reviews on every site possible. The vet is great but getting through the front desk staff is a feat in itself.
