Animal Emergency Clinic of Brandon

Brandon, Florida
General Info
Animal Emergency Clinic of Brandon Inc., in Brandon, Florida, offers emergency pet care to every pet. Through our years of service, we have found that most people are not sure when their pet is in need of emergency veterinary services. We want you to know that you are always welcome to call us if you are concerned.
Warning Signs
If your dog or cat is vomiting or has diarrhea, they can dehydrate very quickly. This can cause a simple problem to become a serious problem overnight. Often, early intervention with fluid therapy and medications can prevent life threatening circumstances from arising.
Our veterinarians have years of experience practicing veterinary medicine. They are qualified to diagnose and treat your pet's illnesses, and, because of this, most of the time you will take your pet home with you in a matter of minutes. Best of all, you won't have to wait for us to locate a specialist to treat an injury when time is of the essence.
Vet and Patients, Veterinary Service in Brandon, FL
Dedicated Care
We understand your pet is more than just an animal to you. Our technicians, veterinarians, and assistants truly care for your animals and we feel as strongly about the care that is given to your pet as you would to one of your children. We take this responsibility very seriously.
When you leave our clinic, you will be referred back to your primary care veterinarian and be given a copy of the doctors' report, as well as copies of the blood work and X rays. We will also fax copies of these records to your local veterinarian so he or she will be prepared to discuss with you the continued care of your pet.

We had visited another emergency clinic first, but decided to get a second opinion here. Dr Cotton was very thorough in diagnosing the issue before rushing to surgery. Surgery was ultimately needed and great care was taken to stablize our greyhound before putting her under anesthesia. I called twice to check on her and both times was given Dr Cotton, not a vet tech. I was called before and after surgery to set us at ease that our girl was doing well. In addition to the suspected blockage in her intestine (LEGO piece), Dr Otero also found a sock in her stomach saving April for a second surgery. The prices were reasonable for the extent of care needed. We are very glad we entrusted April to Dr Otero and Dr Cotton, and will only use Animal Emergency Clinic for future emergencies. Read Less

I had a great experience with the Animal Emergency Clinic of Brandon. I arrived just an hour before they were due to close with concern that my dog had injured his eye. We were seen immediately and never felt rushed. The Vet took his time and thoroughly checked my dog's eye for any issues. He explained everything to me and walked me through applying the ointment. I would definitely recommend them. Read Less

I wish I would have read these reviews before coming to this vet. The only reason we went to them is because the after hours number at our regular vet suggested we call here. After the crimanally high prices they charge, I will be looking for a new regular vet as well. The exam fee is high, but not out of the question for an ER vet on the weekend. Where they get you is with their “treatment estimate”. And whoever responds to these posts... you don’t need to type the can answer where “I can pick my treatment”. We spoke on the phone and before telling me what my dog needed, they asked what I could spend. I should have taken my dog elsewhere right then, but I love my sweet boy and I still trusted they were helping him. I am in the medical field so I started asking what medications they were sending home with my dog. The woman I spoke to was not forthcoming with the meds.... must have been because she knew if she told me it was Amoxicillin I would have never paid $55. I also would never have paid $35 for them to shave a 3”x3” square on my dog’s side and call it “wound care”. Please take your pets elsewhere. This is a money hungry criminal who is guessing about your pets’ health. Read Less

Last night we went in needing help for our 14 year old miniature dash hound Romeo. He checked them quickly said he would be back came back in with a list of things he was needing to do we had blood work from a couple days prior he insisted on doing that plus giving him nausea medicine that was not needed cuz he had not been throwing up anymore we just end up leaving but he made sure to charge us for the minutes he took with him of $85 it was almost $900, we had decided to go across the street to Blue Pearl they were so much cheaper for the same stuff there price was dropped by $200 -$400. Come to find out it was something in his brain that was causing brain damage not his spinal cord like this office said as he looked at me and said this is just something we're going to have to play with to see what it is ill do the intimidate then take him to your regular Vet.As we were leaving he came over to start negotiating the price down while telling us that everyone else was going to be more expensive it's not true he knew what he was doing, shame on him. Unfortunately our decision was to put him down he was non-responsive due to other issues not back problems, but I just thought y'all should know what you could be looking forward to. Read Less

