If you really love your pets, don’t take them here! Dr. Alexander, who is the owner of this place, is very incompetent. Last week, I took my dog with a critical bloated stomach, after taking 2 Xrays, she couldn’t tell the difference between being pregnant or something else. She charged an unnecessary and outrageous $307 pregnancy test. The next day, we went to a different vet and my dachshund ended with a surgical emergency due to Pyometra (a serious and potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus). Two days after the fact, they called me for a negative pregnancy result. I’m not a vet but I can assure with a 100% certainty that those 2 Xrays showed no sign of pregnancy at all. Read Less

I'm so glad I found this clinic, and crying as I write this review!  Just took my sweetest baby to Dr. Kerr this morning after she stopped eating.   I had little hope, as I know she has terminal kidney failure.  I was given such amazing reviews of him by my employer and her neighbor who said he was THE BEST.  Well they weren't lying.  Initially I had taken my girl to Viscaya Prado, which were the rudest, most uncaring and unprofessional people I've ever dealt with. After giving me the news of her results, they didn't give me any options for home care, except some antibiotics and a bunk phosphate binder.  Which I found out today they told me the WRONG way to administer the binder to her.  So it was doing nothing to help her for nearly 2 months.  After googling for weeks, and thinking I was doing the right thing, she stopped eating.  Not wanting to wait it out, as animals with this condition cannot afford for you to wait, I called Dr. Kerr's office first thing this morning and asked if there was any chance of me getting in.  The receptionist put me on hold to ask the Dr. as he had several surgeries scheduled later in the morning.  But he said I could come in!  He was extremely caring, so much so that I was literally in shock.  He didn't sugar coat anything and gave it to me straight.  My dog is terminal and at the worse spectrum of her disease.  However there are several options for treatment I can do at home.  His awesome tech's showed me how to administer fluids.  They gave me several meds to help her feel better.  Also told me to start her on prescription diet and get an otc phosphate binder that I can literally get at Walgreens. I know that with this diagnosis the outcome is bleak, but now I have at least a small glimmer of hope that my baby will, at the very least, start feeling a little bit better.  Anyhow, that is my two cents about this animal hospital.  They are the MOST amazing, and I've been to several of the so called "best in town".  I made an appointment to bring my other two girls to see him Monday.  They will be seeing a lot more of me in the future :)  Thank you SO much everybody! Awesome Animal Hospital. Santabarbara Animal Hosptial gave me the closure I needed when my cat unexpectedly passed in the care of Kindness Animal hospital. Kindness Animal Hospital is TERRIBLE! Do NOT trust them. Paid almost $1,000 to be told my Pure Bengal Cat Chloe (over a $2,000 cat) would survive a parasite issue. Less than 2 weeks of watching her suffer, she passed. Took them over 3 business days to call me back about my concerns. I watched my cat suffer for 2 weeks, shoving meds down her throat while putting almost 1,000 in their account. I expressed my concerns again and was told there is nothing they can do. Suggesting their treatment was correct amd she must have died from a blood clot. As for the large amount of money I spent,  they could care less. Said I could contact their insurance if I felt I was wronged. A week later...I take my records and bloodwork from Kindness and took them to Santa Barbara Animal Hospital and Dr. Kerr was awesome!! Went there with my concerns for what Kindness did to me and the Dr. Kerr gave me 30minutes of his time for no charge. He gave me so much useful information. Just by looking at my records and Chloe's bloodwork, he was able to clarify what was truly wrong with my Chloe. Dr. Kerr is Amazing!!!! As for Kindess, they were treating an issue but ignoring a much larger issue, a GI issue that 9 out of 10 would kill her and she was suffering. I should have been told this and given the option of putting her to sleep peacefully and end the suffering. However Kindness ignored this GI issue and chose to lie to me telling me it was only a parasite issue that would in NO way kill her. Do not use KINDESS Animal Hospital. There is NOTHING kind about them!! Just fake smiles and deep pockets! Oh and they altered their notes prior to giving me copies. Notes stated they requested I go and get an X-ray to check for cancer which we were NEVER told. Funny how records and notes change after they realize they killed your pet slowly. Use Santabarbara Animal hospital. They truly care Read Less

