If you have the option I'd say go somewhere else. We started using banfields because we travel a lot for work and thought it would be easier to keep track of records if we used a chain. Strike one: I explained on the phone we were just coming in to get a prescription renewed for our one dog and they didn't bother to retrieve our records at all. Strike two: even though we already know what's wrong the vet immediately walked in as though we had never taken our elderly dog to the vet before. Presented us with a 'optional bill' of several thousand dollars for all the tests and procedures they wanted to run, even though we already have a diagnosis. They convinced me that something was wrong and to spend over 1500 in tests for a disease it turns out my dog doesn't have after all. Β I'm only not mentioning the vets name Bc pushing tests might be company policy although I did not have that issue at the banfield in Texas. This place is only interested in every dime they can get out of you. Go somewhere else. Read Less

I've been with Banfield Pet Hospital of Brandon, Florida since my dog was born 8 years ago. I used to recommend it to everyone but, I'm sad to say that those times are long go. I took my dog on Tuesday for a WELL CHECH UP but they only evaluated her according to what they were going to bill during that visit and not for her overall well being. So, when a question arised yesterday, (Wednesday) about a problem and I went back to asked them if they could help the new blond heavy set lady at the front desk gave me a reason not to want to come back to them. The customer service was awful. The attitudes uncalled and unnecessary. She said that because, I decline to pay for extra services prior the well examination the doctor didn't do it. How can I pay for an issue I'm not aware that it exist? The doctor was supposed to exam my dog from top to head and if any health problem was presented at that time she was supposed to at least attempt to inform me post examination and let me make a decision but, nobody did. So basically even if you pay for a well examination YOUR PET will not receive what he is entitled to. When did they stop caring for the animals health and became all about the money? Not wonder all the old wonderful front desk personnel left the hospital! I will finish paying for my dog's well plan while looking for another pet hospital. I need to know that my dog is going to receive the complete care she need and deserves. Read Less

My 13 year old dog was seen here on December 1st for chewing her paws and having trouble getting up. The doctor assumed that it was allergies and arthritis. She administered a $100 allergy shot and did a blood work. She sent my dog home with nothing. The next morning my dog could not get up at all to go to the bathroom and we called begging them to help my dog as she was to large to carry her outside. We were told that there was nothing they could do because her doctor was not in that day. I drove up there begging them to see my dog or give her something to help her. They told me that I needed to drop my dog off (btw...I couldnt get her up) as they had no appointments. (Side note, my dog was dog aggressive and terrified of the vet. It was not a safe practice to leave her alone there for any of the parties involved). As they told me this, the young girl at the front desk made an appointment for a dog at 3pm right in front of me. I asked the practice manager why they got an appointment and my dog, no one would see. She looked at the young girl as if she was looking for an answer and the young girl replied "well that dog was sick." I asked them "well my dog cannot stand, what do you call that. They refused and I left and went home, defeated not knowing how I was going to help my pet. My mother in law called up there for me, because her dogs had been patients there for years. The practice manager was completely rude. Told mother in law there was nothing she was going to do. My mother In Law asked for her last name and she refused give that as well. She finally conceded and they called in my dog some medication. My dog never really recovered, continuing to decline. My dogs vet called my husband and said that my dog was no longer welcome in their practice. She said her staff was treated poorly and that we were screaming and cussing them. My husband told her to pull the tapes from the store. She will see that there was NO scene caused and we were the ones that were treated poorly. Fast forward 3 weeks to the evening of Dec 21st. My father in law called up there as we could not get my dog to stand at all again. She was wailing and crying in pain. She reluctantly agreed to call in more allergy medicine as her paws were bloody and chewed. She also gave her some anti-inflammatory medication. We immediately started giving this to her as she said she was convinced that it was still allergies and arthritis. By the next day, my dog was just wailing in the back room in pain unable to walk. We contacted Lap of Love ( a phenomenal organization) and asked them to come and see her. They couldnt get out there until the next morning. That night my dog was in so much pain. She hadn't been to the bathroom in almost 24 hours. The doctor from Lap of Love showed up and determined that we needed to put her to sleep. She determined that it wasn't arthritis as she was diagnosed with, but something like severe bone cancer or degenerative disc disease. These were things that should have been detected by our vet. My dog had been chewing her paws because she was in excruciating pain....Not allergies!! These doctors are in such a hurry to move them in and move them out, they mis-diagnose animals and they die! I will never bring another one of my animals to this place. Read Less