This place is horrible I took my dog here in an emergency because I did not want to have to drive far with his injuries, I payed the huge exam which is acceptable in an emergency. The money they charged to shave a piece of his fur be which if you and left, they should not work with animals if they have no empathy or compassion. This place was dirty. They gave me a quote that was tripled the price than I actually payed because they know when your desperate in emergency and love your dog you will pay. I ended up taking him to Tampa Bay emergency instead. I would not trust that Veterinarian operating on my dog. Worst bedside manner ever !!!Money is not a option in emergency for my 6 dogs ,I always have gone to Tampa Bay emergency but I wanted a place in an emergency closer to home, to try to take advantage of people at the worst time is what I have a problem with. I brought my dog Dixie in because she had been vomiting and diarrhea for 2 days. She was not acting herself and I was extremely concerned and worried, since she has never had these issues before and I am a first time pet owner. I was also very limited on my funds, which I was concerned about going in. I had not realized until after I left that my doctor was the chief of staff, and he was extremely compassionate and understanding of my situation, which I found outstanding since he was in such a high position. He came up with a treatment plan for Dixie, and explained all of the different options I had available to me and explained the pros and cons of each scenario he presented. After telling him about my financial concerns, he re created a plan to suit my pets needs to the best of his ability within my budget. I left with antibiotics for the intestinal tract as well as gave her an anti nausea injection to help keep her comfortable while she was going through the antibiotics, and also to prevent her from vomiting them back up. I am forever thankful for the service provided for my pet at this establishment, and want to personally thank Dr O for being so flexible with his plan for my pet. Also the technician Valerie was very kind throughout the whole process and really made me feel like my pet was one of her own. I went in with concern, and left with a smile and a pet on the road to recovery. THANK YOU AEC STAFF!!!!!!!! Read Less

Let me start by saying, this review should really reflect no stars. Please note, my opinion is for one never to visit this clinic at all- under no circumstances. After reading several reviews, I realize I am not alone in realizing this faux animal hospital is nothing but a scam. The staff appears to care nothing about their patients and bottom line just wants to make money with scare tactics. I was appalled. Let me start at the beginning. At almost 11 pm on a weekday night, my partner and I brought my chorkie in as she was having a seizure. She had an initial seizure and then another in the span of an hour. Once we arrived at the clinic and spoke to the front desk/nurse, we explained these details and she also could see my dog was clearly in the end going towards the aftermath of a seizure. She took my dog to examining room to be checked by the doctor. After what seemed like 10-15 minutes, the nurse comes back to say the doctor saw no signs of a seizure (????) and he recommended an extensive plan involving keeping the dog overnight to perform blood work to attempt to determine the root of the problem. This plan also involved an IV set up, injections, possible medication for a seizure (although later the doctor says again he saw no signs of a seizure?) and anesthesia to the tune of a quick estimate between $901-$1500. But, this is the killer bit-the doctor said he recommended all of this, but in the end he probably would not be able to give us an answer as to why my dog had a seizure. What???? And, to top it all off, again, he said he did not think she even had a seizure, because she was not in an active seizure state at the time we brought her in. We had already explained to the nurse, and now to the doctor she had a seizure over a year ago, however, it was not as bad as the she was having at this time and she obviously recovered. The biggest point is the doctor never explained that her breed(s) are prone to these issues, which a doctor previous to this situation had explained to me. This doctor when asked about the breed(s) and this issue said seizures were not breed specific! We asked if she could receive any medication to make her more comfortable at this point (even after the nurse had already spoken about valium) and he said there was nothing he could do because again, she was not in an active seizure. As he is telling us all of these things, he has no bedside manner. It is quite obvious he does not care about my animal and was getting angry because we would not agree to his money-making 'plan'. We were asking to many questions, and he was pissed. Towards the end of this conversation, I said I did not want to keep my dog overnight at this place, the doctor was clearly perturbed. He did not ask why, he just turned around abruptly to go back to the examining room, saying, 'I wouldn't recommend that.' Curt and with and attitude, he was gone. We were stunned at his behavior. I then knocked on the door to the examining room, and another rep came to the door. I told her I would like to speak to the doctor again. At that point, I saw my dog (the only animal in this room. It appeared there were no other patients) and saw her writhing and shaking. I said to the doctor, 'This isn't a seizure?', and he said it was not. I then asked again if he could give her anything to make her more comfortable, and he said no. The nurse then appeared and said I could take me dog, which I did and then paid the $84 for this bogus exam. The nurse then said if my dog has another SEIZURE I can bring her back and the initial exam charge would be waived, as I already paid the $84. Unbelievable. Thank the Lord, my dog is recovered and we are going to another doctor for a real exam. I remain stunned and appalled by the doctor's lack of integrity. I just look at my dog and remind myself how blessed we are she is ok and we can go to a doctor who cares. This is a truly despicable place. Read Less