You are greeted with a smile and two beautiful kitties upon entering, the waiting area is not only filled with tons of information to inform their guests on general animal care but it offers their most recommended products best suited for our fur babies. I didn’t have to wait to be called back, the doctor was right on time the exam room was spacious, extremely clean and organized. The staff was not only friendly to my fur baby but they gave an equal amount of respect to me as well. The staff were extremely knowledgeable, they didn’t push any unnecessary procedures, they gave me all the best options possible and their best recommendations. My pup needed surgery to remove a lump, they explained the procedure thoroughly and answered any questions I had. An estimate was given before I made my decision to move forward with the surgery and it was accurate resulting in the minimum they quoted (which is always a plus!) The procedure was quick, I received updates on Marty throughout the day and received a call the moment his anesthesia wore off to let me know the surgery was a success and Marty was doing great! I went to go pick Marty up, Dr. Kerr came out and explained everything that took place during the procedure, he told me what to expect and he explained the medication and recovery instructions thoroughly. I am extremely satisfied with the cleanliness of the clinic, the friendliness of the staff and the amount of knowledge this clinic holds. Despite Marty’s surgery he seemed really happy and comfortable and I am extremely happy with the care Marty received. It is clear everyone in this clinic is passionate about their career and are happy to be helping animals! Thank you Santa Barbara Animal Clinic for everything! You exceeded expectations ten fold and I am so happy to have found your establishment, will recommend to everyone! Read Less

This is the worst diagnostic hospital. Eighteen months ago we took our English Bulldog to this clinic because he was retaining water big time. That evening we get a call from the clinic telling us that Watson probably would not live past the next day due to liver, kidney , or parcreatitus. We picked him up and rushed him to SVS. When we picked him up the next day, he had lost about 50% of the water. The news wasn't great as he was diagnosed with congested heart failure, but with meds he lived 8 more months.Because it was convenient, we took our Old English Bulldog 2 days after we got him for well puppy checkup. Old English's do not have the same health problems as the English Bulldog as they are breed for health and activity. The one thing you have to be careful with Olde English is they have a very sensitive GI system. The idiot vet who probably knows nothing about an Olde English gave him his puppy shots and a antibiotic because he had a slight case of diarrhea. The shots are enough to irritate his GI tract, but the antibiotics caused projectile diarrhea. Eight days of poop all over the house because this idiot prescribed the wrong medication. We took the puppy back to the breeder, her vet prescribed the correct medication and within 2 days the diarrhea has cleared up. The Santa Barber vet tech advised against taking the pup back to the breeder and wanted to run more tests. Of course, let's run up the bills even more. The place is clean and bright, but their diagnostic shills are nonexistant. They may be able to provide 1st year vet school services but I would warn against using them for anything more sofisticated. Read Less

