I took my cat in they immediately took him to the back, we waited in our car for about 2 hours before a room was ready. I was told I couldn't see him till after testing, I was given a quote on blood work and x-rays ($675) when I questioned the amount and if we could try only one test I was told if you can't afford to get tests how can you afford treatment, then the vet came in claimed he had been in the incubator since he was taken to the back , they had used a catheter on him he had improved but basically said that there was no hope but I could leave him there for a few days to try but I would be looking at at least $7,000 "but he was not a show cat only those cats should seek treatment." Still hadn't been allowed to see him yet. They finally brought him in his ears were ice cold his tongue was sticking out and blue, he was heartbreaking then we noticed he had a huge knot by his bladder (so never catheterized, no incubator) his condition deteriorated 100% since I had brought him in, I wouldn't have agreed to the tests if I knew he was that bad off. Someone came in to get him so he could cauterize him and took him. Then they tried to pressure me into spending an additional 3-500 on a urn that if I didn't he would be returned in a "Ziploc bag" . I feel like I was lied to, pressured into signing for what turned out to be almost $1000 and still had to put my baby down. They were only interested in how much money they could take from me. She looked down on me treated us the situation horribly. Truth be told if she could have guaranteed my she could have saved him I would have paid what ever I needed to. I also overheard them telling the same things to another person. I don't recommend at all unless you want the same horrific things to happen to you that did us and many others. I'm completely disgusted with this vet, staff and situation. Read Less

Worst experience in my life! I walked in with my dog (who just had got bitten by another dog, bleeding and in pain). I was the only one in the lobby when I checked in and 45 mins later the lobby was filled when I finally got called back. I waited 30 mins for a assisted to come in and see my dog. (my dog was extremely scared and would not let the assistant see the wound under her long hair) so we showed them pictures of the wound and she said she would definitely stitches. She leaves and then doesn’t come back in for another 30 mins and then they tell me it’s going to be a couple hours of till they can even fix her because a vet was going home and they would only have ONE vet available! That is Ridiculous! They also charged me a $50 visual fee that I had to pay immediately while my dog is in my arms bleeding and in need of help! I left and went to EAST ANIMAL HOSPITAL! East animal hospital took my dog right when I got there handle everything amazingly. There staff was so supportive. Read Less

Office staff said they are closing when we arrived at 650. Then she said could get him started and send you to your vet. Left upset because already tried banfield which opens early but doctor not in until 9. So we drove to Newman veterinarian in Deland. They came out with gurney and took him in as first walk-in even though office was not open yet. They took care of him. He was bleeding out in his. Stomach after x-ray and test recommended we put him to sleep. Your office lost over.700 dollars yesterday . Lucky didn't deserve to be treated like your 7 o'clock closing time was more important. Wow! My husband and I are SO incredibly grateful to these guys, especially to Dr. Schoeppner and Bailey. Two weeks ago we brought our little dachshund Darcy to the Casselberry location. He had suffered severe complications from a surgery performed by our former vet and we really thought we were going to lose him. Everyone at the VEC was so kind and understanding. Bailey especially took a lot of time to just talk to us and help us understand what was happening. We did not have to wait long before we met with Dr. Schoeppner — she quickly came up with a plan to combat the horrible infection Darcy had and get him through the weekend. On the financial side, we were given a low quote and a high quote for the weekend. When we checked out on Monday morning, our balance was actually a lot less than the low quote. That was a big deal to us, simply because we had more surgery in front of us and did not yet know how much everything would cost. Both Dr. Schoeppner and Bailey were very helpful about recommending where we needed to take Darcy on Monday morning for surgery. They recommended Affiliated Veterinary Specialists (AVS) and the VEC called and sent all paperwork to them, so that we were able to transfer our dachshund immediately. On a side note, the team at AVS is also amazing, so we are SO glad that Veterinary Emergency Clinic recommended them! My husband and I both agree, that weekend was one of the worst times in our lives. It might sound silly, but Darcy is a huge part of our family and it was so traumatic and emotional to watch him suffer and not know if we would be able to get him through it. I don’t know what we would have done without this incredible team— the Veterinary Emergency Clinic kept our little guy alive! Read Less

Brought my dog in because he ate a small amount of chocolate. After assuring me it would not cost much since I am a college student I allowed them to make him vomit. They charged me $200.... $100 was for the checkup alone... aka heart beat and vitals. Way over priced. The other $100 went towards the vomiting medication!! I started crying over how much they charged me after what they promised... they didn’t care. Left me alone in the room with paperwork and smirked when I asked if they give student discounts... Will NOT being going back again. Very rude and not honest. P.S. If your dog eats chocolate give them hydrogen peroxide. It also makes them throw up and only costs you $5. You’re welcome. Read Less

