Dade County is full of let downs when it comes to various services. I was not going to let my dog down when I came to his care. I was in search of a vet close to me and came to Yelp for reviews. Ponce Animal Clinic's reviews say it all. We came in today with our pup unannounced and no appointment. We needed a quick nail trim as well as Heartguard. As soon as we stepped foot into the office, we were greeted by a polite tech who took our pup immediately. The ladies at the front desk were informative and kind. I took my my dog Elektra to Dr. Tonarely. From the moment I brought my dog here I knew that my dog was in excellent hands. This is the most caring veterinarian office I’ve ever experienced. The staff is professional and they love ❤️ animals. The Dr. operated her for an infected uterus that saved her life and will give her more life with our family. Worst receptionist working there. Called today for the appointment and asked them about the price for vaccine and health certificate. She said you have to pay initial visit 55 dollars and doctors will tell you how much it cost for the vaccine and Heath certificate.  These should be basic knowledge and how come she does not know. Dr. Tonarely and the staff at Ponce De Leon Animal Clinic are the absolute best! Chloe and I are frequent fliers there and despite Chloe being a tad difficult at times, we are always warmly welcomed and always, always helped in a timely manner. The help received is exactly what she needs to recover from her (sometimes my) latest issue and no more. I stress this because in the past I have been to vets who push products, order questionable tests, and suggest unnecessary surgeries. Dr. Tonarely's philosophy of patient care is truly one of "First do no harm." He is calm, kind and extremely competent. My dog Gigi and I LOVE Ponce De Leon Animal clinic. Dr. Toñareli is a very caring and professional Veterinarian.  The staff is specially accommodating and very pleasant. Gigi had cronic colitis and with a special veterinary diet sent by him, she has been healthy and without any symptoms for the last 2 years. We have been taking our 3 dogs to Ponce Animal Clinic for almost 9 years. We have always had a positive experience and leave feeling that our babies have been given the best care. We make appointments bi-yearly for checkups and shot updates. Our dogs are seldom sick but we have had an emergency recently with a buffo encounter and Dr Tonarely was there to help save our little dog when I thought we had lost him. The reception and staff are extremely polite and accommodating. Dr Tonarely is very caring, professional  and takes time to talk with you about your pets. This is a fantastic animal clinic in the Coral Gables area.  It's been around a long time, and the DR. and STAFF are reliable, knowledgeable and compassionate.  I've had three experiences, all positive, which I'll share.(1) Fifteen years ago I adopted a small kitten from a friend.   When it was time to get her vaccinations and later have her spayed I came here.   They did a fine job and I felt at east with Dr. Tonarely.(2) Last year I brought our sweet cat in for a checkup since she's getting by in years.  Dr. Tonarely examined her with care and in an age of overmedication or overtreatment advised me she's a 'healthy old gal', and to continue giving her love and food for older cats.(3) This week a beautiful female kitten chose to adopt my wife and I in downtown Coral Gables, on a street full of cement and cars.   This was a TAIL UP, LEMME BRUSH UP AGAINST YOU CONSTANTLY AND PURR type of kittie, about six months old.We couldn't  keep her because our older cat despises other cats with a passion.  So we brought her to Dr. Tonarely for a checkup/tests (Leukemia, FIV, etc.) so others could adopt her.  He saw how sweet she is and agreed to board her and help with her adoption through their networks and website.    Even though he didn't force us to, we volunteered to pay for her Checkup/Heartworm/Tests since we took responsibility for this stray's well being.   He's a good doctor and very caring.This is a solid, community-oriented clinic and I would recommend them without hesitation if you're in the greater Coral Gables area. We have 3 small dogs and have been using Ponce Animal Clinic for over 8 years. For bi-annual exams and emergencies, Dr. Sparks and Dr. Tonarely have taken care of our babies in the best way possible. They are up to date on treatment options, do not over vaccinate and are the most caring veterinarians. They listen to our concerns, are compassionate, and treat our pets as if they were theirs. I didn't realize how spoiled I was having Dr. Tonarely as my veterinarian for my first dog.  Dr. Tonarely is calm, kind, and extremely knowledgable.  As an inexperienced dog owner, he put my mind at ease time and time again.  I never felt that he was doing unnecessary procedures for money.  He didn't push prescription food, even when my dog was having stomach issues.  Once, when I came it for what was determined to be nothing, he sent me out the door without charging me.The front desk staff and techs are great.  They are super friendly and helpful.  They were always happy to greet my dog and me, and were very pleasant on the phone.  Mr. Bingley (the fox terrier) and I miss you guys at Ponce Animal Clinic!  If we hadn't moved across the country, we'd still be going there. I had recently moved to Miami and was set on sticking with my old vet in Fort Lauderdale because they had treated my dog wonderfully for the past 2 years. Then I was watching a friend's dog who became ill and I needed to take him to a vet in a hurry. I called Ponce De Leon based on their yelp rating and was so impressed. After taking our dog to four vets for the same skin condition, with no improvement, a friend recommended this clinic. Dr. Tonarely is amazing!!! From the first visit he started treating Indy we could see a radical improvement. My dog, Chance, and I visited Dr. Tonarely for the first time today, and we were very pleased with our experience! Chance, who was once a shelter dog, is typically very timid when he first meets guys, and I was expecting no exception during our visit today. However, Dr. Tonarely quickly put Chance at ease as he got on Chance's level and presented Chance with treats, rubs, and a calm tone. Chance didn't even squirm when he had to get his shot! Above all, though, it's very clear that Dr. Tonarely cares for the well being of his patients and loves what he does. He is very personable; he makes things easy to understand; and he is easy to talk to. I left my boxer for boarding for a span of 4 days. When I picked him up today, I was told I owed them a little over $338. They claimed he had a stomach ache, thew up and took it upon themselves to administer anti-nausea medications costing approximately $190.00. They further stated the Vet called me and advised me of this issue. Although, I did receive a call, it was not from the Vet, it was from a staff member who asked me if my dog was still taking levocrine, a previously prescribed medication. No other information was exchanged during this phone call, I never received any additional phone calls, nor was I contacted for consent to provide non-emergency medical services. When I questioned the charges I was told I provided consent for any medical services the clinic deems necessary during his stay, at the customers cost, of course. Furthermore, I picked up my dog in the evening, he was not walked or feed prior to my arrival. He was anxious and eager to leave. I do not recommend using this clinic, they have become untrustworthy, the staff is rude and the service is not worth the inflated costs. Read Less