If you are looking for a vet with a REAL difference then you're going to love Santa Barbara Animal Hospital.   It's a brand new and beautiful facility with large exam rooms, lots of natural light, extremely clean and most of all, staffed by the nicest and most caring doctors and staff you will find anywhere in the Cape.  The waiting area is huge with lots of seating and floor to ceiling windows all around.  The extra space means your pets and others aren't cramped together which avoids issues that may occur.  The desk staff always has a smile and gets you in an exam room very quickly.  The rooms are oversized with comfortable seats and skylights for real light and some have floor to ceiling windows.  Again, extremely clean. They are a full service vet with ultrasound, x-ray, surgical and lab capabilities.  I have yet to see their boarding or post surgical area but if the front of the facility is anything like the working area in back, you can bet it's top notch as well.  They have several large grassy areas for your pet to use or do their business and they provide bags and disposal outside as well.  Parking is no problem and there are more than enough spaces.  it's located across from Cape Coral Technical College just north of Pine Island Road on Santa Barbara Blvd. Now the import stuff...the doctors.  I've only worked thus far with Dr. Kerr, having followed him here from Kindness Animal Hospital (see separate review).  I wish words could describe what a great vet and person he his in a way that conveys how I really feel.  Suffice it to say he's the kind of vet you want in your pets corner and one who virtually adopts your pet as his own.  His thorough approach is amazing and he has been responsible for saving one of our dogs lives by identifying and treating cancer that was missed on multiple visits by other practices.  He recently found a suspicious lump on one of our dogs during an unrelated visit and immediately rearranged his schedule to get her into surgery within an hour of testing the lump and determination it was a mass cell tumor!  THIS IS WHAT SEPARATES A GOOD VET FROM A GREAT VET.I must also mention the Technicians as they are super friendly, fast and well trained and educated. It's your choice but my pets are everything to me.  I'm a huge fan who is proud to write a heartfelt review in the hopes others will read it and see that this organization is NOTHING like any other when it comes to the wellbeing of your beloved pet. We went for a routine annual visit with shots and it took almost 2 hours!!!  I only went here once and had a terrible first impression.  I did like the vets and the office is very nice, but their office staff is just not good on any level. They must be horribly mis-managed because it's obvious that they're miserable working there-- and the performance suffers because of it. They're not welcoming when you walk in and I've never been to a vet's office where the vet techs didn't seem to be animal lovers.  They're all like zombies who are just trudging through their day. They were slow and just didn't respect my time or the stress they put on the animals.  For that reason, I will never trust them to care for my pets. Read Less

He became very aggressive and I sustained several bites which required medical attention. The staff at the hospital made sure my kids were taken care of, they got an ambulance enroute, they made sure my dog was secured in a kennel, Dr. Kerr and the staff bandaged up my arms and they kept my dog overnight until I could decide what I was going to do with him. Do not go here...go somewhere that actually cares about the well being of your pet and not about raping you for every dollar they can!  After taking my dog in twice for a rash, getting two different antibiotics, two different antihistamines and fatty acid tablets, totalling over 500.00$ my dogs rash finally  went away. 8 months later when it returned I began giving her the antibiotics that were left over but only had enough for 6 days. The rash was almost gone so I called to see if they could call a perscirption for the antibiotics into Publix, since it's free there, and they said no I'd have to bring her in so they can make sure it's the same rash. I explained she had been on the medicine for six days already and the rash was nearly gone but they still refused saying it had been almost a year since they had seen her...it was 8 mos actually but I'm still not sure why that mattered other than them wanting to make more money off of me for the same rash. Btw...she never needed the antihistamines and I was never offered a persription to have filled somewhere less expensive or advised of the cost, they just gave me the meds and charged me! Read Less

I find it all too often that people are quick to add negative experiences they have, but I believe is as important if not MORE important to write about amazing experiences you have. I contacted Santa Barbara Animal Hospital about some issues my 3.4lb 13year old teacup Chihuahua was having. My normal vet doesn't check any animals eyes so I knew I needed to investigate further. I also called an animal ophthalmologist. They are very expensive and can be very invasive when it comes to checking the eyes. I wanted to get a professional opinion and some eye care before I decided if I wanted to take it any further. My dog is my baby and she is my family. I had called and talked to Jessica the manager/lead tech and she said to go ahead and bring her in and they would run some tests to try and identify the problem. When I arrived I was greeted by two very sweet vet techs/receptionist, then I was escorted to a room to wait for the vet named Terri. While I waited Jessica came in to ask me many questions about my dogs condition so she could relay the information to the vet. My dog is very old and fragile and Jessica was so sweet and gentle with her and even used her blanket to hold her during the tests to keep her safe. The tests were performed while I was present and everything checked out. She is going to need to go to a specialist, but in the meantime they recommended pain relieving drops that I purchased there to help her. It saddens me to be here writing this. On Monday 4/7/14 my husband and son took my 18 month old bullterrier to this vet cause she was lethargic and not eating, she had only vomited once on Fri. They did 2 X-rays and a fecal exam and have her Flagyl 500mg and told them they could keep her for observation over night for about $900 did no labs before she left office. Later that day I called and spoke to JESSICA due to my Spencer started to vomit after she took her first dose of Flagyl and was told to give her the Bland GI wet food that they sent her home with. WHICH WAS FULL OF GRAINS AND RICE WHEN THEY WERE TOLD THAT MY DOG IS HIGHLY ALLERGIC. Was told that if she wasn't better by Wednesday to call them. They didn't even do a well check call to check on her. When I called Wednesday morning MISS. JESSICA was RUDE and told me that my husband and son didn't give the correct information for them to be able to treat her. How funny aren't you the VET with the license not us. Well I HOPE YOUR PROUD OF YOUR SELVES CAUSE SHE DIED. AND I PROMISE IT WILL NOT BE IN VAIN OH NO IT WON'T. YOU SHOULDE BE CLOSED DOWN AND JESSICA SHOULD BE TREATED HOW SHE TREATS PEOPLE. Even just the front desk Stephanie who I spoke with this morning had more manners and then your office manager JESSICA. The two techs--Willie and I forgot the other name (sorry)--were so kind, comforting and made me feel the best that I possibly could have felt. They went as far as offering to come to my home and help my bury him. This goes above and way beyond any expectation that I could have ever had, not only for a Vet Tech but for someone who didn't know me, a stranger, to be that over the top kind is unbelievable. It is good to know there are still good people out there. I didn't get a chance to talk to the Doctor that much because of the circumstances, but she was extremely thoughtful as well. Thank you all again, and I will not hesitate the next time I need a vet. My family will forever be a client of yours, and I will tell everyone I know. Sincerely, Ben U Read Less

