Please, I ask that you please do not use the BluePearl Emergency Vet in Clearwater (and based on reviews, anywhere else.)
We took my sister's cat Tomboyardie in yesterday - we had already been to a regular vet but because they were getting ready to close and did not do overnights we were told to take him to the ER - which we did. Once there despite already knowing exactly what was wrong (from a vet that refers/recommends them), and having the paperwork from the previous vet they charged us $95 to do an exam. One we weren't even in the room for. They then took TomTom and came back and had a 10 minute (no lie) monologue about all the things they would need to do. Upon us asking about payment plans they said they don't do it. Despite knowing that what he had could be fatal, and knowing we were more than willing to pay the money we just couldn't in one lump fee. They said they could try something else that was a little less expensive but it would get him out of the 'emergency' state for now even though we knew the issue could reoccur. So they doped him up on pain meds and sent him home with even more. And when I woke up this morning at 4 to give him his first round of meds he was already gone.
Overall we paid a little over $300 for the services they rendered, with their previous quote being at $2,100. Which they refused to work with us at all on.
Not to mention that once we told them we couldn't pay that... we didn't even see the doctor again. We dealt with nurses from there on out (SHE was great by the way, the only one that actually seemed interested in helping, Laura/Lauren was her name). (And seeing as we've had to put pets to sleep, and have been in and out of vets for 20 years, this isn't done when your pet has such a serious problem. It's rude and disrespectful.)
We've lived in this area (Pinellas Park/Largo/Clearwater general area) for over 20 years. We have vet records at Pinellas Animal Vet that date back almost 20 years at this point. We hardly ever have the money on spot, but we've ALWAYS paid our bills. Our animals mean the world to us, but we hardly ever have a ton of padding in our wallets.
I understand that vets work hard, they have lots of schooling bills and most of the ladies in the ER were young - meaning probably still paying those tuition costs. But why in the WORLD do places exist to help our pets in cases of emergencies but only when we have thousands of dollars to randomly shell out for it? What about the emergency of losing a pet? An animal that, at least my family, believe is just as important as all the others, human or not.
I am so disappointed that they thought this was their best, and at the risk of losing a pet, would not work with us when they knew the extent and how serious what he had was. (I mean WE know it and we're not vets.) This was supposed to take him out of an emergency situation, that's what we were told - and apparently it did not. It took less than 6 hours for us to get him back and for him to pass away.
I urge and I ask you that if you care about your pets please do not use BluePearl Emergency Vet or the vet that recommended them, Loving Care Animal Hospital in Largo. They have made it very clear that they care more about the money going into their pockets at that VERY moment, then they do about the well being of the animals they claim to care about.
Hug your pets, please, like I've been doing to mine for the last hour. They might not love it, but who knows when you won't be able to do it again.
(Also, as a footnote, Loving Care Animal Hospital was great while we were in their facility - I only question their services/work on the fact that they're who recommended BluePearl.) Read Less
