I feel like they do not care about your dogs well being and only care about your money. My dog developed an esophageal stricture after a tooth extraction/cleaning that was performed at this location. She got to the point where she could only eat watered down wet food, everything else she would regurgitate. I tried calling this office several times and no one would answer the phone. When I finally did get an answer, I explained what's going on to the girl at the front desk. Her response was "Think about it...if you had a tooth pulled, you would have problems eating too." Really? A couple of days later, when the symptoms continued to get worse, I decided to go to a different vet to get a second opinion. I'm so glad I did. It was at this vet's office where she got a diagnosis. I ended up taking her to a specialist and, $5,000 later, she is back to about 80% meaning she can eat kibble after it's been soaked in water. She is only 4 years old and had 1 tooth extracted. She had zero issues before the dental procedure. I called Banfield, they did not care. The office manager, Casey, did not once ask how my dog is doing. All he cared about was getting the money for the dental procedure when I said I want to cancel my plan. I told him I want to cancel the plan because I no longer want to use their services. He refused to let me cancel the plan unless I paid $600 (I don't remember the exact amount) for the dental procedure...the same dental procedure that caused the $5k problem. My options were to pay the $600 now or continue paying the monthly fee through December with three months worth of fees being waived. Read Less

i have been bringing my pets(dogs and cats) here for over 10 years. I have one dog who is a special needs dog. She has physical deformities which make it impossible to walk. I brought to her to this location this morning as I do believe she has an upper respiratory infection. I was informed that she was drooling(really?) and limp. She can't walk... she isn't limp. I was told there were no vets there until 10am and they didnt want anything to happen to her before then. Well it's almost 1pm and she's still breathing...with some difficulty. I will be cancelling my plan when it rolls over in May. This place is not the only vet in town. Read Less

I want to warn others that this Pet Hospital is not kind to animals. I took my dog to his check up and asked that his nails get grinded down since that is how I prefer to keep them short. My poor dog became their next victim when an incompetent individual decided to butcher his paws in a poor attempt to shorten his nails. You would think the Vet would try to make it right l, but instead she supported the Vet Tech and the Vet told me his nails are black so they are hard to see where the nail bed begins... then told me the reason he is bleeding is because he is anxious and has an elevated blood pressure.. NO NO NO he doesn't bleed from blood pressure he bleeds from cutting into MULTIPLE nail beds. I would understand a mistake on one... let a mistake on one nail guide you for where to cut the rest..but this hospital feels its fine to hurt your animals and have no consideration to make it right. The vet only offered me to notate my dog's file or a free nail trimming on a future trip... as if I will ever let these cavemen and cavewomen touch my dog again. You are SUPPOSED to be a professional and you have proven to me you aren't capable of caring for someone's beloved pet. Take caution going to this location, there are plenty of better choices near by that will show your pet the love it deservesRead Less

Sad...bad customer service! We have been going to Banfield Pet Hospital all over the country. This location has given us a bad experience. We had an appointment at 1800 on the 5th of May 2017, running a little late at 1807 we were told we would have to reschedule. After talking with a receptionist we were told it was Dr.Ashley Adair Duvall that made this decision. How pathetic that I put my furry family member through the anxiety of going to a Vet first of all, then to be turned away. We buy all our pet food, and all other pet supplies from Petsmart. We now feel both brands of Petsmart and Bandfield Pet Hospital have chosen to turn away what was a loyal life long customer. I understand scheduling...I also acknowledge customer service. For 7 minutes Dr.Ashley Adair Duvall made a choice that it would put her behind 7 minutes and that they close at 1900 with only one appointment behind us. Our working animal is due for utd shots. We asked for all our records in which nobody seemed to care! We received a call from a Nikkie at 1904 stating she was the office lead and how can she make it better. I say this Ms.Nikkie, your call to us came after we had left and was back home almost an hour later. It was under your watch? Your receptionist that did not care the least, your Vet Dr.Ashley Adair Duvall that mentioned you close at "7pm" did not care but yet your corporation found time to call us after hours? The 4 minutes you stayed to try to do damage control could have been avoided at the time we were there. Was it once realized we asked for our records? What gave you the impression a hour later that could have been resolved at the time of our appointment? We have waited numerous times after our scheduled appointment after checking in between 10 and 20 minutes to be seen by the Vet. ...7 minutes cost a lifetime customer at Petsmart, 7 minutes cost a lifetime patient at Banfield Pet Hospital. Bad customer service. If I could give less than 1 star I would...thank you Read Less

