We have been taking our Rottweiler puppy here for the past few months after switching from a different vet who couldn’t find out what was wrong with our pup. He was ill and had no energy as a young puppy should. We took him for a second opinion because we were discouraged with the first vets response: “there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong, but we’ll just prescribe him this medication.” Chiquita discovered a very loud heart murmur... which apparently was never heard by our former vet? They set us up with a cardiologist and we found out that he was born with heart disease. We are very saddened with the news but very grateful for Chiquita vet, Dr. Tuttle and Dr. Ludwig for informing us so we can do what we can to help him live his best life. They are doing a great job of checking up on him to make sure medication is doing what it should. Read Less

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PIT BULL OR ANY "BULLY" BREED HERE! Vet was dangerously ignorant about the breed and was obviously not comfortable treating my dog who is a big baby. The first visit I asked to see a different vet for follow up and was told that I would but no I saw the same ignorant woman. The staff were beyond rude. I actually got a sigh and an eye roll when I asked for paper towels to clean up a mess left by another animal which looked like blood. This happened a year ago and they completely ignored the complaint email I sent afterwards as well as the review on Yelp. I took my Chihuahua here because she wasn't feeling well. They examined her and gave me a bottle of antibiotics. Took blood work and x rays and left with a $300 plus bill. I got called two days later and was told she had an infection in her stomach. give her the meds and come back in two weeks. I did this but she wasn't getting better, I took her back they did another x ray and told me she had cancer. Why was this not found the first time. They then charged me another $130 for this and told me they wanted another $118 to put her to sleep. What a total rip off. Now I have her at home and waiting for her to die. I was refered here from a friend and thought I'd try. My wait time was about an hour which is understandable but when it got to the check out part it went downhill.. I was offered a program to pay $68 one time to get vaccines for life but had to commit to yearly exams with them. She seemed annoying explaining it to me already. Didn't seem too bad but I don't sign up for anything on the first visit so I kindly refused. The young lady checking me out seem more annoyed I didn't sign up. Do not feel that they are very sympathetic to your pets needs. They want to do very expensive testing if you don't even have the money. I think they could be a little bit more lenient especially when I animal is old and is going to pass anyway. I had to have one of my loved dogs put to sleep there. Way over priced!!! Price gouging! My poor cat needs a steroid / antibiotic shot every 4 wks for a skin issue. They charged me $ 95.00 for 2 shots + $60.00 Dr. exam fee!!! Viscaya-Prado Vet Hospital only charged $32.75 for the same 2 shots last month + $59.00 Dr. exam fee. I called Chiquita office manager to question prices and they said sorry... the owners set the prices its out of my hands. I cannot say enough about this vet service. I had to euthanize my adorable 14 year old cat who became very ill rather quickly and the staff from reception to the vet, to the techs were absolutely wonderful to me. While being professional, they were extremely kind and courteous even to the extent of not making me walk through the waiting room full of waiting pets to be seen. I cannot say enough about them. I have been bringing my pets to Chiquita Animal Hospital for over 10 years. I love Dr. Hollenbeck, she is always my preference to treat my babies. I have dealt with the other vets there and they are all very nice and very good doctors. The techs are all very good, the front desk ladies are all very good. The only slight issue is the check out. I will admit, it can be a slow process. When you are finished in the exam room, you are told to go to the checkout and the file will be up there shortly. The ladies at the front desk are waiting for the doctor to write their notes so the owner has the notes from the exam. The only suggestion I might have is to let the owner waiting to check out know it might be a few minutes if they want to take a seat and the front desk will call them up to the desk when they are ready for checkout. Where do I start, how about with - two of my babies (small dogs - both about 10 lbs) were treated with a feline leukemia vaacination. Yes both were given the wrong shot. Response: oh i made a mistake.. - facility: the place is gross, the smell is overpowering. ... - staff: could care less about the pet or us, not really friendly, minimum interaction. They don't bother to learn our pets names. once they even confused the two. I mean Italian grey hound wearing pink and a chihuahua. (It's easy, take the time-put a picture in their files...) - times: even with an appointment we wait in line to check in, (never know who we are, or who the dogs are) we wait never less than 20 minutes in the lobby just to get a room and once in the room atleast 60 minutes, minimum. - honesty: well... it's weird we always get a different annoyance. Today we were told that since the 6 month supply of heart worm pills that we got from them had been gone for two months and we didn't purchase new ones from them we had to sign a waiver saying they are not responsible for worms or for anything that happens as a result of restarting the dogs on heart worm medicine .. Ummm you can buy Sentinal from anywhere and cheaper. Why do I have to sign a waiver for a pill my pets ARE still taking.?. (and you want them to take it) I will say the doctor owned her mistake. Great for her. - examination: so doctor says oh there's tarter on the bake tooth. Doesn't bring it up again, reading the exam notes: tarter, recommend cleaning, soreness on that side may cause not to eat from that side. Ummm thanks for not telling us in the exam that you had recommendations for us or any type of concern at all. - cost: meah, not expensive for a vet, over priced for the experience, value and care provided. - there are other options folks. My dog was taken away from me and examined in a separate room without me where I couldn't explain the situation or the issues. We had never been here so it's not like they knew my dog. I'm new to the area and looking for a vet. When I called loved the fact that I didn't need an appointment I could walk in and have my dog seen. Didn't think much of Dr. Lomnicki and the fact that they took my dog out of the room and down the hall to take her temp. Of course I followed and watched. My dog has a lump on the back of her leg and to remove they wanted 977.00 which I found to be outrageous. And those cost could go up during surgery. It's so hard today to find a good vet and one that is reasonable. I won't be going back there. I will research and find someone else to remove the lump. Read Less