I have been to several banfield location's and this one does not do the name justice. I have had 2 animals on the insurance plan for almost 4 years and until my most recent visit they were going to stay on it. I brought my GSD in for her annual visit, to get trifexis and to talk about a lump I had found on her neck. They immediately took her in the back, which I was fine with and appreciated the speedy visit, to do a fecal, etc. When the vet comes in I start to inquire about this lump on her neck. The first question isn't about her lump but about which plan I am on. I tell her the basic one and am advised to bump her up to include dental so she can get her teeth cleaned, they would do the blood work while she was under and asperate the lump. Fine. I get a call to confirm the dental cleaning and was asked if I had any other questions. I bring up the lump and asperation, again seeing as how this is my main concern. She said she would make a note. Surgery day is here and I sign in and document once again in the notes about the asperation on my sign in paperwork. I am told that the asperation is 73 dollars by the receptionist who was extremely unpleasant, didn't even greet any of the dogs or myself. I said that's fine but that's not what I was told. She said she'd have the vet call me when she got in. Before I left the parking lot I get a call from the vet tech who was the same tech who examined my dog and reiterates the cost and I say that's fine, prep her for her cleaning and asperate the lump. 2 hours later my dog isn't even prepped and I am told a totally different story. Asperation isn't an option, says the vet tech in a way that implied this was the case all along and goes on to outline 2 different options ranging from 130 to over 250. Now I'm fed up. Clean her teeth and don't touch anything else. Fast forward to today and my dogs lump is completely gone. Had this idiot vet even looked at my dogs lump she would have deduced that it was a spider bite, give her a steroid and antibiotic and have it gone in 3 days. This clinic is deplorable and I do not get a caring vibe from any of the staff. I am ending my banfield contract and will never recommend this banfield to anyone. Go to the one on causeway where they are so warm and caring or the one on hillsborough. Both truly show what a caring office is supposed to look and feel like. How dispicable you all are for not caring and making sure I upgraded to your precious plan to take my money, but leave my dog ill. Read Less

I have an aggressive dog who needs to be put asleep when getting his ears cleaned and nails cut. I have been going to Banfield in my home state for 6+ years and they had no problem putting him to sleep without a muzzle. I explained to them that the dog will not let you put a muzzle on him. They basically refused service to me and tried to offer my dog alprazolam to make him woozy and expect me to lift a 100+ lb dog into my car. The staff does not listen to you when you tell them why pills will not work. The doc also said I am sorry we have done this before but we don't want this to be the dogs first experience with us WTF are you talking about lady?? If you work in this field and a dog needs to be put under so that his ears can be cleaned you do it not worry about his first experience with the new Banfield location. Then after saying they were out of the medication to put him out and wasting 2 hrs in the office. They basically said sorry do you want to try alprazolam? Had to walk out called the other Banfield down the street they said the would help knowing they couldn't put a muzzle on him? Never will I go to this Banfield again! Read Less