I have been taking my dogs here for the past 3 years. I highly recommend Dr. Manning as a veterinarian, she was born to do this job. Her compassion and love for animals is more than apparent and the staff at this facility are top notch. I have lost several pets and have had nothing but kindness and unbelievable understanding. Dr. Manning goes out of her way to do anything to help your pet and to help you as well. I currently have 5 animals that are all on the Wellness Plan, which really helps financially. If you are looking for an exceptional veterinarian then Dr. Manning is the way to go. To find a veterinarian who you can trust completely is very difficult, and I completely trust her judgement. Something has definitely changed here in the last year or so. I don't know if they were bought out, or if they've just had a lot of staff turnover.... I haven't figured it out, but I definitely notice a difference with Banfield... and it isn't a positive one.My first and foremost concern is that I can never even get them on the phone. This is concerning on two levels:1) My dog is VERY prone to ear infections, and he needs to see a vet when this happens (because the medication he needs is not given without a prescription.) It's hard to get him in to see a vet when you get the answering machine 8 times in one day. Even after leaving messages, no calls back.2) My dog is also a vaccine reactor. (Severe total body swelling when certain vaccines are administered without Benadryl.) Which means that when he IS at the vet, I worry about him and whether he'll have a reaction. I usually call once or twice to check on him during the duration of his vet visit. It's frustrating when all I'm trying to do is find out if my dog is okay, and I get an answering machine. Again, no calls back either.I used to recommend Banfield to anyone who asked, but now I am not even sure I will be renewing my dog's wellness plan in January, which is unfortunate because he's been a Banfield patient for five years (since he was 3 months old.) It's the only vet office he's ever known. Read Less

I loved Banfield in Independence, MO. This one is not good. They are WAY to busy to give the care us pet parents want for our pets. So far my experience with the vet and vet tech has been good, but the front office staff are swamped. I called two times to have my pet's vaccine records sent to a place we are using for boarding and neither time did they follow through. Every time I go over to their office the staff are too busy - too many phone calls, too many customers to help. By being so busy they are unable to pay attention to what they are doing enough to do it correctly. Not happy and will most likely NOT be renewing my membership. Banfield Corporate needs to give serious kudos to the Independence office and make some serious changes to this Brandon office. Read Less

Loved,Loved,Loved this Vet. My husband just got a puppy and we found out that she had worms five days before her first Vet appointment. We called 7 different Vets in our area(including the one she had an appointment with) and couldn't get our new baby in any where. FINALLY Dr. Bartlett said she would squeeze her in. (even though she had nothing open and two doggies who came in with emergence surgeries) It turns out our new doggy was very sick. After all the staff did to just see my puppy, how loving and gentle the nurse and Vet was with her and how nice and honest they were with me, I knew this was the place I would be taking my puppy to from now on. I took my first pet cat to this doctor because of the close location to my job. It is conveniently located in the pet store so while waiting you can browse the store. We had just rescued a small kitten and had no idea what to expect for caring for a cat. The only downfall I have is that my appointment was at 5:30p and I didn't get out until 7:30. The vet and her assistant were very kind and helped my choose the best plan for our new pet. She answered all my questions on what to feed him and the best treatments for him. I have been using banfield for a while with my cat and previous pets because I like the ability to have a monthly payment plan using their wellness plans. I made an appointment from my newly adopted dog at this location, so I could have him checked out and make sure he had all necessary vaccines. I arrived with my dog and was brought into an exam room. The vet tech that came in was very nice and friendly with me and my dog. She pet him on the head and I asked her questions about the differences in the plans. She then said she was going to take him in the back for bloodwork. He was reluctant to go, but eventually did. I heard him yelping, so as a concerned pet parent I glanced through the glass on the door to see what was going on. There was a lady sitting bCk there giving me a dirty look as if I shouldn't be looking. I saw three techs with my dog, but one was petting him to calm him down, so I felt a bit more at ease. The tech brought him back in and then the vet entered (the lady glaring at me from the other side of the door). She leaned over from the chair to loon at my dog and he got scared. He was barking and growling and was hovering close to the door - clearly not just being a mean aggressive dog, but one that was scared. The vet, dr. Dowling, was quick to yell at my dog, which I thought was odd, but since the dog was aggressive and she was a vet I waited patiently to see what would transpire.I explained that although I didn't have him long he's been around several people and a dog park and has not shown one sign of aggression - he's a rescue and maybe he's just scared. She didn't seem to care and was still raising her voice at the dog saying she won't tolerate this behavior for no reason and she tried to pull him closer to her with his leash. 1. There's obviously a reason he's acting like this and 2. Why would u pull on a scared dog who's resisting. Dr. Dowling was unable to examine my dog but was able to give a quick vaccine while I blocked his line of vision. She THEN informed me that aggressive dogs weren't normally able to be put on plans but she would try to work with him. If only I was informed this BEFORE they did $300 bloodwork that I would wind up being responsible for. She said I should bring the dog for happy visits - bring he dog in, he comes in a room, gets treats, and then leaves. This should help calm his fear. I thought this was a good idea so I called to make an appt for this. The girl who answered the phone went to ask dr Dowling what I was talking about and I was then informed that I would have to calm in the morning and they would tell me when to come in. So basically everyday I'd have to check if this is okay - like I'm at home all day with no job or no responsibilities.I am super disappointed with how impatient the vet was with my dog - probably increasing the fear he already had of vets. I am also disappointed with how I was told I might not be eligible for a plan only after testing was done that I would have to pay for. I decided I would try a different pet smart and if I had the same issue I would just cancel my plan and eat the charges. My dog deserves better care than this, so it would be worth the cost to et rid of such uncaring vets. Read Less

