RUN FAR AWAY FROM DR. TOCCI. DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE UNLESS IT IS THE ONLY OPTION.
The first time I took one of my dogs here, the staff and doctors at LVS saved his life after he encountered a Bufo toad. The doctor was wonderful, caring and supportive. I cannot be more thankful for her good work. Unfortunately, this particular doctor is no longer at LVS. LVS is a teaching hospital and this wonderful, caring Vet moved on to another practice out of state.
The second time I went here was with my very senior dog. She was very sick so the prognosis was not great and we didn't think she had a good chance of surviving. However, the staff convinced us to make a $3,000 deposit to give them the resources necessary to give her a shot at recovery. We agreed after one of the doctors told us she could clear her lungs, so it was worth a try. After one night in the hospital her prognosis worsened, and my wife and I made the decision to end her pain. The doctor that gave us a rosier prognosis was likely inexperienced and she was not there the next day as she promised us she would be.
So, unfortunately, we were assigned to Dr. Tocci. Dr. Tocci was cold, rude and unprofessional from the very beginning. First, she allowed others (through her staff's mistake) to enter the room where we were visiting our pet and we were crying at the time. Next, she put us in another room and was very rude when we asked some basic questions. My dad, a very highly respected anesthesiologist, was with us in that room and asked Dr. Tocci a question about the medicine they were going to use to euthanize our pet. Dr. Tocci looked at him and said, "WHO ARE YOU?!!" First, why would we let any older gentleman who was not related to us in the private room? She was so rude to him and our family. My dad commented that in his 40 years of practice at many major hospitals throughout Texas, Dr. Tocci had one of the worst bedside manners he'd ever seen.
Once my pet rested her head on my shoulder she stopped breathing and Dr. Tocci rushed to administer the medication. That was the only good thing she did. I told her to leave the room so we could have privacy.
I have had pets all my life and have gone through this difficult process before but never in my life have I experienced such terrible service in the moments that matter most - I wanted to be able to talk to my pet while she passed but instead I was having to tell Dr. Tocci to leave.
I am not bitter with LVS. My dog was going to die regardless. It was her time. I am disappointed in LVS' hiring and continued retention of Dr. Tocci. Nothing will bring my pet back. I just hope LVS will prevent Dr. Tocci from making the same mistakes to other families who are letting go of their pet. I cannot say enough bad things about Dr. Tocci.
It's really too bad, because LVS is a very clean, overall professional establishment and it has the potential to be the premier provider of emergency vet services in Broward. It has state of the art equipment and facilities. Unfortunately, bad doctors and staff can hinder LVS' reputation. This is evidenced not just by my review, but take a look at the other reviews. I am certainly NOT alone. I am ONE of MANY.
We have decided to use a different emergency vet in the future (unless, of course, they hire Dr. Tocci). I won't list which one because this review is not an advertisement, it is instead a critical review of LVS.
My last complaint is that it took 1 minute for them to charge my credit card for $3000 and it took 9-10 days and repeated phone calls to get the $1000 refund that I was owed. The staff members who I called gave me conflicting information. One said she didn't need my card number. The other staff member (who was also rude) said she needed it.
We won't be returning to LVS and we will RUN FAR AWAY from Dr. Tocci. Read Less
