My cat had not been to the hospital since she was a baby. She came from the humane society and was very ill. They took care of her until she was well, gave her all her baby shots, spayed and declawed her. She is an indoor cat and never goes out or sees other animals; therefore, she has no need for any other shots. She just became sick and was getting worse. She was vomiting until there was nothing there. She lost weight. I called for an appointment. The man who answered (I assumed it was Dr. Hugo) asked what was wrong with her. I told him. He then told me that with the holiday approaching(Labor Day) and them closing the office for it, he really didn't want to take on this illness. I told him she was very sick and asked what am I suppose to do now. He told me that they usually refer people to another vet's office in Coral Springs. He then asked me, "Do I have a lot of money because it is expensive?" I said, "No". He then said that I should take her some place else. What kind of doctor would do or say this? I had a good experience with them several years ago. Time must have really changed them. I found a new vet. He is wonderful. Just want people to know that if you don't take your animals for shots every year and give them a yearly income, be aware that when you really need them, they may not be there. Find another vet. My 1 year old cat had pooped and vomited and peed all at the same time and became listless.  I called the cat hospital and they said they would call me back. My cat was very sick so I just drove over there to get him help. The vets wife was very upset with me that I came in and was very dismissive. The vet then came out and said your cat is very sick and we can't take care of him because we are closed tomorrow. I took my cat to another animal hospital and they treated him on the spot and he is 100% better. I would not recommend the Cat Hospital to anyone. Read Less

Called to make an appointment to have my female Persian cat seem. Told receptionist that she was seen by another vet, and wanted her to get re-evaluated. Wanted to come in with x-rays and test results to see if they could help her. Before I could continue, I was advised that they would not see her and had to take her to a specialist in Coconut Creek! (What kind of specialist, who?!) Wasn't even given a vets name! She didn't even know what was wrong with my cat yet! Receptionist was rude on the phone! Dr. Hugo is a great man. I'm very content with him for he is an incredibly hard working and caring man. I've thankfully never had any issues with my boy Akua but if anything were to happen to him I'm glad I can count on Dr. Hugo to do everything he can to make him all better. The Dr. is a little iffy when it comes to nutrition however. Cats are obligate carnivores and have a low thirst drive therefore they REQUIRE canned food to hydrate themselves and keep their renal system in tip top shape. Dr. Hugo kinda dropped the ball when he recommended me a bag of royal canin dry food instead of anything canned. Alas I understand it's not his fault, many of these food companies fund a veterinarian's nutrition education in school and push curriculums to favor their unhealthy stuff over the good canned food so I just ignored his comment. Regardless of all of that Dr. Hugo is an amazing vet and has saved many ailing felines and his prices are pretty reasonable! I never thought I would find another veterinarian as good as my regular but I was wrong. In fact, if you have a cat Dr. Hugo should be the only veterinarian you go to. I wondered how you can run a  practice (and stay in business) while solely catering to cats. After our visit I understood exactly how this was possible.Dr. Hugo has so much knowledge on cats that I was genuinely impressed. For example, our cat turns into a vicious monster at the veterinarian. Not a single vet or vet tech can handle her without my help lest they get scratched. She's so difficult that you can't even get her out of her cage without tipping it over. Well Dr. Hugo was an exception. I didn't even get a chance to warn him about how vicious she was when he smoothly got her out of the cage. He handled her firmly yet with care. In fact, she was handled so well that she didn't even take a swipe at him! That was never happened before.Usually I will volunteer to help with her examination so the vet can do what he needs to without struggling with my cat. But after watching Dr. Hugo handle her expertly, I didn't even bother because I could tell that he really knew what he was doing. The rest of the visit was just as smooth. He spent a lot of time with our cat and listened intently to each issue she was having. Then he took the time to give us detailed answers to our questions and multiple possible remedies to each issue that we could implement.So you would think that such top notch service would cost an arm and a leg. Frankly I didn't think about the price and for his level of service I expected to pay a lot. However, to my surprise he was extremely affordable. His fees were on par with what you would expect to pay at a cheap veterinarian clinic. Our cat is a member of our family and we want the best care possible for her. And I do believe we have found that with Dr. Hugo. As much as I love my regular veterinarian; Dr. Hugo is on another level. If you have a cat I urge you to give this place a try. Read Less

