Medical Mercenaries: This hospital is not a loving, caring facility but a mere business that preys on the emotions of loving pet owners to empty their bank accounts. Disgraceful!
While technically proficient and medically competent, the managerial staff at Coral Springs Animal Hospital are pure medical mercenaries who, after bleeding the caring and loving owners of pets dry of their money, shamefully release pets they know are in dire need of medical treatment because the owners can longer afford to pay their exorbitant care for treatment. They are heartless and I would not recommend anyone bring their beloved pet to this institution because, once your money runs out, so does their concern and "professional" care they provide to your pet.
Background:
I initially brought my Rottweiler into their hospital initially in May of 2014; a very strong and very active and good-natured dog, he had become inactive and withdrawn. My vet indicated he was diabetic and had significantly high levels of glucose and ketones in his blood and recommended I admit him to the Coral Springs Animal Hospital. The staff there was technically competent and provided care to bring my pet's glucose under control. However, their costs for treatment were incredibly high: a three-day stay at the hospital cost me $5,600. They were unrelenting on working on any discount for me, a middle-class person of average economic means. The only assistance they me a "payment plan" which I declined (because of the interest rate their financial plan charged was considerably higher than I obtained by putting it on my credit card).
I again brought my pet into the Coral Springs Animal Hospital in April 2016 when again, my good-natured rottweiler became withdrawn and exhibited a loss of appetite. The medical staff, who, again was very technically competent, diagnosed my pet with Diabetic Ketoacidosis and a urinary tract infection. He was in their facility for two days and a bill for over $4,000 was again rung up. They wanted to keep him for another day and a half to monitor his blood sugar level and the progress of the antibiotics for the urinary tract infection, however, the additional cost would add ANOTHER $2,100 to my bill (making the total cost over $6,000). When I asked for some mercy on the billing indicating I am not a person of such economic means that I can spend over $11,000 in two years on my dog's treatment for diabetes, they coldly responded that there was nothing they would do to mitigate my bill and again offered me their "Payment Plan". When I could not afford to pay any more, they ceased any further medical treatment for an animal they knew was ill and in a "delicate state" as they described it and discharged my animal. All the while their staff harangued me and my wife as be cruel, uncaring individuals.
While I understand the hospital is in business to make money, charging patients $26.00 for a glucose monitoring strip that I pay a mere $0.75 for at the pharmacy is indeed exorbitant. When I respectfully requested they trim some of their profit level to keep their costs reasonable to the average, middle-class pet owner, they would not even consider it - even after the fact that I pointed out I spend over $10,000 at their hospital between my current visit and my prior visit just two years ago in May 2014. I am not asking for anything for free, as I have been raised with the ethics of hard work and one should pay for what they want; however, I feel that I am being taken advantage of by this facility and they are using my emotions as a caring pet owner, to charge prices that are extremely unfair.
The only thing the owners of this facility care about is MAKING MONEY; if their emphasis was actually on providing healthcare for animals in need and easing their pain and suffering they would not charge such high prices, and work compassionately with pet owners to reduce some costs and not discharge animals they KNOW to be sick and in need of medical care. Now I am following up Banfield Animal Hospital. Read Less