Dr Ludwig is the best. We brought our boy Meatball in after his health continued to fail under the care of another vet. He has a very rare condition that was wasting his muscle mass on his head and jaw until he was diagnosed by Dr Ludwig at Chiquita AH. As a pet owner with multiple pets, I know this office well. There are not enough good things I can say about them. I've had one cat who underwent eye removal surgery here, another in intensive care with a urinary tract blockage. The vets are all very easy to communicate with, and are 100% transparent. The office is certainly not the cheapest available, but the care is completely worth the cost. The counter service is very helpful, even during the busiest times. I would definitely recommend them! Do not take your pet to this vet!! They do not care about you or your pet. They have the worst customer service and are not good at their jobs!!! My cat was allergic to the antibiotics they prescribed...it was making him very ill. I called and got a different prescription. Not their fault so no biggie. Only a few months later I was back again for a different issue. They prescribed the same antibiotics that made him sick...he almost died because of it. They didn't even check their records. Ridiculous. They also took x-rays and told me my cat had lung cancer. I asked if it could be something else and they mentioned a blood test. First of all, why didn't they offer that first?! Probably because all they care about is money. Ends up he doesn't have cancer...just a thyroid problem. They prescribed 4 medications....only one of which my cat actually needed. I called to get my vet files transfered to another vet and they didn't care at all. I love my cat and it is my responsibility to protect him...I will never go to Chiquita Animal Hospital again!!! We've been taking our dogs there for over a decade. Unfortunately, we just had to put our 11 year old Yorkie down. The staff there was incredible!! As hard as it was (the hardest day of our lives!!!!!). They were kind and gentle and very caring ( as usual).... But it meant the world to us on that day. We had called ahead and They immediately put us in room 7. They brought in a nice plush velvety blanket for him to fall asleep on and gave us a few minutes to say our goodbyes. They also told us we had done the right thing after looking at his record because his tumor was probably not going to be solved by tests and it would have only prolonged his suffering, which we did NOT want to do. After it was over they allowed us to sneak out the back door so no other customers had to see us in our uncontrollable tears. They were really great and we really appreciate what they did for us!!! They made it just a little bit easier, which goes a Long way when you are doing something like that. They have always been a great staff that treated our pets like family. We have two more dogs and we will continue to use their wonderful service as long as we have pets!!! God bless them and their wonderful staff!!!!!Read Less

Only giving this place one star because there isn't an option to give zero. Years ago I had a HORRIBLE experience here. This review is long overdo but I was not aware of Yelp back then. They misdiagnosed my cat as being pregnant and when we brought her back with concerns that she was sick, they realized she was actually in need of a hysterectomy ASAP or she was going to die. While the estimate for this was extremely over priced, we did have a credit card back then and they told us she needed the surgery NOW. We overlooked this and gave them the benefit of the doubt, and a year or so later we brought our male cat there after not being able to urinate. They told us he needed surgery and the estimate price was ridiculous. We no longer had a credit card, so we asked if they had any payment plans or if any unnecessary treatments could wait and could be taken off. They did nothing to help us and were definitely not understanding. They proceeded to make us feel like we did not care about our animal. We actually had a worker tell us and I quote, "Well if you can't afford your animal, then he is just going to die." My mom busted out into tears and we never came back. (With the exception of my dad to chew them out) We took our male cat to a different vet who did the same surgery for much cheaper and offered a payment plan. I'm bringing this up now because a friend of mine recently took her dog here and she did not have a good experience either. Please do not go here. They just want your money. Read Less