I had a very similar experience to Dalia Fox. My cat was dying. She had labored breathing, a low temp, and was very dehydrated. They took her back immediately away from us but did not begin any type of treatment on her. We waited in a room for 2 hours and not a single person came in to update us as to whether she was even still alive. I finally asked the receptionist for an update and a vet tech stopped in to say the dr was busy with surgery and would get to us shortly which was an hour later. The whole reason I rushed her to the emergency vet was because I knew she was dying and I didn’t want her to suffer but while we were waiting 3 hours she was in the back by herself and given no treatment or relief except oxygen. When the vet, Dr. Jennifer Freeman, finally talked to us, she told us the cat needed to be euthanized. She was very blunt and firm in her insistence. When I asked if they could make her comfortable enough to go home so I could go to my personal vet to euthanize the next morning (mainly because of the negative, uncomfortable environment there) she persisted in pushing us to do it then and there and said “what would be the point except to cause her unnecessary suffering”. It’s not what she said, it’s how she said it. She was argumentative about it. She was also very rude and condescending. Not at all what you want to deal with in an already stressful situation. This vet needs some help with her communication style. Delivery is everything and she sucked at it. The only saving grace was a kind vet tech named Jose that came in and spoke to us. He was so much more compassionate and good in how he communicated with us that we decided to euthanize there but we did insist another vet do it. Dr. Freeman needs some schooling in compassion. The 24 hour staffing is definitely a plus. No other vet was open when our 9 week old pup suddenly started coughing and gagging....classic signs of Kennel Cough, which is a common ailment amongst puppies that have not yet been fully vaccinated. We drive 30 minutes to the emergency clinic and they make us call the office to have someone come out and meet us at the car. A bit strange but they were worried about canine influenza. I understand they don't want to spread the disease but just seemed very over dramatic to treat our puppy like he was some kind of E.T. A vet tech came out and was pretty rude to us, not really listening to what we were saying. She just was just quick to assume our puppy had the flu when we were trying to explain the symptoms. His temperature was normal so if it were the flu the temperature would have been high. It was just not a good experience, making us wait in the car for a dog with obvious kennel cough. And they don't do vaccinations so it just is a time and money saver to take our dog to the regular vet. We just wanted to get some care on a Sunday evening before Memorial Day but we ended up just wasting time. Read Less

Last night we had to take one of our family members to Casselberry Vet. Clinic. We were greeted by the front desk, we explained to the young lady our yorkie's symptoms. She then took us into exam room right away, that is when we has Nurse Tammy did a quick examination on Chachi. she saw how sick our boy was and she let Dr. Mirza know. When Dr. Mirza came in she also did an exam on Chachi and by the look on her face it was not good. Dr. Mirza then spoke to me and my wife on what will be the next step to treat Chachi. "NO" pressure she gave us an estimate and the tests were not a guarantee that Chachi will get better due to his serve sickness. Me and my Wife knew that Chachi was suffering throwing up and not able to walk and not have been eating for the last 2 days and that was strange because Heavy C aka Chachi loves to eat. So me and my wife decided to let our boy go so he wont suffer anymore. Dr. Mirza was so Compassion and Caring and was gentle to the last breathe of our beloved Chachi. I got there right as they opend, I was sent there by Banfield. My cat had a blockage and it was pretty serious, possibly fatal. I explained to then the diagnosis I was already yiven. They took him right away. The Dr. Explained everything in detail and walked me through the entire process. They gave him some meds to make him more comfortable. From there they let me see him before the procedure. I waited in the lobby while it was done and they came and got me when it was finished. The staff from the front desk to the nurses in back were all nice and very professional. I realize there are some bad reviews on here, but I think some of them are not warranted. If you have a long wait, just because there are only 2 other patients doesn't mean that the dr is not working. Last time I checked it's also ok if people laugh at work. If you know so much then why are you at the dr to begin with. Your not a dr so you can't access the other patients. There are signs that clearly state that other patients may be seen that came in after you based on the extent of the emergency. As far as not taking your check amscot is open 24hrs. And honestly if they break that policy for one person then whats the point in having a policy to begin with? I'm glad they are here and they are a wonderful facility. Last night I rushed in a cat I had rescued off the streets over the weekend. He was receiving proper veterinary care, but after his vet closed he became nonresponsive. He passed away, through no fault of the staff (he was very ill). The reason for the review is the way the staff, particularly the nurse working with him, treated me. The entire time I was treated like some sort of horrible monster and condescended to like a small child. It was absolutely traumatizing to on top of losing a cat I had grown to love so much and was trying so hard to save have to listen to someone treat me as though his illness was my fault and that I was being cruel. I am sure the staff sees some horrible things and comes face to face with the worst of humanity on a regular basis, so to an extent I understand, but it was still completely uncalled for. Read Less