(even though she had nothing open and two doggies who came in with emergence surgeries) It turns out our new doggy was very sick. Beware!! This ban field has got to be the most awful and disrespectful vet I have ever taken my dogs to. If you can avoid this place, avoid it! They don't care about you or your animals. I was talking with a "Shift Lead" as her name tag mentioned, and her name was Tiffany. My dog had just turned 8 months TODAY and she was denying me her heart worm preventive medicine called Triflexis. She said once they are 8 months they need to schedule an appointment before any further Triflexis can be given. I asked for a copy of that policy and she said "you can go find it on the Internet". Extremely disrespectful, they are not there to help you, just to take your money! She told me I could do an appointment right now, but that wait time could be a couple hours, possibly longer. I visited another location of banfield and had a terrible experience. I figured I'd give this one a shot before I gave up on Banfield. My dog is a rescue, and has a terrible fear of the vet. He did get aggressive, but the vet at the other location was just mean and cruel to my dog, instead of trying to be understanding. When I went to this location I explained the situation. Two vet techs trying to get the dog to be comfortable. They sat on the floor with him giving him "cookies" and trying to make him feel safe. They were very patient and also great with explaining why he might be acting how he was. They administered his booster vaccine, but he needed a skin scrape test, which he would have been unable to get due to his fear. They gave the option of medicating him before the next visit to make him calm. They were very friendly, patient, and knowledgable. I felt like they actually showed concern for the dog and weren't just annoyed at the fact that he wasn't calm. When he was brought back for the skin scrape test by my fiancΓ©, they were able to do the test and tested more than one location to make sure they got the right result. I'm much happier with the care at this location. Read Less

Despite some of the reviews I have read, I recently brought my two pets to Banfield. The service we received was timely and professional. Checkout is a bit nightmarish but other than that the experience was good. I came to move to Banfield after our current vet decided to raise prices above most other providers. I appreciated how the vet called back to confirm routine tests that were run as a part of their wellness plan were ok. Nice touch. So, although I am new to Banfield, so far so good. :) Read Less

I will never use Banfield again. They clearly do not care about their clients, or their furry friends. Last November, the week of Thanksgiving, my cat started acting strangely. He wasn't eating his food, he was very clumsy, he was meowing constantly, all things that are clearly outside of his normal behavior. In an effort to see what was going on I took him to Banfield Pet Hospital. After observing him for roughly thirty minutes, she gave a list of tests she recommended to get more definite answers. I could not afford all of the tests, so they suggested I sign up for their program where you pay per month. (Like insurance for pets, but they can't technically call it insurance since they are not agents.) I agreed, and he was taken back for quite a few tests, one of them being a urinalysis to check his urine for irregularity. After his tests they couldn't come back with any results, only a response of ""it might be a tummy infection"". They sent me home with medicine for him to help him urinate or have a bowel movement, as he hadn't had any in two days to my knowledge. After we left he wasn't using his back legs at all, which I thought might have been from some poking and prodding they may have done near his rear when giving him tests. I made a mental note to monitor it. The next day was Thanksgiving. He still was not using his back legs, and I eventually had to start force feeding and watering him so he could have something in his stomach for his medicine. He was very weak all day long. Late that night I had him cuddled up in a blanket with me. We both fell asleep in a chair. When I woke up the blanket was soaked, as well as my jeans. When I went to my room to take off my jeans I noticed, since the inside part of my jeans was lighter, that it was red from blood. I took him to an emergency vet nearby, who took tests and examined him to come back and tell me his kidneys were failing. The vet explained that Banfield SHOULD have seen that his kidneys were failing from his urinalysis, and that the medicine they gave actually sped up the process of his kidneys failing. I lost my little boy the day after Thanksgiving, no thanks to Banfield. To make matters worse, even though it was a day after taking him in to their vet services, they still wouldn't let me cancel the payment plan unless I shelled out the $500 for all the tests they did. They wouldn't even let me transfer it to my other pet. Never will I ever recommend Banfield to anyone. What a terrible company they are. Read Less

Read Less

We called 7 different Vets in our area(including the one she had an appointment with) and couldn't get our new baby in any where. FINALLY Dr. Bartlett said she would squeeze her in. (even though she had nothing open and two doggies who came in with emergence surgeries) It turns out our new doggy was very sick. After all the staff did to just see my puppy, how loving and gentle the nurse and Vet was with her and how nice and honest they were with me, I knew this was the place I would be taking my puppy to from now on. Stay away from this place if you want to keep your pet happy and healthy, and yourself!Read Less

Read Less