BEWARE - Do not see Dr. Merkel at the Causeway location.  I come from a long history of working in veterinary medicine, (over 10 years) and I have never met a vet as unprofessional and careless before as Dr. Merkel. I don't normally do this and make a bad review for someone, but knowing that this is happening every day at this organization is un-nerving and should be stopped immediately.  Her bedside manner is appalling.  She is condescending, inconsiderate of your time, and does not explain treatments regarding the care of your animal thoroughly.  She will tell you she has many other pets under her care that are just as important if not more, than your animal.  She does not answer or address questions in a professional manner, she has a sarcastic tone with her responses, where the care she is providing is not thorough and I will never allow my animal to be under her care again.  If I hadn't worked at Banfield at one point in the past, I would walk away from this experience and never come back.   If this location is convenient for you, see a different doctor other than Dr. Merkel.  She should be provided coaching on speaking with the public or fired for representing this organization so negatively.  The date of this review is 7-1-2014 Read Less

I visited Banfield three weeks ago after receiving an offer for a free office visit in the mail.  I have to say I was very confused about the purpose of this place.  The doctor and nurse were very knowledgeable about the pet care aspects and knew the answers to all my questions but, at every turn they were trying to sell me something.  The man that checked me in tried to sell me a care plan the nurse then tried to sell me the same thing.  Then after meeting with the veterinarian she tried to sell it to me.  I went there to have my dog checked and get his medicines not for a sales pitch. I understand that Petsmart probably pays them commission for the number of plans they sell but there has to be a limit to how many pushes you give.       I ended up paying $252.00 for office visit, three vaccinations, stool test, and flea medicine. I had an appointment for a booster shot.  When they called to confirm I asked if I would have to pay the office visit for the shot.  The woman on the phone said yes, "it was another $40.95 plus $14.95 for the shot." so I said, "cancel my appointment and I won't be coming back."  I will find a professional veterinarian that doesn't work for a retail store and try to sell me an overpriced under serviced plan that i don't need.       My recommendation, go to a private veterinarian that owns there own office at least then you will know they are doing the work to pay there own bills not that of a place like Petsmart. Going to a place like Banfield Pet Hospital is a sad trap for people who aren't aware of affordable vet care. Right off the bat, Banfield will not accept CareCredit (which many pet owners have to help pay for vet costs) unless you spend at least $250 at their facility. But fear not, simple labs will cost you around that much if you choose this location for your veterinary needs. As a long time pet owner, I fell into the trap of Banfield when I became responsible for owning my own pet as an adult, because of their Pet Insurance plans which you are forced to digest every single visit you dare to spend with them. They sell you on Iams and not Blue Buffalo, they upsell you on the pricier brands when feeding your pet instead of offering something of value, such as Royal or A/D (all of which are available, I might add, right in the store they're set up in). Their vet techs are condescending, snide and prideful in telling you that you are not a great pet owner if you are worried about the cost of care for your pet. They do not show much sympathy and are quick to order the most inclusive labs even for something that is asymptomatic. I would not suggest Banfield to anyone. If you live in the Brandon, FL area, I suggest that you look elsewhere (seriously, anywhere. You'll be paying so much less than you would here for more compassion, better care and no upselling!) I like how everyone knows my dogs. My dad or I always take my dogs to get check ups at least once a month and to get their toe nails clipped, considering I pay $40 a month for the one dog for medical and dental, and $30 for medical for the other dog. It kind of makes me laugh because my health insurance costs the same amount. For the dental coverage, my dog gets his teeth cleaned once a year. They put him down and they are able to thoroughly clean his canine teeth. My dad says they also cut his nails at this time and it's really short because they put him out.The only thing about the vet services is sometimes they ask you for permission to do an expensive service that is most of the time unneeded, so you have to deny it or ask for other alternatives. For example, my dog was limping and they said that the orthopedic surgery was not covered and it was going to cost me at least $2500. I said let's try medication first then if that doesn't work then go with the x-ray that's more affordable... and the vet agreed. Luckily, the medication is working. Another thing I like about Banfield is that it is easy to make appointments, whether they are emergency or not.  I like doing the room appointments better so I won't have to drop off and pick them up again, but it does take longer. In addition, they call your house to see how your pet is doing. It's funny because my doctors don't even do that!! Read Less

Dr. Manning goes out of her way to do anything to help your pet and to help you as well. I currently have 5 animals that are all on the Wellness Plan, which really helps financially.

Read Less