I don't have an exact complaint for the emergency vet location in Casselberry, but certainly for the one in downtown and the people (third party; board members) who administer all locations. On Dec 24, our cocker spaniel was bleeding. We were not sure what was wrong with her, so at 10:30 pm my husband, sister and daughter rushed her to the emergency vet in the downtown area because the Casselberry office was very busy that night. After charging my husband $400+ on visit and LOTS of different medicines, our Lola was sent home with a urinary tract infection. On Dec 26, sadly we had to put her down. When she woke up that morning yelping in pain and not being able to stand much less walk, we knew something was terribly wrong. The vet at the Casselberry office diagnosed her with renal failure. We paid an additional $295. In two days TWO different diagnosis. I spoke to the head vet, who in return investigated the matter. Dr. Martin felt something was not right and stated he would take my case to the board end of March, and asked that I call him back with the findings. I've called on FOUR separate occasions. He seems to never be in the office, and never returns my calls, even though I leave detailed messages. Yesterday when I called, the receptionist was extremely rude and even hung up on me. I am now considering taking this matter higher up. The lack of courtesy, professionalism and care is frustrating. Very, very disappointed.Read Less

I would highly recommend this facility to anyone who needs 24/7 care for their pet. We recently had a dog whose intestines twisted and had to have 40% of them removed (done by another facility) and he needed to be seen overnight because his chance of survival was about 50/50. The office kept in touch with us during a very anxious time and talked to us and reassured us of our pooch's condition at any time of the night. When he was released, he was not only going to be okay but he was almost TOO good because he didn't know he was supposed to take it easy! They took very good care of our dog and helped him defy the odds! Also, for the type of care they offer, they are very reasonably priced. Around the clock care can be very expensive but we only paid $1,700 for two days and nights of around the clock care, and he required A LOT of services and treatment for his condition. Read Less

We brought our dog, Charlie, in because the left side of her face was drooping and we were very concerned she had a stroke or something terrible. The tech, Glory (?), came in and started talking loudly and grabbing at my dog's face without getting in her level or playing with her. My dog got scared and snapped at the tech's hand. So now the whole clinic has labeled my dog aggressive. I would like to point out that my dog has seen several different vets who have had to look and probe at her face before and she has NEVER snapped at any of them. So now, the vet, Steven Schindler, walks in yelling towards my dog. He is a tall man with a very loud voice who never attempts to introduce himself to her or get on her level. He refuses to go near her until we have put a muzzle on her. He never examined her droopy mouth, just looked from across the room. Only looks in her ears for a few seconds. We asked if he could see the clear cut on her lip (he didn't even need to touch her to see it), and he said no. He never attempted to ease her nerves or work with her. He offered to sedate her, but said he would just give her antibiotics no matter what. So we did not sedate our dog unnecessarily if she would get the same treatment either way. After the ear check, no one would touch or go near our dog. When another tech came in to give us the medicine, she looked afraid of our dog, though had no reason to. We were also told they didn't want to attempt to take our dog's temperature, so if she was not better in a couple days that could be an issue. We paid $95 for a vet exam they barely even conducted. We will never come back. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. They need animal sensitivity training. At the very least, they need to be friendlier to the animals and owners.Read Less

I had to take my baby kitten here one night and sadly had to leave without him. He wasn't doing too well and we were given the option to see the Veterinarian or unfortunately put my baby at rest. Given his extensive treatment vs his quality of life. We opted putting him to sleep. I miss him everyday! Everyone I was spoke to was very caring and empathetic. They were patient with me and great taking care of my kitten. Didn't take no time at all for me to go into a room! A few days later I reviewed a sympathy card, gave me a warm feeling and I still have the card. Hope I don't need to go back but if I do, I am confident in their service and care.Read Less