We have had to use the Animal Emergency Clinic of Brandon 3 times. The first time was a few years ago when our dog had a bad reaction to a bee sting. They were great then. My last 2 visits both occurred this weekend. The first was on Friday night when my 2 dogs were rough-housing and one of them sprained their leg. When he cried out each time he tried to put pressure on it, we took him to the Emergency Clinic. It was about 930pm on a Friday night and we walked right in and were seen by a vet. After some testing, a pain shot, and some medicine, we were in and out in less than an hour. He's doing much better! The next unfortunate visit was about 24hrs later our other dog started acting funny - she'd spent alot of time outside that day and inside she started swaying, stumbling, and looking confused. We took her to the Emergency Clinic and we again seen immediately. This was about 9pm on a Saturday night. They said she'd gotten in to something and needed to be kept for about 24hr and encouraged me to call and check on her whenever i wanted. i called in about an hour for bloodwork and again when i woke up the next morning - both times the techs answering the phone were AMAZING and took the phone over to my dog and talked to her to give me a live update. I didnt expect to hear from them until about 9pm and to my happiness, they called me around 1pm to let me know she was ready to go home. I saw 2 different vets and 2 different techs on each visit and everyone was completely amazing and efficient. Sarah really was the icing on the cake though and took great care of me (including a hug at the end) with the second incident. She went wayyyy above and beyond and even called me when she arrived for her shift the next day to give me an update on Sam. She's a very special individual and an asset to the business. they are also very reasonably priced and both times i was in and out in a flash which is basically unheard of. the vets and techs took amazing care of my dogs and added a ton of calm to a very stressful weekend. thank you so much for taking such good care of our furbabies! The date was May, 7th 2016. Our cat, Liara was ran over. Yes, upon arrival they took her immediately. After a few minutes of inspection, as I'm watching my cat's eyes dripping blood and hear her attempting to breathe through her blood, the nurse turns to us to explain costs. I understand there is a sign that states that payment must be paid in full before anything is done, however, I figured maybe we could... oh, I don't know, maybe take care of the already drastic situation that took over. Well, I said in a panic, "Look, we will pay but will you PLEASE take her in and at least put her in a safer spot rather than worry about the payment"? To this, she replies (with no emotion), "We need the payment up front". So, here we are trying to see if we can apply for some BS pet insurance or whatever since we didn't have the money. After about 15 minutes, we finally get something and she is paid for. She died soon after. I know that it was likely going to happen anyway. I know that some people are not the best and might walk away without payment... but the morals at this clinic stand behind the money. No money? These people don't care about you anymore. Just how they are. I lost a passionate, loyal and all around perfect pet in this office that day. The lil girl was our pride and joy, and there was little action to stabilize and rehabilitate our sweetie. Hey, at least they only charged $180 to get an urn with her ashes... as if the $1100 that we ended up paying wasn't enough. If you're a loving pet owner, I'd suggest the Blue Pearl animal hospital across Lumsden from this pet deathbed. They don't bother you about pay, they show understanding and compassion. We brought our (new) kitten here to be dewormed. They took her in IMMEDIATELY and asked only important questions. The nurse and doctors loved helping our kitty, and GUESS WHAT!? They only asked for payment after the procedures. I was glad to pay. Goes to show how morals change on the other side. I hope this animal hospital goes out of business... no one deserves to watch their baby die in the arms of these demons. Go F yourselves. I took this long to finally put a review up for you people, and just be happy you guys are still able to run your pet's Heaven's waiting room. Read Less

Unfortunately ,the last visit we had to make a decision to let moose go over the Rainbow bridge. I was devastated at the decision I had to make at 4 am,but the vet completely explained everything to me and discussed and showed me thru xrays and test how he came to the decision that my beloved Moose was very sick. The nurse, what an angel talked to me and answered every question I had, making the most difficult decision somewhat easier, if that was possible. I chose to have Moose cremated ,which they took care of completely. Today,I picked up my Moose and he's back home with me.Did this cost some money,Yes, but thank god this clinic is available. I will always bring my animals there in the middle of the night knowing that I might have to pay..alittle more for a 24 hour emergency vet.I am so grateful that they are there. My sister has used them in time of need, and I will always recommend them. When I picked up Moose tonight, the nurse that helped me that night was there, both my husband and I got warm hugs from her . We went in last night because my dogs got into a fight with another. One of our dogs ears was torn almost all the way through and the other had just a minor cut. They gave us an estimate of roughly $1750 for the two minor suture surgeries! We took them back home for the night, cleaned the wounds ourselves and went to my parents vet this morning (we're on vacation). One dog only needed anti-biotics and that was it. The other had the minor surgery on his ear. In total it cost $446 for BOTH dogs to be seen, the one surgery and anti-biotics for both! Less then a 1\4th of the "low" estimate from Animal Emergency Clinic for the same things and on less surgery they told us NEEDED to be done when it did not. I do not recommend them to anyone unless it's an absolute life and death emergency for your pet! Just clean it up and go to the vet in the morning! Save yourself the money, they are theives and thinks it's okay because they are one of two places open over night. We were absolutely appalled! Read Less

Do not send your pet there! I brought my pet cat there because of her nose bleeding due to excessive sneezing and after checking her, the vet and technician told me was allergies and needed antibiotic shots and medication that will cost me $160 excluding the pet visit which is $80. I was told it was better to let her have antibiotic shots so that she would feel comfortable and not sneezing throughout the night and will stop the nose bleed. So I paid $120 for two shots which I didn't witness them administer to her because she was brought back into the back room to be administered the shots. I brought her back home and less than an hour she was sneezing in the car ride, sneezing out blood in my home. This morning I found her nose bleeding. When I called the clinic to express my disappointment and concerns, I was told by another receptionist that antibiotic shots doesn't work immediately, it will takes few days? What gives? Two different story and I felt that I being conned into thinking the shots will help my pet to feel better throughout the night and now, I was told a different story? I wouldn't go back again! NEVER!

Read Less

What gives?