Dr. Tonarely is the best vet I've ever been to. The staff is also very polite and knowledgable. This is a little boutique clinic, but with top notch care. If you want to go to a vet who really cares about your dog then this is the place. Wait was short and office was not crowded at all. Mary was really nasty to me for asking if the doctor would be ready soon as I had waited 30 minutes after the appointment time and her immediate response was "do you want to reschedule?" ... She tried taking my dog from me into the exam room and told me I couldn't come and it was because she was having a technician look at him even though the appointment was made with the doctor. They pull a lot of stunts here and I've heard the same from other people so this is the last time I will be going there. Read Less

Found a dog and took to the clinic referred by my good friend cookie and her German Shepard Naonao. She told me both doctors there are nice. And I went there and my Bagel did a check up and some shots there. Staff are friendly. Cashier is a bit cold but professional. The male doctor is so cute and I cannot even look at him directly for too long (flash) haha and of course very friendly and gentle with my bagel. The whole experience is good and they offer very good and reasonable price. I heard some of my friends spent 1000 for a visit in other place but my is about 240. Highly recommended. Read Less

I've been coming here over 25 years and I now drive from Weston for their services. They do not overcharge, too. I have been taking various pets to Ponce for over 10 years. Both doctors are knowledgeable, and deal well with even the most difficult pets. I tested this with my adopted, grouchy  chihuahua who has been dead over 5 years and is still legendary. They are caring but practical and realistic and won't push expensive treatments and refer to good specialists when necessary. When looking at the prior reviews I was puzzled that yelp "removed" 3 reviews due to their software analysis?!? I can understand doing this if they appear to be plants from the business itself or otherwise inappropriate, but these were not. What's up yelp?? Read Less

I am so happy to have discovered Ponce de Leon Animal Clinic after moving to Coral Gables in 2013 from out of state. My daughter acquired a high-strung and very uncertain little Yorkie puppy a few months after we moved here, and from the first moment we brought her in, Dr. Sparks and her team made the puppy feel comfortable and safe, took great care of her, and later on when she was old enough, did a first-rate job on her spay operation. We have appreciated how careful Dr. Sparks has always been and how she understands the delicacy of little toy breeds with respect to timing of surgical procedures, medicines, etc. and her great advice to us about caring for this little puppy.The office staff is fantastic too. They instantly knew our names, recognized our voices on the phone, and always took care of appointments, paperwork, billing, etc. so quickly that it was effortless -- all the while enjoying our puppy and making a sweet fuss over her. The clinic is clean and conveniently located, with plenty of street parking. We never had to wait for an appointment or linger once we arrived, and even when we did find ourselves in the reception room for a few minutes, the other dog owners and their pets were so interesting, it was sometimes hard to pull ourselves away to either go in to see the doctor or go home. I now have a new Coton puppy of my own and will be bringing her here as well. I LOVE this clinic, and just knowing they are ten minutes away makes me feel happy and confident.