I was totally disgusted when I called spoke to the receptionist, after placing me on hold after every question she asked me. She states it would be $95 for visit x.rays would be $217 and whatever else. I had went to a pet hospital around 7:15 was informed that my dog is having an abortion. Don't know why or how. Those doctors were amazing and referred me to here. I called the receptionist informed me, I would have to pay up front. It's company policy before services are rendered. I asked to speak with a manager and Erica came to the phone stating "well if you have no money then there's nothing we can do. We don't work for free!" I advised this stupid lady I would pay but bill me. I also stated I'm willing to write a contract to ensure it gets paid. She states well I can't make promises but come in and well check his vitals for you but can't do anything. It isn't a life or death situation! I asked her to guarantee she states it's a chance but she can't help. Damn shame. By far the worst Read Less

As a breeder with an emergency with a litter in the sense of a mother cat with a large litter, I called to request a feeding tube. The reason for the feeding tube was because I needed to supplement the kittens that are 2 days old. The feeding tubes I have at home are too big for newborns. They couldn't help me, the only thing the could sell me was a collar. Thanks, Veterinary Emergency Clinic for allowing a litter of kittens to die because you wouldn't sell me a feeding tube. In the past 25 years I have used VEC on more than a dozen occasions for pet medical emergencies, some very serious. VEC is staffed by a rotating group of local Vets who take turns working after hours and weekends. Once I was even seen by my own veterinarian! On every visit, everyone at VEC has been highly professional and compassionate. Your pet (and you) will receive the best care available from the best doctors. While the ER care is not inexpensive and they are located almost 30 minutes from where I live, when my beloved pet's life is at risk I want the best. They saved my dog's life (more than once) and quickly diagnosed two of my cats very serious illnesses. The staff were so incredibly kind to us at the most difficult time. Talk to your vet, he/ she will recommend VEC too. If you find anything equal to VEC, please let me know, that long drive is the only reason I would ever look elsewhere. Read Less

We had taken our 8 yr old Boxer dog who was very ill to another Vet earlier yesterday. The Doctor didn't seem to care much as it was close to closing time, gave our dog a painkiller shot and sent us home. In the mean-time his condition deteriorated and we took him up to this Emergency Vet. The front-desk staff, nurses, Doctor all were absolutely great with us & our Dog. Within minutes the Doctor had figured out that he was in a critical condition and had to be put to sleep. They were all just fantastic at handling our sad situation. We want to just bring the message accross that the staff there deserve all the credit for their hard work and not to mention the after-hours they spend there. Read Less

Trying to figure out why there was a fever and why panting. I was presented with an estimate and all I could say is Wow! I would do anything for my dog but this is after hours prices for sure. I was just glad Charlie went home comfortable. The next day half way thru thru the day Charlie started panting again. Decided to take him to his regular vet. After looking at the xrays I was told the xrays was not done very well. Several other things should have been addressed which was not. Read Less

We took our Maltese in last night on 11/20/16. The vet tech Bailey was extremely RUDE! I brought it to her attention that she was rude and sarcastic and her reply was "just a little." All of this took place in front of my very confused 13 year old children. Although the rest of the staff apologized and Dr. Brothers was very nice, we will NEVER visit this establishment again. First and last visit. I'll definitely be calling her vet to see why this place is offered as an emergency option and obtain a different option just in case we need it in the future... Extremely disappointing especially when you're paying so much for service. Read Less

Dr Schoeppner and the amazing team at VEC saved our dog's life last week - he was bleeding internally and they worked tirelessly to get his blood pressure up so he could have emergency surgery to stop the bleeding. Everyone was kind and patient with us as we thought we were saying goodbye to our first baby. After performing heroic measures to save him, he made a miraculous recovery and will be with us a bit longer. Though he still has cancer, we are enjoying this "bonus" time we get to have with him, and for now he is back to his old bouncy self and we are showing him as much live as possible. Read Less

Wow. I read other ppl's experiences and that's not at all what happened for us. Janel receptionist, gave over the phone the exam fee of 95 plus a range for xray costs, but couldn't give sedation costs. I got there and was immediately met by her and escorted to a room to fill out paperwork. Glory (asst), greeted us one minute later and examined the dog. She advised me as to what should be done and I could do it at home incurring no further charges and an xray was not necessary. She was polite, quick, friendly, and to the point. She was good with the dog and he was in pain. I am grateful to her for taking care of the dog so quickly, allaying my fears, and she saved me a BUNDLE of money for unnecessary charges (unlike another local emergency vet). Would totally go there again - though I hope we never have to. Thanks! The Hero King's Mom (- cuz I don't have an account. lol.) Read Less

Read Less