We had our 9 year old Boxer at Chiquita Animal Hospital to see Dr. Tuttle in June, she found that our baby had a mass on his leg that needed to be taken off. He had surgery by Dr. Lomnicki a few weeks later and seems to be healing up well. Both doctors were very kind, and took the time to explain what was going on to us. The staff there is amazing also, Emerson is always very informative and really, really nice. Save your time and money and go somewhere else. I have been taking my pets here for 10+ years, we used to be loyal Dr. Bean patients, but in the past 5 years, their quality of care, compassion levels, and OVERALL business has DRASTICALLY declined! The vets there all seem inexperienced at best, not reviewing pet history or pre-existing conditions.They suggest tests and treatments for me to agree to, only to be utterly shocked at the checkout desk when they say the total is $300+++ almost every time. Now don't get me wrong, I understand that vet care is expensive and I am MORE than willing to pay a high bill to care for my animals, but the level of care should also be high.Their lack of transparency is sickening. They do NOT care about your pets, all they care about is your money. Time after time, I have kept going back, hoping that maybe I caught them on a bad day, but I am now convinced that everyday is a bad day for them. By far the WORST customer service I have ever seen. If you would like to see a taste of it yourselves, take some time to read their Google Reviews and the company responses to disgruntled clients. Most of them are quite rude, instead of trying to mend the relationship that was lost. They said things like "Unfortunately your pet is your responsibility and no one else's," in regards to a boarding issue, and "It is interesting that you had such a bad experience yet you continue to use our services!" 6 years ago I was desperate. I had a very sick 17yr old kitty who I loved dearly and it was time for him to go to the rainbow bridge. I needed a place to take him and the staff a Chiquita Animal Hospital took me right away. I have never been there before and they treated me and my cat with an exceptionally caring attitude. They took the time out of a very busy day and full waiting room to see my cat and help me say goodbye....and I never felt rushed. I've had not one but two horrible experiences with this vet. In December 2015 I bought a newly rescued cat in because he didn't seem to be eating/defecating. Hollenbeck did a exam of him and said he was fine then comes back five minutes later saying he has a bone shard sticking out of his rectal cavity and a very narrow rectal cavity "possibly from being hit by a car" she then explained how expensive the cat would be and that she'd recommend putting him down... I got a second opinion at Viscaya Prado vet and they did xrays ect and saw that there's no bone shard (which was the most urgent thing) and they removed any of the blockage and THANK GOD I didn't listen because now 4 months later he's a totally normal healthy cat who has a healthy life. Next I took my puppy in (ONLY BECAUSE It was a literal emergency I had walked out and seen her drooling excessively and not responsive but still breathing) they gave her dextrose then told me she was poisoned I said the only thing I can think of is my meds but I'm very meticulous with that and can't see how she'd get any (there was no bottle, container, anything) well it turns out she was having a hypoglycemic attack (she's a 2.0 lb chihuahua) and that was it. They had tecommended going to this vet in Estero for the "anecdote" to a poisoning they weren't even sure of...? They also had me call animal poison control for $80 and start a case w them so they could communicate... All in all they lack empathy and are seriously rude. Read Less

I highly recommend you do not take your pet here, I will never take my dogs here again. If I could give no stars I would. I have been going to Chiquita Animal Hospital for over 13 years. My dog was having symptoms of a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). I called yesterday and was told that I could bring in a urine sample, would know the results in about 20 minutes, and that if she tested positive that antibiotics would be prescribed. This was a great option because with my dog being almost 13, getting in and out of the car is hard on her joints and she was just there in December. I took the urine sample today and dropped it off at 3:40, left, came back at 4:00 for the results, waited until 4:40 an hour later and was told that she tested positive for a UTI but the vet would not give antibiotics until a physical examination was done. Unbelievable. My dog was seen recently in December, I paid 400$ at that time, shes tested positive for a UTI today, but yet the vet wont prescribe medicine to treat her UTI! If a human has symptoms of a flu and tests positive for it, they are given medicine to treat the flu. If the flu doesn't get better, then you go back to the doctor. Their motto is quality care with compassion. Tonight my dog is suffering with a UTI that she tested positive for, because of their lack of care and compassion, and their greed. Read Less

I highly recommend you do not take your pet here, I will never take my dogs here again. I have been going to Chiquita Animal Hospital for over 13 years. My dog was having symptoms of a UTI. I called and was told that I could bring in a urine sample, would know the results in about 20 minutes, and that if she tested positive that antibiotics would be given. I found that the drive for vaccinations for life, this past May or June,is just one of the benefits for bringing my 4 cats here. The staff is patient, caring and friendly. I was just there 2 nights ago and one of assistants was already off the clock and her spouse waiting for her to go home. She stayed to care for my case beyond her shift and after she left I was still well attended. I would highly recommend this caring group of people.Read Less

Doctor Kacoyanis is the best, most caring and thorough doctor I've had the pleasure to know. I wouldn't trust my loved pets with anyone like I do with him. He takes the time to help you understand and genuinely loves animals. I have been going to Chiquita since the mid 90's and have had many pets go there. The staff and doctors are wonderful caring people and always make you and your pet feel important. I live further away now but I'd drive even further to keep going there.