Was willing to try him out because of the good reviews here. Call about our cat of 18 years dying and the dr was very cold and short seemed to only be concerned if we had enough money to afford his services (which we do). But I don't want our family member feeling the type of vibe in her last breath. Every interaction matters doctor, even a phone call with potential clients . Maybe he was having a bad day but someone calling about there dying family member should create some empathy but maybe that's only for people that have been paying him for years Read Less

Exeptional cat vet. The only doc that I'd recommend to cat owners. My cat had a seemingly uncurable disease as diagnosed by another prominent veterinarian establishment. They gave my cat antibiotics and told me that it would clear up her lesions, but they were wrong. I wasted money and my cat was miserable. But it all changed the moment I walked into Cat Hospital. The staff and doc were very caring and right away gave me a diagnosis he thought was most likely and easiest to cure. He was right and my cat is healthy and no more leasions. Thanks! Read Less

LOVE LOVE LOVE Dr. Hugo!! What a sincerely nice man he is. Dr. Hugo was honest with us about cost and let us know what he could and could not do in regards to surgery. I took my kitty in to see him for blood in her urine and he was so gentle and kind with her. I had to leave her at his office for a few hours and when I came back to pick her up, she was still calm, which she usually is never calm when going to the vet's office. Dr. Hugo gave us the rundown of what was going on and provided us with options for her care. The cost was much lower than expected, even with the x rays, blood work, and food. Dr. Hugo is amazing. You can tell that he has many years of experience and he is very reasonably priced. I have friends that have been going to him for many years with multiple cats and only have good things to say. I brought my kitten there a couple times and he is always very thorough and helpful. I will continue to go to him for as long as he's in business. I wish I could take my dog to him as well. And to the reviewer who gave one star for him declining his cat because of diabetes, it certainly sounds like there is a lot more to that story than what you're sharing. Either way, if he did decline service for lack of knowledge or experience in that area (which I highly doubt) I would rather have a vet be humble enough to decline my cat than to make my cat sicker for the money or because he's too proud to say so. My cat wasnt acting right so when I called, they were able to schedule me in for the very next day. The lady I spoke to on the phone was very nice and helpful. I actually just moved into the area so I had some problems with the directions. I saw on the other review someone didn't have a good experience with the lady on the phone, but she was very patient with me. I think the vet is very good with animals and he truly knows his stuff. after reading two positive reviews on here I just called the cat hospital of hillsboro to gather some information. I asked how far (approximately) it was located from Delray Beach as I'm visiting from out of state. The woman was extremely rude, abrupt and told me I should take her somewhere closer. I asked again if she knew the approximate distance or time frame it would take to get there and she said she does not. How can a person who lives in Florida not have any idea at all...I asked if she could ask anyone else there and she said again...she could not. I asked if the vet might know...she said he was in surgery. Asked if she could please ask him when he got out and I'd call back. She could not. Asked for prices of a urinalysis and a culture. Didn't know...I told here she was being extremely rude, adversarial and I'd like to start over as I'm concerned about my cat. She hung up on me.Nuff said.Ugh. I took my cats to Dr Hugo at the  recommendation of a friend and let me say, their reocmmendation was spot on.  A wonderful vet who knows and understands cats better then most and cares.He quickly diagnosed my cats issue, got a sample, and an xray (case in point another vet to tried to get an xray had to anesthetize my cat) withoout any problem.  He took the time to explain to me in depth the issue, the possible treatments and the issues with each one.One of my cats then developed another issue and unfortunately Dr Hugo was on vacation so we took him to another vet.  While this other vet (who shall remain unnamed) did diagnose the issue, his treatment regime was short term, not well explained and to me, completely unsatisfactory.  Dr Hugo then took the time to consult with me on the phone and work out what to me, was a long term, proper, and good treatment.  I would recommend him to anyone who loves their cat(s) and wants to see them get the best treatment. Dr Hugo was my cat's vet for all of her 19 years. When I lived in Miami I drove an hour and a half just to see him in Deerfield. He is always caring and helpful. He has called me numerous times at home when I had a "nervous parent" moment, and he was very supportive when it came time for the painful decision to euthanize my cat at the end.