Stay away from this place. As mentioned in other review, the office manager (Jessica, I beleive) is causing this vet to loose patients and money. She is rude and threatened to call the police on me because i kept asking her questions she could not answer like "where is the vet? She replied "she is at lunch" I ask "Why are you preforming medical services on my cat without a licensed practitioner on site? " She did not like me asking informed questions. Control freak. I filed a complaint with the State against the vet's license for failing to supervise performed medical services and the obnoxious behaviors of her staff. The worst experience I have ever had as a patron to a business. Do yourself a favor and stay away.Read Less

They must be horribly mis-managed because it's obvious that they're miserable working there-- and the performance suffers because of it. They're not welcoming when you walk in and I've never been to a vet's office where the vet techs didn't seem to be animal lovers.  They're all like zombies who are just trudging through their day. Read Less

I really appreciated the kindness of the whole staff and glad I chose to come to this vet clinic. I will be recommending this to my family and friends.Read Less

And the Vet her self didn't even show my husband the films or reports from X-rays as we have done by other Vets in the past. If you want your pets to live DON'T BRING THEM HERE AND IF YOU DO MAY GOD BE WITH YOU AND YOUR ANIMAL..Read Less

This staff has gone above and beyond to remedy a mistake or offer last minute help in a pet emergency on more than one occassion. Office manager, Jessica has always acted as a consumate professional (all the girls there are great...) and has displayed great tact when dealing with rather diffucult situations. There are cheaper places to go, but you wouldn't get the close family feeling elsewhere, where you're just a number.Read Less

I just want to take a moment and thank you all who were involved this morning with me and my dog Wally, instantly recognizing how hard of a time it was.

FANTASTIC Vet! Dr. Alexander is so caring! She was able to do my dogs vasectomy opposed to a basic neuter! Staff is also wonderful! Would never take my dogs anywhere else!

I was an established client of this practice. I took my newly adopted cat, made an appointment for 2 p.m. and arrived ten minutes early. Met with with the "practice manager".  Not very friendly reception  to start off with. She took me and my cat in the exam room and she and an assistant began trying to take my cat' rectal temp. I did not like their handling of my cat, he was not enjoying this and they pulled  and held him. I told them stop. We'll we do this all the time." Her tone was argumentative and bitchy". I requested to see  the vet.  "They aren't here at lunch." she replied.  I told them to stop treatment and asked to see their license to practice. The manager said " I don't have to show you and if you don't leave I am calling police. leave now:' . Customer service was pathetic and this individual just cost Dr. Alexander 2 feline patients and a complaint with the state for Licensure non compliance. I have never been so disrespected by a professional. Don't subject your pet. Read Less
