Sorry for the graphic photos but I want people to know and see how bad these people are here. I wish I was able to put less than 1 star because they don't even deserve 1. Photo 1: when we picked him up after surgeryPhoto 2: after the stitches ripped off at the top, before the staples. Notice how everything other than the hole looks pretty good and like it's healing. And then look at the third photo. How the doctor sent my dog home. Photo 3: how the doctor sent my dog home after the stitches came off a second time.My parents and I have been taking my now 10 year old dog to Banfield pretty much since we got him and we've had pretty good experiences there up until recently. Kody (my dachshund) recently had an anal gland abscess so I called different locations to see who could take him the soonest to fix it and the one that had that was able to was this location but we had to drop him off at 7:30am which was fine with us. My mom dropped him off and we were expecting the doctor to just clean it out and let us know when we can pick him up because he had the same issue a few years back and that's what happened, but not this time. This time, the doctor called my mom and told her that it was a really bad case and they had to do surgery. This was surprising to us because from what we saw, the previous case was worse than this one. When they were done with the surgery, which took 3 hours, we were told we could pick him up. When my mom and I saw my dog, we couldn't help but cry. He had a drain put in from the top of his butt to the bottom with stitches underneath. We were not prepared for that whatsoever. The doctor also mentioned that Kody might have gangrene and it looks really bad and his skin might die so you can imagine how worried and confused we were. We spent about $300 including medicine and that's because we had the insurance. A week later we had to go for a follow up, they took out the drain and left the stitches and said they didn't know how well it will heal, if at all... so reassuring! Also, one of the dog groomers saw Kody and saw his butt and asked what happened to him and after I explained, she looked at me extremely confused and proceeded to tell me that she has been a groomer for a long time and has never seen them put a drain in for this situation... even more reassuring, right? A couple days later, a part of the stitches at the top came off and Kody had a little hole that you could clearly see through so I called banfield to see if they could take him and they were too busy so I wound up taking him to another banfield location and the doctor there put staples in. So at this point Kody has two staples at the top of his butt and stitches underneath. A few days after that, Kody's stitches ripped off so I had to bring him back but this time I brought him to the original location. Even though the stitches came off again, it looked as if just the top layer of skin had come off, there was no hole when I brought him in. We saw the same doctor from before (not the one who did the surgery) and a tech came out to tell me that they have to put staples in again, so I was obviously upset because my poor dog has had a surgery, stitches, staples, and now I find out he needs more staples. Finally, the doctor brings me back in the room and she tells me that she doesn't want to put the staples in anymore after really looking at this situation. The doctor sends me home with a massive hole in my dogs butt. I called my mom hysterical because my dog looked worse than he did when I brought him in and she called an animal hospital in boca for me to bring him there. I go to the animal hospital and the doctor there tells me that the original doctor should have NEVER done the surgery as what he did goes 100% AGAINST what they do for an anal gland abscess. The doctor proceeds to show me how deep the hole is in my dogs butt and shows me that Kody's skin isn't even attaching to the tissue because of the drain that was there before AND Kody might need a SECOND SURGERY to try to fix what had been done. So after spending an extra $300 at the animal hospital, we finally got the correct medicine and treatment and Kody is finally okay and can walk around and be a normal dog without having a cone around his neck and doctors poking and stapling his butt.
